But what about something that is almost never talked about, that there may be good compression but the oil rings may be damaged or worn out

Toyota says my pistons are bad on my 2015 Toyta rav 4 , 174000.00 miles. I am using a quart of oil every 1000 miles. They recommend replacing the engine. My question is can I just repair my pistons?
What is recommended change piston ring and gaskets or change the whole engine? I recently bought hyundai sonata 2013 after 2 months of use I found out its loosing oil, no leak no smoke, I changed the pvc valve aswell. 😪

@@miclomusic805 now try a wet test. If the number changes then the piston are bad. If nothing changes then maybe a valve is bent or not sitting shut completely.

@@miclomusic805 no problem. Hope it goes well. If you have a scope you can also check to see if you have oil inside the cylinder and see how that piston is looking

My compression on my 05 Saturn Vue 2WD 4 cylinder is at 15 psi I think this is the problem.
Was 95% sure it was the piston rings now I’m 100% sure it’s the piston rings/

That sounds like a misfire to me. Check your spark plugs, coil packs, and wires. Usually pretty simple to fix

On a Ford 4.6 2v v8 ,with the heads removed can you replace the piston rings without removing the whole block from the car ?
I think engine or at least heads need to come off to be able to change them with enough space and view because the cam is overhead

You need to do a compression test. First a normal dry test and then a wet test.
