I'm still amazed how the graphics still hold up extremely well. I wouldn't mind if they remaster that game, but I think it would present a challenge for port devs since that game relies heavily on PS3 gimmicks. That and Konami unfortunately.
Raiden - "It even rained the day I was born..." Snake - "You've got it all wrong. You were the lightning in that rain. You can still shine through the darkness." 😤😤😤
MegaAnitoon It's the most polarizing MGS before V was out. Super Bunnyhop has stated he'll never review it because he can't take it seriously. It's a game that even MGS fans goof on a lot for it's over the top scenes that trump over the previous games. You either love it or hate it.

Then after the credits you realize that the lyrics perfectly symbolize both Big Boss's life and Solid Snake's life. Then you realize that it's completely over. All that suffering, finally over. And you won't ever see them again. You won't ever be there for them, even if you're just the player controlling them. But you're slightly happy while you're sad, since their suffering is done and they have time to rest now.
wawa fucking A! Why don't i hear more people talking about this!? MGS4 was brilliant every step of the way. As mentioned by many, the Perfect send off to the series. But the creme-de-la-creme is the Shadow Moses section of the game. It was Glorious in every way. Goddamn beautiful MGS4. Was. I juuuuuust finally played through Ground Zero. And am now on to Phantom Pain. MGS4 being the perfect send off for the series, i have my concerns.
Same here. I was just finishing moving out when my old roomie was playing through it. Watched for like four hours. Bought it and a ps3 like the next day.
"Crying wolf is a fight where you move all over the field" Me: MOVE? (flashback to where I sat under the truck you start next to with a silent rifle and the thermal/nvgs on, happy that frog soldiers never found me, wolf couldn't shoot or pounce on me and the cold weather wasn't able to drain my psyche meter.)
As someone who played MGS when it originally released, I remember what a big deal it was. The events in that game became iconic to me and my friends. Going back to Shadow Moses in MGS4 brought back so many memories. MGS4 is one of the most incredible gaming experiences I ever had.
Nanomachines being the reason for everything that was once seen as mystical and mysterious kinda put me off. But they made up for it with Revengeance's "Nanomachines son!"
of ourse there are still some very inexplicable things that cannot be explained by nanomachines either, but yeah that was kinda annoying too. for the record, I am referring to vulcan raven, The End, Psyccho Mantis, The Sorrow and Fortune
MGS4 is a technical marvel for the PS3 as MGSV sort of was for the next gen consoles. The textures and sheer amount of detail in everything is baffling. Though what pushed it from a weak game into a favorable MGS game for me was the more somber moments that appeared through the latter half of it all, the soundtrack of it is still great and I think the Shadow Moses throwback was very well done.
The first bit that really got me was the Guns of the Patriots scene. I was blown away by that. The first levels are good, but nothing bombastic happens like you'd expect in an MGS game. Then Ocelot pulls that, you suddenly realise how reliant people are on nanomachines and how vulnerable it makes them, and it turns into a massacre. Such an underrated moment, wonderfully ties up the entire first half of the game.
MGS4 is one of the few games that has made me cry. The scene with snake putting the gun in his mouth at the end of the game was really emotional after all the shit he went through.
I honestly adore this game. I see the problems, and why many don't love this game. However, I think its a great finale to the Solid saga (Im not counting all those later Big Boss games) Also first!
Go In Nemesis I've played every main Metal Gear games including PW, and it's fun, and I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it holds up to its predecessors
Anthony Cournoyer Besides the few hour long cutscenes, Big Boss at the end and the character of Johnny, I love the game! It's one of the best games ever I think. It's only after MGS5 people started shitting on it. I prefer 4 because it's story driven AND has great gameplay. It's unlike any other game I ever played. The music, voice acting and graphics are amazing. Old Snake is badass! And the humor is still there!
Hideo Kojima was the ultimate troll to his fans... "Oh you're ready for a sequel to see how Snake resolves the events of the first game. Well get ready, because Snake is BACK... for the first quarter of the game. After that, you'll be playing the rest of the way as a character who literally wasn't in any of the trailers or even the box art." "Okay okay... I get it. You don't like Raiden. Well don't worry, because in the next game you are playing as SNAKE....'s genetic father Big Boss, in a prequel that predates all the games in the series. Answering literally ZERO (wink wink) questions about the previous two entries, in fact raising a slew of all new ones!" "Alright... alright, the people have spoken, and I am here to comply. This time, I swear, you will be playing as Solid Snake... THE Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 1... as a seven-hundred-year-old man... what? WHAT?" Side note: you ever notice how theses so-called "super soldiers" are sort of the worst infiltrators of all time? Seriously, almost every game ends with the bad guy saying "Hah, Snake... your entire mission, and it's subsequent success, was organized entirely by ME! I've been guiding your every move, including the one where you kill me." Worst... stealth soldiers... ever...
