My mother died from Fatty Liver Disease in 2014. She never drank alcohol, was normal weight, and relatively healthy. She was diagnosed with fatty liver 20 years prior, but they never told her what that meant or what to do about it. It was dismissed as “oh well, a lot of people have it. No big deal”. About 15 years later she started getting sick, but they couldn’t figure out what was wrong with her. GERD, fatigue, bloating, mental fog, rosacea. By the time they figured out it was her liver she was terminal. Then they put her on the totally wrong diet. Fruit, carbs, low protein…margarine rather than butter, ugg! totally backwards! Now I have it. Im 59 years old and have it too. Im doing my own research on diet and liver health. I don’t think doctors get trained properly on nutrition. Sadly many people are killings themselves with carbs and seed oils and they don’t know it.

@@cg5611 Sorry to hear that. Seems like carbs are killing us. Whole wheat toast, margarine and organic raspberry jam - that was her morning meal that she thought was healthier than bacon and eggs. It’s probably the other way around.

I have all those symptoms except the breast tissue, my husband has all those symptoms and the breast tissue. I was diagnosed with fatty liver disease about 12 years ago and they did not give me any recommendations on what to do. I've had to do all the research and everything myself to learn how to deal with it and trying to reverse it! So I've got to cut out a lot of things out of my diet and go back to drinking my apple cider vinegar. I've had trouble with my right shoulder all summer it had been hurting so bad and I went to a chiropractor for 12 weeks for therapy. It helped what the ultrasound they did, but it's starting to hurt again and I'm having all of the same symptoms over again.

It’s beyond choices now when they aren’t even required to list the ingredients used beyond the vague description…such as ascorbic acid used in 99% of all store bought foods comes from black mold….most enriched foods have been stripped of all nutrients and replaced with synthetic nutrients out varies can’t absorb….now they have replaced meat with lab grown meat that for knows what they’re pumping into it….in the US, it is nearly impossible to eat a clean diet with food that’s not full of some sort of chemical….so there is no choice for most of us

My advice would be to just get rid of the sugar, bad carbs etc completely. One of the most important lessons I've learned on my journey is abstinence is easier than self control

    • @knyght1074
      @knyght1074 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

Not true at all. It takes self control to be abstinence.
Some people don't have the self control to resist desires. And to most abstinence is a mental struggle.

    • @febiewill1570
      @febiewill1570 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

I totally agree and I love how you put that: ABSTINENCE IS EASIER THAN SELF CONTROL. I get it. When I try to follow a “balanced diet” where portion control and calorie counting or macro adherence is the goal, I tend to feel inclined to cheat; whereas, if I just fast (abstain) until my eating window, it’s so much more simple than to keep “teasing” myself with palatable food that makes you want MORE throughout the day, consistently challenging “self control”. Fasting makes dieting more concrete. 1 rule, basically. Simply, don’t eat until your refueling window. Therefore, abstinence IS easier than self control!

How do you achieve abstinence without self control? It takes huge level of self control to say "I am hungry but I am not gonna eat"
I'd say self control is the more important aspect in nutrition, workout or even when buying stuff.

Scientists debunk claims of seed oil health risks
June 22, 2022-While the internet may be full of posts stating that seed oils such as canola and soy are “toxic,” scientific evidence does not support these claims, according to experts. Guy Crosby, adjunct associate of nutrition at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, was among those quoted in a May 31, 2022 Consumer Reports article who pushed back on the idea that these oils cause health ills ranging from headaches to heart disease.
While it’s true that many foods that use seed oils-such as packaged snacks and french fries-are unhealthy, they also tend to be high in refined carbohydrates, sodium, and sugar. “Sure, if you cut back on these foods, chances are you’re going to feel better,” Crosby said. But these other components, not the seed oils themselves, are the culprit behind weight gain and other negative health outcomes.

You left out “brain fog” caused by high ammonia levels in the body. I thought I was mentally losing my “edge” and took early retirement. Two years later I had a liver transplant. My mother and older sister both also had cirrhosis. None of us were drinkers, all slightly overweight, and there is autoimmune disease history in my mother’s family.
If you suspect you have liver problems understand that not ALL gastroenterologist docs can deal with this. Took me three gastroenterology-docs before I found the right one.

