Hello and welcome to my channel. I'm a long time DIY guy and car nut. I'm a firm believer in the idea that if I need something done I'll try to do it myself before I hire it done. Some of this mindset comes from wanting to saving money, some from pride in doing it myself and some is just the lack of trust in someone not doing it correctly and over charging. I HATE people trying to take advantage of others. Knowledge is valuable.
With my channel I hope to share my many years of knowledge in building and repairing cars, trucks, boats, and small engines of all types. If you are wanting to learn to do a project yourself, learn how to make sure your not ripped off, or maybe you just enjoy watching others do interesting projects. I hope my videos will give my viewers a better understanding of what it takes to do many projects correctly, economically and safely.

I purchased a 1966 289 Ford small block engine that was built for a Mustang. The seller changed his mind and sold it with only 1500 miles on a fresh, high end, rebuild. He had the timing set wrong and he used really long spark plug wires. I will set the #1 piston position for the timing and cut each spark plug wire to fit nice and tidy.

Did you do a video of installing your inverter and trafer switch. Please let me know thanks Rob.it would be great if you did. Great videos .
Yes, I did do a video with the inverter and transfer switch. Here's a link th-cam.com/video/9P97ANvovPI/w-d-xo.html
Where did you get that gas cap from. I would like to get the same one. Looks like it all worked out great job. Also where did you get that flexible fuel hose from. All your help would be great thankyou Rob. Great videos i enjoy watching all your hard work that you have done so far thankyou.
I got the gas cap from Speedway Motors. It is... RideTech 81000040 Billet Locking Gas Cap Kit, 62-67 Nova. I got the hose there to but I don't have the part description for that.
Your background sucks
Good video. Those little things bug me as well with the aesthetics but looks a lot better.
Great review, and thank you for providing a lot of good tips.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much! I am a member of the busted water heater club, no thanks to GD. But I was within my extended warranty so they covered it thankfully. I did it your way this year and I now have confidence that I will be OK in the spring.
Glad I could help!
I think you should have did a little research on the saw before you opened it up. You did not know what you were doing, nothing personal. Kind of watching the proverbial monkey with a football. Once you know what you are doing, you can take one of these apart in about ten minutes. The throttle linkkge is just an interference fit insde the case which you pop loose with a screwdriver. When disassembled, kit the carb, replace/clean the screen in the fuel inlet port, new fuel lines, and a felt/rag filter in the tank. Reassemble, set the coil gap, new o rings in the oiler and you should be good to go. There were a lot of things missed during disassembly and reassembly. When you had it apart, you should have taken the muffler off and had a look at the piston. It was probably okay as the saw seemed to have compression. Plus, it started. The rubber sleeve on the intake has to be properly inistalled for a good seal. It is unknown regarding the condition of the air filter. Don't throw old saws like this away. This one is better than the craftman electic one you showed, Where you screwed up is you did not take the saw very seriously. You have a hotrod in the background, you should know better. This little one cylinder motor deserves the same attention the motor in your hotrod does which you just took it apart and took it for granted. You did the samething a kid would do on a car and halfass takes his motor apart without really knowing what he was doing and nothing changes when he put it back together. The chainsaw was probably fine. The biggest problem with most chainsaws and there are millions of them out there. Most people who have them only use them seasonally. When they finish using them, they put them away with gas in the tank and let it sit and sit. The gas evaporates and leaves residue behind as it evaporates. Next time they want to use it, no start. The varnish residue has gummed everything up. Also, remember when kitting these little carbs, to clean them as the passages inside of them are tiny. You want to make sure that gas and air is properly flowing through the carb. Then, adjust the high/low screws accordingly.
I can’t believe how hard plastic rear windows are. Makes the glass ones look easy. Of course…those can break if there’s an issue, so…
Terrific video. The top quality itself is so important, and you show that.
Most helpful video i have ever seen amd i love how happy and smiling you are! My battery is still going dead and i hav3 a charger hooked up 25/7 and i have mine hooked up to my sisters house on a 30 amp to a 50 amp dog bone connected to a 50 amp in the basement
Thank you for the kind words. Be careful with overcharging your batteries. Keeping them hooked up and "charging" all the time will damage them. It is best to keep 12 volt batteries on a battery maintainer rather than a charger.
