    People without tattoos always have so much to say about tattooed people, yet tattooed people mind their business. How funny.

      LaliGirl I noticed ignorant ppl with no basic understanding for a subject, will most often be the ones with the most grandiose cluster of nonsense opinions, which they will defend to the bone. It is funny

    People overthink tattoos too much tbh, it's not that big of a deal, honestly. Anybody who has one or a few knows that you get them and no matter how much you like them, they're just... there? And you go about your day? A lot of non-tattooed people make it seem like you're going to wake up in a few years, suddenly regret the ink under your skin and cry, and stay inside and not have a life because you have this piece of art on your body. Lmfao, it's not that deep, susan.

      HS even if i for whatever reason started to regret a tattoo, i honestly feel like i wouldnt even care all that much. like eh whatever it’s not a devastating thing for me that my body isnt 100% how i want it to look.

      I have a badly done tattoo on my forearm, where I see it no matter what I do, the lines are shaky and a bit blurry and while I do sometimes have the "omg I absolutely hate it" moments most of the time it's just... there. I'm getting that retouched/corrected because I hate the lines but it's really not that giant of a deal

    • @r.m7114

      I have a bunch of shitty tattoos, and a few of them I might cover up just because they're in the way of other pieces I would like to get, but overall, while I wouldn't get them done today, they're also a part of me, you know? Getting them removed or covered up would be so strange. (Ofc I absolutely understand and support people who do want to get rid of their tattoos, though.)

    • @bedhead-studio
      @bedhead-studio 6 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      I don’t absolutely love all my tattoos. I never think about the ones I don’t love. I rarely even think about the ones I do love. I just love being tattooed and getting a new one that you love honestly makes the others seem more insignificant. I don’t really feel a sense of regret. I have always hated the way I look way more than I could ever hate a tattoo. Tattoos are the main reason I’m becoming more comfortable in my skin. It’s mine and I have control over it.

    In my opinion the only people who think "tattoos are trendy" are those who are attracted to basic/trendy types of tattoos like an infinity sign, a moon, a Hamsa, memes, single needle types of "simple" tattoos etc. Trends change, think about how popular tribal was at one point. Styles like traditional, neo traditional and realism are very unique pieces of art that will never go out of style and aren't just a trend. Just my honest opinion though. Also just because something isn't "you" anymore doesn't mean you won't want it on your body anymore, it just represents a different part of your life and a lot of people like keeping them for memories.

    • @lucyamclarenauthor
      @lucyamclarenauthor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Absolutely; people who say tattoos are just a trend literally only get tattoos because of that very reason. 🙄

      I would say tribal is also a style that will never die due to those tribes that have a youth that fight to keep those styles alive. I have a very simple tribal turtle tat because I wanted something simple and long lasting (it’s over 20 years and still good, but it’s also on my back). As for tattoos being around forever, um yeah, and we can thank the military for their resurgence and their main stay.

    • @paula92111
      @paula92111 6 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      Tip Aly I believe people who get tribal tattoos as part of their culture/heritage are not participating in a trend. I was referring more to the people who get it because they think it looks cool or badass. Nothing wrong with getting something because you like the way it looks, but when people see tribal they typically think of a 90s/early 2000s trend.

      deep blue charly actually, tattooed people are less and less of a minority in each generation! It’s been a while since I’ve done the research, but baby boomers were tattooed at a rate of about 4% and it’s gone up in increments ever since then. Millennials are about 46% tattooed (at least one) (Numbers were US based). It’s a change of the times more than anything

      At 80, people show a lot less skin anyway. So even if the tattoos blob out by then, it won't matter. 80 isn't about skin.

