I get that 1.5L turbo is more fuel efficient but man, it would’ve been awesome had they still kept the 2.4L k series naturally aspirated engine. My last hope is the Integra will get it as I prefer the simplicity of a naturally aspirated engine.

@@jayfuentez8334 I have the ILX with the 2.4 and the 8 speed DCT. The DCT is really good and quick to shift in sport mode. The 2.4 is also a gem of an engine. I do wish the integra comes with a N/A engine and manual.

    • @grimacemcccheese
      @grimacemcccheese 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I agree. I say keep these gems around for the Acura brand at least. The 1.5T does not sound good and is not as much fun revving out. Honda already offers a manual that makes the car fun but slower. I say keep the 2.4 to keep the fun even at the expense of fuel efficiency. I hope Honda finds some fun way to combine the old 9000rpm vtec engines with EV motors. Ev torque with gas top end (really just for the sound)

Great review Kirk! I'm glad to see that Honda has made improvements to the hatch without any major downgrades from the previous version. That trunk shade is super convenient. I use that weekly so I can fit taller groceries or access things at the back of the trunk more easily, sometimes I leave it open, other times I leave it closed. While other hatchbacks may have 20-25 cubic feet of hatch space, I think the Civic does the best job of giving customers access to all that space without forcing them to leave the privacy cover at home.

This is the first Honda in a long, long time that I've actually been interested in buying. What a thoroughly-great effort by the company I held in such high regard from the 1970s through the '90s. 'Seems like HMC is back. 'Good for you to mention pausing for the revs to drop before upshifting at high rpm, while every other reviewer just slams the shifter immediately into the next higher gear, at high revs, with no concern for damaging the transmission's synchros. If you can't upshift gently/smoothly (and rev-match downshifts), you're probably better-off with the CVT.

Around the vents, on the freaking steering wheel. Just waiting for all those fingerprints and dust. On another note, I like the Chinese market Honda Integra much more than the Civic we got and I wish our Civic looked like the Integra. I was also really looking forward to buying a Boost Blue Civic Hatchback Sport but then Honda gimped the sport trim by only giving it the 2.0L gutless NA engine when the last generation sport hatchback got the 1.5T...

When I pressed the fact that Honda has been advertising it ad-nausea, he insisted that "Honda is not going to build one of a kind..."
My one and only Honda has been a 2006 S2000. One of the things I found irritating was that Honda offered only 4 or 5 colors, and no options besides 2 or 3 dealer installed accessories. Looks like little has changed.

I got one from Lake Elsinore Honda in May MSRP $31,260 + $1,995 for the protection package which includes wheel lock trunk tray All season floor mats mud guards and paint protection. Also paid $599 for black badges and let's not forget mandatory star guard. $1, 295 total $35,149. Of course they over charge for the options but at least no brazen mark up.

KK, Liked the review. No complaints. I would Honda to offer a dual fuel system (port and direct) for any of their engines, but they do not. Or...offer port injection for all of their engines with a turbo. That is why I feel the only option for me is the 'Sport' trim of the hatchback. 6-speed standard transmission and the engine has port injection. I am avoiding direct injection at all costs due to the carbon buildup on the intake valves.

I bought a crossover (Hyundai Kona) because I want AWD, as I occasionally drive in snowy areas. Subcompact crossovers of the same price range are also shorter in general, so they are easier to park on city streets. My Kona comes with turbo and dual clutch transmission, so it’s considerably faster as well. The top trim is about the same price on both cars.

Really nice review ! I’m liking this Honda Civic Sport Touring a lot . Nothing but positive things with every review I’ve seen .
However, I’m curious about the ‘ rev hang ‘ thing here . Is this due to the turbo charged engine ? Is this an issue with the 2.0 L naturally aspirated engine as well ? I don’t understand why , if the SI is tuned or whatever to have a better synchronized “ rev match “ , with the 200hp v-tec , why couldn’t Honda just do that with this 180hp v-tec as well ? I wish they’d offer that 200hp variant as an option with the Sport and Sport Touring. It doesn’t even make sense that they would even make the same 1.5L v-tec engines with two different horsepower ratings, and we’re only talking 20 hp differences and really no difference in fuel economy on top of that !

It's hard to pick between the civic SPORTBACK or mazda 3 hatchback
Civic is practical, roomy interior and trunk, I've wanted a sport back ever since the audi a5 sportback. Nice looking interior, nice feeling/big temp knobs, wireless Android auto/ car play, wireless charger, less gloss black, good cubby areas
Mazda 3 has a nicer front facia(imo), nicer headlights/ rearlights, I personally love the knob for the info., nice looking/ better quality interior(they didn't cheap out on the rear doors like Honda, metal speaker grills, nicer steering wheel imo), automatic transmission(unlike civics cvt), nicer/ classy looking gauges (civic maybe digital, but if I can't have a full navigation map why bother)

Spinning the wheels going from 1st to 2nd has nothing to do with torque. You’re dropping the clutch when the rpms are still ~1500 rpm higher than where 2nd gear is. 1st to 2nd is a tall shift and rev hang is brutal.

15:35 Nobody cares about how well a car drives if you need to carry stuff. The sloping rear hatch is a no go if you want to do practical and adult stuff. The Civic hatch has lots of cargo room because for stuff like golf clubs, but if you want to move a dresser, bookshelf or something tall then you need a car where the roof doesn't slope into the cargo area. The whole point of a 5-door hatch is that it provides the most utility in the smallest vehicle footprint.

@northcoastcopper Few. But people like the ride height. And the many features automakers offer on crossovers that they don't for sedan and hatchbacks. Great for families. People are not going offroading but the ground clearance helps. New sedans and such have gotten ridiculously low for no reason. Older cars had much higher ground clearance. Many areas of the US have terrible roads and are not perfectly flat. A crossover is just easier to live with in that aspect. I saw all this as a dude who owns a Honda Fit. These cars are just not designed with bad roads in mind. I gotta be extra careful.
