Yes, it's easy enough once you've done it once or seen how to do it. However, as you said, going blind with something expensive can turn into an expensive mistake really quickly. Cheers, Dave.
Worked perfectly thank you. Simple to do even if you're a newbie just have to follow the steps in a methodical manner. If you're an old school PC person or PC person who's used to upgrading a PC its a piece of cake. Remember before installing the SSD make sure the PS5 or PS5 Pro you've updated the latest software on the console FIRST, then install the drive.
Fantastic tutorial Dave. I'm sure PS5 owners will appreciate you detailing each step. Unfortunately, for us XBox Series S & X owners, we need to pay ridiculous prices for their custom drives. It's easier to add storage, but much more expensive. I prefer the way Sony handles it.
Alright, Kevin. Yes, that's main problem with Xbox. I've got a Series S and an X and I've never fancied paying for those expansion SSDs cards. They are way too expensive. Cheers, Dave.
@DavidHarry I held back for as long as I could, but my regular games were just taking up too much storage. So I had to buy the 1TB card for £129.99. it's been great since then .. but I did grudge paying for it when I had many spare NVME drives I could have used.
The panel doesn't grip into the ps5 pro it's loose where the three holes are, but it grips in firmly on the other side. A lot of other people are having the same issues..
Hi. Yes, where the 3 holes are the panel doesn't grip, it slides in, the grip parts are at the top of the panel, you could hear this click when I pushed it in. Cheers, Dave.
yeah my bottom two outside ones on the 3 panel part bent in bc I didn’t realize it slid in…is it okay if those aren’t in 100% or can I order another panel from Sony?
In the states, we call that “space-uhh” a “space-errrrrrr” 🤓. JK, Thank you for the comprehensive video! The Pro M2 install is a little simpler compared to the original PS5 as you only need to remove the small half plate to get at the M2 slot. 👍
Hi, Joseph. We say space-errrr in the UK as well and that is what I am saying but my accent must be getting in the way 😂 Yes, that smaller half sized side plate does make it a bit easier to get at the SSD compartment 👍 Cheers, Dave.
Hello brother. I have a question and I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere online. I have a 4Tb SSD in my current PS5 and would like to transfer the SSD Games from that drive to my new 8TB. WD drive, how would I do that? When I do the data transfer method in the settings, it only transfers games from the console storage. Not SSD to SSD😞 I can't transfer my current PS5 SSD games to my console storage because there's not enough space in the console anymore. I know I could install all my old games to the Pro new big SSD one by one via disc insert and Digital redowownload, but that would take a long time. Is there an alternative easier method?
You will have to copy games from the 4TB to the console and then to the 8TB. You will have to do a lot of disk swapping. Or try putting one of the SSDs inside an enclosure and connect it to a USB-C on the PS5 and do a direct transfer.
We need to have serious discussion about how easy it is to snap off the little claws of the panel. Its not that easy to take off these panels. they need to think of another way .
Hi. I think we need to have a few discussions about the PS5 Pro. Don't get me wrong, it really is a great console, but there are a number of questionable decisions by Sony. Cheers, Dave.
The cover on mine will cover the 3 holes and i hear the click on top left corner but theres another one in inner middle left and when i put pressure, it keeps popping right back up :(
Yes, I totally agree, Sony should definitely have put an optical drive in it. If it did have the drive I don’t think there would have been as many people moaning about its price. Cheers, Dave.
Definitely not a dumb question. I don't know. I was going to say something about it but I didn't think that this was the right video. I cant see how the fan channels any air past the SSD. The part of the fan that you see in the video is the intake. It essentially draws air from vents on the three edges of the case when the panel is on. I can only assume that some of the incoming cool air is drawn/sucked past the heatsink. However, I don't see any air channel/s directly inside the SSD compartment but it does sit right next to one of the intake vents, so maybe there is cool air being drawn past the compartment and heatsink on its way to the fan as part of the input airflow. But yes, it's not super obvious. Cheers, Dave.
@@DavidHarry thanks for sharing your opinion, David. The fan works on the principle of drawing air in and passing it over the internals before passing it out. I could possibly see that with the cover removed there would be air movement in the vicinity of the heatsink but left on the entire combo is sitting in an enclosed box. Oh well, I have to believe that as Sony designed this recess it must work.
If I remember correctly the ps5 uses negative pressure throughout the system, which is why you HAVE to replace the metal plate cover. Otherwise you create less negative pressure as you’ll have a “leak”
Helpful video👍. I have my SN850 SSD with a Sabrent M.2 heatsink on my OG PS5. Can I use that same heatsink on the pro without compatibility issues or heat issues?
Hi. I'm glad the video was helpful. Unfortunately, no, you cant use your PS5 heatsink. Checkout this video you may find it useful th-cam.com/video/bSnjvGOrXjw/w-d-xo.html Cheers, Dave.
@DavidHarry Just watched that video! Thanks! Really wanted to use my sabrent because that was the best heat sink on the market during its time for PS5. The Haechi H02 the guy used in the video that's compatible. Is that even a good one to use for the pro? Cause, I never heard of that brand or model. Is there any other heatsink models that's compatible to use for the pro?
@@Chosen1_24 Hi. That guy in the video was me 😆 and yes it's a good heatsink and will work with your WD. Keep an eye on my channel I will be doing a video soon showing and installation with the 4TB SN850X and that same heatsink. The compartment on the Pro is way too small for some of the big heatsinks that you can use on the original 5. Cheers, Dave.
@DavidHarry Oh didn't know that haha😆. I noticed that the Haechi 02 doesn't have a thermal sticky pad on the bottom of the cover like the sabrent does. So I guess it has its own way of keeping the SSD cool. There's not much heat sinks I can find online that are the best with the pro because the pro just came out and it's still in testing stages with that. And most heat sinks are compatible with the OG PS5 and slim but not the pro, so it takes some research to find the right ones. But I'll look into it. I'll look forward to watching that next video.Thank you.
I have seen like 10 videos like this but no one actually turn on the console to see if actually works wtf !! I installed mine and I use to have it on my other ps5 but for some reason the ps5 pro is not reading it
Ive watched a bunch of these but what aboot the FIRETRUCKIN heat sink? And yeah this shits weak! Any ninny with a philips can plug in a frikkn chip. What about if you have to update the firmware on the chip???? Lots of folks talk a out how after their install their rig crashes. But nobody talks aboot the sketchy end of this…… F*#@&$N software/firmware. Like doing a vid about adding a HDD or SSD in a PC and all they show is plugging shit in. Sorry as phuk
Great video, had to rely on someone who almost broke their cover 🫨 spooked me but the job is done. Have they made any improvements to the WD black? I bought 1TB couple of years ago.
Hi. I wouldn’t worry about your WD drive unless you need more space. I’ve tried a bunch of Gen 4 drives in my PS5 and they are all very similar as far as speed is concerend. Cheers, Dave.
Perfect video! Thank you, it’s fairly straight forward a task but you never want to risk doing it blind with something so expensive.