*good information... on a side note, this is why i think nautilus panels are the worst. the intent is to make things simple, everything is at 1 panel and you just flip some valves around. the reality is a couple simple bypass valves on the back of the water heater, and an antifreeze introduction hose at the water pump is still much easier. simple, standard panels are becoming a thing of the past, unfortunately. the additional amount of hoses and fittings required to plumb a complex panel like the nautilus system is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary. it also adds about 30 new spots for an RV to leak. just my thoughts, thanks for sharing the info on the manual.*
I totally agree, the system looks like a good idea to simplify it all but they totally missed the mark. I have had my trailer for two years and and I have have had way to many issues. I hate the panel and I am thinking of pulling it all out.
Does the antifreeze damage the water heater ? I have heard that the chemical could ?
Not all RV antifreezes are safe but most are. Here's what to look for. Propylene glycol: Non-toxic, non-flammable, and safe for RV plumbing and fresh water systems. It can also lubricate faucet and toilet seals.
U did a good job, but still prefer to pay an auto Glass to do it properly 😅
I agree. It was good to try it and show it can be done at home but I will not do it again.
19:29 Hi, I’ve watched your video a few times now, and I don’t see anything about the converter/ charger. How is the disabled when the inverter is in use. Jeff
Great question. The inverter prep loop (orange wire) is designed to bypass the AC and the converter / charger breakers in the breaker box.
I used to deliver campers and fifth wheels to dealerships from the manufacturers. It doesn’t really matter how nice or expensive one is, because they are thrown together so fast and sloppy that things like that unfortunately get overlooked at manufacturer. The running joke up around Elkhart and Goshen, Indiana, where most of those things are made is they are built by the finest meth heads in Elkhart County Indiana.
Yep but those meth heads sure work fast. LOL
Thanks so much for your video. I have a Reflection with a tankless water heater too. And I followed directions last year and had to replace my water heater in the spring. I was considering letting the dealer winterize as they said if the did and I had a problem they would replace my heater. Honestly, Grand Designs should be paying for the replacements. I followed their directions exactly. This is my 4th RV but 1st tankless water heater. And my very well be my last. I miss being able to use electric. I have friends that camp in higher elevations in the Rockies and say they have to use electric on their water heater. I'd hate not to be able to do that. I'll winterize myself like always but I have confidence that I shouldn't have a water heater problem next spring.
We camp in high elevations and have been fortunate to not have any issues with the heater. It is nice to have never ending hot water but we have to use way to much water to get hot when we want it. I don't like the tankless heater and I really miss having the option of electric.
Had the very same experience with Camping World. Warranty doesn't cover a damaged heater either. Ended up costing us $1000+ to replace.
I hate Camping World. Corporate great at it worst.
What hitch is this?
Curt E16
The photo of the trailer has cut away corners eliminating the need of a sliding hitch.
Brings up a great point, make sure the front corners of the trailer will clear the truck cab with short beds.
I would suspect that the pump drain unit on the bottom you removed near the end might have been leaking from the motor to pump connection (pump seal) as it should not have a dirty pool of stagnant water in the drip tray underneath the unit. Keep an eye on this area for any future leak problems.
First off, what model reflection is it? I noticed the difference in my 337RLS, had two, grey water T-pulls to drain while yours has 1. Also At the 10:33 mark, as you are draining the two low point hoses, I see water coming out dripping just forward of the axle. Where is that coming from as wasn't addressed in your vid. Do you put the plugs back into those low point hoses prior to starting the process once they are drained?
My model is a 226RK (26 foot, rear kitchen, 5th wheel). It has one 35 gallon fresh water tank, two 35 gray tanks and one 35 black tank. One gray tank tee handle is at the panel and the other handle is under the frame at the rear. I have a white tee handle between the axles and that is the fresh tank drain (that is the water you see dripping at the 10:33 mark). I do put the low point drain plugs back on once everything is drained.
Hi!! What size did you use??
Mine are 20" long (extended). I tried 80 pounders and they were too strong. I think I ended up using 60 pounders but I'm not sure.
Thank u!!!
Your welcome!
@riderescue heading for loctite right now then heading home to follow ur good simple thorough instructions bud!!😊
@@aricmiinch5547 Awesome! I have been using my truck bed for many heavy loads in the past year and I love the support the bags give. I keep them aired up to about 30 psi and I don't notice much change in the ride when the bed is empty. Good luck!
@riderescue thank you again seriously!
@riderescue it went great!! Exactly how u did it was perfect hoss! Thank u! I did have a question as to how much your able to haul in ur bed now without to much squat? I cut and haul big trees for my side money hobby. I sell fire wood. LOTS of fire wood. Was constantly squatting the truck pretty bad and im Really hoping to be able to load her down now without making so many dang trips.
