Commenters seem to be equally oblivious to the notions of *NO TRESPASSING* signs. If you ignore them and act rudely to the owner of the property, that's your loss.
They seem to also be ignoring that OP outright owned the land, it was 100% his, how would they feel if a complete stranger left their car right at their house, on their drives? Because I’ll bet they’d be annoyed

My neighbor across the street parks on the road, and his friends have parked in my driveway, blocking me in more than once. Rather than telling them I would call a wrecker, I told them that I had full tanks on my 'Blue Wrench'. A few minutes with a cutting torch can turn an 'abandoned vehicle' into what would soon become a trailer load of scrap metal.

Did you ever watch the movie, "American Graffiti'? I loved the scene where the kid crawled up behind the police cruiser and wrapped a cable around the rear end, and had the other around a huge steel signpost. I was in the front row of the Base theater when the rear end was ripped out, and watched the individual needle bearings from the U-Joint spiral off screen! Revenge at its finest! :)

I don't feel so bad for the uncle. If someone's acting that entitled it's because the people around her allow her to be. And then to not even question where his car is after 50 days? Yeah, he's part of her entitlement problem.

The only thing some businesses can do is have the employee deemed a 'Vital Employee' but that is difficult at best. It has to be shown that the person has impossible to replace skills and business knowledge that will damage a business if they aren't at work.
I worked for one for years and watched her in a "come to Jesu$" moment, which frankly, scared me and I wasn't even the focus of her fury!
@@michaelterrell Two decades ago I worked for a small company that did video support for the legal community. We did courtroom playback, legal documentation, depositions, video editing . . . you name it. All of us in the small company knew many of the judges in the cities we supported and we knew a greater number of attorneys, many on a first name basis.
Because of all the familiarity, the courts DIDN'T want us on juries. But the jury choosing system didn't know that. At first, we would have to show up for court where we'd be recognized and immediately dismissed. Later, all we had to do was call in with our jurist number and identify who we were to get dismissed.
Even after ten years of being out of the business I still get dismissed.
@@markkover8040 I fully understand that. I did oddball (mostly industrial) electronics in the '70s and '80s, so I knew a lot of lawyers, and even one state bank examiner. I was never called for jury duty, not only because I was well known, but I was also a one an company that did all the electronics work for three school systems.
I love that jury duty story. The sight of the boss, in handcuffs, scared to death, apologizing, must've been glorious.

I wish even more employees were willing to stand up against law-breaker bosses like this. Employers may have all the power in their own businesses, but judges don't give a damn.
@@hauntedshadowslegacy2826 It's called rule by fear. We are conditioned to not defy our employers, out of fear of losing our jobs. Employees are usually screwed unless they unionize.
Except the judge went a bit far. The judge said if for any reason get gets punished which means he can be a terrible worker and not be fired for it. I can see it lasting three months maybe but not so long as the guy thinks he is bullet-proof.
In all fairness, watching a douchy creeper fall to a mighty roshambo is comedy gold at any age. 😁

That judge took the civic duty of the employee to do jury duty to the letter and spirit... and made the owner see that he wasn't the mighty controller of lives he thought he was.
If I was that Judge, I'd go the extra mile and threaten the Owner with snap inspections from everybody from the Revenue to the Fire Marshal

I got out of jury duty because of work, once. (not because I wanted to get out of it). I was in the Army and I explained that in my current unit I was the only person qualified to do my job and we had a project on the table that was time sensitive and I had to be there. The judge understood and let me out of duty.
My late husband got a letter on 2 different occasions and both times they excused him because I was pregnant both of those times and we had decided together that I would be a stay at home due to how much daycare costs.
As a swimmer I can guarantee you for the fact that that really must’ve hurt the instructor because using our legs and kicking is one of the most important things we do in swim and it was hilarious to hear him get his rightfully deserved karma
I just wish that "coach" had been put on a sex offender watch list on top of it.
Alice should be the one teaching the "kicking defense" techniques to all the kids in the school ...... and then go on the road giving seminars on how to defend yourself from creepy teachers and coaches.
Too bad her mother had to go after the school for trying to punish her for rightfully defending herself from the guy when he provoked the entire thing. Glad it at least worked out in the end.
In a similar way, my sisters played soccer and were warned to never use their legs when play fighting with others. Kicking power is not something you should risk.

