- As 2022 nears, we do a roundup of the best PPVs of the 2021. PPVs like the Toyota Fortuner, the Mitsubishi Montero, the Nissan Terra, the Ford Everest and the Isuzu Mu-X are some of the most popular vehicle types in the Philippines. We love 7 seater diesel SUVs here. In this video we'll compare them in different categories such as best value for money, best ride quality, best NVH levels, best interior etc. And then we'll select an overall winner.
PPVs are short for Pick up Platform Vehicle. They're called pick up platform vehicles because they share platforms with pick ups. For example the Fortuner shares the same platform with the Hilux, the Montero shares the same platform with the Strada, the Terra shares the same platform with the Navara, the Everest shares the same platform with the Ranger and the Mu-X shares the same platform with the Dmax.
Obviously these are my picks and are based on my personal qualifications. Type down in the comments below which ones you think should win

For a family of 7. MU-X is a dream as its 3rd row are fully functional for long drives, hope that next release they will include 360 cam making it the most complete Midsize SUV in the market.
I think it would be great to add to the tech and safety list that since 2015, only the Ford Everest offers a lane keeping system that actually steers you back into your lane. The others only offer lane departure warning in 2021. I believe the Toyota Fortuner has something similar, but not to the same extent where it moves the steering wheel (yaw assist where it brakes individual wheels to move you back).

Agree with your picks cause i recently purchase new nissan terra vl and adptive cruise control is really lacking especially when i drive from tuguegarao to manila 11hrs of solo driving and cruise control really help me to lessen my right leg fatigue much more if its adaptive but i will still recommed nissan Terra vl 4x2 cause of very confortable and the road in our place is not good and 360 around view is very very helpful as a newbie suv driver it will prevent you to encounter sabit and gasgas like my previous sedan and wirless apply car play makes your car clean and luxurious car no cables are needed and exterior is very good looking

My picks for this year would be MU-X and Terra. But with the all-new Everest right around the corner, I predict there will be a huge upset in the PPV category next year. The recently released Ranger sets the bar really high for its class, and I'm sure the Everest will do the same.

Terra wins for me, a 360 camera is a much better feature to have than adaptive cruise

One category that can only be measured long term but is also important in categorizing vehicles in general is durability (engine, transmission, body frame, features, etc).
Historically speaking, which among the PPVs are most durable?
Thank you, mark javier. :) Generally i try to avoid the issue of reliability because it really is difficult to measure on newer vehicles. Recalls happen even for supposedly reliable brands. For example there was a recall on the earlier pre facelift gasoline fortuner (2017-2018) because of fuel pump issues. There was also an issue on the steering bushings of earlier terras which, I would assume, has already been addressed. How do you measure the reliability of the mux which was just released a couple of months ago? There's no data yet for that. I noticed that in your reasons in choosing Mu-X as best PPV of 2021, specifically on 3rd row and cargo space, Ford Everest was not mentioned in your comparison...only Terra, Fortuner and Montero. Does this mean, Ford Everest is the best in 3rd row and cargo space? Thank you.
Yes the Everest is the most spacious. I really do prefer the adaptive cruise of the Mu-X though

It depends on what youll be delivering. Pero i think 350nm of torque should be more than enough for most types of cargo
