I was a kid when I played this game many years ago, couldn't finish it, but it always stuck with me. Now with these videos I feel such nostalgia and nerdyness, I love your videos Karl, never stop doing them.
Perfect Dark's biggest downfall was that it was released at the end of the N64's lifespan and the PS2, XBos and Gamecube were all on the horizon. It was a great game...not as memorable as Goldeneye IMO, but still a fantastic spiritual sequel. My friends and I played the hell out of Goldeneye, and I suspect we would have transitioned to Perfect Dark had it come out a year earlier than it did. I bought it the day after my grandma's funeral and one of my friends came over to play it...he moved to LA a week later. All my friends were graduating college and moving on when PD came out, so we never played it. The core group of friends that I had all through high school and college had splintered, and video gaming, for me, has never been the same. The N64 is the console I'm most nostalgic for because I have such fond memories playing Mario Kart, Mario Part and Goldeneye with the friends I'd had for most of my life up to that point...I don't get the same enjoyment out of playing games online as I did back in the late 90's playing 4 players with everyone in the same room. Them's were the days.
I love these videos. I Have never played these games or sped run any game. His explanations make it feel like I’ve been keeping up with a 15-20 year old game’s tight knit community of speed running since it came out.

I find it kind of funny that I've never played Perfect Dark and barely played Golden Eye at all as a kid but I've watched dozens and dozens of speed running videos about both games. I have hardcore inside knowledge about Perfect Dark and I've literally never played it haha
As someone out of the loop on GE/PD speedrunning Karl entered my awareness as just a guy loving speedrunning and explaining the records that have happened but especially these past two videos have shown so much of how incredibly talented Karl has been for close to two decades without boasting about it or even mentioning the fact that one of the GoldenEye examples was his. Karl is talented, Karl is humble and Karl is an absolute legend!
The only thing I could see possibly being improved is that when he killed the Skedar he got hit by the explosion. Not sure if it would save enough time to drop to 23, but it's something.

I've been a fan of newground's music portal and this doesn't ring any bells. Care to link to any sample?
Paragonx9? I was wondering if it was the same person.

I was browsing around on youtube and I found your channel. I binge watched your videos and I love them! Your explanation about the game and the speedrun community is so clear with some runs shown. Keep up the good work!
When Bryan Bosshardt’s run pioneering self boosting with the phoenix came out, I was still in the goddamn NICU. Surreal.
You make literally the best content on youtube. Period. Your content is so enjoyable to watch. Keep up the great work!
Ahh the good old 'alien conflict'. What a great soundtrack from perfect dark.
Loved and played goldeneye more
But the music in Perfect dark were 👑
It was my wake up alarm for a few years
The beat sounds exactly like Six Underground, which coincidentally borrowed a different part of its song from Goldfinger. I always thought that was a cool connection from Spy movie to unrelated song back to Spy game.
Karl Jobst: starts by saying "Hello you absolute Legends."
Everyone: *starts crying*
I find it kind of funny that I've never played Perfect Dark and barely played Golden Eye at all as a kid but I've watched dozens and dozens of speed running videos about both games. I have hardcore inside knowledge about Perfect Dark and I've literally never played it haha
Karl, these videos are fantastic historical background, much of which I was unaware of or had forgotten. Thank you for making them.
You should check out RWhiteGoose. Hes good some good Golden eye videos that feature Karl a lot
I absolutely love that you show the full runs so we can see exactly what you're talking about as you talk about it
Speed running annnnd juggling? I didn’t know this was a man of class.
The only reason I'm not skipping over the sponsorship is because of your amazing juggling skills. You go Karl!
Some of the oldest record Man ur way too humble
Karl is the real absolute legend for being so cool and humble about his records, especially after having lost his and how chill he was
The only thing I could see possibly being improved is that when he killed the Skedar he got hit by the explosion. Not sure if it would save enough time to drop to 23, but it's something.
Probably lost 0.05 to 0.1
@@karljobst so yeah, probably not enough to get to 23. Thanks for responding, great vid as always!
@@karljobst I am not a speedrunner, but I absolutely love your videos. It is so crazy to think that .05 could have been the difference of tying or beating the record. Speedrunning is intense.
I wish I had half the determination as you guys.
I really appreciate these videos. I've never played any of the games you've mentioned but still find them informative and professional. Instead of ramblings and adds every 2-e minutes.
And once again the old speedrunning adage "no record stand forever" shows its face..
Also, damn he barely talk about the record. Being the one who held the oldest unbeaten record is an impressive feat, hell if I were in his position I'd write "PERFECT DARK GOD" as my middle name and tell everyone I know about it..
But not Karl, not him...
He has like 20 of them :(
Rayan is not only crushing Goldeneye but this game as well? Wow. Now *that* is an absolute legend.
It blows my mind that this is still happening.
At 7:15, you see that “CH”? That’s me 😎
Sw1z
No, lol its obviously me lel, give proof
Every time I watch this, I can’t help but love the Karl is skeptical but very supportive. While most, (me included), would DEMAND proof or take further actions, Karl just goes ‘awesome’. You have to love this guy
coronavirus give to the speedrunner comunity a lot of free time xD
Nice new vid! Always liked how in depth you explain all the strats, and how well researched the videos are.
Keep up the good work!
"This run..." Chills everytime
from someone who has never been interested in speedrunning i cannot stop watching your videos they're just so intriguing. thanks for these.
That :24 was absolutely insane. The movement was fucking crazy
I love every video you put out. Smart, concise, entertaining. Thank you for your effort, my friend. I binge your vids every couple of months, and actually have a few friends I can talk to about speedrunning because of your content.
me: *opens video*
Karl: "Hello you ABSOLUTE LEGENDS"
me: *closes video*
These videos are awesome. Every time I see a new one posted, I get so excited. Then I watch it. And I get so sad that it's over and there are no more new Karl Jobst videos to watch.
Imagine this record being beaten yesterday, so every viewer of the run or this video thinks it is for april fools🤣😂
Your humbleness really makes me enjoy your videos even more than I already do.
10:29
Woah woah woah, ParagonX9? That old Newgrounds audio artist? I didn't know they did PerfectDark speedruns, that's kinda cool if it's the same person
When a world record is older than your friend
When the world record is older than your underage girlfriend
Wait until it becomes 16 yo then beat it you legend
@@bagazheful 16 is still underage in a lot of countries
Dang, i had no idea how young Ace was. I've seen a number of their record videos over the years, and i remember them being a big inspiration in my own speedrun attempts on PD. Even more amazing now knowing that. Keep up the good work ace.
Bruh you actually said "popped his world record cherry" 😂😂😂😂 (18:04)
And here he is.
Karl Jobst. The humblest speedrunner to ever humble, praising a kid who beat him. Absolute legend.
24:20 When people beat entire Super Mario games blindfolded, completing a 24 second run while looking down doesn‘t seem that tough in comparison.
I've been bingeing alot of your videos but to see you and perfect dark..now I get why I like you. This game was my childhood
You're like the kliksphilip of speedrunning xD
I don't do speedruns, but every time a new video is released on this channel, I have to watch it, these are so interesting, love it!
“I can’t believe this happened”
What I said when I saw Karl upload!