Story 4: Awesome judge. That s**t employer got exactly what he deserved, threatening to fire OP simply for following the law. And clearly the judge scared the BS out of that employer since he didn't try any retaliation on OP. We need more judges like this.

I think most judges are like this. They are about as well versed in the law as it gets and they don't have to sue someone, the can just order. They can also directly mete out punishment (they have a really good idea of what is deemed reasonable). Also, the piece of paper the judge handed the cop was probably an arrest warrant for the boss.
It is a very bad idea to get a judge mad at you. For everyone else it's going to be hilarious. The judge can land on you in a way that will make you wish it was just a ton of bricks...
I might be the only dork who likes jury duty. Most times it doesn't interfere with work and I get all the gossip in person.
I've been chosen 2 times. Bit disqualified for about 5 more as I knew all members of the case.
Small county area with only a few towns.
But never got to sit in jury due to pleading out the case.

I can't believe anyone thought OP was a jerk for towing a car that was illegally parked on THEIR property. Don't want your car towed, don't park on someone's private property when they ask you not to!
Spraying the family with water is actually called ‘assault’, and op should have called the police, a night in jail might humble her somewhat.
Here in Australia they did a lot of that only paths on one side of the road or not at all in the late 80's early 90's but we all knew that the last X metres belonged to the local council (even though they sort of expected us to keep it tidy).

I once had a problem with an idiot who had too many cars for their property and parked their vehicles in my driveway. I repeatedly asked them not to and they never listened. I then posted no parking signs stating that offending vehicles would be towed. Idiot never stopped so i had one of their vehicles towed by a local towing company. They were pissed and egged my house and kept parking there. About 3 weeks later my friend came to visit from his city 400 miles away. He owns a towing company and the reason for his visit was to bring a car i had purchased in his city. He relaced the no parking sign with one from his company. When he left 4 days later the idiot's $300,000 Mercedes G wagon was on the back of his tow truck. Idiot tried to have him charged with stealing the Mercedes and was very pised when my freind showed the g wagon parked in front of the no parking sign stating that vehicles would be impounded at owner's expense by his towing company. Idiot ened up travelling 400 miles to get his car out of impound and had to pay $975 to get the car back ($150 impound fee + $2 per mile x 400 miles + $25 per day storage). I have never had a problem with the parking in my drive since.
I cannot believe the expectations of some people! Did you share a driveway? I think that is a horrible situation and a constant source for acrimony. Love your story
Heh, I live in a block of flats in a narrow street with very little public parking. I pay an extra £10 a month for the right to park my car in a private parking spot on private land right next to my bedroom window.
I’ve had a few minor problems over the years. Usually when delivery drivers park across my driveway while delivering stuff. Usually Amazon vans or something. And honestly I’m fine with it if I’m not actively leaving or arriving.
Most of the time I politely ask if they can move down a bit and they do. A few even apologise to which I’m cool with it. Normally saying that if they have a lot of parcels to deliver on this part of the street then as soon as as I’m parked they can pull across as I won’t be using my car again for a few hours. One guy did get offended though. His my response to politely asking him to move was an indignant “But I’m delivering items?” So I said that still doesn’t entitle him to illegally block my driveway and that if he didn’t move I’d call the police, I’d have his van towed away and I’d report him to his company-Amazon. I reinforced my words with raising my phone and taking a picture of the scene. I added that I’m about to hit video record and film him ingnoring me asking him to move his van, and I’m going to record everything he does until he leaves because I have nothing better to do. I can’t park until he moves so I might as well. I’m sure his boss would want to watch the recording.
FINALLY he stops trying to figure out which set of doors correspond to the block of flats he’s delivering to and reluctantly goes back to his van and drives it the six or seven metres needed to park his van on the public street without blocking anyone. I park my car, get out and lock it. As I’m stepping around it, key in hand so I can access the building he’s returning with the parcels he’s meant to deliver. I half expect him to say something but he doesn’t and I go inside. For good measure I sat at the bottom of my bed and watched over my car until he left. Just in case he wanted some revenge.
The thing is I’m normally not unreasonable. Once a pipe burst in our street and while it wasn’t a fountain or gushing, it was leaking a fair amount of water which then ran into the drains.
I was at work and had no idea about it until I arrived to see the leak and the water company crew trying to find space for all their vehicles and equipment. Tools for shattering concrete, diggers, construction supplies, roadworks signs, a kinda mobile oven to keep the tarmac hot,, vans and trucks. All a few metres down the street and mercifully a bit further down than the block of flats. I parked, took my shopping inside to get the chilled stuff in the fridge, then went outside to observe the situation before asking if I could talk to the supervisor. I asked him how long would it take to finish the repairs. He said sometime this evening or tonight as it was an emergency repair. So I said. “Well if you guys need more space to park your vehicles then you’re welcome to park across those two driveways if you promise to have them clear by 9:30am tomorrow.” (The space next to mine isn’t being used since the flat it’s assigned to has no tenants and stands empty. Loud and difficult neighbours in the flat above it means the landlord struggles to find tenants.)
Anyway the crew chief looks surprised so I explained I’m not using my car until next morning and then other space has no tenants so I don’t mind them blocking it for the evening. He then thanks me profusely and sure enough ten minutes later they’d taken me up on my offer. And they were as good as their word as when I left for work next morning there were no signs of them. Just a patch of fresh tarmac on part of the road.
Now I didn’t gain anything from it. I was just being nice as it cost me nothing to do so. But stories like this and the ones on this channel show that attitude is important most of the time. Things generally go better when one isn’t being a jerk.

