    Second story.
I used to work in retail...menswear specifically ( as well as other things ). I more often than not managed to strike up a good friendly relationship with customers. Including the ones in this story.
The couple I'm referring to were recently married...both in their mid twenties...a really nice couple.
    So they became regular customers.
Now since the guy had to travel a fair bit he needed good quality clothing that was reasonably fashionable but also conservative in style...which was exactly the style we had...it was also very good quality at a decent price. So good was our relationship we became good friends not just client / saleman...to the extent that when they turned up one time it was immediately obvious she was expecting. My instant reaction was to look at them...then point...and say 'It wasn't me '!...to which they both burst out laughing.
Not long after the baby (a little girl ) was born they brought her up to the shop I worked in to show her off to me...and I became an unofficial 'Uncle' :-)
    Well...a few years go by...and now we have a new manager...who was a total W*** stain !
A nasty piece of work all round...he was a bully ( didn't work on me lol....we'd had run in's before ).
So...my 'friends' turn up one day with my 'niece'....who had ( I was told later ) been told where they were going...to see 'Uncle' at work...and she was excited at the thought.
So they walk in and little one spots me, breaks away from her parents and runs at me crying out 'Uncle...Uncle'. I was just finishing dealing with another customer and said. 'Please do excuse me...but I REALLY need to see this little lady before she knocks everybody flying'. He laughed and said 'go ahead'.
So little one reaches me with her arms held up for me to pick her up, I bend down to scoop her up and give her a hug...Mum and Dad come over with huge grins on their faces...right up until the manager came over and started to berate me for 1/ leaving a customer. and 2/ Behaving in a manner that 'he' considered 'Inappropriate'.
You could see the hackles rise on both of my friends, that turned to anger when the manager told me that one of the other salesmen would be taking over. My friends instantly said if that was going to be the case they were leaving and would be contacting H/O with a complaint...and would not be back at this branch again.
On average my friends would spend somewhere in the region of £800.00 to a £1000.00...each visit...and that would be 2 or 3 times a year.
So he lost a regular good spending customer...and I left about two months later to work for a large store in Oxford Street ( they Sell Fridges ).
Oh...btw...I attended 'Little one's wedding some years later...as her 'Uncle' :-)

Last story: Something with similar results happened to me at my doctor's practice. They misunderstood a message from my pharmacist and accused me of getting two of the same script on the same day from the same pharmacy! Yeah, right! Like that would even happen! I got my doc to finally talk to my pharmacist and it turned out both the nurse and doc had called in the script and the pharmacist only wanted to know which script they wanted him to honor.
How they got me 'double-dipping' out of the message is beyond me, but, they had sent me a certified letter discharging me from the practice. When it came out that THEY were the ones who screwed up, they rolled out the red carpet for me! It was pathetic! Yeah, I found another doc.

The last story - what OP did is called "turboing". Basically, politely bother the chain of command all the way to the top. A friendly inquiry "what's up with that email?" from the minister will turn into "holy shit, get off our behinds, that person must be important!" at the department level and get stuff moving at the highest non-emergency priority.

Story 1 - Fun fact: Pink being "girly" is relatively recent, roughly only the last 50 or so years, and it's believed to have primarily been a result of marketing campaigns. Before that, neither colour was particularly associated with a gender on a wide scale, with some places having boys in pink because it was a "strong, masculine" colour while blue for girls as it was a "calmer, feminine" shade, while other places did the opposite. In fact, it was only towards the end of the 1800's that coloured clothes became common place for very young children - before that, they were more commonly dressed in white dresses until they were roughly 5-6, regardless of gender.

    • @AuntLoopy123
      @AuntLoopy123 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yep. We did a switch, from pink being masculine to pink being girly. I wish they hadn't, because now we have pink tool boxes and other "masculine" things that have to be "feminized," because otherwise a woman won't wield them, or something. Sorry, but a hammer is a hammer. I don't need it to be a particular color.
Pink has just spread all over the place, with genderization, and it's SO annoying to me.