    • @hgj2019

@@guy7524 well, let me think. It is complicated.
(Update edit! After surviving over 5 years my doc has advised that I can now stop one of my anti rejection meds! “Cellcept” aka mycophenolate, will no longer be part of my daily diet if coming off it goes well. I’ll have labs in two weeks to verify all “ok”. I will still take program, presumably until the end. This is especially good as cellcept can cause some of the GI problems I’ve been struggling with.)
The anti rejection meds I take are designed to kill my immune system so it will not kill the liver, and me. Well-meaning friends make suggestions about what I can take to strengthen my immune system. I have to explain to them that if I didn’t take the meds my immune system would be strong enough to kill me. One of the anti rejection meds pre disposes me to cancer, it also makes it difficult for me to fight cancer if I get it. So I should wear sunscreen to help reduce the risk of skin cancer. (I HATE sunscreen.) Something as simple as a pimple could get serious if the infection gets out of hand. Same with dental problems.
Because of those meds COVID has been a nightmare. I had a good friend who also had a transplant (took the same meds). He caught Covid last December and was dead in two weeks. Before, I never took any sort of vaccine. Just never felt the need. Now I am strongly advised to take several a year. Flu, RSV, shingles, Covid. Pretty much whatever they advise.
I was advised to only drink chlorinated water (no well or spring water). Makes backpacking and camping difficult. My dreams of visiting natural hot springs for a soak have been put away. Too risky. Fishing can also be a problem, especially wading in a stream where I might fall in. No wild swimming.
Don’t travel because motels and airlines could lead to infection. Just too risky, so I only travel for doc visits, occasionally to visit family.
Sometimes the meds make me feel sick, nauseated, no energy, no interest in doing anything.
Oh, and I cannot buy life insurance.
In a way I kinda resent having to take all the meds. I went over 60 years and took no maintenance meds. Didn’t need them. Now I take about 20 pills a day. Some just vitamins and minerals, others serious drugs.
If I had it to do over, would I get the transplant? If there were no feasible alternatives I would do it again without hesitation. It was a miserable, month long, $600000 ordeal (price five years ago). As miserable as some times are the memory of how terribly sick I was is strong. I really didn’t realize how sick I truly was until I got better.
Our best guess is that my illness was hereditary. My mother and sister had similar problems. Losing weight might have helped, but when you reach a certain point it is just not possible. A few years before the transplant I realized that I was gaining weight, even put myself on a 1000 calorie a day diet and did a lot of walking, but it was out of control.
I feel as though I have said too much, and maybe I should give it a rest. Suffice it to say that there have been a lot of changes, but I recognize that I was blessed by being very literally pulled from death’s door.

I'm so glad I found this video. I was diagnosed with Fatty Liver Disease about 8 years ago. Even though my Doctor at the time was well aware of it she never explained to me on what needed to be done to repair the damage. Because I had other serious health issues at the time the focus was on that and finding a way to keep me alive until I was approved by my insurance company for a Pacemaker. I was on Diabetic medications to help with my borderline Diabetes and recently my Doctor told me there was no reason to continue taking it because he felt I didn't have Diabetes and now I'm having some serious complications. I think it's due to the Fatty Liver. Findin this video was a blessing so I can focus on getting my Liver checked and make certain I receive the care I need to help heal my Liver and be able to live as long as possible. Thank you.

