Hey guys, thanks for stopping by. I’m very curious what do you think about the video and the scanner itself. You’re most welcome to share your feedback! Also, forgive the ugliness of those 3D prints, I’m saving cash for the new printer but it takes time. Anyways, always love to see you here! Cheers!
I have used this scanner, and I must say I am blown away every time I use it. Constructive criticism, You should of put the markers on the pad supplied. Marker mode is drastically more accurate. Also, never put markers on a curved surface like you demonstrated with the cone shape. I don't know but, I sometimes get the feeling that some youtubers deliberately create content that'll make people point out the mistakes the creator is making. Or is this Ai ????
Honestly I didn’t use the markers when I was already satisfied with the outcome quality. I used it on the smaller models that were confusing for the scanner due to the plain geometry. Now, if you’re not supposed to put markers on the curved surface, what else can we do when Otter loses tracking? I tried to scan round objects like bottles and mugs, and without markers they were just infinitely spinning around. Markers helped a lot in such cases. I’m not deflecting your opinion, but it doesn’t quite match with my experience. Hope to hear more about your perspective! And nope, none of the script is AI, it’s weeks of my work in writing, recording and editing ;)
@@jtjames79 I did that too! It helped a little bit, but then you have to carefully remove the block from scanned data, which can be annoying. But using markers directly on smooth items worked just fine for me
Awesome video. I'd actually love one with a bit more "how too" i have this scanner, and so far havent gotten a single successful scan! Flipping objects, always looses tracking beyond repair. Even with dots added to the floor. This would help me greatly :)
@@skopilianos awesome, thanks for sharing your needs! Little tip I’ve noticed: if you’re losing tracking on small objects, maintain a greater distance from object. Keep the dot on the blue color instead of green, I find it easier to stay on track that way. I also noticed that overexposure hurts my results - if the top left corner camera flashes red during the scan, manually decrease the exposure. It worked for me ;) I’ll consider making a tutorial video about using the scanner, I’ll probably need to practice a bit too!
Hello great video, did you scan a person or a head of i person? This would be a great thing, i am searching for years to get a scanner to do this. I tried many revopoints and bought them on kickstarter. But they all are quite bad. Hope you can tell me something about scanning humans, maybe you make a video?
I actually scanned 2 heads already, the faces turn out great, the hair can be problematic especially if it’s dark color. I also scanned a person with the hat on to cover the hair and it was amazingly easy. If you want I can make a video about it in the future :)
@@XhodanXeus I’m in that lucky position and trust me, it is awesome 👀 right now I’m fixing a lamp that has been broken for years, but since I have another identical one, I can just scan and print the missing parts. Enough to say, it’s a great combo
A _quite important_ point; The actual claimed size range is not at all what you claim in the video. Interestingly, you got it wrong in several ways. The minimum size is 10*10*10mm, which comes out to 1,000mm^3 or 1cm^3. The maximum size is 2,000*2,000*2,000mm, which is 8,000,000,000mm^3 - or 8m^3... Just saying.
Absolutely correct, I’ve made a thought shortcut which lead to this mistake. Embarrassing error on my side, I hope the message went through nonetheless. Thanks for pointing it out!
I said I don’t want to just give you my opinion but to show the results. I encourage you to make your own mind basing on what you’ve seen in the video ;) doing my best to keep it objective as possible
@@architech_the_engineer hi, that's fair enough! Review was also nice and in-depth. I guess I'm just a bit biased because it is so hard to find any review that is not a 'paid promotion' these days..
I feel you. I’m also annoyed about the soulless promotion everywhere. You may not believe me, but I actually stated with the Creality team that I only agree to do the review if I can be completely honest about the product. You can see in the last part of video that I don’t hesitate to mention what I’m not impressed about. My audience is more important to me than a random product, and I only accept cooperations that grant me freedom of speech and only when the company is not shady. I hope to not fail your trust ✌️
@@architech_the_engineer I appreciate that as a random viewer, also thanks for taking the time to reply! As a matter of fact I have the Otter on my way to me, ordered it a few days ago so maybe that's also why i was being a bit extra ... 'sour'... I feel it was not totally fair to you, the video was really very well-executed, and clearly a lot of time went into it. And your observations were very useful. There is one thing I am curious about, as I read somewhere that it has problems scanning 90 degree corners. Would be nice to know if you ran into that issue. But I guess I will be able to test it out for myself in a couple of days.
@architech_the_engineer some old time interior replacement parts for a car. Some handles have some details in it that i would like in the print. Made a few prototypes but dimensions are hard to get right so I was hoping this would help.
That’s exactly why I’ve made this video, so you can know such details before buying the device. Yes it would be more convenient without the wires, but the amount of data running through them is quite significant. I’d prefer to use the wires and have the data collected quickly and effortlessly, then have it other way around. Anyways, thanks for the comment!
There is a wireless accessoire: Scan Bridge. You can mount the device on it, the grip of the Scan Bridge provides power to the Otter and it establishes a wifi network for transferring the scan data to a computer running the scan software. Alternatively you can scan with a cellphone to the mobile app.

What if i use the otter to scan the otter to make the otter to outotter the otter ?
I think you used that word more times than I did in the entire video 😆
You otter find out.

Are you going to tell us the ballpark price?
Looks like $950. Amazon has a 20% off deal as I type this

Pourquoi développer des logiciels uniquement sur système Microsoft & Apple?
Je n'ai pas vu de version logiciel Linux. Est-ce bien le cas?
Actually there is no Linux support, that’s right.
It says it can scan a car. Could you please scan a motorcycle and a car with it as a test of their claimm
Good idea! I’ll keep it in mind

Ok, that covers the unaffordable 1000 dollar scanner from otter….now, how about reviewing the much more affordable Ferret 3d for 299?
Lack of detail caused the mars copter Ingenuity to crash when it lost it's position.
🫡 minute of silence for the Marsian Rover
It's wired? Is it still 1980?