    • @killitwithfire5377
      @killitwithfire5377 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      to me it depends on the kind of tattoo. 99% of all tattoos dont distract at all from the face, but ive seen people with a portrait of a person or a giant skull on their chest (the cleavage area). a second face directly under your actual face is extremely distracting to me. at the end of the day a person can do what they want, the dont have to please me with the way they look

  • @ChloeCloggsHeath

    In terms of noticing someone's tattoos, firstly, we would see that as a good thing - we think they're beautiful and we've spent money on them, but secondly, I got my tattoos so that *I* would notice them, not other people - I was struggling greatly with eating disorders, body dismorphia, anxiety, depression, self hate, self harm, and suicidal thoughts, and my tattoos have helped me - I focus on my artwork rather than my physical appearance - I used to take my contact lenses out every time I got undressed so I wouldn't have to look at myself, and now I stand naked in front of the mirror, appreciating the art, and the canvas 💗

    • @LocalForestWitch111

    My philosophy for tattoos is that, if one day, I decide I dislike whatever it is, I can look back on the time when I loved it enough to have it permanently etched into my skin. People change, but that's not a reason to stop yourself from expressing something you're passionate about. And if it really bugs you that much, that's why coverups and removal exist.

  • @eden1222
    @eden1222 6 ปีที่แล้ว +260

    I mean, I'm a tattooed person and when someone tells me they could never get tattoos because they change their mind too much on clothes/fashion/taste I just say "ok, don't get a tattoo." I've stopped trying to explain to those people why I want/have tattoos and I've stopped trying to tell people that tattooing is not a trend.

    • @Leahkirby
      @Leahkirby 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      But some people do have tattoos and do regret them. Some people do have commitment issues and will regret them and it would be better they never got one. Even this girl whose talking she did a cover-up of her entire arm...do you think she would have got the original tattoo if she knew she was going to cover it up from regret?

    I’ve heard it said that if you spend all your time fretting and worrying over what ‘could’ happen or the way your life ‘might’ go then you’ll end up just siting in a corner, never going out and doing anything you truly want to do with your life.
    All I can say is PLEASE don’t live like that, you’ll be miserable before it’s over.
    Yes, maybe you will regret/ no longer love some of the tattoos you have ten to twenty years from now, but there are options to get them covered/removed. If you really struggle with it then try and come up with something you know you’ll never grow to regret; or look at it like I do.
    Maybe one day you will no longer be interested in the things your tattoos represent but you can always look upon them with fondness as they remind you of something in your life that was very important to you; events, or things, or people that shaped you as a person that you would never want to forget.

      I definitely don't agree that is for everyone. I think it's fine if some people are happier not taking that risk, especially with something as permanent as tattoos. It's honestly not for everyone.

    • @datacruncher5000
      @datacruncher5000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh absolutely it isn’t! In the end it’s something that each individual will have to decide about on their own, and sometimes that could take them a long time to figure out.
      But I do feel as though many people who really do want them don’t get them because they think about it so much that they talk themselves out of it; or they let the people close to them dictate what they choose to do with their life. It’s a scenario that I feel like happens in a lot of situations and isn’t just limited to getting tattoos.

    I'm only 3/4 of the way through the video.. however.. in my opinion I honestly think people over think about getting a tattoo to the point they put themselves off without realising?! Also yes I have a couple that I don't love anymore yet, that's what I wanted at that time and it reminds me of being 18/19.. It's like a memory book on my own skin which I love. I genuinely think people just think too hard and for too long. Example.. my mum wants one and has done for a while now but is hesitant so I'm just going to book up a date and go with her and I know she'll be so happy once she gets one.

    • @mollgrn
      @mollgrn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      100% agree with this!! I’ve known I’ve always wanted a tattoo but was so scared of committing to a design (I’ve dealt/still deal with pretty bad commitment issues in general life). Then one day an artist I liked posted about having free space to tattoo people. The next thing I knew I’d booked an appointment for 2 little tattoos. I realised whilst booking them that if I didn’t get them now, then I’d never actually get them, it’s also weirdly helped with my commitment issues in a way too. Since getting them, all I’ve been doing is drawing potential new tattoos for when I’ve got the money for them. It was such a liberating feeling getting them and having my own say in my appearance. (Woah, I wrote a lot, oops.)