"Fine, fine... you want to see the end of the Big Boss saga that finally explains how he went from the lovable guy in Snake Eater and Peace Walker to the mad tyrant from Metal Gear 1 and 2? Well prepare to play as BIG BOSS... 's body double who was brainwashed and had plastic surgery to resemble the real Big Boss, doing an irrelevant mission that has no impact on the story while the REAL Big Boss is building Outer Heaven offscreen."
I will always remember the days of MGS4. Just to think of how difficult it probably was to get a torrented copy on PC and it was never for any other platform. It was the star of the Playstation 3 and you bet there will be die hard fans booting up their PS3's in the future to experience an old relic. It was truly a mega single player experience that completely isolated you from the rest of the PSN community and launched you into the ride of your life without paywalls, DLC, friends lists and other pointless online features that somehow are always in games today. You put in the disc, start your system, and go. Like it should be. We love all the developers who worked on this game. Here's to you.
Someone send this video to SuperBunnyHop "Metal Gear Solid 4 may not have the brains of a Metal Gear title, but it sure has the heart--one of the biggest I've seen a game have." Perfectly said.
Gianfranco Crocamo I just came back to this video after watching George's, and I've gotta say, in one third of the runtime, Gamingbrit has much more insightful and original points to make about this game.
Fuck Superbunnyhop, I fucking hate that guy. He is so smug like he knows what he is talking about when I have schooled him in the comments (which he deleted because cowards do that) on the series.
Mike Stoklasa has a smug thick enough to kill people, but he's earned it. At best, George has read books on game design, which I can say is more than what most people, even in his racket, can honestly say. It's not enough though. _when I have schooled him in the comments_ What about?
Wow Brit, nice video. You sure made some good points. Just a reminder, you're still not helping the economy by holding those bolts, you should look into buying a Pixilizer.
Would you make an exception if I skipped the cutscenes ONLY when I'm doing a run to get the Stealth Camp and Infinite Bandana and then after I do that, then I actually play the Metal Gear Solid games normally and watch the cutscenes?
@@Xxandrew01 we All know the Rule is 1st gameplay may be done in 20+hours 10-20+ hours of gameplay 4 hours of cutscene 2nd gameplay -Go bigboss hard or Boss extreme depends on how good you are 3rd gameplay -Go for big boss emblem or shoot some tanegeshima in acts 1&2 + corpse control with sorrow's doll.
It's a good game, yes. But I wouldn't think that's some revolutionary thing,it's not like a gap between 1 or 3 years. But if you talk about graphical leap from 1998 to 2001,then I would agree.
I really had no problem with MGS4. You have to accept every game feels entirely unique in tone. MGS feels nothing like MGS2 just like how MGS2 feels nothing like MGS3. And so on and so forth. Personally, my favorite is Peace Walker - and it convinced me that Big Boss was a more compelling character than Solid Snake. But that's my own *preference*. MGS is not the series for flowing tone.
Peace walker really is a great game with some of the best co-op mechanics I've ever seen in a game, it was fun to rush through the main stages for that S-rank, the only, and biggest problem this game has, is that some stages almost demands you to play co-op, or else, you're in for a world of pain. My favorite MGS is MGS 3 tho, I love how smart the AI is, it keeps me on edge the whole time
Back when it first released, I remember everyone raving about MGS4, but nowadays I see it massively hated upon. Me? I loved it when it came out and I still consider it to be my favourite Metal Gear, with MGS3 a close second. I would say it's best played on hard mode first time around too, as you're pushed to make smart decisions and be more careful. As for some of the cancerous comments here... Can we not just accept that different people like different things? I mean, I thought MGSV was trash, but if it's your favourite game in the series then that's just fine, I have nothing against you. Too many gamers nowadays just won't accept opinions other than their own. It's sad and pathetic.
