2066: New Doom Speedrun strategy uncovered. If you deflect an Imp's fireball into the eye of a Cacodemon on just the right pixel, the entirety of Hell's spawn will simultaneously implode, instantly rendering the game complete. However, this only works when performed during a lunar eclipse.
It is not completely impossible to return into the map from void, however the restrictions are even harsher and practically you need an item placed in the void to help you boost the momentum. This means either the mapper did it on purpose, or you managed to force a pain elemental to spawn a lost soul out of bounds and then led the lost soul to the exact spot needed to void glide back. In which case absolute congrats, you haven't just beaten the game, you humiliated it.
You humiliated the game, but not yourself. You grew. You improved. You took a different path, and gained much. You may have broken rules, but you forged your own to replace them. You experienced an incredible victory. Everything was risked, and everything was gained. I hope you know the difference.

Instead, the reason why you can substitute a wall for a monster is because collisions between actors _don't affect their momentum._ You can see this pretty much instantly in Doom 2 by booting up a vanilla-accurate source port and running straight into one of the zombiemen on MAP01's staircase - you'll run into it, cease moving even an inch, and yet still have the movement bob effect with your viewpoint and pistol, plus you'll go zooming off at full speed once the zombieman steps out of your way. Iirc, because thingrunning is a thing, there's a few more details that go into making the feedback loop that allows for building up void glide speed, but overall the process of void gliding off of a corner and void gliding off of an actor are two entirely different processes that have similar results.

i love your speedrun videos, i like that you explain how its done, very thoroughly. im not a speedrunner and it always amazed me how people could complete a game in 5 minutes when it takes me a week of solid play to do the same thing. now i know!
Ahhh! The joys of "polygon folding" when clipping. Remember it well. Don't know if you know this: but original disk install of Doom 1/2 speed was only restricted by 386/486 CPU speed. So when Cyrix 586 MMX chips and pentuims came out they had to patch doom to limit the game speed because it was unplayable. Tap forward key and you were across the map, or bouncing off the game engine out of bounds wall in clipping mode. They certainly rushed the patch out sharpish. If you knew where to aim for the exit, you could speed clip any level in under a second. Main problem was not running straight through the exit and off the map. Maybe you could ask around for original pre-patch copy. CPU speed was 166Mhz and is what 4Ghz + today, not to mention bus speed or SIMMs compared to DDR4. Hell, the entire Doom 1 could get lost in my CPUs L3 cache lol. Just an idea bud.
So I'm watching this holding my baby, and he loves the screen effect when you clip in doom. He also said he loves the video, but the screen is the coolest part.
Totally off topic but if your kid is talking i dont think that counts as a baby anymore. No way a baby could articulate the fact that he likes a specific effect on the screen unless youre reading way too far into a smile or a clap or some other simple expression of joy
I never knew I needed to know about these things until your videos were suggested to me. I thank TH-cam for getting this suggestion right. I F**KING love your videos.

@@nineinchheels2041 I think he means that the movement of the weapon was too fast and there's cases were that was 'cause it was a false run.
@@unhelmet5218 Sounds like some high calibre nonsense to me. There's nothing suspicious about depravity's run, and there's not a single incident in the history of doom speedrunning where "weapon movement" was indicative of something fishy, or "false".
If anything, this is one of those cases where I'm glad that people with their unqualified opinions aren't something I need to deal with on discord. Nothing annoys me more than false allegations of "cheating" based purely on how somebody doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.
@@nineinchheels2041 I was just saying, it's good to have skepticism. I'm not saying "He's a rat that must be punished!" I was commenting about what it seems something that I also found weird. I don't know almost anything about speedrun. I'm not gonna put a lawsuit against anyone. Just having fun chattin' bout something. Have a good day! So calm down and have fun
i love your speedrun videos, i like that you explain how its done, very thoroughly. im not a speedrunner and it always amazed me how people could complete a game in 5 minutes when it takes me a week of solid play to do the same thing. now i know!
i remember feeling quite a mixed bag of emotions on the day of my 23 and zero master's 17
Damn! I can imagine!
I don't care too much about speedruns, but the way these videos are set up, and the effort behind it... Easily part of my favorite videos on TH-cam.
LOVE your doom content. And Quake too. Thanks so much!
Karl: finally I can finish the video
Speedrunners: *No*
Good video Karl. These are put together so well. Joy to watch
So I'm watching this holding my baby, and he loves the screen effect when you clip in doom. He also said he loves the video, but the screen is the coolest part.
Welcome to the void, BabyDoomguy!
Your baby can talk and articulate such things?
Totally off topic but if your kid is talking i dont think that counts as a baby anymore. No way a baby could articulate the fact that he likes a specific effect on the screen unless youre reading way too far into a smile or a clap or some other simple expression of joy
@@TheLastApostle I can't tell if you're joking
@@supervillainx6761 im being about half sarcastic
Best lore/history channel for speed running?

15:00 blew my mind
I never knew I needed to know about these things until your videos were suggested to me.
I thank TH-cam for getting this suggestion right. I F**KING love your videos.
You know you've played too much Mass Effect when you start hearing the Illusive Man theme at 17:15 xD
Do you know that the actual song he uses is? I've heard it in a ton of stuff but I can't find the name anywhere
I just sat down with my Dinner and the Notification for this Video popped up.
Fucking perfect. Love the Channel, always looking forward to new Videos
1:00 "it's understandable to ashume..."
reminds me of "you can't make an accusation like that without evidence, i ashume you have some"
I never knew there could be a whole YT channel and/or community on DOOM speed running haha. I found this surprisingly interesting!

thank's
Another A++ video bro, somehow i just love everything you do
Dude I have a memory as a kid..... I walked through the walls of a certain level and can't remember which it was.... Once I got so far out I ran into a pitch black room and it had those strobing flashing lights with a goddamn cyber demon in it.... I need to find out the level name and therefore I can go look where I remember as a kid. I know exactly where I ran outside the map to get there
On the wiki, you have all the levels where a cyber demon appears:
doomwiki.org/wiki/Cyberdemon
Down, at "Appearance statistics".
Doomguy. Doom Slayer. Hell Walker. Seeker of the blood of the Wicked. Time Walker. Physics Defyer.
What next shall the mighty Destroyer conquer?
