I worked in a dry cleaners when I was younger. Fabric care is a art! You do need these things. What I would add is a mesh flat drying rack for after you roll your sweaters in a towel reshape and lay them flat to dry. If you dry clean your clothes always take the plastic off as soon as you get home and replace the hanger. No wire hangers:)

What I find extremely useful is a bra extender. There are weeks when I gain a kilo and lose it on the following so I use the extender in the back of my bra, I don't stretch it and keep it in a good state for longer.

The one thing I do differently is to use a reusable lint brush instead of the sticky sheet-on-roller type, because it more eco-friendly. I bought mine from the Fuller Brush door-to-door vendor (remember them?) when I was 16. It’s still going strong, I’m 61 now. I’m glad I saved so much non-recyclable sticky paper sheets and rollers over the years. Also, if I need a quick clothing refresher, I use my 1:1 water:isopropyl spray, it makes a great furniture cleaner and surface sanitizer, too, so I always have a spray-bottle or two around. Many people use a vodka mixture spray, but I can’t stand the smell, I don’t drink, and think the rubbing alcohol is probably cheaper.

An item that people sometimes don't think about is a small brass suede brush. It's great for fluffing up the suede, especially where the back gets flattened from driving, or if you've gotten caught in slush or something. I got mine at my dance shop- ballroom shoes have suede soles. Having a shoe care kit is so important, especially when you start to buy better quality. Looking after higher quality things takes time!

Great tips! I do all these things at home, and something else:1) lavender in my drawers and wardrobes, in pretty little fabric bags. I love the smell of these flowers and they protect all our clothes, especially wool, keeping them safe all year round. 2) a good sewing kit for little repairs. Things can happen, even with great quality and taking good care of a little problem before it gets worse is a great habit.

I'd expand your item #10, to be a SHOE KIT. I keep in my closet on the ready to touch up my shoes. In addition to suede protectant (I use Van's canvas and suede pump spray to protect my suede. I really like the Van's product and it is not an aerosol), I have shoe brushes, rags to apply shoe polish, black, brown and neutral shoe polish, a horse hair brush to shine shoes after the polish. I also have shoe horns, some shoes are so soft, the heel clapse when you put your foot in... so the shoe horn comes in handy for many pairs of shoes to extend their use/life. Also I have light spray cleaner and rags to keep leather sneaker sole edges looking clean and crisp before or after use. I keep this shoe kit in with my shoes so I can always be sure that the small detail of pristine shoes is at hand whenever I am planning my daily outfit.
I do not have a mannequin, but I do have a hook on my closet door, I use it to hang all the pieces when planning my outfit. Can step back and evaluate the colors, etc. I wear primarily pants, so can't justif a mannequin using up my limited space. My closet door hook works perfectly for my purposes.

Cute dogs! Another fab video. I have or have had all these things (need a new travel steamer as previous one just got too old!) I would add: clear shoe/handbag balm/polish that can be used on shoes and handbags, to treat, nourish, protect. Nail files, tweezers, nail clippers, and one for toenails. I have always had a sewing kit, needle, thread, good sizzors, safety pins, and including crochet hooks for any snags. Much prefer the lint remover that is like a velcro on a handle (on one way, off the other) instead of sticky. A wooden shoe brush and a wooden clothes brush. Clear nail varnish. Optional: a pair of cotton gloves as needed to handle delicates that can snag. CEDER MOTH BALLS or equivalent, good quality moth repellant in drawers to keep cashmeres protected. From time to time, depending on the dresser, I use good quality paper scented drawer liners. I have a few shoe trees for special shoes, the half size kind that go in the front part of the shoe to keep the shape - somehow these feel more easy to handle and more feminine than whole shoe 'trees'. Love Woolite, sometimes can't find it and have purchased others...... they are ok. Voila! Merci Marie-Anne for great videos and great content. 🙏

Everything on your list is essential for me, too. I would add: my drying racks and the clothesline I put up high in my laundry room for hanging longer items to dry, and my tall laundry room fan, which cuts drying time in half, keeps clothes moving for fewer wrinkles, and I use just to freshen clothes, instead of chemical sprays. (I don’t put most clothes in my tumble dryer, but dry them flat, on hangers or my racks). Also my Magic Sizing ironing spray, it’s great for light body and so much easier to use than starch, which scorches really easily. Also, my shoe care box with polishes for every color, cleaning supplies, leather treatments, and materials for polishing and buffing. I love my clothes and accessories and enjoy taking care of them, even ironing, except when it’s hot.