On that last story, Karen apparently doesn't know what setbacks (in relation to construction and land use) are. That section the kids were walking on that she was screeching was "her property" was actually owned by the local governments, and as such are public property.
They all are here in Australia and I thought they were elsewhere. You often get streets where there's no path on one side. I built a house in an estate years ago with the path on the other side of the road but we still knew the last X part of the end of our garden was not our land.
She was also a terrible example to anyone in whatever church she was a deacon in. First off, Biblically, a woman isn't supposed to be a deacon, and she was not being Christian in any way, acting like a raging banshee just because people were stepping onto her lawn that really wasn't her's at all.
The last one every public road has a right of way and you do NOT own right up to the road. My ex-neighbor found this out the hard way. He for years claimed 10 ft on our side of the road because he said he had seen the original deed to all the land. For years it was all mouth. Then he started parking blocking our lower drive. He went and had a survey done to prove to us he owned it. The look on his face as the surveyor was standing a few ft from his trailer. Telling him that was his property line. He moved less than a year later.
There are also right of ways on private rods, to allow for power phone and Cable lines
Don't confuse Rights of way with property lines. My parents purchased property in the 70's. There was a R.o.W. on each side of the road, 30' but not only did they own the land "right up to the road," the property line was at the center-line. They "owned" the land, and paid taxes on it, but couldn't make much use of it. I was just a kid, but remember it clearly because I thought at the time, how strange that a property extend to the center of the road!
Actually, the home owner's property extends to the middle of the road!! Owner pays taxes on it!! It is completely different than 'right of way'!! Be sure of your facts before comment!!
I have seen something similar. My friend's neighbor complained that he was building a wall too close to his property. So my friend hired a surveyor, who determined that the real property line was about 15 feet further from his house than thought, and only about 2 feet from the neighbor's garage...which had been erected without a permit. In the end the neighbor had to tear down his garage, and my friend moved the wall WAY over to the property line. He picked up about 2000 sq ft of property that the neighbor claimed was his.
I do NOT live in an HOA simply because I heard the horror stories. Where I live we do have covenants, but the only repercussion is that one of the neighbors has to sue you, if you break one (or more) of them. In my neighborhood, this will not happen because almost everyone is breaking the covenants. Sue me for my 6 ft. chain link fence? I'll countersue because you park your personal watercraft beside your house, outside your fence. Or because you did not plant at least 5 trees your first year here. We have a very peaceful and cooperative neighborhood. In our state, if one homeowner breaks a covenant, that one becomes fair game and everyone is permitted to break that covenant. Someone or other has broken almost ALL the covenants, so almost none still stand. One neighbor even raised a calf in her backyard with a 4 ft. chainlink fence, not a 6 ft privacy fence. (she had to bottlefeed it because something happened to the mother.) We have a mostly happy neighborhood.
For those who do not know for the story in 11:00, you get paid for Jury Duty, usually plus milage, though it varies from state to state, it is at least enough for travel and to compensate for not being at work. In Alabama it's $40/day plus milage for travel, for example. Many businesses pay at least part wages, as well, as jury duty is that important a part of our legal system that no one should be penalized for participating in it.
In Idaho it is $27 a day with no milage reimbursement and your day to day job does not pay you to go onto jury duty. Usually have to use your PTO in order to get paid while on jury duty. Judges here don't care if you lose your job. And $27 a day not an hour to sit in a courtroom all day doesn't sound like the most pleasant thing to do.
@@missasgardian It's not. It should be mandated by federal law that in order to tell someone to do jury duty you must reimburse them for a lost day's wages _and_ milage. That would be fair. But no, far too many politicians seem to just want to punish the poor.

