I am so glad I found these videos on TH-cam. I thought I was the only one. We bought our Samsung refrigerator in February 2021. We have had an issue with the ice maker since we bought it. It does make ice, but the ice melts and clumps together. So we constantly have to keep pulling out the tray and breaking up the ice. This is ridiculous. I thought my paying a little more for a Samsung refrigerator as opposed to buying a cheaper one, we wouldn't have any issues. I, too, am an appliance service tech and know all too well about this problem. Allow me to explain this issue. Samsung decided to place a box that needs to stay below 15°F in order to produce ice cubes inside another box that stays at 33° or warmer...with no gasket or seal of any kind. So, there is a small, but constant leak of warmer air into the colder area, causing condensate and then subsequent freezing of said condensate. This process builds up and becomes a block of ice in your ice box. The only way to keep thos from happening is to use a silicone and apply to the spaces between the box and the wall. Also, during manufacturing Samsung may have pushed your your inlet hose to the ice maker too far in, allowing it to be too close to the inner wall of the spout to the ice maker, acting like a thumb held tight at the end of a hose, and spraying down instead of falling down in an even flow, causing overspray to freeze up and build up around the auger assembly's fan. If every time you go to get ice, a little water pours out...look at the ice room flapper door and be sure it is sealing properly. Room temp air can also leak in to the ice box from there and cause issues. Hope this helps in some way.

    • @anthonymartin2412
      @anthonymartin2412 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

sorry but the air leaks are the problem. bad flapper design will not hold water aka air leak no ptrap on icemaker drain line. I laugh at the drain tube heater in the ice room. Not sealing up crack in one of many updates . This same as a bottom freezer bad gasket aka air leak it starts to freeze at the cracks.

Hello, I am a Appliance repair company owner and we fix this problem all the time.
      1st- get Samsung silicone DA81-05595A,
2nd- do the proper defrost of the icemaker section( we use small steam machine, that can be bought on Amazon) . All the ice has to be completely melted and water cleaned.
3rd- apply silicone all around the icemaker box from the outside. You can use the flashlight on the outside and by looking inside the icemaker box it will be visible where warm air is coming in.
4th- if you want to be sure that evrything is 100% sealed you can remove icemaker and icemaker auger motor, it all slides out in couple steps ( there should be video of that) and apply silicone from the inside as well, all around the edges of the icemaker box.
4th step we only have to do in 1 from 5 fridges when amount off ice that is build up is so massive that we know that seal on the outside won't be enough.
      I hope I helped

It made ice reliably for 20 years until it got moved to the garage. If we put a new water line on it and hooked it up, it would likely start churning out ice again. We had two of these junk refrigerators. the first one lasted a year (with 6 service calls) before Conn's replaced it under extended warranty. The second one lasted six months before it was declared non-repairable and Samsung finally gave us a full refund. Every tech that came out said Samsung was junk. I totally agree!

    • @jmcwatchdog526
      @jmcwatchdog526 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Those techs obviously have no experience. Almost every appliance built now is made in China. LG and Samsung are made in Korea. LG started using a more energy efficient compressor but they break down more than often. Samsung has had issues with some of their Ice Maker designs, because they could not use the crescent cube heat release ice maker that is standard, China now owns the patent. Samsung has a great track record for little to no sealed system failures. Whirlpool, Maytag, Kitchen Aide, Amana, Crosley, Magic Chef all Made in China. GE Appliance Hotpoint, Cafe, Profile, and Monogram sold out to Haier another Chinese company.

@@jmcwatchdog526 I agree. We had an LG fridge a few years ago. After 2 yrs it just stopped cooling, completely. After many service calls (it was under extended warranty) they finally refunded it. We bought a Samsung to replace it and had no problems with it and found it to be a greatly superior machine in all its design and function. HOWEVER, when we moved and had to leave it we then bought another French door Samsung fridge. This one has been a disappointment. It has an interior ice maker that doesn't function well (and it's only 6 weeks old!), the freezer develops crystals, but mainly the interior just seems cheap. Our other one had great interior lighting that allowed you to see well even into the back of the fridge. This one has one light at the top. Period. The other one even had lights in the crispers when you opened them. This one, nada. I am not happy with it. As with many companies they are cheapening their products but still charging out the wazoo for them.

We cannot use our ice dispenser anymore so I found some nice old fashioned metal ice trays and get my ice cubes that way. It's simple, reliable and it just plane works! No electronic crap necessary. Many times the old fashion simple designs are far better than the new electronic ones.

@@jmcwatchdog526This has nothing to do with where the machines are made. The bottom line is that icemakers belong in the FREEZER. If you put an icemaker in the Fresh Food compartment, you will have problems. It doesn't matter what brand it is, they all suck. Samsung's suck the most, they've revised it 18 times, and guess what... it still doesn't work! If you want an icemaker with a dispenser, the only way to accomplish that without problems is to get a side-by-side. End of story.

