I can only imagine that the scientists or whatever that told him he was the inferior clone were thinking "Man this is going to be the best prank ever" up until a certain point.
In fact, having recessive genes active actually could been seen as superior, or at least more unique, as they are the rarer genes that are less likely to appear in offspring, as they tend to be "dominated" by the dominant genes: hence why blonde hair is rarer than brown, blue eyes rarer than brown, etc..
Believe it or not, this is explained or was explained at one point by character designer Shinkawa. Basically, Liquid HAD brown hair, but constant exposure to strong sunlight bleached it (don't even ask me how that works, also can't recall if it happened in Africa or Iraq). Likewise, Solid originally had blond hair but he chose to dye it for unknown reasons. I don't whether this information is still valid or not given MGS5.

It was probably a good thing Sons of Liberty introduced the concept of The Patriots systematically rewriting and controlling the flow of information, as it basically allowed Kojima to retcon this inaccuracy as an example of their manipulations.
The saddest thing about the story of this game is the fact that Snake never truly broke away. The words Big Boss spoke to him in Zanzibar were true and there was nothing either brother could do to change it as long as they lived. MGS4 actually made Ocelot and Liquid much more layered and nuanced/complex compared to their MGS1 shallow (albeit fun) counterparts. I agree that his character most ties into the theme of a game in mgs1 and he is at his most fun there, but he's 1 dimensional compared to how he is in mgs4. Ocelot even more so for having the foresight of knowing how Liquid would handle things (probably because he knew him since he was a child as MGSV pointed out) and counting on it to achieve what Big Boss couldn't. In a way, both Liquid (his son) and Ocelot (The Boss' son) managed to surpass Big Boss. But neither did in an effort to prove themselves like Liquid is trying so hard to in mgs1. They did it because of the world's stakes being so high and their respect for Big Boss.
The whole dominant/recessive gene twist at the end always kind of confused me. If Liquid was really the superior clone and had the dominant genes, then why would he have naturally blonde hair? Blonde hair is the most well-known example of a recessive gene, with dark hair being a dominant gene. So when first playing MGS1 it made sense to me that recessive Liquid was blonde and dominant Solid was brunette. So when the twist flipped their positions it always struck me as weird since the idea of Liquid having recessive genes was made visible with his physical appearance. No explanation was ever given for how Liquid has this recessive trait while somehow also having the dominant genes. Maybe Kojima wasn't thinking about it, or at the time he didn't quite understand how genes worked, but he had put so much research into other topics of this game and his others it's strange how he'd flub something like that.
Japanese media is full of "Half-Japanese" characters who are naturally blonde haired and blue-eyed. I think the entire country of Japan has the dominance/recessiveness of hair and eye color backwards.
liveFinalFantasy If I recall correctly Solid himself had blonde hair naturally since he was the recessive clone. Liquids hair was bleached blonde from the sun from his time in the middle east.
That's a myth. The amount of sunlight to bleach Liquid's hair would've murdered his skin if he was exposing himself to the sun like that. Plus, Shadow Moses was years after his time in the Middle East, so new hair would've grown out by then. People only thought Solid had blonde hair from the monochromatic lighting for the briefing scene in MGS1 (and he didn't dye his hair at the end, he cut it), and because concept art of MGS2 had a blonde Pliskin (which was a disguise). thesnakesoup.org/myth-articles/myth-snake-dyes-his-hair/
they both have long blonde hair. Snake cuts and dyes his at the beginning of the game to avoid being confused for liquid. (It was in the debriefing intro with the colonel, I believe.)
I took it as liquid and snake were created using the dominant and recessive genes respectively, BUT only when it came to the so called soldier genes. Those were the genes that was identified as making Big Boss a great soldier and it's those genes liquid is talking about. Not ALL of his and Solids genes. Which explains why liquid is naturally blond and snake a brunette. For the biological engineers who set up the octoplets gene pool, hair colour wasn't something considered making a difference in creating a great soldier. It would also explain the problem of some dominant genes traits, such as dwarfism. They left those specific genes to be recessive in both liquid and snake.