I have to dress in the whole suit and tie affaire every day. When I am not working I dress for comfort. Usually a sweat suit. I walked into a local custom car shop and said that I wanted to order a car. The salesmen in the office work off commission. When I walked in I was greeted by a guy that said to me “no we are not hiring”. I replied “no I am here to order a car”. This guy replies “listen we aren’t a dealership and our cars are way too expensive for someone like you”. I got a little annoyed and was about to pull out my Amex black card but another guy goes I can help you over here. He took my order. A fully customized, fully loaded Jeep Compass with a hell of a sound-system and custom paint and interior. It totaled over $200,000 for the whole thing. This includes them buying the car and customizing it for me. At the end the guy goes “We will only start working when paid in full but you will have to be paid up in 12 months.” I said “ that won’t be a problem” and pulled out my Amex Black card. And the guy that blew me off nearly had a stroke and got up and walked out. The guy that was helping me said “dumb ass needs to stop judging people by the way they dress. Once you said you wanted to order a car I knew you must have money.” I said “you get guys like me all the time?” He said “I have been working here for 25 years. The richest people that come in here tell me the same thing. That when they aren’t making money they dress for comfort”. That first guy missed out on a massive commission from me.

But she was in for quite a surprise, while I was gone, my mother, ( who was in charge of executive travel, for the biggest company in town) had called to make reservations for a large party of execs, and wound up getting a cold shoulder from her, so she payed, the owner of the hotel a little visit, ( the hotel was only a block from her office) and informed him that in the future, her company would be doing business with the other hotel in town, and their reasons for doing so, when she went to try and get me fired, that was the last straw, and it was her who got fired!

    Re: the last story/shoulder injury
As a public servant the last thing you want to hear is that there has been a complaint made about you to the minister that oversees your department.
I have had three, all complaints by people that expected that i was there personal servant & slave because i work for the government, so they were easily dispensed with. When you get a ministerial you basically stop what you are doing, clear your days itinerary if need be and resolve the complaint that day. Also the ministerial comes from the top down, the minister doesn't contact you, he contacts senior management in your department and this is then sent down the chain of management, hence it gets a priority response that day.
So OP's complaint was like a hand-grenade with the pin pulled out, nobody wanted to be holding it when it exploded, Karen would have been in a world of hurt, and to prevent management being scrutinized or asked any difficult questions they decided to prioritize it, as that makes the problem go away.
FOOTNOTE: one of my ministerial's occurred because i wouldn't let a couple leave a crime scene until the police were satisfied that they understood the chain of events and had spoken to any people they felt were relevant to a stabbing (injured person left the scene and was transferred to hospital by private vehicle), i had located the knife driven into a picnic table, and it was at that point i called in Police as we had the location that the stabbing had occurred at and we knew that there would be witness in the people that were near to the table, but apparently for this couple that was inconvenient to them and they had to leave now, followed by a dummy spit when i explained the police instruction... they complained, i forwarded my situation report, the police report, and a timeline of events, apparently there story wasn't supported by my documentation & the Police report (so, yeah they lied there asses of)

They all said that those pictures were wrong. They said that we were just seeing part of the umbilical cord. So I made a bet with anyone who was up for it (mil was the first taker) over whether or not we were having a girl or boy. 3 months later, at about 5 am on my birthday no less, I was woke up by my wife and a wet bed. Almost 6 hours later, I was paid by everyone who lost the bet, including mother in law. Her reason for claiming that we were having a girl even with contradictory proof? This person came in to the car dealership. Dressed in buisness casual. Shirt and jeans. Started looking at different cars, looking at prices. No salesman came to ask if they needed help or just windowshopping. After 40minutes, the costumer started to leave and a salesman screamed across the floor. "Did you need anything?" in a very disrespecting voice. "I had planned to buy 3 brand new cars for my company and 1 used car for private use. But now I will leave and go to your competitor".
Even if they look like they can't afford anything, don't judge a book by the cover! Or you might loose out on a big sale.