    • @SilverPrincess13
      @SilverPrincess13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      LRRRN I was soooooo hesitant to get a tattoo but I just got one and I am so in love it's crazy I didn't expect that. And just like you said if I end up not liking it years down the line to me it's still be a memory of this time in my life

    • @Jessie_Bee
      @Jessie_Bee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      100% agree and that's exactly what I thought when she said you may not like a quote you got before. I was like but that just shows you how much you've grown and reminds you of that time in your life. She has such a negative perception of tattoos that she can't understand that most people who get tattoos are positive they want that on their body. Like people aren't stupid we all know tattoos are a big commitment. Why would anyone who is serious about tattoos get a tattoo that they weren't sure they wanted at the time. Even if you do change, that tattoo is still a memory of a different time, and if you were sure about getting it then, I don't really think you would regret it just because you've changed or grown as a person. You could look at it as something to show how much you've grown or to remember what your life was like then. Tattoos are kind of like a scrapbook in that way.

    • @lone6718

  • @MsK4YY
    @MsK4YY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +678

    I understand that she doesn’t want tattoos because everyone is different but it’s irritating how she’s convincing people that it’s the worst just because she almost had hers. I got my first tattoo 10 years ago when i was 19 because my mom loves tattoo and i don’t regret it at all. Sometimes i dont even remember i even have any tattoos on my arm until someone points it out! I see tattoos just custom made birthmarks. I have a palm size birthmark on my arm that my mom loves, she always tells me that it’s her reminder that she made me, she made a human, and that’s how i see mine. Tattoos are like birthmarks to me that remind me that i’m me. So if someone doesnt like tattoos then thats okay, but if someone is trying so hard to convince people it’s wrong because they think its wrong then they can fuck off lol

      I used to think of them as custom and intentional scars- but i like birthmarks so much better!
      I got mine when I was strongly dissociated from myself for much of the time, and tattoos helped me come back home to my body. My tattoos reminded me that I was me when I couldn't bear to live in my body, and while no one needs to know and understand that other than me, it blows my mind that people can be so judgmental of tattoos without knowing or caring about the different reasons people get them.

    Just to add, I think it’s funny when non tattooed people say that tattoos draw attention away from features. To me tattoos, unique dress sense, unusual hair, whatever, would draw my eye to you, and then I would be focused on you enough to notice the nice eyes or smile or whatever. Unless your strikingly beautiful I wouldn’t notice you if nothing about you stands out. Also why is this white girl dressed like a Jamaican auntie with her headscarf and dreadlocks lol.

People have always been gay and people have had tattoos for a VERY long time (as you mention), it is just being represented/shown way more in mainstream media right now. I find the "it's just trendy" argument really condescending too because strangers act like they know you better than you know yourself! And while everyone changes/grows over time, your past never changes so your tattoos will always be a representation of your life and tell your story of growth. People always like to look at the most extreme examples of bad/inappropriate/hypothetical tattoos to discredit the entire artform! Tattoo haters be like: "What if you want to be a primary school teacher in 20 years, what are you gonna do about that giant tattoo across your face that says BITCH then?" lol

      It seems really ignorant of world cultures to me to just relegate tattoos to a trend. They've existed in cultures all around the world for various reasons. It's just become a part of modern culture in various parts of the world, is all.

    My tattoos represent parts of me. No matter how many months, years, or decades pass, they will always be a part of who I am and part of what made me who I am. I think the fear/nervousness that tattoos may not truly represent them later on in life stems from a sort of shame regarding who said person regards themselves to have been.

Its like saying wearing clothes is a trend. No you can have trendy clothes but the idea of clothing itself is not.

    I got my back piece at 19. I'ts a rather large floral Elk boy. I always get asked "what if you don't like it in a few years?" and like HONESTLY... even if I'm no longer in love with it down the road, it still is a part of me. It's still part of my life story. Even if the meaning behind the Elk changes for me that doesn't erase the fact that I once WAS that flower child girl who preaches peace and love and respect for the earth. It doesn't change that my beliefs in that space of life has helped to form me into the person I am now. Life is about growth, you don't skip stage to stage it's a linear experience. So like screw it, get that cheesy instagram quote because even if it one day is no longer your life motto...it once was, and that outlook has shaped who you are now...and that's important. Its still you. Idk.
    Much love to you doll.

    I see where Elise is coming from with all of her points. When she talks about the picture on her wall I agree with you, I’m not tattooed, but if you think about it like having your ears pierced, you don’t constantly stare at your ears 24/7 and you just get use to them (I’m not saying it’s the same thing, but you know what I’m saying). When it comes to her saying tattoos are a trend I also get where she’s coming from. A lot of people are getting tattooed now and a lot of people get them on the fly because “everyone is getting them”. All together i just think Elise is just someone that shouldn’t get tattooed, some people easily decisions and those people shouldn’t get tattoos. I love tattoos I plan on getting them in the future, but I 100% understand where Elise is coming from.