Honestly, I like how Liquid was implemented in Metal Gear Solid 2. That his grudge still persists until after his own death. And it's just hilarious that Kojima's plan for the series' finale was just watching as Liquid posses Ocelot for good, steals the Metal Gear and goes full madness with it; I unironically like how it ends showing how Liquid will forever be stuck in his quest for power and superiority and it kiiinda feels like it adds a bit to his character, it's also cool seeing how each of the 3 brothers chooses to fight the Patriots. I legit feel bitter, angry and sad at how disrespectful Metal Gear Solid 4 is to Liquid (and Solidus too...also Snake now that I think about it) It just feels like such a tease to make Ocelot get the spotlight because he's the fan favorite...which, yeah, he is also my favorite, but damn, talk about a middle finger to a character. As much as I love that last battle between Liquid Ocelot and Snake, it just feels so disingenuous now that I know that it's just Ocelot pretending. Ocelot is great, but he is way more significant to Big Boss's story than he is to Snake's and to have him fight in such an epic manner just feels unearned. It could've been. A simple change to something like "their mind is now fused as one" or "Ocelot had convinced Liquid to follow his plan in order to show that he was the best. Beating the Patriots, something that not his father nor his brothers could accomplish" or something like that would've made it more satisfying in my opinion...instead Ocelot just cuts off his arm offscreen and replaces it with another...why didn't he do that before Metal Gear Solid 2? Iunno.
I don't think MGS4 is Ocelot pretending. He legitimately believes he's Liquid. I think the whole "Liquid is the final boss of the series" thing is a poor choice, so in a way I kinda like that they walked back on it after 2, since that's one of my least favorite aspects of MGS2's story, but at the same time, you don't really get the satisfaction of Ocelot himself being the villain. He's physically Ocelot, but believes he's Liquid, but in the end he's really neither.
@@HyperBitHero Yeah. Ideally Liquid shouldn't be the final boss, I'd take facing a bunch of AIs or something new, or really just Ocelot; but if the whole game builds up to a fight with Liquid it just feels underwhelming that it isn't. Also, just as you said "people are more than just their genes, they're ideals". Isn't it kind of ironic how despite being the only character to whom this mindset doesn't apply, Liquid literally had someone emulate his personality and ideals?
Yup totally agree with ya it’s one of the biggest reasons I didn’t like MGS4 at all they did liquid snake wrong throw him out before his own final trilogy fight conflict with his twin I can’t believe how much I hated Kojima for that after waiting since 2002 to 2008 for that crap GTFO And the the phantom ruse and I said that’s it iam done with this man way of story.
It ends up being hard not to when the character is blatantly left hanging as a thread more so than any other part of the game. As far as Phantom Pain is concerned, Liquid was last seen as a kid hijacking a bipedal war machine with Psycho Mantis away from Mother Base. You can't *not* ignore something that glaringly unresolved.
V339 it was meant to be resolved actually, in a removed mission, diamonds dogs were supposed to take back (or destroy?) sahelantropus and liquid would be saved by psycho mabtis
This video actually opened my eyes, I never looked at Mgs the way you told it and now knowing the message it presented, I can apply it to my life and work to be better
"It was filled with... *the joy* of battle." Ffff... Kojima! Kooojiiimmmaaaaaaaa! Man. When people try to say he's a bit of a hack or something, it's stuff like this that I point to in rebuttal. He's so consistent and invested in his work that even a spin-off with barely any of his involvement (MGR) is still full of his essence. He has plenty of flaws and has made plenty of mistakes, of course, but there's just so much about him (and those who work with him) that is genuinely likable and admirable. When I hear the phrase "dream job" all I can think about is a permanent residence at Koji Pro. Even if all I did was sit in a corner and compose personal theme songs for Kojima to listen to on his iPod as he struts the halls, it would be the best possible future. :D
I can see a bit of Dio in Liquid Snake both in design and in their obsession with an inferiority complex caused by circumstances which they had no control over, Dio being born into poverty and raised by an abusive father while Liquid was just piled together from the recessive genes of Big Boss. Both are angry and vengeful for the perceived injustices done onto them, shackled by the past and seemingly always reacting to it. Just an interesting tidbit
Blonde hair and blue eyes are recessive traits. Whereas dark hair and brown eyes are dominant. Liquid clearly inherited the "inferior" genes but that's not the same as inferior by ability. What makes it confusing is Snake appears to be blonde in the briefing videos.
The one real villain in the Metal Gear Solid saga, and one that deserved to be Snake's foil for the remaining future. It's a shame he was actually always dead after the original Solid game.
hyperbithero my dude a fifteen minute video about my mans liquid snake is the greatest gift you could've ever given me on this blessed sunday thank you so much
Y’know what’s odd though? Liquid knew from his time pretending to be Miller that Snake was being used as a carrier for Fox Die. Fully intent on killing him. Yet despite that intel, he deliberately exposes himself to Snake. He would’ve at least known about as much about foxdie as Snake did up until the point he dropped the act. I don’t know if he just forgot, or if he just didn’t care, but he pretty much already lost it all when he made direct contact with him. Whether Snake won or lost, Liquid was good as dead. For all his greatness, he didn’t make very safe decisions. Almost like he had a death wish himself.
As is explained towards the end of the video, Liquid assumed FOXDIE wasn't designed to kill Solid (also applying to Liquid.) He didn't know what Naomi did.