The class was for _self Freaking defense._ Did the school really think that, in a situation where you need to defend yourself, it wouldn't be appropriate to, y'know, _DEFEND YOURSELF?_ Because that's exactly what the kids there were supposed to be learning: how to defend themselves...
Besides, If he was as impressive as he clearly _thought_ he was, then shouldn't he have been able to at _least_ fight a literal child without losing horribly?

What is it with creepy self defence coaches? We had a smug little git visit our school, here in the UK, to teach us a few moves. I think there was a spate of child snatching at the time.
Anyway, dude was creepy. Same thing, got me on my back and told the kids that if they find themselves in this position that we should bring our knees up to our chest and kick out, aiming for the hips.
He picked the wrong "volunteer" in choosing me. I was a skinny wirey looking kid, but I was on a cycling team so all my power was in my legs. I also take things to literally, so when he told me to kick out as he leant over me, I kicked out with all the force of Bruce Lee into his hips. Only, I was a bit low in my aim and planted both feet into his upper leg. There was a snap, there was a scream and then there was sobbing.
Yep, 13 year old me had just broken a guy's leg. They had to call an ambulance. I thought I'd be in trouble too, but the pe teacher witnessed the whole thing and stood up for me.

HOA Parking Story: If this happened in Canada or the USA, then by Law, Renters are REQUIRED to be given a complete copy of all HOA CC&R's BEFORE they sign the Rental Agreement...
It's the same as if they were Buying the home, they MUST get a copy of the CC&R's BEFORE the final Sale Paperwork is signed...

I’m from the UK and don’t understand the concept of HOA’s. Considering that Americans value their freedom so much I find it incongruous that they would allow these little organisations to dictate their life. We definitely wouldn’t tolerate it here.
Americans value money above all else, and HOAs exist to keep property values up.
For some property values and the right to tell others what to do is more important than freedom. The rest who have their priorities right can't stand hoas.
Chances are high that you actually have something that is basically functioning similar to HOA's. This is a rather standard practice for apartment blocks due to a large amount of locales that are private and shared space that is not.
Of course, there are various laws regarding the limitations of the above and what not, but it is extremely unlikely that there is no such structure. It's just that it does not cause nearly as much problem as HOA's tend to do for some reason (though still there can be stories of power abuse...or neglect of duty etc.).
Story 1: The problem is not the woman's. Her uncle paid the price. OP did the right thing. Story 2: You can't fire someone for jury duty. Good for that judge! Story 3: The fact that there are self defense courses at all is rather amazing. It is unfortunate that the instructor was so gross. The outcome is brilliant.
Oh, those HOAs are so violation trigger happy. One year, I got 3 HOA violations for 3 different homes that I do not live in nor do I own. First home (neighbor to my left) had a detachable hauling trailer with junk just parked on their long driveway for months. The second one (neighbor to my right) had a moveable bball hoop on the street, in front of their house, and left out for a week. The last property (no idea whose house this was), which was a corner home based on the ‘photo evidence’ provided. They had pulled up all the community bushes next to their fence wall, which was a big no-no.
When I told the HOA that I had no clue whose house that last one was, they asked me if I could ‘walk around’ the neighborhood to ‘figure out’ the address for them. I laughed and told them that’s not my job and it’s why I pay THEM my HOA fees. They needed to do a better job and stop sending me warnings for homes that are not mine. smh