      I have a couple of face piercings (eyebrow, nose, 2 lip) and I've had them for between 11 - 15 years now and I hardly notice them. I realized how second nature having them is when my boyfriend's stepdad's mom moved to town and she was like "do those hurt?" and I was confused for about 30 seconds and then she pointed to her face and I was like "oh shit" ahaha. I just completely forget they're there most of the time.
      That being said I probably could never get a tattoo. I'm not one to commit lol. The piercings I can take out (used to have my tongue done too but I took it out about a year ago bc I didn't like it anymore). Hell, I've been dating the same guy for 12 years and refuse to marry bc of my commitment issues. Lucky for me, he has commitment issues too LOL.

      I think tattoos become more “trendy” because more artists with more styles have come out. And hey some people like getting spontaneous tattoos. I don’t think you should need to think before doing something because it creates memories. But if you want to think long and hard that’s okay too ya know?

    • @ZombieWeiss
      @ZombieWeiss 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      None of it really has to be this complicated, if it's not for Elise then that's fine. Why someone feels the need to make a big speech about their thoughts on why people get them and why they shouldn't or why they don't etc always seems strange to me, do people ever get asked why they don't have tattoos? I have quite a few, 20+ over 12 years time and am not fully the same person as I was 12, 10, 5 years ago but I always WAS that person. At the end of the day it's just skin, whatever colour it is. What people do to their skin shouldn't be anyone else's concern, really.

    • @marigoldwitch
      @marigoldwitch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      ZombieWeiss I guess it's the same reason people feel the need to give a big speech about their thoughts on gay marriage, abortion, interracial relationships etc. Because people think their opinion matters to the people who are doing whatever it is they're doing lol. When realistically, someone having a negative opinion about tattoos isn't gonna make someone who has tattoos suddenly care lol.

  • @zeMusicluver

    It's always interesting to me when people say "tattoos are a trend" because they've been a part of humanity, as a whole, for such a long time.
    I mean, just off the top of my head there are culturally significant ones like Polynesian tattoos and there are/were indigenous tribes in north America that tattooed themselves to show bravery or accomplishments (and yet sometimes purely for looks; apparently women of the Apsáalooke--Crow--tribe were especially inclined to tattoo their faces!)
    And even just the later "sailor culture" of getting anchors/swallows/ships/etc.
    Tattoos have been around for as long as anyone can remember, it's just that they're becoming far more common so they seem like a trend because the people tattooed aren't from the "traditional" group of people that get tattooed--bikers, people in the punk scene, military types, etc. (I think my mother and grandmother still think of tattooed people as being inherently the "dangerous types." lol)
    The reality is that tattoos are going to being around for a long time and they already have been--whether it IS for fashionable purposes or for the more traditional ceremonial ones.

    • @iainmonks9415

      Tattoos aren't a trend, but there is currently a trend for tattoos. I'm currently having a memorial tattoo done and each session there's been a couple of people call in and say they want a tattoo but have no idea what they want!! I know I'm not going to regret my tattoo, but I can see these people getting a quick flash tattoo and then as fashions change regretting it.