@@LordEmperorBoss No. He certainly wasn't the brightest. ...why in the hell was he wearing sunglasses in a codec call where you can't see the other person? 🤦
Given with the other things in the saga Liquid wasn't even aloud to have his own life but Solid more so was. But I guess that is the great mystery of the series was to see more so how Solid lived his life from childhood to MGS4. We know a bit of liquid in that his handlers mentally tortured him about his birth till his death.
Would love it if one day, Liquid Snake infiltrates one of David Hayter's interview conferences with Sun Glasses as a fan and starts yelling, "BROTHER!!!! ITS NOT YET SNAKE, ITS NOT OVER YET!". Then moments after, "Did you like the sunglasses?".
I wish we could get a couple games where we could play through a story as Liquid and Solidus. Actually a game about Les Enfants Terribles in general would be pretty cool. Even with all we got, it’s not really touched upon in detail.
Strange that we should be defined by a difference of a few numbers, a few centimetres of bone growth on your face decide if you’re beautiful or ugly and shunned; a small range of Iq numbers decide if your a genius or helpless.
Liquid got the soldier genes so he didn't care about killing but solid had the weak genes that made him care and have compassion for others. The way big boss saved ocelot multiple times cuz he was still young. If it was liquid he woulda killed ocelot not caring if he was young
Liquid’s so-called misunderstanding of genes is far less annoying than the endless YT comments about it. Especially in a game where a floating man in bondage gear throws chairs at you with his mind. Great video lad
This... this game was too far ahead of its time. A true video game masterpiece, and in my honest opinion in terms of plot and story? The greatest of all time.
I did consider that as a joke, but Bit's been posting screenshots from the rest of the series on Twitter and I feel like he'd probably have discussed Liquid's legacy if he wasn't already planning to cover it in an Ocelot video.

(It was in the debriefing intro with the colonel, I believe.)
liveFinalFantasy Metal Gear Solid isn't based in reality. If it says the sun bleached his hair then the sun bleached his hair.
That track always gives me chills every time I listen to it, so good
I took it as liquid and snake were created using the dominant and recessive genes respectively, BUT only when it came to the so called soldier genes.
Psydrre well explained, this clears up a lot for me.
Yup totally agree with ya it’s one of the biggest reasons I didn’t like MGS4 at all they did liquid snake wrong throw him out before his own final trilogy fight conflict with his twin
I can’t believe how much I hated Kojima for that after waiting since 2002 to 2008 for that crap GTFO
And the the phantom ruse and I said that’s it iam done with this man way of story.
Liquid: snake did you like my sunglasses
Snake: put a shirt on
Liquid was really an evil villain. Solidus was savage in his evil methods and ends but they justified truly noble means.
Good job summarising MGS's' plot so well btw
And to think that you can underestimate the saying "One man can make a difference" Big Boss or was the Key Element in Metal Gear games.
I know he's evil but also hearing that he would be able to finally think of himself as worth something if only for a few seconds makes me smile.
You completely ignored The Phantom Pain...I like you
That kid is not Liquid at all, do not matter what Kojima-fanboys say about it. ;)
I'm aware, but it isn't in the game.
The game isn't finished, therefore you might as well ignore it altogether.
Jose Colella cause is shit, right? love that meme...
This video actually opened my eyes, I never looked at Mgs the way you told it and now knowing the message it presented, I can apply it to my life and work to be better
"It was filled with... *the joy* of battle."
Ffff... :D
Snake?Snake?! SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!
This felt mostly like a plot summary of MGS1
Yeah I agree, seemed like 85% summary, 15% analysis. But it was enjoyable summary nonetheless.
Well to be fair, considering how convoluted Kojima's stories are, any analysis of his games have to come with a fuckload of plot explanation.
One of the best vids about MGS1. Great editing!
Liquid thought he was with Big Boss but he actually was with his phantom Venom Snake
Omg he's back, pls upload more
Superbunnyhop and hyperbithero in the same day???!!!!!
same person.
@@johnvonshepard9373 or we're they brothers?
Dun dun dun
I'm actually so proud that the credits track is sung in the Irish language. it's beautiful.
I only ever see Dio Brando in him anymore...
Liquid: “I’m stronger.”
Snake: “I’m smarter.”
Liquid: “I’m better looking.”
Snake: [Lie] “And I got all the dominant genes.”

Ocelot is actually the one who kills Miller. This is revealed in MGSV.
hyperbithero my dude a fifteen minute video about my mans liquid snake is the greatest gift you could've ever given me on this blessed sunday thank you so much
Y’know what’s odd though?
M the Modulator
I guess, but even so, he still made lots of risky decisions.
@@LordEmperorBoss No. He certainly wasn't the brightest.
...why in the hell was he wearing sunglasses in a codec call where you can't see the other person? 🤦
Immersion?