While I was listening to that story I was thinking that if I was in attendance that day I would have got up off the bleachers, walked over to the martial arts man, & done what I had to two bigger boys when they were teasing me mercilessly- I punched them in the mouth & knocked them out cold. One boy was 1-1/2 ft taller & 75 lbs heavier than me. The other boy was 2 ft taller & 50 lbs heavier than me. At 8 yrs old, when these events happened, I was ~4'8" tall & weighed 75 lbs. On the HOA story, my money is on they're singling him out because he's a renter. In my experience HOA (for houses) don't care for rental properties in their domain.
Funny thing there .... being a renter, you would think that the fine would be sent to the owner of the property seeing how, if fines aren't paid, HOA's then place liens on properties, that again being the responsibility of the property owner. Property owners could then turn around and bill the renter for the cost of paying the liens. Unless there is something in the lease agreement between property owner and tenant that they would be directly responsible for fines.
Story 5: all I know is, I would make sure there was SEVERE blow back and repercussions against any school that demonized any child in my care simply for defending themselves, regardless of how. Children have the right to defend themselves against ANY perceived threat of violence and/or harassment. Period.

When I was a supervisor in a local government office, one of my employees was called for jury duty (and selected for the trial) during the worst time of the year for her to be out of the office (yes, there was cross training but still better if she was there herself). The director of the agency out office was under wrote a letter to the courts office requesting that she be excused ....... long story short, the DIRECTOR was told to suck it up and that she better be there ....... which she was with bells on.

I was called for Jury Duty twice. I was on disability at the time, and dealing with severe bladder issues. When the judge arrived a half hour late he shouted, "No one will be excused from jury duty, for any reason!" and stormed off. A friend of mine was there, and he was pissed! He owned and operated a gas station by himself so his business was closed for the day, and the trial was to last about three weeks. Many local businesses bought gasoline from him for their work trucks so it was a severe financial problem if he was selected.
I had made countless trips to the Mens room, but it was lunch time. I went p to the counter to ask if there was a place to get real food, instead of candy bars because I was Diabetic. Then I mentioned that I was supposed to be at my Optician in an hour to get my new glasses. She gave me a shocked look, and excused me.
The second time, I looked like death warmed over. They didn't even let me into the interview area before sending me home. I later found out that 100% disability was supposed to remove you from their list of potential jurors.
Definition of HOA: Karens (male and female) given almost unlimited power to make everyone else comply with their every whim. If you hear HOA, think "HE-double-hockey-sticks".
I listen to these while I drive. I don't know the laws for jury duty but in my mind I was thinking "isn't that illegal? Can you really get fired for showing up for jury and miss work? And doesn't the company have to pay them for going to jury duty?" Then when the judge sent an officer to the company owner I knew I was right. The gut got his just desserts.

