    I have been severely iron deficient for years. Supplementing only makes me nauseated and constipated. The best way I have found to treat my fatigue, constant cold limbs, hair loss, and chest pain is to eat a meat based diet and focus on red meat.

    I had a ferritin level of 37 and it wasn’t flagged as low by my doctor; however, I’ve heard from other sources that anything below 80 can cause symptoms of deficiency such as hair loss, which is the reason I wanted it tested.

      You are right. Optimal hair needs 80 level. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise it is scientifically proving

      In my country, the normal FERRITIN levels range from 20 ug/L - 300 ug/L. That being said, there is a footnote saying that values less than 30-45 ug/L is associated with iron deficiency.
      I heard optimal levels should be at least 75-80.
      When i got my levels checked, i was at a 5 💀 i had no idea.
      I was on the supplement for 4 months and it went up to 90. So i stopped taking supplements and after a month, my levels dropped to 32. So i have to go back on iron supplements again 🤪

    I am curious about taking 5-10mg/day of iron supplement cos my multivitamin has 5mg in it. I know the RDI is 8mg and 5-10mg is under the daily maximum from NHS website, but it doesn’t really reference about long term. Would love a response from a phd if you see this. Thanks I’m advance 😊

  • @playerzero2236
    @playerzero2236 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I had all the symptoms of iron deficiency and later developed tomatophagia. I've been supplementing with slightly more iron than my daily requirements with vitamin C. I'm pretty sure this is fine.
    Note this is also after ruling out other deficiencies because I already take supplements for things like sodium and electrolytes in adequate amounts that would cause similar symptoms.
    It's not sufficient to assume that iron or a specific mineral is the culprit without further consideration because things like an electrolyte imbalance can have near identical symptoms. You also don't want to overcorrect the problem, and only consume quality, bioavailable forms of these vitamins and minerals as error here can lead to health problems later

    Been anemic on and off since I was a kid. I just wait for the pica then start my iron. I'm tired of having my blood drawn and wasting my doctors time so I handle it myself. However this is a very good message. Iron is pretty dangerous if you don't need it. Fascinates me how it's over the counter still.

      Listen... doctors use health MD just like you. I'd really recommend doing extensive study about holistic and natural remedies.
      This doctor is saying dont take iron bc you can hurt but, if you look at your blood work and then compare it to the functional medicine ranges it can help a lot. What's need to basically function isn't always the same as what's needed to feel good and healthy.

    Well, your body does a very good job IF you were to take TOO much iron! What does it do? Increase HEPCIDIN! Hepcidin in the master regulator that controls the absorption of iron in people who don't have hemochromatosis or other iron metabolism dysfunction. But, he is right though. Better to check ferritin to make sure you are indeed low. Shoot for a ferritin level of 100ng/mL. You can do a TIBC, but it can come back falsely high IF you have been taking iron. Then you will stop iron because you think you are high. So, check ferritin which is MORE accurate considering you are not sick or have underlying inflammatory diseases.
