    I'm the girl with the ganesh tattoo. took no offense to you saying it looks better now because i feel 100000% the same way. The smoke was actually grey all along- the fresh picture was literally only an house after it was done so that part was pink from irritation. Loved seeing everyone's healed tattoos years later and how different styles and colors hold up.

    Tattoo aging is probably the only thing that scares me a bit about getting more tattoos. I overthink the timing aspect of getting them because I’m not sure if I’ll like it if they’re all aging at different rates (but I sure as heck can’t afford to get them in quick succession! Lol) When I got my watercolor forearm tattoo, my artist explained to me that the key to having watercolor tattoos hold is to shade the design in black first and then put color over that shading. She also heavily encouraged me to put bits of black outline around the basic shape to anchor the design and not rely solely on the color to define the shape. A year later and it still looks super fresh, but even before I got it done I had come to terms with the idea that I will most likely have to have it heavily touched up at some point in the distant future. To me it’s worth it!

    The dog tattoo is aging like fine wine, very nice. Anyways, I think it would be very helpful if you included brown skin with tattoos. The lack of that is the main reason I haven’t found subscribing necessary. The information you provide is helpful but not always for those with darker skin.🤗

    I feel like black tattoos turn green, gray or blue toned has something to do with our skin undertone, grayish for neutral, blue for cool toned and green for warm tone skin. Could be totally wrong but seems logical, our skin "grows" on top of the tatto over time, my tatto is only a year and a half and I definitely notice a tint, like a veil, it isn't as black as it used to be

    • @hyde1893
      @hyde1893 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    • @ViCTiMoFouRSoCieTY
      @ViCTiMoFouRSoCieTY 6 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      The blue and green tones often, not always, come from old/bad ink, which isn't used as much today gladly. Modern inks don't have heavy metals in them (which contribute to the greenish undertones when black tattoos age). But I do notice that my black tattoos get greyish with time, because as you said skin grows over it :D

    • @orionodegard6469

      Depends on the brand of ink as well, I have three slightly different shades of black in the tattoos on one arm because the artists all used different inks. It’s not a super obvious difference in color but it’s noticeable in good light

    • @elenabeatricemartinelli8426
      @elenabeatricemartinelli8426 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it also depends on what pigments the ink is made of. like with alcoholic markers, if you spray them with alcohol you get different shades at once. think of black for example: you get bluer ones, browner ones etc.

    This has nothing to do with aging tattoos but since I'm on a tattoo channel and the people here seem to be nice I just wanted to share my little story: Right now I have one tattoo on my chest (Something like a heart) and I was kinda afraid to show it to my father because he is not a big fan of tattoos (Even though he has one). This August my father passed away and I never got the chance to show him or tell him about my tattoo and to be honest it kills me. When I look at my tattoo it always reminds me of my dead father.

  • @XysGynx

    Most of these fresh pictures are taken right after the tattoo was made (in some of these, like 13:05 it is very noticeable that the picture was taken right after the tattoo was made), without waiting for the first few days for the scrubs to shed. In those few days, the tattoos lose a lot of colour (it's the normal process), so this is why I don't think that the comparison is accurate. You could make a comparison between a tattoo right after it was made, and the same tattoo a week later, and you would see a huge difference in colours fading.

    The yellow in your skull tattoo is wild! I'm in love with Jessica Penfold's tattoo style and colour palette but I was wary about getting a colour piece because the rest of my pieces are black linework. I love mixing styles so it's not that aspect I was worried about, I was always put off because I was told that colour will always fade faster and i thought the investment wouldn't hold up as well next to the black linework. **not a tattoo artist, but been being tattooed for 10 years and many friends that are tattoo artists. This is just my understanding of it.** Black is a very dark other color. Black is not really "a color" so it depends on the ink that the artist uses as to which color it fades to have a slight hue of. Most of the black ink in my tattoos tend to have a faded green tone to it. I am cool skin toned. Blacks, I believe, are very dark blues, greens and purples.

    I would love to show you my first tattoo. I got it in color (purple) and very small lines (the artist did not want to do it lol). To no surprise it doesnt look anything like it did when I first got it. I also have brown skin so Im sure that didnt help.

    I have a realism tattoo on my ribs and I've shown another tattoo artist and he was amazed how well it aged. He said that he thinks ribs tattoo is a good place for tattoos to age as they won't blur out or lose pigment. As I can see with the Ganesh tattoo in this video, this seems to agree with his theory. It was interesting to see another style than mine but the same placement and I agree with you, it still looks pretty good even maybe better now!

    How often can you get tattoos touched up? I had a quite small tattoo with a lot of detail done 4 years ago. The colors and even the black have faded a lot so I would love to get a touch up. But since it‘s a small tattoo i‘m scared that the lines will get thicker because of the touch up and take away a lot of the detail. I‘m also scared that if I get it touched up now I won’t be able to get it touched up in some years because it might just cause to much trauma/scaring to the skin going over it several times. (Hope that makes sense) Would be so great full for an answer.

    for anyone curious, the reason why black tattoos fade to either a blue-black or a green-black, its because black isn't a colour, its a shade of other colours, so your black tattoo, in reality is just incredibly dark blue or green, hope you find this helpful xx

      A lot of people don't get that all colors have a blue or yellow base. Like the base notes in perfume, the longer you wear it the more apparent that base is gonna be. 🙂

    I am 18 years old and I am thinking about getting a tatoo for quite some time. I really like your channel because it shows how many different tatoo styles and possibilties exist. I always thought of blackwork tatoos to be the major and most common tatoo style and I am absolutly amazed by all the colours you can actually use in your tatoo.
    I'm really fascinated about the idea of getting a traditional/neo-traditional tatoo, but I am too afraid of how the tatoo could age and that I won't like it anymore when starts to fade/blur out/settle in. Do you have any advice for me?
    (Sorry for the bad English, I am not a native speaker)

    • @ratbeach
      @ratbeach 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the same concerns. My best advice is try to make sure the whole tattoo is exposed to the sun or none of it is. Tattoos that stay out of the sun stay vibrant -- I've had my first ones for almost 30 years and they're almost as bright as when they were inked.
      I think tattoos look good whether they stay covered up or get sunfaded. The ones that are half still vibrant/ half faded look bad!

    • @ashdavis9697

      They look brighter because shaving takes off the layer of dead skin with the hair. Plus there are no fuzzies over the top - shaving is like wiping the dust off of something, in that it looks brighter clean. Exfoliating will have a similar effect. Exfoliate then moisturize to have a healed tattoo looking it's best and brightest :)

    The tattoo at 17:54 is actually a design / painting from the artist Audrey Kawasaki her ig is @audkawa
    That's kind of shitty that whoever that tattoo artist was agreed to tattoo, someone elses work on that woman's skin. The artist basically stole Audreys work.

He warned me it’d fade without line work. Next time I’m feeling adventurous I’ll get it touched up! Maybe see if I can add line work this time that’d be fun 🙂

      It really depends on your skin type how fast a colour fades. Mine for example is a yellowish olive kind of skin type. Because of that yellow nearly doesn't fade at all on my skin! But blue fades to green unfortunately :(

    Great video (as always!).... Greetings from a fan from Greece! I got 2 questions (from your experience): 1) do colour or black and grey tattoos age better? And 2) considering that a tattoo artist cannot estimate the money for a certain piece (and is rather rude to ask) how do the client get an idea about the cost of his tattoos? I mean, how do you now how much money you got to "spend"?

    • @camarim299