People who hated on this game were not only all soulless, contrived, and late but were definitely those who played a portion of it one time, got sucked into the campaign hole against it filled with myth and misinformation, and forever wanted it to be something it isn't; and thank goodness for that because we all got something much better with this game.
@@jonts7 imo MGS V is the worst game in MGS series (I'm not including Peace Walker, Survive and P-Ops here ). Missions are repetitive and boring, sneaking is just easy- crouch, then run up to people and spam CQC button, most objectives don't feel important, a lot of missed opportunities. Even the key fragment of the series is lost. It's the story and cutscenes. Almost nothing epic and world changing is happening like it did in other games
@@jonts7 Nah, still bad as a game too. Just another pointless open world with too much empty space. Everyone copying Ubisoft's terrible games has ruined so many franchises.
I will never understand why some people (gladly, most people think like me on this one) bash MGS4 so hard. It was the perfect ending for the series. A rush of emotion, ideas, intelligence and overall, love, love for the saga and its incomparable story. I understand some people dislike the long cutscenes, I really do, but for me, there was no other way around it. Look at MGS V, it had few cutscenes and the story felt dissrupted, incomplete (the absence of cutscenes was not the only problem, but it definetly contributed to it). I adore this game. I was crying almost the entire campaign. It changed me as a human being. It represents the cenit of this amazing saga. It is, despite its flaws, truly a masterpiece.
I'll make a few bullet points, then - Niomi changes side for no reason - Big I have Cancer scene - Everything is nanomachines - Convoluted big ass plotdumps with literally hours of slideshow without and actual point other than making things seem complex - cool guy Major Zero and goofball, movie-loving Paramedic retcon into The World's Source of All Evil and Even More Evil Unethical, Monster-creating Scientist - MGS2 retconned into raiden being in FOXHOUND and working for campbell even though its stated several times in MGS2 there is no FOXHOUND and the colonel in MGS2 not only wasn't campbell, it wasn't even a colonel - theme of antiamericanism in MGS1-3 completely dead - women's depiction taking a bad turn *think the boss in MGS3 and naomi nonsensically drooling over vamp in MGS4.) (mei ling turning from kid genius to "hey nice butt gurrl") - vamp is nanomachines - B&B unit is as charismatic and interesting as MGSV's parasite unit #5 #12 and the unforgetable parasite unit #52 - overall change to style over substance - rise of the self important monologues that add little to the story and last for half an hour - pretty much the worst dumbest comedy acts in the series (johnny pooping cutscenes, johnny and meryl having shooting sex/marriage proposal) - silly liquid arm cop-out/retcon the list goes on, but that should cover the basics
I lterally pissed myself the first time I beat this game. I couldn't put the controller down during the ending. My bladder nearly burst and I pissed myself....
After the release of Phantom Pain and the fallout with Kojima, MGS4 really was the last great full Metal Gear Solid game. MGS4 wasn't perfect, but it hit so many right notes with the epic moments and call-outs to the original Solid trilogy. It made such a great bookend to a great series.
That's just it, MGS4 is a series of callouts to the MGS Solid trilogy without any discernible identity of its' own. None of what it does in-game is distinct or meaty enough to warrant coming back to. MGSV did the middle eastern environments way better. MGS3 did jungles way better. And Shadow Moses in MGS1 actually had guards and not those whack-ass dwarf machines that are a joke and a half even if on alert.
@Mike "And Shadow Moses in MGS1 actually had guards and not those whack-ass dwarf machines that are a joke and a half even if on alert." I agree with you on your other points, but if you think that's a fault, then you entirely missed the point of the MSG4 Shadow Moses stage.
MGS4 is probably the only game that takes full advantage of playing as a frail old person, Joel from the Last Of Us is weirdly fit for a 50 year old, same thing goes for Big Boss in MGSV, your not just fighting the enemies, your also fighting against your own limitations
@@Miyakolover So are you trying to tell me Para Medic as part of the Patriots was a good twist? Eva coming back to life was a honest good thing to do to her character and how many misunderstood her ideals? And Raiden going along with Rose Mary was the best idea for him to fall back on despite the fact that she betrayed him and lied about his son's death? That's a masterpiece?
