FYI, A lot of people have had major issues with their SSD getting WAY too hot or flat out overheating and stop working when they opted to not put the cover back on the SSD expansion bay in the PS5. From what I understand, the PS5 was designed with the intention of keeping that cover ON for optimal airflow to cool the SSD. So I'd play it safe for now and only use heatsinks that fit in the bay with the little steel cover on. It would be one thing if a ps5 was easily replaced.. but we all know that ain't the case..
Absolutely no messing about, straight forward easy to navigate and understand, this fellow deserves a round of applause, a huge thank you from everybody here (based in the Highlands of Scotland)

With the way Sony designed the ps5 I’m 90% sure that you’re suppose to put that ssd cover back on, I’m pretty sure Sony released a video awhile back saying that was important so no dust gets in there.
Thank you very much, you’ve definitely earned my subscription! Thank you for also giving the links to the ssd itself and the heatsink! Much appreciated
Thank you for this. Great job, I appreciate it.
The best thing about this version of heatsink is that it fits the PS% Digital. Other more well known and twice the price heatsinks DO NOT fit the PS5 digital. Thanks for the video because the instructions I had got with mine were way off and this video got me back on track.
Let me know how it operates. If you notice any apparent discrepancies between the original ps5 SSD and the extension. I think the difference will only be noticeable analytically but not to our eyes. Idk yet tho
You are the ONLY person who installed the M.2 drive properly… everyone keeps installing the stand-off over their drive. AND. PUTTING IT ONLINE AS INSTRUCTIONS!! lol
@@cloudstrife7772 This is a game changer. I installed the drive, easy as hell, the first game I tried was RE Village. The game literally loaded in 1 second😲😲
You say you would prefer to use a larger heat sink. If you use the lager heat sink where is the air flow from? If you put the lid back on a use a smaller heat sink is there much air flow from inside the casing? All about airflow. Which is best?
I was crying not knowing how to put my new 4tb EDILOCA EN855 SSD (with heatsink) together and put it in, so thank you so much! I'm 19 going on 20 living with grandparents who would not even be able to begin to help me (they cant even figure out the damn tv remote lol)
Sony recommends you do actually replace the metal cover over the newly installed SSD. They say it creates a bit of pressure in the enclosure that helps with the airflow.
Great video as always. Side note: If you strip you nail trying to remove it from the motherboard bay…go to Amazon and purchase the M2 screen kit…unfortunately….it’s going to happen to a lot of users…
I want to tell you that the Sabrent Rocket you've linked to isn't within the specs that's advised by Sony. They specify the minimum required read speed at 5500MBytes/s. FWIW The Sabrent Rocket _4 Plus_ seems to be fine. I got myself a WD_Black SN850 without the heatsink. I've added a (single-sided) heatsink from ICY-BOX IB-M2HS-70 on top of it. The heatsink is actually two millimetres too tall to put the cover back on. Which is even better considering the added benefit of some proper airflow.
Also just a pro tip. I installed my heat sink abit too low (nearer the contacts) so the metal cover of the PS5 didn’t fit. I shuffled the heat sink further up towards the screw-end and now the covers fits again 😅
To be honest go for a bigger heatsink and leave the cover of, the airflow will take the heat from the heatsink. Why close it..? These ssd's get fairly hot. As long as the plastic cover fits snug it's a better choice if you ask me.
I wish I could have that ssd set up u install in this video I can't afford nothing like That. I only got lucky to get my ps5 from a family member bc of being out of work and barely making it
What ps5 players don't understand is ps5 o/s games/ speed /loading time etc are base on the internal ssd speed 5.5 gb/sec unless sony release a software update in the future that's allow o/s games/ hardware to take advantage of that extra speed ssd
@@hugodouglas5191 I have an external Samsung SSD which works great and saves a bunch of time downloading games. What about transfer speeds? Show us how long copy times are, from internal to nvme and back, from external ssd to nvme, from external ssd to internal. then compare loading times an so on.
Given the transfer speeds it shouldn't take more than a minute to transfer like a 200gb game between the drives internally. External nvme more like 3 minutes and external SATA SSD more like 7 minutes
Thank you sir, a lot of people where talking about liked how hard it would, but here show its no worse than adding a hard drive or ram to pc, which is really easy

Brilliant and very easy to follow-thanks 👍
brilliant mate..... easy explanation...... thx so m uch
Thank you! You made what seemed like an extremely difficult process into something very easy.
Cheers buddy
Great video and your other videos covering the PS5 SSD expansion stuff have been priceless. SSD and heatsink on route so now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I get an invite to the firmware beta.
Did you get the invite to the firmware beta? I'm reading people are getting the invite within a week or 2.
The PS5 System Software Update that enables the PS5 SSD Expansion slot will go LIVE globally on Wednesday 15th September 2021. Learn more here - th-cam.com/video/qGA5ZWda2j8/w-d-xo.html
Great videos. They helped a lot. Pny xlr8 3140 works really good. My PS5 read speed with it is 6552.
What is better...this heatsink or the Sabrent one piece heatsink?
Fantastic and complete guide, thank you!
I have a doubt about this new storage, Is the internal storage replaced? Or this is an expansion SSD?
It is added internal storage and functions as addition to the original ssd not a replacement.
Very nicely explained
Do you think it'll be perfectly fine without that metal panel?
Awesome video easy straight to the point simple as that 💯
Good instructional video! Straightforward and easy that anyone can do! Thanks for good video
So if you don't have the beta update don't bother installing the ssd right now ?
This is the question that I also need an answer to
No it wont work. I am still waiting on my beta update but havent got access yet
@@michaelbrown2241 Sony sent me one but I deleted the email. On accident and my ssd arrived lol so now I can't even update it
@@TripieBluee check your trash
Isn't there an issue with that bigger heatsink that the SSD connector goes to high up so it won't hit it where it is in the PS5?
Only thing I need to know is where can I find the right size screwdriver?
Thank you for the awesome instructions 😅👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks, and awesome video. Really is super easy to install. Thanks again.
very good video !!! follow all ur indication !! very easy !! big thank you !! #1 !!!!
Thank you so much!! So well explained!,
I wish we had a temp reading with ps5 or a warming if it is running hot(ssd)
Hi,you have to remove the original heatsink stiker right ?If not, there are double heatsinks !
Can you do one for the series x? Thanks in advance
Exactly 😭
You should start uploading in 4k if you possibly can
Thx. I feel like I can do that pretty easy. Awesome. Thx buddy.
Thanks for the actually useful and informative video that was reassuring and stress free 👍
Thank you sir, a lot of people where talking about liked how hard it would, but here show its no worse than adding a hard drive or ram to pc, which is really easy
Hello, I’ve been watching your videos and they are very good. Thanks a lot.
I have a question, though. Do you have to remove the brand sticker from tha SSD prior to the installation of the heatsink?
Nope. You should leave it on. It has zero impact on modern NVMe SSD heat dissipation and in some cases it can invalidate your warranty