I really don’t understand why he’s getting flack, like “omg you’re so mean you should’ve left her car alone”… why? It’s his property, that she’s obstructing, and was extremely aggressive about. I hope they all have the same attitude when someone parks in their driveways of their homes, flips them off and leaves, I hope they’re okay with a complete strangers car at their house…

Many years ago, I was employed as a wrecker driver, and the company did a fair bit of impound work.
We got a call from a guy who lived beyond the end of a distant rural road. Someone had parked their car at his gate (probably to hike to a yet-more-remote spot for some nooky), and he was expecting a water delivery (this being well beyond where "city water" was available).
I got the run, hauled the car the twenty- or twenty-five miles back to our impound yard, and waited.
Sure enough, a few hours later, the owner of the car called, wanting to know how the heck he was going to get to us. This was before cell phones were a thing, so they'd already hiked an extra five or eight miles to find a pay phone (the property owner had sent them packing off his property, having found them...).
Being a wrecker driver taught me to be careful about where I leave my motor vehicle, for sure.
I actually liked serving on the jury the time I got chosen. It's the one chance most of us "normal" citizens have to truly defend the US Constitution. My only problem with serving in my area is getting to the courthouse. Parking is extremely expensive around the area and you're not reimbursed, and getting there via public transit can be a pain because the nearest stop is several blocks away from the courthouse.
I probably wouldn't mind if it worked here like it does in the US.
In Germany, we don't have jury trials, but we do sometimes have a layman serving as second judge. Unfortunately, if you are selected, you are stuck in it for a long time - not just one case. And you don't get your normal pay, you get minimum wage.
I'm not entirely sure how the judgement ends up working, how much power the lay judge actually has. All I know is that, if I get an inkling they might decide to select me, I will leave the country before they do.
At our courthouse, there is designated parking for jurors. All they need to do it put their jury summons in the windshield, and they are exempt from parking fees. (The ONLY thing nice about the courthouse)

She was behind him and screaming and beeping her horn... at the pay window he paid for his order and paid for hers. She settled down and waved at him to thank him. At the ptck up window he collected his order and HER ORDER! FORCING HER TO RETURN TO THE BACK OF THE LINE. LESSON... LEARNED!

A farmer friend of my uncle had a problem with odd cars turning up on his farm, parking where it was most awkward and disappearing after two or three days. He cured this by one time constructing a manure mound over the strange car. He put a tarp over the offending car, built a huge pile of manure over it and put a ramshackle fence around it. Later a stranger knocked on his door asking if anybody had seen a car? He denied any knowledge, showed this bloke around and even had him stand next to the huge mound of slightly smoking manure, about 12 foot from his hidden car and asked "Where did he think he left it and was he sure he had the right farmyard?" As far as i know, its still there, this was in the 1980s.
The Karen in the last story tried tree law and failed magnificently
With the last one if that was me I would have recorded her rants then sent it to all the members of the church to show them what she is like. Although after her actions at the meeting I think they know.
Maybe that's why Karen from the last story is at the church: she thinks that praying for forgiveness there will save her from going to hell for being the nasty human being that she is.

I cannot believe people would not have had that woman's car towed, Noone could have known it was someone elses. Why did she not tell the uncle. This is the new and acceptable behaviour that says freedom is doing anything you want at any time anywhere whether it is legal or not.
I have no problem to what happened to the Karen from the story about the illegal parking but I feel kind of bad for Karen’s uncle, he sounds like collateral damage in this whole thing.
I suspect that what happened there was virtually inevitable. I'm >90% sure that his niece was going to lose that car at some point, since she's all but looking for trouble.

@@christianmarshal6117 If you own a car, anything that happens in regards to that car is your responsibility. That is the reason it is so important to report your car stolen when it happens. Otherwise, if the thief gets into an accident or commits a crime, in/with your car, you are the one held responsible.