@@hiptydiptateejack8712 1. Why is Para Medic being part of the patriots a bad twist in the first place? 2. Eva "coming back to life"? What are you talking about? And her "ideals"? What? 3. She didn't "Betray", she had to go with it because Campbell wanted to protect her for Raiden's sake...when the danger was over she revealed everything to Raiden and Raiden accepted it because he loves Rose and there was no reason for him to hate her after that revelation...maybe try to see things from the characters perspective a bit more? Yes, that is a masterpiece : )
@@Miyakolover Okay, first I'll deal with Rose first cause, to me, if you think about this for a second or two its incredibly contrived and Rose is a monster by all means. Campbell too. Back in act 2, when Rose explains what happened between her and Raiden, she doesn't actually lie, all she says about their son and Roy is that the baby hadn't been born yet and that Roy was 'so kind to me', but now we know that Raiden believes that Rose had a miscarriage and that she married Campbell. So here's a revised timeline of the events after: after the Big Shell incident, but before the child was born, memories from Raiden's time as a soldier began to resurface and he became unstable. He started drinking, he stopped coming home, all kinds of tragic stuff. At some point in here, Rose got close to Campbell, also at some point in here Raiden took on the mission of saving Sunny from The Patriots, which means that he was communicating with Eva, so while Raiden is dealing with *PTSD* and *ALCOHOL ABUSE* Roy approaches Rose and says, "Hey! You know you're currently bearing *JACK'S CHILD*? Here's the plan: we're gonna tell him that *HIS SON* is *DEAD*, and then you're gonna pretend that you *DON'T LOVE HIM ANYMORE* and stage a *FAKE MARRIAGE WITH ME.* We'll do this to *PROTECT YOU* and your son from the Patriots." and she said *YES* Who knows, maybe having Raiden believing he lost everything during the most vulnerable period of his life were to kill himself, that somehow covered under the risk/reward section of the details of this plan, isn't really a terrible idea after all. We're told the Patriots don't know 'Little John' was born, which I find baffling beyond all reason since they're everywhere and everything but even if that were the case are we really meant to assume that Rose is completely out of the Patriots sights just because not in a relationship with Raiden anymore? What's stopping them from just using her to take advantage of him again? Do they really think that he just wouldn't do anything if that happened? If she's safe from that with Campbell why couldn't she and Little John just stayed with Campbell in the first place? If Campbell and Rose can both know about his existence why can't Raiden be in the know? The explanation for why they had to lie to him like that is so fucking contrived and also somehow barely explained. Maybe if Raiden from the future was able to communicate with Rose he would of okay the plan, this maybe would have been a sacrifice he was willing to make, but this was *ROSE'S CHOICE.* Am I really gonna believe that she would do that to him and still loves him and that this is gonna be a happy family from here on out?
The aesthetic of this game is so strong that makes it worth waiting through several install screens worth it even if the install screens are pretty A E S T H E T I C in there own right
Metal Gear Solid 1 came out just 2 days before my 5th birthday. Till this day it was the single most amazing birthday gift anyone could ever give me. This game series changed my life and made me see the beauty of storytelling in various types of art. Thank you Kojima, for your gift to mankind.
Defiantly my favorite Metal Gear game and such a fantastic send-off to one of the greatest video game series of all time. Well, you know, before that whole MGS5 thing happened.
I remember playing twin snakes when I was really young. I sucked but loved playing it. My brother sold it and I didn't even remember the name of the game or the characters so I couldn't buy it back or any of the other games. Then quite a few years later I get a ps3 and decide to buy mgs4 since I heard it was good. Thought it was weird but good but didn't understand a god damn thing until act 4. Once I realized the connection between this and twin snakes I pretty much acted like I found jesus christ. Also the pain to my arm because of the gw hallway finalized this game as my favourite of all time for like 7 or 8 years until I played the stalker games. This makes me wanna buy nother ps3 so I can play mgs4 again. Thanks brit
Thank you for this. I've always loved the metal gear series, and the one moment that sticks out is the final fight in MGS4. That whole sequence is just a blast of nostalgia.
Yep. It has to be right up there with the most replayed games I've ever had. In fact, I think it just might be, if not a close behind Super Metroid or R-Type Final. The story was cool, and still makes sense despite being incredibly convoluted (as long as you kept up with what was going on from the other games), I still maintain it has far and away the best gameplay mechanics in the series (although I did miss the survival aspect and isolation of Snake Eater), and the Drebin Points system and ending codenames really kept me hooked after so many clearances of it.