    {Just a fair warning, I got a bit passionate and I rambled, so this is a long read}
    I totally respect her opinion; I really don't think tattoos are for everyone, just like not everyone likes coffee and not everyone likes Star Wars. But what does bother me is that when people who dislike tattoos try to explain why they don't like them, they always play up on old stereotypes and negative tropes. Like when she was talking about people getting their exes name tattooed and how they'll regret it in a few years when they breakup or whatever. Like, obviously getting a boyfriend or girlfriends name tattooed on you isn't really a good idea, and people in the tattooed community know that, especially in today's world. So that argument is really outdated. Along with the whole 'you'll regret them later' argument in general; as if that person can somehow see 20 years into the future anyway.
    And also that bit where she said that 'you don't know how they'll look in 15 years' (or 50, idk what she said). Actually I do. One; you have references because surprisingly there are older people in the world who have tattoos. Two; if they were done well and by a good artist, they'll probably still look pretty damn good and three; even if they're wrinkly, who the hell cares. I can get it touched up if I wanted or I can enjoy my wrinkly tattooed skin and you can enjoy your wrinkly plain skin.
    What also rubs me the wrong way about what she was saying and how she put it, was that she's clumping all the dumbasses who don't take tattoos seriously, who DO get tattoos for views (like Jake Paul, as you mentioned) and who get tattoos just because they're trendy, with the people like us who are really passionate about tattoos and who really love them and love getting them because we see them as art. Like obviously there are always going to be people who give their group (that being tattooed people) a bad name. But those people aren't the majority, they are the few. It just really pisses me off when people pick and choose and decide that EVERYONE in that group must be like those few shitheads (sorry I cuss a lot). Also I really don't think tattoos are "trendy" right now, as if they were birkenstocks or some shit. I just think they've become a lot more socially acceptable which is why there's been a surge in tattooed people, and also why they're being mistaken for a trend. And speaking of "trends", I can almost guarantee that people who are actually passionate about tattoos had been wanting to get them long before this apparent "tattoo trend" started. Also, even if tattoos were a 'trend' and they became 'uncool' at some point; who the fuck cares, if you still love your tattoos, then you still love them. I know I'm still going to love mine no matter what the world thinks of them.
    But shifting to a slightly brighter subject, I totally agree with what LRRRN said; I think a lot of people really overthink their tattoos. You should definitely think about what you're getting, so you're not getting something just on a whim. But on the opposite end, I feel like if you think about something for so long and debate about getting it for so long, you end up hating it by default because you're obsessing over it. So I totally agree that the whole 'hang it up for a few years and see if you like it' method is a shitty idea. Like if I saw a dress on ASOS or some shit, and obsessed over it for like 2 years, I would just hate it because the indecisiveness and obsession ruined it.
    And the whole 'you don't notice your tattoos' is SO TRUE. I have Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics on my outer forearms ('Is this the real life, is this just fantasy') and I always have random people, like say at the store, ask me, 'IS this the real life?' or 'Yes this is the real life.' And I'm just like...what? Because I always forget that they're there lol.
    I also hella agree that even if you get a tattoo at 18 and aren't really into it anymore at 24, it just reminds you of the person you were at that age. Like sure we change a lot as we get older, but I don't want to forget who I was when I was 18 or 20 or 23. That's why I could never see myself genuinely hating or regretting my tattoos because, again like LRRRN said, they're memories. Like I have a keyblade tattoo on my arm, and I'm not totally in love with it anymore only because it's in a style that I'm not fond of on myself (traditional) and I wish it were in a different place because I have plans for that part of my arm. But I still love it because it represents my 18 yr old self, and I remember feeling so badass after getting it (since it was my first).
    So I really don't believe the whole 'you'll regret them later' bullshit; unless you get ur exes name tattooed...then maybe.
    Anyway, if you've made it this far, you deserve an award.

    I am so glad that you made this video. I have been following Elise for a few years, and I was really offended by her video. I think that it would have been okay for her to say that she doesn't like tattoos and that she doesn't want tattoos. However, all of the other stuff she said just got more and more offensive, and was obviously being said by someone who is extremely uneducated/ignorant about tattoos.
    Nobody (okay, 99% of people) will go through the pain of tattoos just to be "trendy". People don't just get tattoos to be more popular.
    Somebody pointed out to her that if tattoos are trendy then it has been a 5000 year trend. She actually said "yes but tattoos are much different than they were 5000 years ago". I pointed out to her that EVERYTHING is different. She is a TH-camR ffs. Her followers then proceeded to get very nasty with me, and she posted another video about how mean people are being to her.
    I am extremely frustrated about this video that she posted. I think that it helps people feel justified in their hatred for tattooed people, and spreads frustrating misinformation. She refuses to even listen to reason or acknowledge that she is wrong.
    People who get tattoos aren't really going to care if they get less popular and remove them to appease strangers. >:(
    Sorry about the rant, this video of hers just really irked me. I'm just so disappointed because I have really liked this girl, and I expected her to be more tolerant and accepting.
    I agree wholeheartedly with everything that you said. This is why you are my favorite!