Outstanding video, really appreciate your in depth detail and information. I have the same exact rig and just ordered a new lithium battery, inverter and ATS. What size is the breaker you installed for the incoming solar feed to the charge controller? Safe travels! Kind regards, EJ
Glad you enjoyed my video. I have 365 watts of solar so I used a 50 amp low voltage breaker. To calculate, take watts of solar divided by volts. So my breaker need is 365 divided by 12 = 30 amps. I plan to add more panels so I bumped up to 50 amp. Also, my solar controller can handle 50 amp so the two can work up to that. Happy camping to you.
@@riderescue Thank you Brother, greatly appreciated! I’ll have all my materials here by next week and can do my install then! Enjoy all of your videos! Be safe! EJW
I wish u could do my top. U do excellent work
Thank you!
AT 16:52....how did you get the valve system off the actual front panel? That makes working on the valves a LOT easier!!!
Just discovered site, have icemaker issues as well as unit cooling issues. Next unit will not be another from this maker.
I am disappointed that you did not make smores, have some coffee to drink while you were working the fire and relaxing.
Good video but the quality our tv being made today is terrible
Question: What are the legal implifications, if any, for visually blocking the license plate?
I am in Utah so I looked up license plate codes. Here's what I found. "Utah law requires that license plates be legible from 100 feet away. Violating this law is an infraction". I don't know what the fee would be but the hassle is not worth chancing.
I think it would be helpful to know that a transfer switch needs to be wired along with the inverter.
Nice
Make it into a swedish fire log, or turn the stump into a rocket stove.
I found the leak on the black rubber hose coming out of that pump you took apart and said smelled bad. I believe it’s leaking out of where that rubber hose connects to the pump. When you had that pump apart, the small rubber ring on the side that the impeller fits inside when you put the 2 halves together, is the end of that rubber hose (it seems). Before I took that pump out, I squeezed that black rubber hose while I had the dishwasher on its right side and water started dripping from that side of that pump. Real hard to see the leak itself, but pretty certain that’s where it is leaking. Going to put it all back and use it and, when (not if) I get the LC code again, I’m going to buy a new one, mostly so I can tear into the old one more (take that rubber hose off) and see if it can be resealed with sealant. Thank you for the video!
Trailer should be nose down some
I have the same trailer and am doing the same install as you but was going with the 50 amp transfer switch. So my question is does your AC work when you are plugged in to 30amp and 50 amp shore power or genny???
I have a single AC and it works with both 30 amp dog bone connection as well as direct 50 amp.
I was watching a pro do a 5th wheel & the first thing he did was squirt some water from a spray bottle onto the Rv surface before he hit it with his polisher. I was watching another pro who stated 'Actually, anything will do just as long as it lubricates the surface'. Hunph. !
You bought this harness because its perfect for your needs, i bought the 12-14 harness because im broke 😂
I have a craftsman model 358.352070-14” chain saw. It is old, I bought it in 1980. It sat for a long time but I had someone change the fuel line and rebuild the carb. It has good compression. It will start and run for about 3 seconds then stop. In those 3 seconds, it will rev up giving it gas but still stops. What can be the problem? I hate discard it and get a new one.
Wait, you mean you bought it and they never demonstrated to make sure everything was working .....that's you fault dude
Yep. I purchased it "as is, no warranty" with a huge savings. And then Camping World managers asked me to sign a form that claimed everything was working on delivery. WTH? The sales manager would not let me inspect it but had the balls to tell me to sign that everything worked? I refused to sign it and then he realized how stupid he was and he wrote "as is" on the signature line. It was 8 months old at the time, I thought, what could go wrong? Well, just about everything that could go wrong did. In the end, Grand Design came through and fixed plumbing, fridge, slide out and more with a free extended warranty.
My power shut off today. All outlets , lights and ac turned off but no breakers or breakers in trailer went off
You should have put the cast iron pan on it and made steak.
Thank you VERY much for this video!!

Thanks. I hope it helps.

Thank you! I have a 48 truck...and I have been wondering how to do this. THANK YOU!
Glad to help
Thanks for this, installing them on my RAM soon and your video greatly helps.
I have been using mine for a year now and I love them.
hi, i have an inverter prep too, question im on a budget cant i skip the ats and just flip the converter breaker off when i use the inverter? if the whole point is ending the cycle of recharging the batt from the energy of the batt, wouldnt that just essentially b an "mts" or manual transfer switch? thanks
The problem would be that when you cut the orange inverter prep wire the lower section of the breaker box looses shore power to the lower breakers. You will need some type of switching system to switch from shore power to inverter. With 30 amps, and 10 gauge wire, the transfer switch is the best option that I am aware of.
Thanks for sharing! Awesome job! 👍😀