That guitar in Old Snake's Theme. It is so badass. It's like all of the struggle and near death experiences Snake has endured finally caught up with him physically
Amazing review, ive always felt that MGS4 gets a lot of hate it doesnt deserve,to me it was the perfect closer to the timeline, yes it has its flaws and its plotholes, but it makes up for it,
The dirty midget Amen brother. I re-bought this game last summer and got the platinum trophy a month later. This game is amazing, especially after beating MGSV.
lil115slayer I can't even beat mgs5, it's too boring. Unlike earlier games they couldn't keep the long cutscenes entertaining, the stealth is fine but it was basically all the generic usual stealth systems popularized in better games dumped into giant system, (It felt like metal gear but just wasn't as good) the open world made the game boring as shit; the game world was a barren desert that felt empty, making any trip boring as all hell, the change in scenery couldn't even help it, and the villain and bosses weren't good at all, a total lack of creativity. I hated it.
Pixar The Great I invested about 200 hours into that game trying to do all the side quests for missions. I despise how they made duplicates of some missions just harder
lil115slayer Me too. I spent ages doing the side missions, often before continuing on with the story. I'm a huge fan of the series, and while I'd noticed that the boss fights were pretty terrible, I was having too much fun with the gameplay. I started realising something was up when Skull Face just randomly died out of nowhere with no confrontation and without him providing any real threat, then you find yourself fighting a Metal Gear that's infinitely more advanced than Rex and Ray ever were (again, for no apparent reason), even though you're only apparently half way through the game. By the time I realised they'd fucked up the story and tried to cover it with duplicate missions, it was too late. The worst part is, I absolutely adored the game right up until the road trip with Skull Face (minus the boss fights). The gameplay is absolutely sublime, I still maintain that with a proper Metal Gear standard plot and characters, it could've been the best in the series. The shitty duplicate missions, the missing chapter after Liquid steals the Metal Gear and that bullshit ending (even though it makes *some* sense in the grand scheme of things) make me absolutely hate the game though.
I can feel the love put into each of your videos. Currently going on a spree, and I have not been disappointed! Thank you for being a fan of these games, you’re doing them all a great justice especially devil may cry!
No, if fucking sucks. I have been a Metal Gear fan since the NES days, and I fucking hate MGS4. God it sucks. It was total shit. From shit gameplay, the drebin system brakes the game as you can never run out of ammo, no tension, the bosses I didn't give 2 fucks about. Ocelot was ruined in this game instead of using his father's parentage as reason why he can channel Liquid, nope instead it's the nanomachines and hypnotism. Fuck it was stupid, the whole game was garbage.
It was meant to play during the original ending of mgs4 where Otacon and Snake were executed for thier crimes with philanthropy, makes sense considering heres to you is about two wrongfully executed anarchists.
This was like watching the last chapter of one of the greatest "film series" ever. It had some humor, it had drama, action, sadness and heart break. This will always be the best of the whole series.
MGS4 is one of those games that's heavily flawed, but you can tell that there was a genuine spark or motivation behind it, even if it came from someone besides Kojima (who I think, it's safe to say, had grown sick of the series at this point). MGSV, by contrast, was much more consistent (although I think the writing for V was some of the worst in the series) but felt very soulless, like everyone involved just wanted to be done with it and sell some microtransactions.
MGS4 is my favorite game ever made. It's alienating to newcomers, long-cutscene-ridden, and up its own ass, and I love every second of it. There's just this satisfying feeling of fan exclusivity, like Kojima made the game just for people who've stuck with the series through it all, and there's such an air of finality to it that causes the ending of the game, despite being an hour and half long, to be in my opinion the greatest ending to a video game ever. "This is good, isn't it?"
I've read and watched a lot of content about the Metal Gear franchise. But watching this video about MGS4 and celebrating the franchise may be what finally gets me to play the games
I love all the MGS games. There will always be a lot of haters of MGS 2, MGS 4 and MGS 5. You know what? The entire franchise remains beloved by me and many others until we are six feet under.
When the credits began, I stood up and saluted the tv screen (no joke) the music and everything got to me. About a year later I finished it with my friend and he said that he wanted to salute the tv...

I juuuuuust finally played through Ground Zero. And am now on to Phantom Pain. MGS4 being the perfect send off for the series, i have my concerns.