      I too used to watch Elise for years too, and had to stop about 5 months ago. I got so disappointed in her righteous attitude. Her hollier-than-thou, smarter-than-thou, better-all-around-than-thou attitudes made me so mad. She preached love, kindness, we’re all one, hippy love, and as her boutique did better and better, she now fights with people constantly that she always thinks she’s right and everyone else is so stupid they’re a waste of time to spend time with. She has been rude to people who come into her boutique right on camera behind their backs. They’re going to go home and watch her. What a tragedy that she would be such a mean person on purpose !!! My philosophy is that we all need to live as one because we’re all we have. Tattooed, not tattooed, working, not working, higher up or someone who cleans toilets, from Africa, Ireland, Canada, US, or married or unmarried, why should it matter. We need kindness.

I have a quote that I got tattooed on my back that says "the wolf that wins is the wolf you feed". I researched this quote for a while and it is an old Cherokee quote from a story that says there are 2 wolves inside every person. One wolf is happy, loving, kind, positive, calm etc. and the other wolf is hatred, negative, anger, sadness etc and the moral of the story is that whatever wolf you 'feed' is the one you will become. And I try to live by this on a day to day basis xo

There's a documentary on youtube called 'Color Outside the Lines' about African American tattoo artists and if you check Instagram there's darkskinskinbodyart where you can view different tattoos on dark skin and the many different tattoo artists who do quality work on dark skin.
      Good Luck! Just remeber that 1. It can definetly be done and 2. Don't settle for a cheap tattoo; your skin is too beautiful.

    Over the course of 13 years working in a job that dealt with thr public and body modifications, I found that there were 3 types of people who considered tattoos.
    First there was people who were extremely hesitant and indecisive on getting tattoos, and they rarely got them because they couldn't decide or were too stuck thinking in the future and they usually were happier without the tattoo anyways.
    Second was the opposite, with people who were too easily influenced by people in their lives and got something their friend/significant other wanted and then those are the people that regretted it. When I was talking to those people, that's when I suggested the idea of putting it on the wall for an extended period of time, and I actually had people come back to thank me for that because they weren't wanting the tattoo after a few days/weeks/months.
    And the third type of person wanting a tattoo, wants it's for their own reasons and I find they rarely are the type to have any regret on their decisions because they made the decision for themselves. This is the category that I fall into, and I love all my tattoos (even if some are cheesy or I would change placement to make better room for more). And at first I needed more time considering tattoo designs and placement but now I'm just as happy with my tattoos without as much thought.

    This girl seems nice enough and before I actually got my tattoos I thought just like her. Then I realized that I was completely overthinking it and it's really not that big of a deal. If you want something, as long as you're not harming yourself or others... Go get it. You only live once.

    I love the "live for now advice". In my 20s I just had a couple of small tattoos (ankle, back, waist). I LOVED sleeves but I was always worried about how getting bigger pieces would affect my chances for finding work in the future. In my 30s, I got over it 😎 I'm in love with the art I have on my body (full sleeve, half a sleeve, neck and clavicle tattoos) and I'll be having my hands tattooed next month. I'm all in and I couldn't be happier

    I loved what you said about not living for the future. Why worry about something you can’t control or hasn’t happened yet? That is not the way to live. I got my first tattoo recently after years of debating if I should. It’s a sunflower on my calve and i love it. Will i always? I don’t know but it means a lot to me personally and I got it for me. I’d been watching so much true crime and I had to remind myself that I don’t know where I will be tomorrow but I know where I am today and I’ll have the tattoo I’ve always been wanting. I plan to get more soon too. At 26 I just don’t have time to think about what if’s but more of what now’s. Live for you and for what others want from you. It sounds like she cares more about what others will think rather than how important it may be for her.

    Even if you do outgrow your tattoos, that doesnt mean that it was NEVER important to you, it may not be something you live by now, it’s a reminder of who you were, and where you came from. It can be a reminder of your roots.

    The only thing i agree with elise on is it does take longer to have bigger tattoos treated with tattoo removal laser. The body can't break down the ink in huge sessions so if we were removing a huge back piece (I've seen it done) we would need to do 6 seperate sections, spaced apart by a few weeks as if they were smaller pieces.

