    As an artist (not a tattoo artist, just a regular degular illustrator) I tend to prefer very tiny, fine lines in my work. I have to admit that it kind of fuels my nightmares to think if anyone would get single needle tattoos based off of my work. It hasn't happened often, but when I do get asked to design tattoos I always, always stress that I will do a base design but the client needs to listen to their tattoo artist and be ready to have changes made based on what the actual expert says. And if I don't think someone will do that, I let them know that I'm not comfortable designing for them.
    I LOVE these tiny, intricate lines. that's why I gravitate towards them. But I just. Knowing how badly they blow out and blur, I sometimes get Very Stressed about the idea of contributing to that, laughs.

    • @caden926
      @caden926 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      I’m the very opposite. Although I’m not a professional artist, i still draw a lot of illustrations, and I just can’t do little delicate lines. I love thick bold line work, idk why

    i have a 7 year old fine line tattoo on my forearm that looks just as detailed as when i got it. while i have a 3 year old normal tattoo on my side/ribs that looks blurred. so it’s not necessarily the case that fine line will blur. i think it just depends on where you get the tattoo, skin health, and how much you can protect the skin.

      Find an artist and look for good healed portfolios. Im workin front desk at a tattoo shop that specializes in single needle tattoos. They can design something intended to heal and age well. Not anyone can properly tattoo something so fine.
      Do your own research, and talk to a few artists.
      Ive got traditional pieces with large, thick lines. And single line pieces. The single lines are my favorites and have healed the best.

      Our knowledge of single needle tattoos has improved drastically from even just a few years ago. Don’t discount a style just because someone told you that it won’t last. There are many artists who stand by their single needle tattoos (there are also many uneducated artists) but if a single needle tattoo is done properly it will have the staying power. Technology has come a long way!

    Lol @treacle tatts could you look at the buzzfeed video that is titled something along the lines of “I cover up my embarrassing 2000s tattoos”. It features the same tattoo artist, and I must say you might just get entertained by the final design of the coverup. It was SO BAD. Nobody spoil it!!

    When you were saying watching was making you want another tattoo.. honestly same. I found your channel when I was waiting the 4 months till I could afford my next tattoo and your channel just made me want the time to pass faster with all the tattoo videos you review. Finally got it done Wednesday. I think I’ve become an addict because I’m already trying to figure out my next one.

    When I saw this video, as an artist and a tattoo enthusiast myself (I may not have many, but I have done my research over the years), it made me cringe. Not during the whole video, but I cringed. I am very curious how these will look in like two years. Especially after seeing that coverup bird aged (I saw when she first got the bird). With that one, Jesus take the wheel.
    I definitely wanted to address what you said about color helping hide shaky lines. From personal experience I agree. My very first tattoo consists of a set of six angel wings, and a couple of the feathers in them have slightly shakier line work. The gray wash in my tattoo does help camouflage that even though I'm aware it's there. Am I mad at that? No. Like you said, the artists are human. They aren't perfect. And this may be me, but I actually like the slightly shakier areas. I feel like it falls in line with the idea of real feathers. And yes, this video makes me want a new tattoo. Even tho I just got one 2 weeks ago.
    As for single needle tattoos, they just aren't my style. I like a bold designs, whether the style is traditional, Japanese, new school, etc.

    Hi! I had a single needle tattoo made a year ago, and I think it is healing nicely. At least for now. The white highlights are gone, and I can see that the lines are a little thicker, especially in the eyes and beak, but the rest is looking fine, and I'm still really happy with it. It's a penguin on my ancle 😊

    I have a fine line tattoo on my arm, but it takes up most of the backside of my upper arm so I feel that the sizing my artist chose definitely helped it stand healing. It's just over a year old now and still looks pretty amazing! Any little blurring is barely noticeable because of the space my artist left in. Definitely would get another as long as it was bigger and spacey 😂

    I have a honest question about this tattoo style. Can the aging issues be handled with semi regular/ maintenance touch ups? Or is it that once line work has gone softer it cannot be effectively cleaned up?

    • @jackystar5099
      @jackystar5099 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best thing to do is have good spacing between the lines. Some artists are very good at single needle tattoos and their work ages well. So doing extensive research for this style is a must. If your tattoo blows out too much there's not much you can do to save it.

    I actually took a one needle tattoo almost 10 years a go. My tattooist told me, its gona look shit in 5 years and he was wrong. It took less time. It says "Life is waiting for the one who loves to live" and now its a black blob. So I'll have a cover up with large stamp over it.

    I had a single needle tattoo which contained a bunch of details, though sadly over the last year, has blurred out a lot. Regarding the cover up:
    Recently I was looking to get a rose tattoo behind my ear. The artist said she wouldn’t do it due to the skin in that area. She recommended some kind of a bolder tattoo e.g. a symbol rather than something fine and delicate like a rose because the skin behind the ear couldn’t hold the ink very well and all the lines would eventually blur.

    Another reason why the cover up might be so extremely blown is because at that exact point is a lymph nodes which is part of the imune system. Scientific researchers have found out that the tattoo ink will be transported into the lymph nodes. Maybe it is so blown out because there is one of thouse directly near to it and it is a single needle tattoo

    i think it’s unfortunate that single needle tattoos became such a trend. yes they look nice when they are first done, but the only photos people ever see is when they are fresh. i think the popularity of single needle tattoos has caused people who would have never been drawn to tattoos to go blow a fat bag on a tattoo that won’t even last.

      I researched my artist and he's very well known. So i figured heeey let's do it. Little did i know that tattoos always fade... I just figured only bad tattoos faded ... So yeah i've got a single needle one lol... Only 6months healed. Still looks nice but im already dreading it disappearing since it has such a personal meaning haha. My own fault 🙄🤣🤣