Mgs 4 was perfection !!!! I miss this game so much and its multiplayer too .... I did shed a tear with shadow moses
It was an amazing moment, especially for long-time fans of the series. I had goosebumps all over my body when Snake has his dream on the helicopter.
me too dude xD
I will never forget that feeling
This is the game that made me buy my ps3. MGS4 is a wild ride from start to finish. I've beaten it tons of times and will always go back to it
Also great video
I heard MGO2 is back online.

Same here. Was the only reason i had a ps3
Same here. I was just finishing moving out when my old roomie was playing through it. Watched for like four hours. Bought it and a ps3 like the next day.

Got to say this video gave me some nostalgia. Awesome game.
*standing ovation, this was so well put together
MGS4 is a technical marvel for the PS3 as MGSV sort of was for the next gen consoles. The textures and sheer amount of detail in everything is baffling.
Though what pushed it from a weak game into a favorable MGS game for me was the more somber moments that appeared through the latter half of it all, the soundtrack of it is still great and I think the Shadow Moses throwback was very well done.
Plus MGO was pretty neato.
Berg Electron MGO was criminally underrated. Sadly MGO3 is nothing like MGO2.
Agreed 100%. I beat this back in 2008, 10 years ago and I really want to go through and play it again.
Until you realize MGSV came out for PS3.
Anthony Cournoyer peace walker was a good game u should try it out
Go In Nemesis I've played every main Metal Gear games including PW, and it's fun, and I really enjoyed it, but I don't think it holds up to its predecessors
Anthony Cournoyer Yea it had a great story and was really cool on the psp but fighting tanks is only so fun
Anthony Cournoyer One of my favorite platinum trophies
Anthony Cournoyer Besides the few hour long cutscenes, Big Boss at the end and the character of Johnny, I love the game! It's one of the best games ever I think. It's only after MGS5 people started shitting on it. I prefer 4 because it's story driven AND has great gameplay. It's unlike any other game I ever played. The music, voice acting and graphics are amazing. Old Snake is badass! And the humor is still there!
MGS4 is my favorite one of the series. It was so damn immersive.
This video reminded me how much I loved those characters.
How emotional, and important everything was to me.
Hideo Kojima was the ultimate troll to his fans...
"Oh you're ready for a sequel to see how Snake resolves the events of the first game. Well get ready, because Snake is BACK... for the first quarter of the game. After that, you'll be playing the rest of the way as a character who literally wasn't in any of the trailers or even the box art."
"Okay okay... I get it. You don't like Raiden. Well don't worry, because in the next game you are playing as SNAKE....'s genetic father Big Boss, in a prequel that predates all the games in the series. Answering literally ZERO (wink wink) questions about the previous two entries, in fact raising a slew of all new ones!"
"Alright... alright, the people have spoken, and I am here to comply. This time, I swear, you will be playing as Solid Snake... THE Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid 1... as a seven-hundred-year-old man... what? WHAT?"
Side note: you ever notice how theses so-called "super soldiers" are sort of the worst infiltrators of all time? Seriously, almost every game ends with the bad guy saying "Hah, Snake... your entire mission, and it's subsequent success, was organized entirely by ME! I've been guiding your every move, including the one where you kill me."
Worst... stealth soldiers... ever...
Well, in the end all he can do is take orders. If the people giving the orders are manipulating him, it's not a problem with his stealth skills.
the first part of this comment hits differently because of TLOU2
"Fine, fine... you want to see the end of the Big Boss saga that finally explains how he went from the lovable guy in Snake Eater and Peace Walker to the mad tyrant from Metal Gear 1 and 2? Well prepare to play as BIG BOSS... 's body double who was brainwashed and had plastic surgery to resemble the real Big Boss, doing an irrelevant mission that has no impact on the story while the REAL Big Boss is building Outer Heaven offscreen."
@@xugh1283 I don't get that reference...
@@mattbrendlen a lot of people disliked The Last of Us 2 when it released for much of the same reasons MGS2 was.
Then again, MGO was one of the best multiplayer experiences in the genre. So even on that front MGS4 exelled.
I am a die hard fan who has recently booted up my PS3 to play it...
Someone send this video to SuperBunnyHop
"Metal Gear Solid 4 may not have the brains of a Metal Gear title, but it sure has the heart--one of the biggest I've seen a game have."
Perfectly said.