    YES! Thank you for wording everything so well. I really enjoy hearing the side of a very tattooed person, without you tearing her down. I myself am only on my first tattoo so i never know if my view/opinion weighs up against someone with a lot of tattoo's. But I agree with so much you say!! (btw, love how your rose rework pops in this vid)

    I don't really know how you define "regret," but my tattoo has caused me to avoid swimming pools, spas, massages, tank tops, low-back blouses or dresses, and it has been a serious point of hesitation when it comes to intimacy for the past 10 years. It is not only hideous, but filled with bad memories of an abusive person in my past. I feel like I've missed out on a lot of my youth because I have literally not felt comfortable in my own skin.
    That said, I am in the process of getting it lasered (Which yes, is far more physically painful than I remember the original tattoo being), and am planning on getting a big beautiful back piece to go over the faded portion remaining. I feel like my confidence is right around the corner and it feels so free.
    I have just recently found your channel, and I want to thank you for doing what you do. You're not only informative, but inspiring!

    The biggest thing I notice with commentators like the blonde girl is that they often confuse personal preference with a solid opinion about how other people should live their lives.
    Even if someone DOES make all the potential mistakes she lists and really ends up regretting a tattoo... why do you care?! No-one is asking you to do it, too.
    Her reasons for not wanting tattoos are completely valid -for her-, but why they would extend to everyone else I have no clue.

  • @ally526
    @ally526 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I adore people who have never had tattoos or laser removal telling others how "painful" something is. I have a small tattoo that needs a few laser sessions before I have a coverup. It is (in my humble opinion) MUCH LESS painful than getting a tattoo. I may have a superhuman pain tolerance or it just truly may feel like a pinch at each area being lasered. Laser is a highly safe and effective way to remove/ lighten most tattoos over time with the help of your lymphatic system. I hope people will eventually stop stigmatizing people for getting and having tattoos and then further inducing unnecessary fear when they may desire laser treatment for whatever reason. Ultimately, our skin is what we inhabit in this lifetime, nothing more. That said, there is quite a lot to be learned about a person's life and soul from the tattoos they choose to have.

I didn't agree with pretty much anything she says in this video but I still appreciate how heavily she emphasised that it was her opinion and I don't think she would have made this video had people not asked her so much haha

    When she says she doesn't like how tattoos draw the attention away from the features, I see that as a negative outlook. To me and many others, that's why you get them in the first place. They make you feel better about your features and parts of your body that would otherwise make you feel insecure. If it gives you confidence in your body, that's priceless, whatever anyone else says.

    everything you said in this video was so spot on. Tattoos really aren’t all that serious, I’m actually in the process of getting one tattoo removed and another re-worked. If you end up regretting a tattoo then there are ways to change them/“fix” them, just because its a permanent decision does not mean that its the end of the world if you end up regretting them.

    my grandpa got a really nice dragon tattoo way back when he was about 20. its faded allot and is a bit patchy now but he still loves it all the same, even though its not in the same style that hed get a tattoo in now if he ever decided to get a second. its an important memory for him and he has a huge respect for tattoo artists and he loves going into the history of tattoing. one of his good friends is covered head to toe in tattoos, like theres little skin left bare, hes 60 and he hasnt regretted a single part of his tatto journey. he loves how he looks to this day. tattoos arent for everyone but it annoys me so much when people try to push their anti tattoo agenda on everyone. tattoos can bring so much happiness and confidence to people

    Even if a tattoo doesn’t apply to how you currently are, it’s still a representation of your story and what you’ve overcome. Your past is still a part of you. I see them as reminders to never forget what you’ve been through. But, to each their own :)

    I really appreciate your mature attitude regarding her opinion vs. your opinion. You handled the subjects that she brought up with respect for her beliefs and still expressed your point of view. Funny, my last tattoo was eleven years ago, about the time that you started getting yours. My reasons for stopping were economic and now I am ready financially to resume. I've been watching different channels in order to bring myself back up to speed and I've found a lot of enjoyment out of your posts. So much has changed and the quality of what's out there is so much better. Its an exciting time to be able to start again. I've always been of the school of thinking about the next one for years before actually doing it, but have been coming around to the mindset that it's not as necessary now. I would say for someone getting his or her first tattoo that he or she should spend some extra time making sure that what's in mind is really right for that person, but once a person has found that tattoos are something he or she enjoys, then it becomes less important to spend years planning and waiting.

