Dear Max, thank you very much for your very informatif video. I have just one question. Why is the color of the S5 videos so poor, why is the image so red in comparison to the A7? Is this usual by the S5 or just in this video so. I thought the images of the S5 would be more natural. Many thanks in advance and greetings from Austria (EU).
The IBIS is a big deal and something Sony shooters were always jealous of the GH5. I wish you gave more time to discuss that, but the S5 IBIS looks much better than Sony.
AF performance drastically improves at 60fps with DfD because of faster sampling and more frames. With the GH6 they need to give us a native 4K 48fps mode, shoot at 360 degree shutter, and in post drop it into a native 24fps timeline, dropping every other frame. The 360 degree shutter angle will give you 1/48 of a second shutter speed which is perfect for a 24fps video...make it happen Panasonic!
Since then firmware has been updated. S5 firmware is on 2.3 now. Not checked Sony yet. Do you have a test planned for new firmware? I know 2.0 improved focus, but 2.3 added Blackmagic Raw and more.

Hey Max, did you manage to get your hands on the S5 recently? Has it improved?
Puzzling how it worked sooooo much better for you than it did for Mr and Mrs Northrup.

Bro, have to use minimum 80mm lens with eye tracking for the test, moving faces with max depth of field AND COMPLICATED BACKGROUNDS
So you demand a test with a as much as possible no real life scenario? I🤣🤣 the cam is made for real life use not idiotic tests.

@@georgeanton film makers use manual focus, they want control when and how much is in in focus. Watch the joker movie und you will see what i mean, they used the focus in a very artistic way and the movie would not be the same if they had used af , no matter how good the af system might be . Just watch the movie and see how they did it, you will nver talk about af again.
The S5 seems to have a magenta tint, compared to a greenish Sony.
Not sure which is more accurate on that point.
Max, how was the light in the room? Was ir more on the warm or cool side?
The best test ever, great job.
very good clip to learn more about the S5 AF. Thank you!
Very good video! Helped alot!
Thanks for a very detailed comparison. Looks like Panasonic have made major improvements with their DFD AF system.
I hope it filters down to the M43 line but processing power on those bodies may limit this. We'll find out.
The S5 looks like a great hybrid camera.

Great Job Max, thanks a lot!
Hi, why at minute 3:10 and over, the panasonic image unclear and the colors dull and cold, compared to Sony?
Camera Conspiracies sent me here ! nice channel
Sony colors is so green, love the AF test, thanks Max
Thank you so much dear bro... What I have bye..? In both...
I have been hesitant about these two cameras for a while. Thanks for your video helping me to make the final decision, which is Panasonic s5.👍🏻
How is your experience with AF?. How is image stabilization..do u need gimbal to actually look like smooth?....
So in APSC mode, it does a great job with AF because its a 1:1 readout and it doesn't need to do any extra processing for oversampling 6K to 4K ?
Sony a7iii 🔥th-cam.com/video/mVjB8LsKA1w/w-d-xo.html
Thanks a ton for this review ! There are many videos on TH-cam that just write off any of the Panasonic camera's autofocus outright !
The IBIS is a big deal and something Sony shooters were always jealous of the GH5. I wish you gave more time to discuss that, but the S5 IBIS looks much better than Sony.
Can you compare between Nikon Z6 and Panasonic S5?
S5 or xt4 for studio video?
very informative tests. Thanks!
AF performance drastically improves at 60fps with DfD because of faster sampling and more frames. With the GH6 they need to give us a native 4K 48fps mode, shoot at 360 degree shutter, and in post drop it into a native 24fps timeline, dropping every other frame. The 360 degree shutter angle will give you 1/48 of a second shutter speed which is perfect for a 24fps video...make it happen Panasonic!
yes that would be great.
Thanks for an amazing comparison video!
Would you recommend S5 for TH-cam one man army setup for product reviews/vlogs?
Yes
Great work Max!
Since then firmware has been updated. S5 firmware is on 2.3 now. Not checked Sony yet. Do you have a test planned for new firmware? I know 2.0 improved focus, but 2.3 added Blackmagic Raw and more.
Are the new algorithms going to the G9 and GH5?
Good job Vadim. You should talk about your weight loss and fitness you look great!!
can you please do a video on auto focus settings for sony a7iii ..... which settings are best
Its a nice review, but S5 corners look reddish, is this a camera bug, or something else? What about controls via WiFi or Bluetooth? Is there any lens (upon release) with O.I.S. ?
What would you recommend for a lens though for content creation?
I got it with kit lens 20-60mm. Upgraded from the a7sii with the tamron 17-28mm. Miss the wide angle but the stabilization on the s5 is superb!
@@nyrubin awesome and thank you!!
Great comparison.. Please help to compare 1080/24-120fps as well, who is better?
Excellent max great job. Tanks for your time. It looks like you have enjoyed doing this project. I think you forgot to mention the AF speed setting in each cameras.

That's an excellent test, thank you! I'm curious how well or badly the S5 would perform with Leica or Sigma glass, since they are supposedly not supported for DFD focusing.
They support DFD just as well as native Panasonic lenses.
@@farren7254 Hey, didn't Sigma even get an update? Because I consider getting the 28-70 or maybe even 24-70 but I am not sure about AF. Will use it for 70% videos (DJ-mixes and talks) and 30% photos.
As always, so informative! Contrast-based AF came a long way it seems!
Sony a7iii 🔥th-cam.com/video/mVjB8LsKA1w/w-d-xo.html
max may i ask... lumix finally stepped away from the 4/3. makes a full frame camera that everybody was begging for. why does one test with aps-c crop? why would you do it on a shoot when you have a full frame options now? thank you. great video of course
did you get to test out full frame 1080? A lot of my stuff I still shoot in 1080 for turn around speed. Just curious how it compares to 4K APS-C mode?
I’d be interested to know what your speed and sensitivity settings are?
Great informational video the autofocus looks good, hopefully they can do a update on there other cameras! 💪🏾💪🏾👌🏽
How does the H264 422 footage compare to the R5 H265 422 which is uneditable on most systems? Same issue or does the H264 compression make it work okay
Excellent comparison...
I wonder why Panasonic still uses contrast detection autofocus only, when all other brands have going to contrast + phase detection
Max is THE AF Test Guru :)
The ALTSON EF-L Mount Converter enables the use of Canon EF-mount lenses on L-mount
mirrorless camera bodies, and maintains full lens performance, including autofocus in AF-S
mode, as well as in-camera correction and image stabilization technologies.
Great video, looks good autofocus especially in aps-c 60fps even 24fps. But how does it work at low lights? the final version of the firmware is much better in full frame? can you publish some examples in low lights and with the new firmware? thanks. I would like to buy this camera what do you think, sorry my english i'm italian :)
I don’t get why you used the apsc mode if one of the greates things about the S5 is that it is Full Frame
Because the AF is better in APS-C mode on the S5. Would have much preferred more testing in FF. If you want an APS-C camera, you could just buy one and save some money.
Great job!
