This is one of the best and most durable trucks of this class and price range I've tested in a while. Great speed, full ball bearings, oil filled shocks and super durability makes this one of my favorites. Definitely a good buy and parts are available.

I don't know why, but I came to your channel looking for drone reviews, and I ended up watching RC Truck reviews, simply because your channel is that good. You have helped me so much, I decided on a drone that I will be happy with right out of the box. Thanks to your videos, I was able to pick the right drone (for me), the first time.

Anyone know where to buy extra batteries for this one, tried a few different ones from amazon and they make it turn off when I crank the throttle.??
I can tell by sound and motion, batteries are in series running. didn't get a great look at motor but the 390's are pretty good for power/size/weight. lot of "hype" about brushless motors, potential for more efficient and more power BUT, there's also a limit how much power can actually be put into the wheels on dirt before it's overkill and squirrely, even with 4WD. the "fastest" car isn't always the quickest getting around a track, for dirt it looks to be set up pretty well as gotten overall (other than their choice of springs on it).
a criticism: I don't like that they did different inner/outer diameter rims/tires, they'd all have to be changed out to be able to choose/swap different and softer, hopefully the hub connection is standard to allow doing it. nice aggressive tread pattern but the tires do have the appearance of being a vinyl plastic type (darnit). I'd rather see 1/10 scale 4WD fronts (tires/rims) on all 4 corners and soft rubber, the flex can be changed at whim with different foam inserts is kinda "next level" but HUGE improvement to what it is! and yeah, we DO like seeing a little bit of tire swell at full speed/throttle, they grow some legs to run faster and it's a little bit of "free suspension" for absorbing bumps.
I do like the VW Baja+Jeep hybrid looking body, fully ball bearing'd, oil filled shocks (which yes should be a little softer setup!). suggestion: send them (manufacturer) your video reviewing and copy of these notes, if they pay attention they'll produce a real little winner! as it sits it's half way between RTR "toy class" and "hobby class" leaning more towards the latter, this simple stuff will make it much more desirable, even if the price goes up 20 bucks.

Those are 3.7v Li-On. This buggy is wired in series and make 7.4v. 2s means 2 cells in series. with LiPo each cell is 3.7v as well so a 2S Li-Po is also 7.4v. It's only a 390 brushed motor so not going to be as fast as a 540. There's no way to get a 3s battery in there because it only holds 2 cells. brushless motor looks like the only thing you can upgrade.
Hey Dustin. Great review as usual! I assume the HBX 12889 THRUSTER identical except rear spare instead of spoiler. Just not getting into RC buggies (under $100) Drone burn out. The HBX seems to have a lot of cool features. Nothing high tech for me - just some short fun time when I have the time (lol)

So you get 3.7V * 2 (7.4V), but mah remains the same (1500mah).
that's what I thought too. these trucks need quite a bit of torque since the motor as you can see is thick meaning that there are big diameter gears so series connection makes sense. 1500mAh will stay the same.

This car draws my attention a lot! Well, in my ignorance, I think that by having a 390-380 motor it will consume less energy than a 540 like the one in the 1/12 wl toys .... can a better quality variator and servo be fitted? How many upgrade options (are there)? i like this car! or the dune thunder 12891 from hbx (hailboxing) ... I think the wl toys 10428 ... 1/12 (wears the differential gears very quickly, and consumes the stock battery very quickly, that's why based on that, a jjrc q39 or a hbx 12891 is more efficient!
well with 16 mph! is more than enough for me! over 21 mph ... guess the gears and pinion will wear out more quickly!

I've converted mine to a brushless and it goes 40mph. The plastic gears and driveshafts are actually quite robust.

Hi ! I bought the HBX 12891 after I saw your review (great RC Car reviews by the way:) ) Now I have one of the batteries that is dead and need to replace it. Do you recommend a battery upgrade model ? the batteries seem to be 18650 3.7v 1500 mAh but I am not sure what to buy as a replacement/upgrade. I tried 18650 Li-Ion 3.7v 3400 mAh I bought on Aliexpress but they didn't work (the engine cuts off after a few seconds) . Any ideas ? Thanks !!
Interesting. Maybe the amperage output of the battery is too high or not high enough for the truck ESC. I'd try getting some in pairs and trying different mAh and amperage ratings.

Not sure. If you know what amperage capabilities the batteries you already tried are, I'd go in the opposite direction.
Man please, can you help me? i woud like to buy one rc car for jumping in skate park and in dirt park but I do not want to give a lot of money? Will this car be a good choice or can you give me something else that will be better !!! Tnx

i am looking for a little rugged truck to teach my 5 year old on but this says over 14 years? would it be ok for him supervised to learn on?
+Howard Rein This would be fine under supervision Howard. It's not so powerful as to really hurt someone but I would really teach him good throttle control before he plays on his own unsupervised. I'd really like to see if he could break this...It's really tuff!
Dustin Dunnill thanks for reply i will get this. just before i do, i also saw the similar HBX 12889 Thruster 1:12 RC Off-road Truck - RTR which seems to have 2 alternative speeds so i can show it down for him. i guess you haven't tested that one but if it was similar ruggedness it could be better? what's your opinion?

Does anybody know where to buy spare batteries?
this are standard 18650 Li/Ion batteries, you can get them in any form or colour ^^ they get used for e-cigs - RC models... if you dont need a big ampere workload, you can get 5000mAh no problem....
you only need to check what you get, every different model of this batteries is for a different job or use. e-cigs can draw to 40amps at once, and they are expensive... check the batteries for different models

Still think my WLTOYS ACROSS 4X4 is way better value for the money
+The Rc Hunter I'd honestly have to say at a few dollars difference. This one has much more to offer. Full bearings, oil filled shocks, how quick nimble and durable it is out of the box all out do the ACROSS. IMHO I'd rather own the HBX. Now if the Across came with those options out of the box.... It would be a bit more difficult to choose.
My Across which i bought a couple of weeks ago is the V2 now under the chassis is metal plated....full bearings and oil filled shocks... did a unboxing and test run..does look different underneath from yours .
