I've been recently diagnosed with iron deficiency after ignoring the symptoms for so long, i used to feel like i was dying, things i used to enjoy became so hard to do.. i kept thinking that it was just normal fatigue but it never went away no matter how much i slept or how many vitamins i took.. it got serious and i started fainting and falling all out the sudden in public, after that i realized that there must be something wrong and that its not just a normal fatigue.. i decided to see a doctor and now im following a treatment, i tried to eat more and never forget to take my medication but i still always feel tired even if i do a really simple thing that doesn't require a lot of effort, it feels like slowly dying.. it's so hard and i hope it gets easier for every person who is experiencing it, stay strong and keep nourishing your body ❤

Same here. The smallest tasks drain me…I told my friend it feels like I’m dying slowly. Just saw a hematologist yesterday who’s going to try giving me iron through IV because I’m not absorbing it through pills. When she said it’ll take a 5-6 weeks to come in I got really sad just knowing I had to feel like that much longer. Maybe you can reach out to a hematologist to try the same thing.
Prayers for you and anyone dealing with this. 🙏🏾

Your advice really worked for me. I'm a female in my early 40s and I've had low iron my whole life. I never did anything about it until about the last couple of years. My iron went up slightly. After your video, I started taking my two non-heme iron supplements in the morning and before I started eating for the day (I only start eating at lunch time). I also continued to take each iron pill with vitamin C and B12 (which I was doing before). After about 6 months, my Ferritin level went from 21 to 215!

@@StronglifePhysiotherapy No difference in how I feel, surprisingly. I was motivated to get my iron within normal range because I was diagnosed with PVC (arrhythmia) and my low iron was a potential cause. I will test again in Sept to determine if that made a difference. Hopefully no more PVC.

I just got lab results and my iron level is 45 so still within “normal” range but my ferritin is 4. I checked last years labs and it was at level 2!! It makes me upset that my doctor never advised me on this and I have been suffering extreme fatigue and hair loss for a long time now. I hope this is the main cause and hope to be able to fix it thanks to videos like these. We have to advocate and treat ourselves bc many doctors sadly aren’t :((

Great video! So few people know how many things block iron. So many enriched foods are useless (I'm looking at you breakfast cereal) because other foods block the added iron. Took me two years of religious supplementing to get my ferritin up from 28 to 80 (as a runner I'm aiming for 100!). My doctor warned me that it can take along time and not to stop taking the supplements or be discouraged. I also went on birth control to reduce my periods as much as possible - since women lose so my iron every month.

Thank you for sharing! Yes a lot of people get the recommendation to take iron but get none of the information to actually be able to absorb it. Sounds like you've come a long way, great work! I also read studies that it's better to take Iron every other day, instead of every day. The studies showed that the people who took Iron every day had higher levels of Hepsidin (Not sure if spelt correctly??) than those who took their Iron every other day. I have very low Iron levels due to heavy, prolonged periods and want to start taking my new (Non Heme, Iron Bisglycinate....only 14 mgs per tablet as well!) Iron every day to get it into my body quickly but then I read about taking it every other day for better absorption, so trying that.
I am taking two of the tablets a day, so will be having 28mgs which I know is still too low, but I didn't want to try anything much higher because I don't like the idea of having an upset stomach or being sick!!! I'm also taking it with lemon water for the vitamin C.

I totally wasted my second trimester “nesting energy” by not having ANY energy, and didn’t know it was fixable. I took beef liver capsules 3x a day and finally worked up to the max of 4x/day. Apparently it wasn’t working, which surprised me since my sister had an incredible CBC panel throughout her pregnancy and postpartum, and that’s what she took. Same brand and all.

Blood test results said my ferritin level was 6,5. I went to the doctor. He prescribed iron, not pills, but bottles. I had to take one bottle a day for 20 days and after that one every other day. I also had some anemia, but not very important. After taking all that, my ferritin level is 4,5. 😮 How can this be possible? My body seems not to be absorbing iron. Either it is because of the gastric sleeve I had done (but that was 12 years ago) or I am sooo worried until they find the CAUSE. I might get a colonoscopy and stomach endoscopy done to check if there is something wrong, even though the doctor doubts it. I have an appointment with another doctor in 5 days. See what he says. I am really worried. THE CAUSE is what worries me.

    • @beewest5704

Yes they will have to check if you are having small bleeds somewhere or if you have a genetic condition making it difficult for your body to absorb iron. It can take up to 6 months for your iron levels to get to normal & even longer for your iron stores. My levels were 6.5 three months ago. After 2 units of blood, 3 months if sucromal iron tablets, vit C & folic acid my iron level is 13. Now working on replenishing my iron stores. I still have a bleeding condition that may hamper my progress but so far so good.

That’s that tricky part with synthetic iron supplements. When you take them with food, it’s generally not absorbed as well because many foods block synthetic iron absorption. It can be hard on the stomach. You'll still be getting some iron most likely but it depends on if you are also eating foods that block iron absorption. This isn't a problem when you take heme based iron. It doesn't upset the stomach and doesn't have issues with absorption being blocked by other foods. Organ meat supplements (like liver) are what I recommend.

Phytates, phytic acid, calcium and others nutrients all block iron. Plant foods are generally very ineffective sources of dietary iron. Heme iron, or animal sources of iron are much more easily absorbed.