Towing the car... Totally the correct response. She challenged the owner of the land to "do something about it." You did and then left her to her devices. I would have made a sign that said "I did something about it. Thank you for your advice." Then placed it in the parking space.
The Jury Service... I have served as well and I am surprised that your boss was let off so easy. Denial of a workplace to provide time off for Jury service is illegal and can result in the workplace being shutdown due to breach of Business laws. Basically to register as a business you sign a document that you will agree to certain laws and requirements. One of those laws in the business contract with the Government is that you will allow employees to attend Jury duty if they are selected. (requirement, not suggestion. There is no legal defence against it and basically what the boss did broke the contract with the government and could have cost him his business.)
Also I would have turned around to the boss at the start and said "So murdering my boss would get me out of Jury duty... you suggested it and said ANYTHING!!" then give him a funny look. lol.
I totally agree with him having the rude females car toed. When property is posted with private property signs you take the responsibility of your car being toed. I don't understand how so many people think it's ok to go on other people's land, and not abide by what the owner says can go on. The entitlement of some people is mind-blowing
The third story i was able to get out of Jury Duty due to Conflict of Interest.
However, I had to see the Ombudsman in person.
So I came in full Uniform, which was the same uniform as Court Security.
When asked I showed a copy of the form and the official who should have dismissed me due to me working for the same company had to get their priorities straight.

I would worry about a person's safety if they left their car on my property for 3 or 4 days. I would give the plates to the police. See the driver or car is missing.
The stress of being a last witness for a missing person. Saying nothing would tear me apart inside.
After college, when I was still trying to figure out a "big girl" job, I delivered pizza (actually was better pay than some sit down jobs) My car broke down outside a customer's house. I asked then if I could leave it there until a tow truck could get it. Probably a day or so. (small town - garage closed on weekends)
The next night, very late, there was a knock at the door. The kind of "knock" that you instantly know it is law enforcement
I answered & a deputy was asking for (whole legal name)
I replied that was me. He made me get my license.
I was thought to be missing since my car had been parked for 2 days unattended in a neighborhood I did not live in.
I explained the situation & stated the homeowner was aware.
Appearantly, the wife forgot to tell the husband & he called the police. I guess he was offended by a pink sports car in front of his house...lol

Last story: Don't know what country this was in, but in the US, public roads have public rights-of-way, or easements. Typically, these are a certain distance from the centerline, often 49' with no curb, or 10' from the inside of the curb. Anyway, even though the property owner owns that land, the easement exists for the purpose of running utilities and, guess what, walking so you don't have to walk in the road!
I am kind of 95% sure it was in US, I don't know any other country that have any roads in cites without sidewalks on both sides (besides undeveloped countries)
The jury duty story reminds me of the one where the boss tried to prevent a reservist OP from obeying a summons from the Pentagon. Unfortunately, in that story, the OP contacted the Big Boss and warned him, that his manager was about to pick a fight he would definitely lose and would get the company in deep trouble.
Oh, HOAs can be SO petty. When I married my husband, 29 years ago, he had the house he bought with his ex. I moved in and was there when he was working. One day I came out and found some little old lady MEASURING the lawn. It was 1/16th of an inch over the approved height and she wrote us a note saying it would need to be cut that night or they would start repossession (yes, they can do that, but not for that short of a grass). I'm SO glad we moved. The home we have now has a 45 year old HOA and they don't give us any problems.

11:48 Pretty sure it's law here in Australia that 1. You get paid while on jury duty and 2. Cannot be fired for attending jury duty, no matter how long it takes to complete. The same week I landed a new job I got called in for jury duty; so as part of my "thank you for employing me" speech I also had to mention "But I have to attend jury selection and may or may not be even here in my first week or for however long it takes". Boss was absolutely fine with it. Best boss ever. Wasn't selected so only absent for one day from my new job. Weirdly, I was called for jury twice in that state. Apparently, (and this is just my guess) there are so few people living in that state without criminal records that I became extremely popular (only lived there for three years). Didn't even have outstanding parking fines lol. Lived for over three decades in another state and only got called for jury duty once.
In the USA, it is ok for the employer to take the $10/day the court pays jurors in exchange for the juror's full regular wages/day. I think payroll needs it, for their records, to show the reason they paid you without you actually being at work & not using your PTO.