Gianfranco Crocamo I just came back to this video after watching George's, and I've gotta say, in one third of the runtime, Gamingbrit has much more insightful and original points to make about this game.
Respectfully disagree. Gamingbrit sounds like he's looking at the game with rose-tinted glasses.
_when I have schooled him in the comments_
What about?
Darth Grumpy
I'm interested in knowing what exactly you corrected him on?
Wow Brit, nice video. You sure made some good points. Just a reminder, you're still not helping the economy by holding those bolts, you should look into buying a Pixilizer.
The way to look at MGS4's lengthy story is, it's the "Director's Cut" of what we would normally get. The fully un-edited version.
If you skip the cutscenes you aren't a real mgs fan.
Would you make an exception if I skipped the cutscenes ONLY when I'm doing a run to get the Stealth Camp and Infinite Bandana and then after I do that, then I actually play the Metal Gear Solid games normally and watch the cutscenes?
@@Xxandrew01 we All know the Rule is
1st gameplay may be done in 20+hours
10-20+ hours of gameplay
4 hours of cutscene
2nd gameplay
-Go bigboss hard or Boss extreme depends on how good you are
3rd gameplay
-Go for big boss emblem or shoot some tanegeshima in acts 1&2 + corpse control with sorrow's doll.
@Grim Scythe shhhh .... we're here to play a kojima game. *eats popcorn*
@Grim Scythe then you can skip the cutscenes and go full assbag somewhere else
i play the game mainly to watch all the cutscenes and over explaining things lol
In hindsight, the graphical leap that occurred between 1998 and 2008 was fucking mad.
It's a good game,yes.But I wouldn't think that's some revolutionary thing,it's not like a gap between 1 or 3 years.
People who think MGS4 are trash are generally child molesters
People used to hate mgs2 too, but now everyone is fawning over it, acting intellectual.
@@tastycookiechip damn dude
@@tastycookiechip Why lol
My favorite MGS is 4 too, but if I were to call a MGS game trash it would be PW. At least MGS 5 had good gameplay and graphics.
This is the game that got me into the MGS series.
People who hated on this game were not only all soulless, contrived, and late but were definitely those who played a portion of it one time, got sucked into the campaign hole against it filled with myth and misinformation, and forever wanted it to be something it isn't; and thank goodness for that because we all got something much better with this game.
I liked MGS4 more than I liked MGS5.
Me too
@@jonts7 imo MGS V is the worst game in MGS series (I'm not including Peace Walker, Survive and P-Ops here ).
It's undeniable that 4 is way better.
I like mgs5 only because of the memes

I'll make a few bullet points, then
- Niomi changes side for no reason
- Big I have Cancer scene
- Everything is nanomachines
- Convoluted big ass plotdumps with literally hours of slideshow without and actual point other than making things seem complex
- cool guy Major Zero and goofball, movie-loving Paramedic retcon into The World's Source of All Evil and Even More Evil Unethical, Monster-creating Scientist
- MGS2 retconned into raiden being in FOXHOUND and working for campbell even though its stated several times in MGS2 there is no FOXHOUND and the colonel in MGS2 not only wasn't campbell, it wasn't even a colonel
- theme of antiamericanism in MGS1-3 completely dead
- women's depiction taking a bad turn *think the boss in MGS3 and naomi nonsensically drooling over vamp in MGS4.) (mei ling turning from kid genius to "hey nice butt gurrl")
- vamp is nanomachines
- B&B unit is as charismatic and interesting as MGSV's parasite unit #5 #12 and the unforgetable parasite unit #52
- overall change to style over substance
- rise of the self important monologues that add little to the story and last for half an hour
- pretty much the worst dumbest comedy acts in the series (johnny pooping cutscenes, johnny and meryl having shooting sex/marriage proposal)
- silly liquid arm cop-out/retcon
the list goes on, but that should cover the basics

Max G You're not wrong, it the final MGS game in the time line, mgs5 takes place in the 80s and it wasn't made by hideo Kojima

@Mike
"And Shadow Moses in MGS1 actually had guards and not those whack-ass dwarf machines that are a joke and a half even if on alert."
I agree with you on your other points, but if you think that's a fault, then you entirely missed the point of the MSG4 Shadow Moses stage.
The opening alone makes this one of the most brilliant storys ever....