Story 1 = One of my SIL's was born on April 1. I jokingly told her that her mom's doctor said to her, "April Fools, it's a girl." She told me that is exactly what happened since he told her mom that the ultrasound said it was going to be a Boy!
Story 2 = I met a man who had multiple successful businesses. He realized as he was working in his garden that he forgot to get a gift for his wife. He went to Jacobsons store (went out of business) and no one would help him. Then he showed 3 $100 bills. Then several people wanted to help him. He told them that he would NEVER shop there again. He also told me that he went to get a loan from his bank. The person who handled his account was on vacation and the person who "helped" him told him that he could not give a loan without any collateral. When the person came back from vacation the man closed his accounts and his mother closed her accounts (big money also) and the bank went out of business.

It would have been the perfect comeback.

Story 2 reminds me of when my dad went to a new housing development with my youngest sister. He was in his work clothes: dirty shirt, old jeans, steel-toed boots. They wouldn't even give him the time of day when at the time, the houses were well within his means and he was seriously considering getting one. He left and is still in the house I grew up in.

    This mother-in-law definitely overstepped.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand that CSR’s are required to protect private information, but when the person calling is authorized they aren’t to block said information or worse deny individual information from the member themselves. That nonsense right there is why folks get cussed at every time.

This couldn't have been more timely!
I am dealing with a situation with a medical care provider, Karen. In this case though Karen averted barriers in place for my health and safety. Totally disregarding notices in my files. It wasn't the first time someone has done something similar. It is the *third time* this particular Karen has done the exact same thing wrong.
I needed a reminder that this happens to a lot. Being angry about it is okay. Spreading the consequences is a valid tactic to increase motivation for meaningful change. 😏👍

When turned down, I quit, especially since I had already found a better paying job, but I wanted to see if I could negotiate without having to change jobs. My former boss reacted the same way, so I quit and they got angry at me yet fired for screwing up in not finding a replacement for me.

Story 2: my SO and I dealt with the same kind of thing. We had gone to a local furniture store to look for a coffee table. We knew the style we wanted when we headed there. My SO was dressed casually, as was I. When we first got there, we initially looked at other styles in case we found something else we liked. One salesperson came to us, asking the usual questions: How are you?, How can I help you? We told her that we had been looking at a specific table online and was wondering if they had it in stock. She looked at us rather skeptically and said “I’ll go see what I can find out.” After she left, we found the table we had been looking for, at the price we expected: $600. We patiently waited for her to come back. After almost 20 minutes, I wandered over towards a different section and spied the salesperson chatting with her co-workers. I had had enough. I confronted her and asked for a business with her name on it. As she gave it to me, I informed her that I would be sending an email to head office regarding her behaviour towards us, as we were prepared to spend close to $1000 in the store. But she lost out on that commission. We did send that email but never heard a thing back about her. We have never stepped foot in that store since.

When my husband and I were engaged, we went to the Shane Co to look at rings. We were wearing the clothes we were painting in, so we looked obviously not the greatest. The woman attempting to help us told us she would not be showing us anything over 500$ and refused to listen to us when we told her we'd rather see more. We were there maybe 45 seconds when we just looked at each other and walked out.

I went into a local appliance store when I moved to my current city because I left my appliances at my old flat that I was letting and renting a flat here, unfurnished. All the male salesmen ignored me because I was a woman alone. The lone female asked if she could help. I thanked her and got a washing machine, fridge-freezer, microwave and vac. This was around 30 years ago so £1,000 worth of goods, roughly. As we were sorting out the paperwork the men kept passing by looking at what was going on and kicking themselves that they had lost the best sale of the week. I hope she got a fat bonus because she was helpful and did not mess me around.

When I escorted my wife in her 1st pregnancy, in her 8th month to her mother's home so they could give her expert attention during the last days + delivery + 1st month of the baby (our parents lived in the same city), my uncle decided to call family for a religious rite (fire + chanting by priests). At the end after the priest blessed us all esp the mother and fetus, and uncle grandly told us we were going to have a healthy baby boy.

I understand she can’t discuss the patient, but to refuse to give out the email just shows her to be a cow. I work in the NHS and if I spoke to someone that way then I would be in really big trouble.