When I lived in Texas, we had a HOA and they were awful. I was new to the area, having moved there from TN. In TN, there are no HOA's anywhere. So, I caught a guy, on a ladder, taking pictures over my privacy fence, of our in ground pool. They had already sent me a letter a couple of weeks prior to this because they said "my car was too old of a model and I needed something newer." I was livid and having been raised a good ole country girl from the hills of TN, once I saw the guy taking pictures, I didn't let him know I saw him. I went in the house and out through the front door. I went around to the side of the house. He finally saw me coming and before he could do anything, I kicked the ladder over and he went tumbling. I told him if I ever caught him on my property again, he'd get much worse than just falling off a ladder. I also told him to go back and tell the association that I said "go to hell" and I wouldn't be purchasing a newer model car. If they were offended by it...they could buy me one or shut the hell up about it. They left 2 tickets in my box, to which I ripped up and threw them in the street. Nothing ever came of it LOL
During the early 1960s, my uncle, who owned a soft fruit farm way down in south Kent, England, started getting problems with random cars being parked on odd patches of his farm. He took to putting notices on them saying that if not removed within 24 hours the car would be considered DUMPED and would be scrapped without warning. On at least two occasions that i know of, cars were moved with a bulldozer and pushed into what was an old, dug out chalk quarry on the edge of one of his fields.They were then burnt out before being covered up with several tons of rubble from redevelopment of a couple of old barns which were later replaced with more modern refrigerated units to preserve his strawberries, before they were sold to the processor. At which point he told us with great relish that at least two odd people turned up looking for their " lost cars", had he seen them? He merely commented that due to flytipping, which happened even then, that anything "dumped, parked, but not known, or left ", were removed by a local man, but what he did with them he didn't know. Now we know they are under about twenty feet of rubble and they are probably still there, but nobody admitted anything and feigning ignorance about the matter, just carried on as normal. The problem ceased shortly after that. My uncle died in the 1990s and the farm, still a soft fruits farm to this day was sold. If you want to use this, feel free, anybody concerned are long gone, but we had a few laughs over it.

So something to note about HOA's that people might not know or be aware of, there are 2 types.
The type we hear about in Reddit stories are run entirely by elected HOA board members, and this is the issue. Because, aside from the fat head and power trip it can give them, they literally have to fine residents to bring in enough money to cover expenses.
The other type of HOA is the one you actually want. Because the elected board members are basically an advocacy/oversight board to a management company. The beauty in this is that the management company doesn't care about stupid rules, and will strike out any that may be legally questionable. And because it is a huge company managing dozens of properties, they get much better rates on contracts for landscaping, pool service, roofing, etc. And as such don't need to fine people to get it, the monthly dues are enough.
The neighborhood my house is in had both. At first all the stupid rules, no kids playing in the grass, no working on cars, nothing left outside your fence, etc, etc. And the weekly fining meetings, literally every week they had a batch of fines to go through. That was until the queen bees husband who was the president died, people had had enough of that bitter old bitch.
There were a few interim presidents, before no one wanted it, and they brought in this management company. Literally over night, the fines stopped. The rules went from multiple pages to like 10 bullet points. And things just work now, everything gets done when it should and proactively, no one bothers you over stupid stuff, its great.
So lesson to be learned TLDR, if buying a house with an HOA, make sure there's a management company running things, not the actual board.
I've seen horror stories about HOAs with management companies, too, but I can believe that the likelihood of the HOA being terrible is lower with one.
I still think not having one in the first place is the way to go. HOAs are not really a thing in my country and I'm glad for it.

Plus side is, never have to worry about the roof on my house, painting it, cutting the grass or the pool.
I mean yeah I still pay for it, but never have to worry about getting it done. So definitely a do your research thing.

The biggest problem with the acid woman in the last story is she was not called out on her behaviour. Until there is a consequence she will always be hostile. Just chat to her boss and ask if he needs that image projected of his church.
In regards to the one about the neighbor who was a deacon in their church but was being evil about the sidewalk. I was truly hoping the community meeting had been taped and someone had sent copies to the pastor and other deacons to show how she behaved outside of the church setting. People like that are meant to be leaders of the faith and her behavior showed that she was not capable of that.