These were really good and practical suggestions, Marie Anne. I have most of these already. I definitely want to try the hangers. Oh! I would add to the list a good full length mirror. IDK how many times I plan an outfit in my mind, put it on, look in the mirror and realize it's a huge faux pas.

Never leave the house without checking what you look like from behind! I even bought a full-length mirror to hang on the wall at my office. So it fell off the wall and broke. Seven years' bad luck? It sure seemed like it, starting the very weekend it broke. I bought a replacement mirror and just leaned that one against the wall.

Hi Marie Anne. I agree with you. I have everyone of those 10 items. The one extra item I find very useful and could not do without is an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. I keep mine set up in the utility room so that I can easily drop my jewelry in the basket for 2-5 minutes. My jewelry pieces look amazing after being cleaned.

Agree with everything except the lint roller. The roller leaves a residue on the fabric which attracts even more lint! Use a reusable lint brush instead (I have a chihuahua too!).

Great tips! I have been afraid to try rechargeable sweater razors as I was afraid it could grab a 'pull' and pull the sweater into itself & ruin the sweater. Now I feel confident on which one to get.

Fabulous!! Care of clothing is so important. These must haves enable the user to extend the life and look of ones clothing. One must have of mine that was not mentioned is a lit make up mirror. Using my steamer has helped me to refresh an item that became creased in my closet. Looking well groomed doesn't just happen it takes work.
    Truly loved this video.

I think boot trees are a good investment to maintain the shape of knee high boots. Keeps them from falling over in the closet as well. Excellent video as usual, Marie-Anne. I have a version of all the products you featured except the battery operated lint remover. I have a small manual hand held one I've had for years, but may purchase the one you recommend.

I changed from Woolite and Woolite Dark to products from The Laundress. They are super concentrated, smell wonderful, and do not contain harsh chemicals. They have formulas for wool, delicates, darks, etc, as well as freshening spray, wrinkle relaxers, and stain lifters. Everything I have purchased is excellent and lasts ages. And they have great sales.

I count on all of these same items as well. As a seamstress, I could not be without my excellent iron and steamers. I have the small hand held steamer for quick fixes and also a floor model for larger jobs. The hand held steamer is handy when traveling.
One item in your list that I don’t have is the silver cleaning cloth. I will be looking for one.
An item I would not be without is boot trees for my high boots. They really make a difference in maintaining the shape of the boot material. Also, I keep a box of all of my footwear care items up to date - brushes, cloths, polish, cleaning and protection sprays, etc. I can’t stand scruffy shoes or boots and with our weather it is a constant upkeep 😅

I really enjoy your videos. I have two comments. Both comments relate to prevention to damage on jewelry or clothing. For example, try not to spill food/drink on your clothing. Do not wash your hands while wearing your beautiful jewelry. Try not dry your clothes completely in the drier. I found that if I dry my clothes too much, it damages the fibers.

I have everything but the steam iron and the velvet hangers. I absolutely hate the process of having to get out and put away an ironing board. It must be put away, as I live in a studio apartment. If I had a room that could be solely dedicated to it, that would be different. I have to say, that steam iron you showed looked amazing. I am content with my hand held steamer though. I love my clothes shaver. Thank you, these were all great suggestions!

I use croché needles in different sizes to use to pull back in a snag in a sweater or knit. I just catch the snag from the inside of the garment and pull gently to the inside. It will stay there and will be invisible on the outside.