It’s a design flaw. I have a 4 door Samsung refrigerator that had the same problem. My husband was able to fix it and hasn’t had a problem since. The flaw is the weight of the ice maker rests against the styrofoam insulation in the back of the refrigerator causing the ice maker to hang in the back. There are no screws or anything holding up the back of the ice maker which causes the ice tray to slant. The slant causes an overflow of water in the ice tray. As water escapes the ice tray, the temperature is constantly refreezing the water that escaped from the ice tray causing the ice buildup. My husband bought the updated replacement computer board and ice maker kit. In order to completely stop the ice buildup problem, my husband put a piece of expanding weather stripping under the back of the ice maker to help hold it up. He also caulked the inside and outside of the ice maker compartment. My husband fixed it over a year ago and we have not had any problems with it since then. This could easily be fixed if Samsung would redesign the ice maker so that it’s not resting on the insulation.

    Appliance technician here:
I absolutely hated getting this calls at my old company.
The first fix Samsung had us do was in install these metal "Y" clips on the evap/heater coil, replace the plastic seal, and to pull back the water line 1cm. It also never worked.
The second fix was far more drastic involving replacing the ice maker, sealing the rear of the compartment, and even replacing the control board. This barely worked either.
Sure enough within weeks or months I'd get a callback and then I had to head back and try another desperate fix.
It was bad enough doing it within the warranty, it as even worse when it was COD.
Now that I run my own company I take the time to present the fixes to my customers but I make it very clear they have high failure rates. It's never a good situation for any customer to be in. Some opt for the first fix since it's much cheaper. They're so desperate they'll try anything even if it's a gamble.
No one ever pays for the second fix which runs into the hundreds of dollars.
These days once I get the call I let them know that their best bet is to use a steamer every couple of months. You can get one from Amazon for $30. Don't use a blowdryer since it can burn, melt, or deform the plastic.
Or better yet stay away from Samsung.

@@JohnCBrown-me8gj Most brands are the same in that they're all made with short lifespans.
That being said your best best is staying away from any fridge with digital controls. Computer control boards are very expensive to repair.
The best fridges are controlled via mechanical timers. Simple, cheap to replace, and much more reliable. Technicians love these types of fridges since they're synonymous with easy work. Takes 15min to diagnose. The complicated digital ones that have multiple evaporators, sensors, and multiple control boards are a nightmare to diagnose since there's so much to check. We often know what's wrong in the first few min - we spend the rest of the hour or two checking everything else to make sure.
If you really want an ice maker don't get any door-mounted ones. They're inherently complicated machines. In some cases it's essentially a mini-freezer inside a fridge, plus a complicated feeding mechanism.
The water and ice dispenser in the door have their own issues, too. The water line, power and control cables must be fed through the hinge.
Get an ice maker that's inside the freezer section and drops into a bucket. This way it already takes advantage of the fact that it's already in the freezer. No elaborate feeding mechanism.
The biggest tip I can give you is that you're not paying for better, you're paying for more.
When you take away all the fancy stainless steel, digital screens, fancy features....the core components are the same. The same compressor, the same evaporator fan, the same cheap shelves, etc.
Go with simple, analog, and you really don't need all those fancy features.
Ever ride an 18 speed bike? Do you actually use all 18 gears or do you just use a low, medium, and high gear?
You won't believe how many angry customers I've had who bought $4000 Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, GE, etc fridges and were so angry they had yet another service call within a few months or a year. One guy was who angry he wanted to load the fridge onto his pickup and dump it in front of Best Buy.
Best of luck, and remember the salespeople aren't technicians and are just fed handouts from the manufacturers with talking points.

A full 24 hour defrost will temporarily fix the issue but it comes back later, sometimes a few weeks or a month later.

In addition, insulation that looked like calk in tube was inserted into the entire housing of the ice box. This seemed to resolve the problem of ice melting and refreezing as a result of an ice maker being installed inside of a refrigerator. So basicly, you have to be lucky enough to get a repairman who knows what needs to be done to resolve this problem permnaently. Why Samsung is not able to resolve this for all existing customers and all new unsold units is beyond me.

This is the issue mentioned in one of the comments. "there is a small, but constant leak of warm air into the colder area, causing condensate and then subsequent freezing of said condensate."
Warm air is getting into the ice box and freezing the moving parts solid. I saw a TH-cam video showing a person putting metallic tape alongside the ice box and it fixed the problem.

Samsung has come up with a fix! We dealt with an ice maker that constantly froze over and needed defrosting for 4 years. Many service calls later, Samsung shipped all the parts for the new ice maker, including the modification that prevents freeze over. The repair tech came about a week later. We have had ice for the past 8 weeks with no freeze over or dripping water from the ice maker. Recommend calling Samsung and insisting they send the free repair kit and the services of a tech at no cost to you.