I was diagnosed with this 5 months ago after a CT scan and blood tests, symptoms first occurred while I was on a health and exercise spree for about a year and a half. I was pretty consistent with keto during this time, and my BMI was the lowest it had been in 10 years or so. My exercise regime was a three day rotation (Push,Pull,Legs) where I would take a day break in-between each where I would go on an hour long walk. It's wouldn't be to much of an exaggeration to say I was in the best shape I had been in my whole life so the diagnoses of "Fatty liver disease" absolutely baffled me.
For the full context I will go into a little bit of a lengthy explanation here on what my initial symptoms where, how was I diagnosed, what the most likely cause was, what I am doing to combat it, and maybe if you care to keep reading how it's going so far.
Nearly two years into a New years resolution that had stuck where I was dead set on losing weight and getting into shape I had successfully dropped 50 pounds "ish" of fat and was diligently following an exercise regime. One day I was doing my usual push routine where in my middle of my bench I got a sharp pain underneath my right ribcage, if I had to describe it I would say it was similar to a charley horse in intensity but a fraction of the duration. The sharpest pain didn't last all that long however I was left with a lingering "knot" in the area would be the best way to describe it, with bouts of pain occurring again depending on how I moved, aggravating it with pressure or by flexing my core. This is what lead me to believe that either one of two things happened, (feel free to call me stupid in hindsight as I probably should have immediately consulted a doctor) however what I thought was either I "pulled" something during the lift OR I had just gotten a hernia. Now what I had done was operate under the tried and true "walk it off" mantra and wait and see if it was a one off occurrence or if it would linger. If only I was so lucky, however from there got things only got worse "go figure", here is a rapid fire list of symptoms I had over a rather short period of time. First of all the "knot" like sensation below my right ribcage hardly ever fades (even now) but that's just where it starts, I don't know how many times I have woken is such a sharp stabbing pain below my right shoulder blade (It's like you have thrown your back out or pinched a nerve.... that bad) on a couple occasions it was so bad I could hardly get out of bed and just called in to work. That symptom at first was also mistaken as the result of physical activity and I didn't directly link it to the "knot" in my abdomen, I was also experiencing a lot of nosebleeds around this time also, with them occurring primarily in the shower and were very persistent which was cool. What finally triggered me to stop "walking it off" and talk to a doctor is when I had passed a stool that was strangely pale almost white (weird right?) and I remember looking in the mirror and noticing the whites of my eyes where not white but a gross (yellowish) color that actually freaked me out a bit.
So I finally go to the doctor, I ramble off all these things that have happened and he goes "oh those are the symptoms for jaundice" yay... but he seem awfully unconcerned so I wasn't too worried at first. I will be more brief from here as this is already getting wordy (sorry). So he ordered a blood test and that came back all green except for two liver enzymes that were not in the "normal" ranges. I can't remember the name of the two enzymes but they are linked with liver damage if they are high so we opted for a CT scan (without contrast) to see if there is anything obvious going on. Sure enough the results came back with an "Enlarged Liver" now how they can tell how big it's supposed to be I don't know but the doctor said it's most likely Non alcoholic fatty liver disease, (Did I mention I don't drink?) and this is where things go off the tracks a bit. The reason things got weird with this doctor is because he had recommended to me the diet I had nearly religiously followed for 2 years! I ate an outrageous amount of broccoli on keto and avoided all the unhealthy oils that have omega-6s, I was already doing exactly what is recommended for combatting this disease! It was at this point that I went around doing a bit of my own research, because now I knew what the problem was and that the culprit was probably something wrong with my diet and it actually didn't take that long to figure out what the problem was.
So I am sure I will get some flack for such an obvious mistake I had made on my "Health Journey" but in the health nut circles I had heard that Erythritol was a acceptable alternative sweetener. I won't mince words here, I drank a lot of energy drinks, specifically the monster rehabs that were advertised as 10 calories, "Tea" and seemingly sweetened with Erythritol instead of sugar. With full disclosure I drank at least one a day, they were delicious and I thought they would minimally impact my diet, I saw results and they helped me crush a workout and have energy at work. You might think that "duh" energy drinks are just a chemical concoction stimulant that obviously won't have long term health benefits, well the plot thickens. It turns out and it didn't take me too long to find this online that on Sucrose "commonly found artificial sweetener especially in energy drinks" the weight of studies strongly suggest that sucrose and HFCS are major risk factors for NAFLD"Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease". Fructose causes fatty liver through the general activation of lipogenesis and blocking of fatty acid oxidation. That is copied straight out of the medical journal of Hepatology, so now I have a smoking gun "yay..." it got a little richer from there since the link is exacerbated when you are on a high fat diet "Kind of like keto... oof".
That all being said I cut out all energy drinks cold turkey "duh" and have tried to hammer even harder the cruciferous vegetables among other healthy eating habits and kept up with my walking but unfortunately still haven't been able to get back on my weightlifting routine "not sure if I even want to" it's been about three months and it's been anything but a "quick fix" apparently years of liver damage aren't healed that quickly. The bouts of pain are still common but I am hopeful that I am heading in the right direction.
A real quick aside, before going to the doctor I had dug around on the internet for answers and couldn't find any, maybe this blurb will help someone else, at the very least anyone who reads this can affirm what should already be obvious... ENERGY DRINKS ARE BAD FOR YOU! lol
    Hope this finds you well.

Yes, I remember the 4 food groups from school. This was a well meaning campaign to start with. People in Scandinavia post WWII suffered from a lot malnutrition. The government did an educational program on nutrition with a plate with cross section lines making four equal parts which ideally make up what a person should eat in a meal. It was very successful and nutritionists wanted to do something similar in America. In Scandinavia 1. Fruits, 2, vegetables, 3. Grains and carbs, 4). Animal products. But in America the various food industries lobbying the government gave us the fruit and vegetables combined into 1/4, Meat and milk expanded to a square each or half of the meal, and grains the last part. And heart attack rates skyrocketed.

Sedentary lifestyles, processed foods ladened with manufactured-manipulated corn syrups and seed oils are the primary things that have us in an epidemic of fatty and inflamed fatty liver disease.

You realize regular people who don’t drink everyday or occasional drinker don’t get alcohol withdrawal right? Only people who get alcohol withdrawal are alcoholics; people who abuse alcohol and those who develop dependence on it. You didn’t know what’s considered “normal”. I saw an article of some actor who developed acute pancreatitis, severely painful inflammation of pancreas, acting all shocked the fact he developed pancreatitis. He said “I’m not alcoholic I just shared a half bottle of whisky with my coworker, and just finished an entire bottle of white wine then I started to have acute pain…”. I mean WTF drinks half the bottle of whisky and drink an entire bottle of wine for several days in a row and says “I am not a heavy drinker”. People don’t know “normal”.
I for one, don’t drink only once a month if at all. Yeah I don’t drink. Don’t like how it makes me feel. And I consider it normal.

Once your body starts burning fat for fuel, the first place it goes is the liver. Start off with a 72 hour fast. That, alone, will work wonders. Do three 72 hour fasts over the course of three weeks, then on the fourth week, do a seven day fast. You will be the healthiest you've been since you were a kid, and have a brand new liver!
