The voltage should fluctuate as the system purges. Compare to Specs: Compare the voltage readings to manufacturer specifications. A faulty sensor may produce erratic readings or readings outside the normal range. EVAP Purge Valve Test: Command On/Off: Use a scan tool to command the EVAP purge valve on and off. EVAP System Leak Test: Smoke Machine: Use a smoke machine to introduce smoke into the EVAP system. Look for smoke escaping from any hoses, connections, or components. This will pinpoint the location of a leak. EVAP Canister Vent Valve Test: Check for Blockage: Inspect the vent valve and filter for any blockage or restrictions. A clogged vent valve can cause excessive vacuum in the tank. Vacuum Pump Test: Apply Vacuum: Use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum to the EVAP system. Monitor the vacuum gauge for any decay, which indicates a leak. Component Tests Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor: If the FTP sensor readings are out of spec, replace the sensor. EVAP Purge Valve: If the purge valve is not functioning correctly or has a leak, replace the valve. EVAP Canister: If the canister is damaged or restricted, replace the canister. EVAP Canister Vent Valve: If the vent valve is faulty, replace the valve. EVAP Lines and Hoses: Replace any damaged or leaking lines or hoses.
I have a chevy cruze with the 1.4L turbo. The PCV valve is under the valve cover and unaccessible without complete removal and replacement of the cover. Its throwing a code for lean air mixture. No rough idle no stalling no smoke but acceleration has been getting worse and highway driving is starting to be out of the picture. Although fuel economy is unchanged. The hose leading out from pcv valve has accumulated a small pool of clean oil ontop of my intake manifold. I dont have the tools or area needed to work on it. I have put it off for about 3 weeks now. Have I already damaged the engine severally?

NEED HELP: I have a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer V8 is was running great. However, it starting a little jerk every blue moon when I would hit the gas while drive but it was sporadic. It still drove great. At red lights, if idle too long it would sound like it was loosing power & shake a little. I would hit the gas pedal but it would take the gas 2 seconds slower than usual. Yday, it died at the red light. Took it to O'Reilly this morning to check the codes. It gave primary DTC Fuel System Too Lean (Cylinder Bank 1). P0171 crankcase breather house and PCV valve. We replaced the PCV valve but it runs worse and won't stay crank. Please help me.
Your 2004 Mercury Mountaineer is likely experiencing a lean fuel condition due to the P0171 code, indicating not enough fuel or too much air entering cylinder bank 1. After replacing the PCV valve, ensure it’s properly installed and check for any vacuum leaks, especially in the crankcase breather hose. The fuel system should also be examined for clogs or pressure issues, as a failing fuel pump could contribute to the problem. Good Luck!
Ok I don't have a code reader and have run into an issue with my 2011 camry. The first start up in the morning is great. The engine cranks right up. After I have driven it for a few miles 10, 20 or 30 and let it sit for a moment it cranks, cranks and cranks then eventually starts up. I recently put in a new battery and replaced the air filter. Any suggestions where to go next? I've been told the fuel pump, but the car idles and runs great other than the start up on a warm engine.
Sounds like the car is getting older and needs a tune up. I would drop a bottle of SeaFoam Can in the gas tank. Hit the highway for 1-2 hours. Check and replace spark plugs. The problem of course can be fuel related. So you would want to start with cheaper fix options: replace fuel filter, SeaFoam will help clean the fuel injectors. Go from there. Hope this helps. @@fixit3879 Ok thanks for everyone's help in helping me diagnose my car issue. I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump and everything seems to be working great. Around $400 because I couldn't find the exact replacement for my car anywhere else, but that's ok as long as it works.

I took it in and my shop laughed in relief "Audrey, it ain't electrical. It's the stupidest reason, come on back, take a look at this! It's the dang PCV valve, take it back!" I am starting to believe Autozone is trash!!!
Yes, a bad PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve can cause your engine to run rough, especially under additional loads like when the air conditioning is turned on, as it affects engine vacuum and performance. Replacing a faulty PCV valve may improve engine stability and performance. Good Luck!
no mention was made of the valve cover baffles which is part of the PCV system isnt it......when the baffles get clogged with carbon it affects the PCV system and cause high oil consumtio doesnt it? I find so
If your 1987 Porsche 911 smokes on startup, a faulty PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve could be a potential cause. The PCV valve helps regulate the flow of gases and can lead to smoking if it's clogged or malfunctioning. However, it's also worth checking other potential issues like valve seals, oil leaks, or worn piston rings, as these could contribute to smoking as well. Thank you for sharing. What other symptoms do you have?
Air escaping from the oil cap could mean a faulty PCV valve or excess crankcase pressure. It’s worth checking the PCV valve and having the engine inspected if the air flow is significant or there are other symptoms.
@@tonycervantes4816 just change your PCV most are ~$10. look for cracked hoses and squeeze them. the pcv discharges into your air intake usually at the throttle. spray carburetor cleaner gently and slowly. when you hear it rev up you, found a leak.
It might be a faulty thermostat, radiator cap, radiator hoses, or a small leak in the AC system. The first thing I would highly recommend is getting an AC system pressure test done to check and see if you have any coolant leaks.
Also, before you start your vehicle, take off the radiator cap and check if the coolant level is where it should be. Also, start your vehicle and look under the hood and underneath the vehicle to see if you spot any visual leaks. If you are not sure, just take it to a mechanic shop if it makes you comfortable.
@@DanielShepherdjr thanks, will do. but cannot also be that the oil is forming sludge and so causing to overheat?? or even sludge formation should not cause the overheating??
@carlosandresparra9306 Not necessarily always the case, but it is something to look at. There are good engine flush products you can try, like Liqui Moly Engine Flush, but if you go that route, I highly recommend you use Liqui Moly motor oil from that point forward after performing the engine flush.