I bought my 4 door in 2017 and thankfully purchased an extended warranty. My problems didn't start until 2019 when an ice dam formed and the machine stopped producing ice cubes. The first time I cleared the dam on my own but when it happened again a couple months later I called on the warranty. The fellow came in and resealed the ice unit and I worked well until early this year when the ice dams became a constant problem. The same repair man came, still on warranty and he told me that this is now a recognized issue and told me that there was a kit he had to order that would swap out parts and hopefully prevent the issue. That was about a month ago so time will tell...

@@smoke.007 Thanks a lot for explaining that. If Samsung's engineers got it right, I'd be impressed. Instead, I'd prefer the other designs that either put the ice maker and water dispenser in a side-by-side freezer section or a water dispenser inside the door of the fridge section and a separate ice maker in the bottom drawer freezer. Either is better than a frozen solid and non-functional ice maker. But again, thanks for the design lesson.

@@girthysmurfster We had a couple of LG refrigerators that had the same ice-in-the-fridge design. The first fridge had problems with the icemaker getting stuck (not iced-over, though like in this video). Our top-of-the-line 5-door Samsung refrigerator has been fixed eight times. Each time, the ice making unit had to be either repaired or replaced. Nothing worked.
We bought our fridge from Lowe’s, whose service department was first rate. However, numerous local repair services (We pretty much met them all) have told us that Samsung is a terrible company to work with, and that they do not honor their warranties.
Additional problems: shelves and shelving brackets break easily, and are very expensive to replace; user manual has many errors.

Watched this several months ago, My Samsung was one of those with major icemaker problems, Had the Geek Squad out 5 times over 3 years with no result. My fridge is a 2014 model (2021 now) Answer: thats 7 years old. I had just gotten use to defrosting every two weeks. Then I called the number listed in this story, under a week they were done and fixed it. FREE. PROBLEM, Motherboard was defrosting both freezer and fridge at same time, In 2018 Samsung changed the motherboard for two different cycle times freezer 5 minutes longer cycle time, Of course they sealed the ice unit, changed the entire ice maker even ice bin since the seal around it can also compromise the air flow.

we have had never ending problems with our Samsung Refrigerator. The ice maker has the same problem, and we have just given up using it, and we have water that collects under the deli drawer because the cooling coils inside of the fridge freezes up causing the cooling fan to hit ice buildup, and make a loud irritating noise at all hours night and day, as well as the drain freezes up where the defrosted ice is supposed to melt and drain down to a collection pan. We bought our Samsung appliances from Lowe's with extended warranty in 2013. Didn't figure the Microwave would need a long warranty just the Frige, Stove and Dishwasher. Ok well the Microwave crapped out and had at least 5 service calls while under warranty. We replaced it when the warranty was up. Our Frige is the one with the 2 Ice Makers, one in the frige and one in the Freezer. Of course the one in the frige is a problem. It worked for about a year and went out. Ice would freeze in the tray and not come out. When you have a service each one is at least two visits, one to diagnose and one to replace parts. By service call 6 we were starting to think about how to get a replacement under warranty. NOW HERE IS SOME ADVICE FOR EXTENDED WARRANTYS - Our Lowes warranty said free replacement after 4 unsuccessful service calls. BUT the small print says that if you call back for the same problem in under 30 days that call does not count. So to build up the calls needed for replacement you have to wait 30 days between repair attempts in order for them to add to the total you will eventually need. Oh and Lowe's in this case tried to change the service records to make two of the calls not count. They did have to give in when I had proof of the dates. Finally after 3 years we were given a refund. We turned off the upper ice maker and just open the freezer to get ice. I do have a collection of 5 ice maker parts and every so often I plug one in to see if anything has changed, hope springs eternal...nope!

I know. My great grandmother brought a new chest freezer around 2000 or 2001, Thanksgiving 2017 a week before it stopped working. Because grandmother only goes to the basement infrequently, she didn't realize it had stopped working between when she went shopping for the Turkey ahead of time to just a few days before Thanksgiving when she went to take the meat out to thaw. Lost probably over $100 worth of food. Before she got that new chest freezer she had a really big chest freezer that could hold a half cow or a whole pig and many more fixings as she had a husband and raised 7 kids. She got the really big freezer around 1953 or 1954 because at that time great grandpa was working for Detroit Edison and back then employees could get appliances through the company no interest and they would just take so much out of grandpa's paycheck every payday till they were paid off. And at the time she purchased the smaller freezer the old one still ran like new. She was just downsizing because she live alone after grandpa passed in 1993 and trying to be more energy conscious. Now looking back to when all thay food spoiled she wished she had kept the old freezer as it was such a quality made product, not the Chinese or Taiwan junk they shove down our throats these days. The only thing they are good for is an oversized roll of toilet paper

@FAZE JON T yeah that's exactly why I love my Fold. Trust me I have both and for me and a lot of other Fold owners no phone can replace this except for the successor. I got the Fold, S20 Ultra and Z Flip (along with the Tab S6 and stuff)

I have a Samsung model that the freezer handles keeps falling off (GE recalled theirs with the same problem) and the vegetable drawer bottom flooding and freezing.
