I like how MGS3 and The Boss basically serve as a way to turn everything you know about the franchise around. Suddenly you're not sure of who the good guys are. And then the story of Big Boss continues and it is revealed how the Patriots came to be and why Big Boss tried to rebel against them. By the ending of MGS4 you realize that perhaps you've been playing as a pawn of the "bad" guys all along, that the real heroes were Big Boss and Ocelot. Man... I'll miss MGS, one of the greatest pieces of art, videogames or not, that man has seen. I seriously hope Kojima, now with full creative freedom, manages to create something as great if not better with Death Stranding.

17:38 Here's something that was thankfully removed from the game. In-game voice files of The Boss heavily imply that that scene was to include an aiming mechanic, and you could mess up the killshot as she would tell you to "do it right this time".

Good timing. Just started playing the Legacy collection that I've had sitting on my shelf for over a year. Just finished this game up. Definitely the best playing game in the series so far and I enjoyed it much more than 2. The Boss was a highlight of the game. On to MG4!

I like how you just sort of barely acknowledge the retroactive stuff MGS4 did with The Boss and stuck to her character and motivations from MGS3. Although an Uncharted 3-style exploration of the narrative jank in the MGS4 villains would be an interesting round-out to this Metal Gear Solid D.I. marathon.

Amazing how older Naked Snake/Big Boss ended up so similar to the Boss.
Guess the Boss was right after all: "One must die and one must live. No victory, no defeat. The survivor will carry on the fight. It is our destiny... The one who survives will inherit the title of Boss. And the one who inherits the title of Boss will face an existence of endless battle."

Great video. I would love one on Hot Coldman from _Peace Walker._ He's interesting since he fully believes no one has the stomach to use nukes even though two people in the MGS universe has. Volgin nuked Sokolov's research facility for kicks and the Boss nuked Grozni Grad under orders. Coldman's so ruthless but his naive belief that all humans are naturally too weak-willed to kill themselves baffles me. No wonder Zadornov manipulated him so easily.

the first time I played MGS3 or MG Origins to be exact.... back in 2004/2005 right when I got to the final part where you beat The Boss and she hands you her Patriot and tells you to kill her.... I stood there for a good 5 minutes.... I didn't even press R1 at all or the fire button. I just stood there as the music played on and the meadow grass and flowers swayed. I was thinking maybe if I don't shoot her, she could be saved. But as she said "There can only be on Boss"
Because of the US Government using Jack (Big Boss) and forcing him to kill his best friend in existence...... He would slowly become the villian as time progressed. I am guessing that no-one really understood the Boss's mission at all. They all tried to copy it and fullfill it.... but most of them failed.
In reality the Boss wanted a world of peace, where people wouldn't have to kill eachother and where love can exist.
The Boss truly was the hero of Metal Gear period.

Even though this video is a few years old, it's a good one! The Boss is the one Metal Gear character that I have the most curious about. It's a pity that Hideo Kojima had a falling out with Konami because he had an interest in making a game centered around The Boss. It would have answered a lot of questions. What is her real name? Where is she from? Who trained her to be the bad ass that she was in MGS3? How did she, or better yet, they come up with the alias "The Boss" and why?. So many unanswered questions. This video gets a huge thumbs up!!

If you had been in my place back then... maybe you wouldn't have made the same mistakes that I did. Ever since the day I killed The Boss... With my own hands... I... Was already dead. Boss... You were right. It's not about changing the world. It's about doing our best to leave the world... the way it is. It's about respecting the will of others... And believing in your own. Isn't that... What you fought for? At last... I understand the meaning behind what you did.- Big Boss's last words.

I like how pretty much everyone connected to the field of operation for Snake Eater is a double agent. Even though The Boss had respectable and unshakable loyalty, I can't help but to think that her faith was misplaced. All her work is doing is promote war profiteering through the Philosophers. It's easy to see how anyone else would grow to reject the ludicrous orders handed to them after being treated like a disposable handkerchief for decades.