    So I'm getting my first tattoo in a little over a week. And her comment on quotes struck a chord with me. I understand not getting a tattoo the second you have the idea but saying "What if you don't like the quote in a couple of years?" is just mean. I've wanted this poem quote since high school and now I'm in university. But we shouldn't be so worried about not liking a quote in a couple years because even if you stop living by it, it was still apart of your life. It shows your life progression and, as you said, so long as the quote isn't cheesy it's likely you'll like it in a few years time.

    I think both of you hold valid opinions because the experience of getting/having a tattoo is subjective. I think both of you hit on subjects that are valid for certain people/personality types. Either way, good on the both of you for speaking out your opinions!
    However, I definitely understand Elise's point about tattoos being distracting. I kept staring at your beautiful rose instead of your face!

    As someone who has booked their first tattoo, a lot of this girls' points just seem like personal reasons SHE wouldn't get a tattoo. As far as getting a tattoo "just to be trendy," like yeah that's just a typical human thing with every trend that's ever existed, that's not exclusively a tattoo problem.

    I think that most people without tattoos believe it’s a much bigger deal than it is, hence why they fear regret. Once you have a few tattoos you realize it’s really not a big deal and that you won’t regret them as long as they’re done well and you like them aesthetically.

    I know this is a super old video but I’m binging your channel because I have an upcoming session.
    Anyway. I say this with all the kindness and compassion in my heart, not to be ugly or ANYTHING. But as someone with generalized anxiety disorder... I recognize a lot of the traits in Elise. Having to think about every single worst case scenario.... over analyzing every single decision... the inability to make a decision without input from others (hence her making the video in the first place...) are all signs pointing to some kind of anxiety disorder.
    Like I said, I don’t say this with any ill intentions, I could be totally off base and out of line... but as someone who’s diagnosed with GAD and takes medication and sees a therapist regularly... not every single decision has to be this huge of a deal.
    Yes tattoos are a big decision and permanent (debatable) but if this kind of thinking seeps into other areas of her life I sincerely hope she can overcome that and live a little less anxiously and live more in the moment.

    I knew I wanted tattoos when I was 9,after seeing a man in a swimming pool with pretty much his whole torso tattooed,including full arm sleeves and being fascinated by him.This was in the very early 90's before tattoos,especially on women were a 'trend'.I was desperate for my first tattoo at 14(luckily I waited)which was in the late 90's again before multiple tattoos on women were a thing,so Elise is totally off by saying people get tattoos because they are a 'trend'.I understand it's just her view and I'm totally fine with it 🙂

    I absolutely love my tattoos. I got 5 tattoos (3 are small and 2 are medium size) in 4 months a year ago. They are all parts of me and I've never thought of them any other way. When I see them I get lit up and I want to show them to all the people of this planet, because they are amazing and they are me in a way. Most of the time I forget that they are there and sometimes I get very scared when I look at the wrong place and can't find my tattoo (I always find it in the end, but still). And I know I worked hard to get them. Even though I didn't earn money myself I've experienced the pain (so much bright colors, so much handpoke) and every second that lead up to the moment of me looking at my tattoo in the mirror was worth it. I don't care what other people say, because that's the way I am and I am the one who has tattoos, not you.

    I don’t have any tattoos, for various reasons, but I love looking at other people’s tattoos.
    As a teen, many of my friends were getting tattoos. I told them I was just too random and different from day to day to get a tattoo. My style and view points were changing so often that I couldn’t do something permanent. Not to mention much of my family thinks tattoos are sinful. My mom never would have signed off on me having a tattoo and I didn’t want to fight with the people I was living with.
    Now, I can see the ideas, artwork, themes, etc that have stuck with me. I know who I am and have learned how to accept my past. Instead of hating anything that I used to like or be, I instead see how I’ve grown and how those things got me to this point and how those old interests have developed. So if I got a tattoo now, I feel like I could love it and look on it fondly for life.
