I found out I’m not anemic, but I’m iron deficient. My hemoglobin is normal, but my ferritin is only at eight I start taking iron supplements, and I actually feel worse than I did before I’m more tired, more fatigued, and dizzy. I was expecting to feel better with more energy after takingiron supplements

It will take a while to take effect, so it is likely you get some of the side effects, before you get the benefit, but speak to your doctor if you’re concerned. Most side effects do settle in a few weeks.

@@DrSophieGP You're right about tea blocking iron. I was drinking iced tea from daylight till dark, over a gallon per day, and became anemic. I was also taking high dose zinc to lower my free copper level and inadvertently blocked iron. Then I started taking curcumin and quercetin, but later found out that they both block around 90% of iron absorption. I'm a big red meat eater, and didn't think I could become anemic, until my hair started falling out and I started researching the cause. It was hard to do, but I totally stopped drinking tea and started taking high dose heme supplements. So far it's reversing my problem and my hair stopped falling out. Thanks for the great videos.

Just found out I have parasites and low iron. It makes perfect sense why I feel tired and lethargic.

Thank you for your video. Do you have any insights about iron deficiency without anaemia? Similar presentation of symptoms. Interestingly, NICE guidelines (on iron deficiency anaemia) suggest a ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L is ‘iron deficiency’, yet ferritin levels as low as 10 micrograms/L are often categorized as ‘normal’ within GP lab ranges. I think more research is needed in this area as many suffer (from iron deficiency without anaemia) based on lab ranges without taking into consideration NICE guidelines, not to mention patient symptoms (hair loss, fatigue, palpitations, pica, insomnia etc)

www.rcpjournals.org/content/clinmedicine/21/2/107 This is an interesting article on the topic and I think you’re right, we need to be aware of iron deficiency without anaemia too.

Can lump in the throat sensation be caused by iron deficiency? I'm slightly iron deficiency.... I'm also highly deficient in vit d.... All my other minerals and vit levels are fine... But my throat is dying everyday
Some of my symptoms like chest pain and tingling which have vanished after I have taken d3 supplements... I'm worried for my throat... I sometimes have breathing issues... Doctors are forcing me to take anti depressants

I cannot give personal medical advice I’m afraid, so perhaps explain to your doctor your symptoms and concerns again. Iron deficiency has been linked to something called globus pharyngeus, where there is a sensation of a lump in the throat. Perhaps watch my video on depression to learn more about anti-depressants and alternative management options.

You can certainly get side effects from an iron infusion, but they normally settle in a few days. Some good advice here:my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/14571-intravenous-iron-supplementation and may be worth checking in with your clinical team.
