    This HBX 12891 DUNE THUNDER 1/12 scale electric desert truck / buggy was sent to me by rcmoment.com
    Thank you very much!
    In this video:
    The HBX 12891 DUNE THUNDER 4WD sand buggy handles very well with its oil filled shocks. But it's just not fast enough for my liking. So I did what I always do in such situations: brushless conversion!
    It may be the first brushless 12891 in the world. The messy wiring is tidied up in the this part of the video. And the Arduino DIY Open Source receiver is mounted, using a 3D printed mount, which will is designed in Autodesk Fusion 360.
    We also have to address some ESC cutout problems… But finally it works just fine!

      Do you know where to get the metal gears by chance? I've looked everywhere but no luck finding an equivalent.

      I think there are no metal gears available. But as I said, I never had any issue so far. And I have bashed it a lot. This thing is very robust.

    Hi mate I finally will be getting your reciever mount printed, BTW have you come up for a way of fitting a small 3s pack? I have a different body so fit mine in the roll cage.
    Have a look at my setup on my channel if you like. Very modified drivetrain :) if I make more videos I will mention you for the reciever mou t and 18650 adapters.

    • @TheDIYGuy999

      Hi
      No, I think the best solution is to use a battery strap. Be careful with 3S, my motor already gets toasty on 2S... Also make sure, that your "small" 3S pack is able to supply the required current. If overloaded, it will expand. I had a look at your video, runs good!

      @@TheDIYGuy999 my mptor does not even get warm, must have the perfect gearing. Although yesterday I had to change the diff gears as they got worn after my testing period and now was ready to put it all together as should be. I noticed now they changed the gears, bevel used to be 13 and is now 11, big gear on diff was 38 but now 32, I be out today to see if I need to put a smaller pinion on..
      Do you have the 16 motor pinion on? I do as recomended by hbx and Redcat to use with this motor.

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm using the stock pinion. It works without issues and it is fast. But I still think 3S would be too much.

    I've just finished my upgrade with the parts you've provided. I am having the same issue with it cutting out. What did you do to the receiver? I am using a Radiolink RC4GS 2.4G 4CH RC Transmitter and Receiver R6FG Gyro Radio Remote Controller system.

    • @TheDIYGuy999

      Use better "high discharge" 18650 batteries, which are able to supply the needed current.
      Adding a filter capacitor for thee receiver could be helpful as well: www.banggood.com/1000UF-Filter-Capacitor-For-Flight-Controller-Receiver-VTX-RC-Drone-Multirotor-Spare-Part-p-1284837.html?p=NZ29024828314201605E

      Of course. I mostly use my own Arduino remote. It's just better than most cheap 2.4GHz systems, because there is no dead zone around the steering center position. I think I already made around 20 pcs. of this receiver.

    5:12 low voltage setting
    You are setting low voltage at 2.8V discharche cutout normaly is 2.5V for 1 batterie bit you are using 2 in series so IT should be 5V cutout otherwise your going tot damage the batteries i think! Correct me if i,m wrong! Still havend got the car here but exepting IT next week

      The small motor pinion? The one in my car is steel and can't really fail I think. As I said in this video: I strongly recommend to improve the gearbox sealing, If you want to drive it on fine gravel or sand.

    I bought the very same batteries for my 12825, and my top speed dropped with 8kmh, Samsung 25r gave same as original blue ones..
    My car is 100% stock and maybe can't handle the 32a constant amp with 40 amp pulse?
    What are your thoughts?

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My batteries of this type are faster than the original ones. Are they fully charged to 4.2V? Are you using my 3D printed adapters? The car is certainly not the issue, but I never tried these batteries in stock condition.

    • @TheDIYGuy999
      @TheDIYGuy999  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Magnets do not work for high current applications, because their internal resistance is too high. I believe that's why your voltage drops below the level of your original batteries.
