    Nothing but problems with all of Samsung products. My ice maker was repaired within months of purchase and has continued to freeze over, replaced two Samsung microwaves in 5 years and replaced dishwasher after 5 years. Of course replacements were different manufacturers. Will never purchase Samsung products again.

    Hi,
    awesome video and hoped that you fixed it permanently.
    In 2021 Samsung send a tech out to install a new auger box, a new ice maker, and those 2 clips. But I did not receive a new control board. The problem still exist and I have lived with this and how I dealt with it is detailed below.
    I stumbled on this video b/c I have a Samsung and ice buildup inside the ice maker and want to share this. I am not a technician or certified but lived with this nightmare for 4 + years. I am not talking about ice buildup in the fridge (I don't have that issue yet thanks god). What I discovered is this...the ice maker has a sensor that stop producing ice when it is full.
    So, for 4 month, I would constantly check the ice container and if the ice is half full, I turn off the ice maker manually. I am not saying this is a permanent solution but this is what is happening in reality. My ice maker compartment will work perfectly as long as I turn off the ice maker when it gets half full.
    If I stop monitoring and let the ice maker fill the box up with ice, then the nightmare freeze begin. Again, I have lived with this and have proven this many times.
    In my opinion, there are 2 solutions. 1) buy a new fridge (most likely not a Samsung brand). 2) I don't know if Samsung is reading this and if there is a way for them to modify the sensor on the ice maker to stop producing ice when half full (so I don't have to constantly monitor it and turn it off myself). I know they have sensor built in to stop when the ice reached the top but I wonder if they can modify it (after the fact that it has been designed initially to stop at full). It might not be doable since they have to physically rebuild certain components and how the sensor was built and location to check for full. Again, I think only Samsung can answer this question and if it is something as easy as updating the firmware, it would be a great service for Samsung to make this change for their customers. But if it is more than just updating the firmware, I would agreed it is sol for us suckers who bought these units.

    • @ShareTheRepair
      @ShareTheRepair  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great attention to detail. I personally agree with the fact that if it truly is a software issue (since a new control board is provided with the kit) then it needs to be rolled out to customers by Samsung free of charge.

  • @matta.5363

    Other Samsung repair techs say that the Dow silicone sealant DOES NOT WORK PERMANENTLY. The ice maker will function for a while, but then the silicone springs leaks because it does not adhere well to the plastic ice maker housing in the sub-freezing temps.
    A Samsung company tech told me (July 2023) that Samsung is ditching the silicone sealant for a more durable epoxy sealant.

    • @ShareTheRepair
      @ShareTheRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there. So fill tube is for water entering the ice maker. Drain tube is for draining excess water from the ice maker. Not all ice makers are equipped with a drain tube however. On this Samsung refrigerator, the drain tube is located on the auger assembly.

    How long do you let the adhesive dry before you complete the install?

    • @ShareTheRepair
      @ShareTheRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question actually. Samsung did not provide a specific time allotted to silicone drying before re assembly. I would suggest to allow enough time for silicone to start feeling tacky before complete reassembly. I would clean out the ice room from all ice and wipe it completely down so there is no moisture and my next step would be to silicone the perimeter. This way when I’m messing with the auger assembly, silicone is drying. By the time auger assembly is done, silicone should be tacky enough for reassembly. No time wasted.

    I wish I had seen this video first! I just replaced the ice maker, but I didn't know about the Y clips. Now I'm afraid of taking everything apart again! I really don't want to...
    Also I used a heat gun a long time ago and it looks like I warped the plastic of the wall. Does a steamer not warp the plastic?

    • @ShareTheRepair
      @ShareTheRepair  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, I must have missed your comment somehow. A steamer does not warp plastic in direct comparison to a heat gun. I wouldn’t take it all apart just yet. More then likely, the issue will come back and then you will need to install the y clips, control board and drain tube if you haven’t done so already.

    How and where do you get the mystery box of parts?

    • @ShareTheRepair
      @ShareTheRepair  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The mystery box is ordered directly from Samsung. After you establish a phone call with a Samsung agent, they will ask for model and serial number of your unit. By collecting this info, they will be able to see all the parts and/or kits that your unit has to offer. If your Mastercard has a high enough limit and should you choose to, you can even order your whole fridge down to the screw in parts. Now that I think about it, that might actually be fun…

      There are various repair kits for various models. The only way to know the exact repair kit your model number requires, you will need to contact your fridge manufacturer directly, speak to parts department, provide them with your model and serial number and then they will be able to provide you with the correct part number for your repair kit. However a warning. This may not fix your fridge.

      @@ShareTheRepair Thank you for replying, the freezing is happening in the ice maker itself. I'm not sure what popcorn ice looks like but it does look icy, like little spikes. I have thawed it multiple times but still it does not work and it keeps freezing. I have hit the little blue button to reset it and it sounds like it wants to do something but is stuck so it just gives up. I have found ice cubes in the ice maker so water is getting in there but it doesn't seem to be able to remove it. I have ordered a replacement ice maker. Is your ice maker still freezing after doing this? Ofcourse it would work for a few weeks after defrosting, but up to when?
    Mine started acting up july 2022, the repair guys replaced the flapper, the rubber gasket, temperature sensor, ice maker assembly, but it is still freezing up.
    I had to defrost the ice maker drawer every 2 to 4 weeks just to remove the ice build up.
    I suspected mine to have a bad or failing ice maker fan(in the auger assembly), because the ice buildup starts with the hole below the y-clips. What I thought is that - if the fan is working, the dripping water should be blown away from that hole and not into it. I tried to remove it and connected directly to a 12v source, and VIOLLA! it didn't spin at all. Ordered a new one @ around $12, tested it with the 12v directly and it spins great.
    PS: while waiting for the replacement fan, the ice maker worked without the fan installed

    I also ran the test on the ice marker and I could barely see the top auger moving a little.

    • @ShareTheRepair
      @ShareTheRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, this is very common when replacing the drain tube. Try inserting a small screw driver (like I did in the video) into the drain port and wiggle the drain port up/down/left/right while inserting the auger assembly. New drain port is not seated in the exact same position as the old drain port was therefore it is not perfectly aligned with the drain opening inside the fridge.

      So let me explain an interesting component with these Samsung fridges. If you and me bought the same exact Samsung Fridge at the same exact time, we would experience both same and different problems. But what’s most interesting is that if we both had this ice maker issue come up at the same time and we performed this same repair to both of our fridges, your fridge could be fixed permanently and my fridge would be fixed temporarily. Or vise versa. At this point in time there is no guarantee that performing this repair will permanently fix your fridge and unfortunately no way of knowing how to determine which fridge qualifies for a permanent repair. My fridge is still holding up but there are others out there whose fridges held up for a month or two and then the issue came right back even after the replacement of all these components.

      If you unplug the fridge for about 2-5 days, yes that ice inside the ice compartment will melt. However melting the ice will not fix the freezing problem. Ice should not be building up on the outside of the ice maker in such a manner. After complete defrost, ice maker will operate (if it’s operational) however it will get right back to building up ice on it until it completely obstructs your ability to remove the ice bucket again and then it’s back to square one.
