this is a problem I have seen with mostly IR pumps its not the pump but the amount they run. example you run the pump for 20 minute in the morning to pump the system up( the pump gets warm not hot) and have zero demand the rest of the day. the pump get just warm enough that it will cool down and condensate water inside the crank case. if the Pump runs more it either cooks the moister out or never even develops the condensate because of the run time. I do not know which . IR has ( use to and may still have available) a crank case heater for these problematic pumps. I service a 50 HP Quincy screw that is a constant run machine but not using much of its pumping potential and it also has a water problem . the customer on Monday morning before turning it on for the first shift of the week drains the water out of the separator tank. Usually a couple ounces a week. in that Quincy we also have the customer on an oil that helps suspend the water in the oil while running( and it is a very pricey oil) bottom line its about short run time. thanks for watching the videos. Bud
@super duper ducky interesting but with to many IRs mostly the smaller 1s if you pull a vacuum in the crank case you have a possibility of ruining the crank seal. the modern spacer that is on the outside of the end bearing has helped with this issue . but I still would not recommend this practice. i with the 325s being so overbuilt I have to wonder just how bad this problem is ?
Could be wrong, but that intake valve being dirty,-an missing, is a give away that dirty air entering the intake, eventually “dusting” the engine oil, but heck I am an old man rambling, I am here to learn.
Do you have a video on Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) for compressors? We have a 15 hp Phase Converter trying to run a 10 hp Ingersoll Rand compressor and, for obvious reasons, the motor won't reach full capacity at startup. Our only option, without doing expensive upgrades, is to install a VFD.
So any idea what caused the dark oil? I'm having the same issue. I changed the oil (wolf's head non - detergent hydraulic and compressor oil sae30) 3 weeks ago. I just switched to this oil because my other oil was looking like a very tan color and frothy. I have a fairly new model 2545 upright 120 gallon. I bought it off an individual that had it stored in her garage and was never put together because her husband fell ill. so this compressor has only been running now for roughly 3 months. (I installed the motor and compressor head on to the upright mounting brackets). Now as soon as I change to this recommended non detergent oil, my compressor got noticeably louder. when I change the oil about 3 weeks ago I cleaned it out then very well and when I clean this out this time it was extremely sludgy in the bottom and the oil was extremely dark. any ideas will be appreciated and Thanks!!! This wasn't a cheap compressor and I don't there's a warranty on it being I bought it from an individual. no I did notice there was no oil pickup tube at the bottom of the crankcase when you took that cover off or did I not see it? I don't see one looking the my sight glass or fill location. also the cover that you took off had lines going to it mine does not have those lines going to it. there's a spot for them in the casting but no holes were ever put into the cover.
Hi Chris so I will work backwards through your question and comments. your machine is a 2545 Economy that means you have no built in unloader and no lo oil shut down but you do have a sight glass to see oil level. This is a splash lube pump so there is no oil pickup tube. as for warranty the IR warranty, is 1 year if you do not use their T30 select oil (overpriced to pay for the extra warranty.) so if it is under 1 year you may be able to get IR to talk to you. but the 2 year warranty is gone because of the other oil you put in. as for the sludge and noise. SHUT IT DOWN NOW! change the oil and use what I put in . here is a link I make nothing on . It is what I use for ALL my IR non warranty customers. my opinion is it is every bit as good and about 2/3 the price of T30 select. www.amsoil.com/p/synthetic-compressor-oil--iso-46-sae-20-pci/ as for getting dark after running...? that may be the nature of the brand of oil but building sludge. it makes me wonder if what you have used is what the customer in this episode was using. I have zero problems with discoloration or sludge with the amsoil compressor oil. good luck. You may contact THE Guru through the link below. thecompressorguru.com
Robert Ben we use and recommend PCIqt-ea Amsoil synthetic compressor oil this is a 20W. If you are local we stock plenty of this. if not got to amsoil.com and find a dealer near you.
Thank you for your concern. I have never been able to work with gloves on, that includes freezing weather. the good news is I have no cancer history in my family. I am sorry about your Dad.

So is this issue related to the cold ? Or ?