MGS4 is probably the only game that takes full advantage of playing as a frail old person, Joel from the Last Of Us is weirdly fit for a 50 year old, same thing goes for Big Boss in MGSV, your not just fighting the enemies, your also fighting against your own limitations
Wait Joel is 50? I though he was in his mid thirties.

Here's the plan: we're gonna tell him that *HIS SON* is *DEAD*, and then you're gonna pretend that you *DON'T LOVE HIM ANYMORE* and stage a *FAKE MARRIAGE WITH ME.* We'll do this to *PROTECT YOU* and your son from the Patriots." and she said *YES*
Who knows, maybe having Raiden believing he lost everything during the most vulnerable period of his life were to kill himself, that somehow covered under the risk/reward section of the details of this plan, isn't really a terrible idea after all.

The aesthetic of this game is so strong that makes it worth waiting through several install screens worth it even if the install screens are pretty A E S T H E T I C in there own right
I've always loved this game and it's still in my top 5 all time favorites.
This game came out 9 years before this video. I checked.
Nice profile pic, Genobee.
Thanks brit
MGS4 will always be a great game for me!
"The new power of the PS3"
That sentence makes me feel old..
Thank you for this. I've always loved the metal gear series, and the one moment that sticks out is the final fight in MGS4. That whole sequence is just a blast of nostalgia.
Dat ending tho. David and Otacon are down like four flat tires.
I fucking love MGS4. Second favorite from 3.
Same here mate. Fucking love MGS4 to death.
My order:
1. Sons of Liberty
2. Twin Snakes (or MGS1)
3. Snake Eater
4. MGS4
All were revolutionary in their own right
Same but you mean MGS3: Subsistence!! Greatest game of all time
For me it's gotta be:

MGS 4 got the heart of the series. I cried to that.
Amazing review, ive always felt that MGS4 gets a lot of hate it doesnt deserve,to me it was the perfect closer to the timeline, yes it has its flaws and its plotholes, but it makes up for it,
This is like one of my favourite games of all time. MGS 5 got nothing on this shit.
I hated it.
Join the club, I despise Phantom Pain. It fucking annoys the shit out of me that it got such high scores.
This might be one of the best videos I have had the pleasure of listening to. Cheers to mgs4
I can feel the love put into each of your videos. Currently going on a spree, and I have not been disappointed! Thank you for being a fan of these games, you’re doing them all a great justice especially devil may cry!

Mgs3 will always be the best game of all time. Too bad the remaster is used in a fucking pachinko machine.

I didn't think this game needed defending.
Great video. And you gave me a single tear of joy when you started playing "Here's to You", just like MGS4 did all those years ago..
Metal Gear Solid 4 has some of the most amount of passion for its characters I’ve seen. Shit still makes me tear up.
An incredible defense of MGS4, and a well-deserved one. This is one of my favorites in the series for all the positives stated. Great analysis!
Interesting the end credits song, "Here's To You" in also featured in Ground Zeroes. (Albeit a different version.)
It was meant to play during the original ending of mgs4 where Otacon and Snake were executed for thier crimes with philanthropy, makes sense considering heres to you is about two wrongfully executed anarchists.
mgs4 needs no defense its a great game
Wow, definitely your best video thus far. Nice touch at the end of the video with the quote and the music choice
MGS5 made me love this game even more!
But watching this video about MGS4 and celebrating the franchise may be what finally gets me to play the games
who cares dude! you should be searching the area for skidd's agent, he may need our assistance!
Alex Diaz Oh my...This is a comment that reminds of a shitty remake....
I am experiencing many conflicted feelings.
Have you considered buying a Pixelizer?

If Konami is going to do an online Metal Gear - Zombie game, Why not continuing an old online MG game? c:
it's been back a few weeks ago check out savemgo.com for details.
all you need now is a PS3 and MGS4.
Watcher O'Brien Recently.
Ah when subverting expectation didn’t mean ruining your story for shock value. Good times
I love all the MGS games. There will always be a lot of haters of MGS 2, MGS 4 and MGS 5. You know what? The entire franchise remains beloved by me and many others until we are six feet under.
What an absolutely bloody fantastic video.
When the credits began, I stood up and saluted the tv screen (no joke) the music and everything got to me. About a year later I finished it with my friend and he said that he wanted to salute the tv...
It's nice to see the game re-examined now that the 7th Gen system wars are done, slapfights over exclusivity always overshadowed the game IMO.