Story 2) Looking poor equals poor service.
    Case in point:
    Clabber Girl Baking Powder
    Indianapolis Speedway
What do those two things have in common?
    Tony Hulman Jr.
He owned both for years including several Coke a Cola bottling plants
And a few radio and TV stations in Indiana and Florida.
Tony Hulman Jr lived in Terre Haute Indiana. He dressed in well cared for but worn everyday clothes not expensive suits just what any blue collar man of the times wore. He drove a Chevy for years, in the 60s both he and his car could be found at one local diner or another. He was visually no different than any other average man.

My grandpa, before he passed away, kept insisting I was gonna be a boy. Even after seeing the ultrasounds he kept calling me 'Otis' and even had a onesie custom stitched with the name on it. Everyone knew he was joking and all had good laughs about it. Even he was just trying to make my moms pregnancy more relaxing for her. So yeah. There's a difference between 'in denial' and 'just making a joke'. My mom still has that and even dressed me in it for pictures when I was born, since my grandpa passed a month before I popped out. Almost an exact month too.

The story about the salesman that ditched the 'homeless looking guy' reminded me of a story I heard once when I was in Austin, TX. A guy walked into a Cadillac dealership dressed in a tee shirt and cutoffs. He was asking about some of the models and was given the newest salesman to talk to, as they figured it was just someone that wanted to test drive some Cadillac's and couldn't afford one. The salesman treated him like trash and so the guy left. He went back to his office at Dell Computers (for those that don't know, Dell's home office is in Roundrock, TX, a 'stones throw' north of Austin). He phoned the dealership and introduced himself. The story goes, after introducing himself (Michael Dell) on the phone, he had no trouble speaking to the owner of the dealership, who after kissing much rearage worked out a nice deal for Mr. Dell.

Stoory #2 My neighbors across the street had a house just like mine (but different trim.) They were nice, t-shirts & jeans people and not flashy. One day, I noticed TWO identical new cars in their driveway ( different colors.) Tony was out there, lovingly wiping a bumper. I smiled and waved, saying, "Nice rides!" He laughed, saying he got an amazing deal for paying cash in full for both! That was the day I realized that a millionaire will usually look like the average dude.

Story 2 was legit so relatable for me. That's legit how the HR and everyone higher then the leader of the specified area (something similar to a department head) at Amazon acted. I got fired after being sent home sick and what not at the peak of the Covid issues cause I 'missed too many days' and I emailed the email that they said to reply to urgently within 24-48 hours and I sent several emails, as a follow up to both main HR and the actual site HR... and low and behold not a single person actually read my darn email cause next thing I knew was fired. But no worries since they were 'gracious enough' to hire me back. Buuut on the downside, I lost out on the entire season of Peak and a lot of money that I was planning on putting towards my University transfer the following Summer. I was actually one of the really fast workers in my area and it was honestly one of the few things I was proud of. But this shows they don't care who they are or what they've done for the company. Of course there are numerous other stories, but this one took the icing of the cake since it effectively allowed them to legally not have to pay me for the entire month of peak. Since they said it'd take 3 days to fix it and get me reinstated and next thing I knew, a month had passed. Yup, I ain't going there again and they lost my respect. 🤷

My husband and I are prime examples of not looking like having money. And when we're not at work, we're always dressed as comfy & laidback as possible. Throw in piercings, tattoos, colorful hair when it's summer (school system), & sassy t-shirts, and people tend to give us side eyes in public. However, we've both worked in the service industry, plus I'm a counselor in the education system so we lenjoy tipping well for good service and there are certain things we do prefer higher end brands of. Nothing infuriates me more than people who give us looks like we're lesser than and will avoid trying to help us. There are certain stores I avoid simply because of this. Don't judge a book by its cover. 🤷‍♀️

The Washer Story: From where I come from there's this rich guy who would simply dress in his undershirt and shorts when you meet him on the street (think "The Beast" from "Kung-Fu Hustle"). I've also been to this place where I've met this man in his undershirt and shorts lazily lounging on a rocking chair, thinking he's just an ordinary local--he was the town mayor.
And, oh: that reminds me of my parents when they bought a van. The salespeople in the dealership won't even attend to them, just because they dressed in simple clothes. Well, to their surprise, they bought the van cash (which they don't like because they earn more commission through installment basis). We only went back there once before transferring the care of our new van to the newly opened dealership closer to home.
