    This HBX 12891 DUNE THUNDER 1/12 scale electric desert truck / buggy was sent to me by rcmoment.com
    Thank you very much!
    In this video:
    The HBX 12891 DUNE THUNDER 4WD sand buggy handles very well with its oil filled shocks. But it's just not fast enough for my liking. So I did what I always do in such situations: brushless conversion! It may be the first brushless 12891 in the world. The messy wiring will be tidied up in the next part. And the Arduino DIY Open Source receiver will be mounted, using a 3D printed mount, which will be designed in Autodesk Fusion 360.
    Part 2 now available: • HBX 12891 DUNE THUNDER...

    The Haiboxing 12891 DUNE THUNDER has a very nice suspension with oil filled shocks. Unfortunately it's a bit slow. So in this video I will show you, how to do a brushless conversion. If you like this video, like, subscribe and turn on notifications, so you will not miss the upcoming part 2 of this video. See you!

      TheDIYGuy999 I see there’s a racerstar 2440 motor with 6080kv, do you think the batteries will be okay getting the faster motor? Is there a reason you went with the 4600?

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they will not. Also, the 6080kV motor does have less torque. So go for the 4600kV version.

      TheDIYGuy999 follow up! Does this ESC allow for a higher voltage? Say an 11.1v battery source? Or will it burn up? I have a similar car. It’s the hbx 12812 or the redact KT12. All the same chassis.

      😂, netx time I should use 4k. What is your 4k camera? The speed is reasonable, but still not crazy fast.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheDIYGuy999 Yeah the speed and acceleration looks very good. Fast but still controllable. I just use my phone for 4K :-) I only use it for small and simple one-takes. In edited videos I use 1080 60 fps.

      No problem. I did not buy it, it was sent to me by rcmoment.com for review. I have to say, I prefer this version with its 4 wheel independent suspension. You can find a discount coupon in the description.

    Super Video. Ich brauche mal deine Hilfe,unzwar wollte ich wissen ob dein ESC das mit macht und ob es doll heiß/warm wird? Ich habe die gleiche Kombi verbaut und mein ESC wird warm. Ist das normal? Wäre super wenn du mir helfen könntest :-)

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Danke. Ein bisschen warm wird er schon, das ist normal. Der Motor wird auch warm, alles funktioniert aber wie es soll.

    • @lurejunkys2901
      @lurejunkys2901 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Super danke für die Antwort :-) Ich war mit halt unsicher ob das normal ist. Weil man sagt ja eigentlich das der Motor nicht mehr Ampere zieher darf als das ESC gibt? Stimmt das so? Weil den 2440 Motor gibts ja mit 6080 Kv und der zieht ja 47 Ampere. Das macht doch das 35 A ESC nicht lange mit oder?

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, if you want it faster, you have to use a brushless motor / ESC. A brushless motor has more power in the same can size.

    Nice en usefull video 😄
    I,m a newbie to the RC world Just ordert de car a week ago and yesterday i realised i need to have the 2440 and the 35A esc to 😈 zo ordert that yesterday also ordert the Servo don,t know why but you also put IT in so i think you had your reasons.
    So no i,m thinking what spareparts would be usefull
    Because when something breaks IT takes 2-4 weeks to get it Here
    (Netherlands)

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The car comes ready to run, but with brushed motor, so it's not the fastest. If you want to do a brushless conversion, you also need a 2.4GHz transmitter and receiver.
      I have not ordered any spare parts so far. Everything is still in one piece. You can find the spare parts list here: www.banggood.com/search/hbx-12891.html?p=NZ29024828314201605E
      The dogbones, hubs, differentials and gears could make sense to have on stock.

    • @motonexus6316
      @motonexus6316 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info! Why does the original receiver/transmitter doesn't work with the brushless??
      Maby because the transmitter is in the esc of the brushed motor?
      Does IT matters howmany channels? Just a noob here 😁 en any advise for a easy installing transmitter receiver whit the Wright functions?

      As I said: this buggy handles very well with its oil filled shocks and it's 4WD. So a stability control system is not even required. But I may try it anyway. BTW: part 2 will be available in a couple of minutes!

      TheDIYGuy999 you have another cars (jlb, a959) which one is the best in your opinion?

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In general I prefer bigger cars, 1/12 scale upwards. They just handle better and can be used for trail runs. But they are more expensive to maintain. The JLB for example is great fun to drive but it just eats gears. I hope that this issue was solved with the last modifcation (see video)

    • @butahuruf
      @butahuruf 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheDIYGuy999 I like the architecture of this car. The balance is perfect I think. The motor and most weights (batteries) are well balanced. I am wondering if it is possible how to create the solution for 1 battery instead of 2. Ideally to put the most weights (batteries) so lowest possible to the ground (centre of gravity). Maybe using 3d print to put the battery under the car?

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using 1 big battery instead of 2 18650 cells is pretty much impossible in this car, because you would destroy the good balance, if you mount it on the top of the chassis. And below the chassis is no room left. The stock 18650 cells are working fine with the 35A Racerstar brushless ESC. You can also buy high discharge 18650 cells, which are suitable for this car. The link is in the description. And yes, I will use a 3D printed part in episode 2 of this video. Stay tuned.