Homozygous recessive Solid Snake
Homozygous dominant Liquid Snake
Heterozygous Soldius Snake
Liquid had the recessive genes, but they were in fact considered superior soldier genes.
I GOT ALL THE RECESSIVE GENES
I LIVE ON THROUGH THIS ARM BROOTHHER.
I wish liquid ocelot didn't exist.
Me too!
Its such a bad plot point, and since that arm was part of liquid, shouldn't foxdie kill ocelot?
It does kill him xD
13:12 13:17
Bit, did you really go back and spend hours replaying part of MGS4 just to use 4 seconds of Ocelot existing in this video
Yes
That's dedication.
SO...THIS IS ELI??!!
Gray fox Devious intent?
Gay cocks?
I do not know, but we've drifted far!
I love these Devious intent Vids, great stuff! Would love to see a lot more MGS videos from you!
Liquid wasn't feeding him misinformation except for that he called himself Miller.
The 2nd greatest Final Boss fight in the history of video games. The dialogue between Liquid Snake and Solid Snake before their brawl is legendary.
The way he talks gives me a Dio vibe
Considering that Kojima's self insert is an literal otaku, and all of the NGE parallels, i am not surprised that jojo had an influence on MGS
Hinjaki Hinjaki Solido Snakeu
I like how you used the clips from the original MGS, not that contrived parody of a remake.
Liquid is 305 years old? 1:09
Edit: nvm lmao....it's 30s
Wolf's outfit resembled EVA's
kojima games has so much reflection, that is one the best thing in his games, this video just opened my mind to more reflection about it.
Temptation Revelation is being tempted into finding out something horrible...or divine.
Another solid installment in this great series. Good job, man!
"know this ....zero and i ....liquid and solidus .... we all fought a long bloody war for our liberty "
Dude, you HAVE to make one about Ocelot, my favorite MGS character. It'll probably be your biggest project yet
I know next to nothing about MGS, but damn, this sounds like some great writing!
The best video I've seen from you yet. Great work.
Another excellent video, man. I really love this series. Do you plan to make a Devious Intent about Dracula (Castlevania series)?
I'm pretty sure everyone here has already played this and just rewatched it all the way through anyway.
Liquid got the soldier genes so he didn't care about killing but solid had the weak genes that made him care and have compassion for others. The way big boss saved ocelot multiple times cuz he was still young. If it was liquid he woulda killed ocelot not caring if he was young
Finally! I never thought he would actually do one on Liquid.
Liquid is more interesting when you've met him as a kid
in case you don't know, the MGS plot is based of a book called "the selfish gene" wich touch the same themes of this game's plot.
>feeding you misinformation
I think Liquid was the only one honestly telling you the truth. Great video. Cam Clarke is superb.
Liquid is my favourite character in the Metal Gear series
Liquid glasses can turn him to miller...
So… we meet again…
*BRRRRRRROOOOOTTTHHHHHHHEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR*
so when are we getting devious intent on metal gear:survive?
really i would have said Komani was the antagonist
Devious Intent: Konami
Liquid’s so-called misunderstanding of genes is far less annoying than the endless YT comments about it. Especially in a game where a floating man in bondage gear throws chairs at you with his mind.
Great video lad
Me: * sees thumbnail *
My mind: yas liquid, walk like an Egyptian
One day, my friend your drivers license will have savant symbol. Keep it up!
This... this game was too far ahead of its time. A true video game masterpiece, and in my honest opinion in terms of plot and story? The greatest of all time.
I'm so glad you didn't use footage nor mentioned the GameCube version. I played it not long ago and it didn't worth the money I paid for it.
Dukefazon How much did you pay for it?
I don't remember exactly, somewhere Between $21 and $28. I was lucky because a local store had one and didn't know it's worth more than $41.
y, Liquids character is preserved in it. you make sound like he was doing karate flips during his speeches
Liquid just mad because Big Boss met a GENETICALLY SUPERIOR Snake
I'm still waiting for a Dr Cid (FF12) devious intent. It's got to happen! Please!
No
How was Liquid born from big boss' dominant genes if his hair is fucking blonde
liquid is the vicious clone ,solid snake the defectuous one and solidous de perfect one
Ocelot's the other Metal Gear video, isn't he?
No, it's skull face
I did consider that as a joke, but Bit's been posting screenshots from the rest of the series on Twitter and I feel like he'd probably have discussed Liquid's legacy if he wasn't already planning to cover it in an Ocelot video.
Yeah it is a joke.
Skull face, wtf can u even say about him? Completely worthless character.
Liquid : "You got all the dominant genes And I got all Dumb recessive Genes and WAAAAAH!!!
Solid : * holds a open 8th grade biology textbook * "...what?"
