    I've never understood people spending $500 on a purse, but then wanting a cheap tattoo. If there is ever a time to invest, it is on something that will be on you body forever.

    • @haleyg8387
      @haleyg8387 5 ปีที่แล้ว +50

      Shan Especially when $150 can usually get you a fairly great smaller tattoo. Why get a shitty free-$60 tattoo when you could save a little from a few paychecks and get something beautiful instead of an ugly faded blob.

    • @likjohn56
      @likjohn56 5 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      I try explaining that to my friends all the time. However, they aren’t tattooed so of course they don’t get it. I’d much rather spend good money on a tattoo and buy cute cheap clothing and accessories.

      What if I'm the person who buys cheap everything? Thrift clothes. The cheapest rent with still being in a nice house. And getting takeout Chinese when I don't want to cook.

    • @shan4580
      @shan4580 5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@VictoriaMorganawesometori I think living frugally is a great thing (especially thrifting as it also lessens the impact on the environment) but if ever there is a time to save up and splurge a bit, it is on something that will be worn on the body 24 hours a day, that is going to wear over time (so do research on the artist and how their tattoos age.)

If you want to learn to tattoo for a video (which is questionable anyway maybe), do it on an orange or pumpkin skin and get someone who is actually a tattoo artist show you how. And also have the artist do a little PSA/discussion “don’t try this at home kids” type thing about the health and safety issues.

      Ppl call them gauges when really a gauge is just the unit of measurement, the term for the jewelry depends on what it is. Like plugs and eyelets.

      To the people asking what to call gauges: plugs or eyelets are the actual jewelry that you wear in the stretched piercing. As other people have mentioned the gauge is the measurement of size of the jewelry, same thing in the medical field of needle gauges.

      Not really. The operation is nothing alike. And I both work with tattoo guns and machines as well as sewing with machines and pens.
      It's more like my air brush set up. Theres the compressor/machine that's the main part and most pricey/intergal part THEN there's nozzle/end/tool that you use to create stuff.
      The machine is what sits beside/below you while the gun/tool/nozzle is what you ACTUALLY use.
      Sewing machines are one big stationary machine that you place your medium INTO and you move the medium NOT the machine. Sewing pens/styluses are mini portable sewing machine shaped like a pen that you use to sew by moving the PEN around.
      So yeah even in sewing the machines shaped pens/styluses AREN'T called machines and in things like airbrushing it is referred to as a gun/nozzle NOT a machine with the thing with the engine that makes it work being called the machine/compressor.
      It's a tattoo gun and machine. The part used to inject the ink is a tattoo needle. All together it's a tattoo set-up. And the place it SHOULD be done is a tattoo studio/parlor.

    I'm not trying to be negative about LaurDIY as a person, but it's just irresponsible. The videos she watched had to have been from scratchers bc actual professional artists don't go out of their way to teach how to tattoo or set up tattoo machines. That's what apprenticeship is for. The most I've seen from professional artists is just filming themselves tattooing and vaguely describing their techniques.

    When I was 14, I actually tattooed myself with a sewing needle and pen ink on my hand (yeah, I really went in for the most stupid spot for a first tattoo). Used make up wipes and a lighter to "sanitize" the skin and needle. It's a wonder I didn't get an infection, and I am very lucky to have "tattooed" too faint, so it faded after time.
    Now at 22 I have five professionally done tattoos, and I am happy that I survived my stupid stunt without any scarring or other problems. And to see a youtuber encouraging that kind of behaviour is really scary! I am glad for these tattoo etiquette videos, because there is so much to learn about the culture of tattooing, especially in a time where you find so much wrong or dishonest information online.
    When my friends ask about the tattoos, they are almost always shocked how much aftercare goes into them, and that I actually prepared a bag with snacks and stuff, when I got one. Tattoos are so easily available, and often handled badly by the "owner" and then heal badly or get sun damaged, etc. And people like Lauren get a bad reputation just because they are tattooed, and people think it's irresponsible, because they have only seen bad examples of tattoo owners! *sigh*

    I’m sorry, but if she’s only got three tattoos, what did you expect? I mean, she seems like a sweet enough person but I wouldn’t put it past these types of TH-camrs to do something like this. It just goes to show how uneducated people are about tattooing, and that’s why we need more channels that discuss this subject. Tattoo etiquette is a subject we need to really understand, as well as tattooing overall. Like seriously, how do people not see that this sort of thing isn’t a great idea if you’re not trained to be a tattoo artist? (Personally I think it’s just a lack of common sense.)

They’re not the actors tattoos but the character. So like in Divergent, the characters had tattoos. Or in the 100, I’ve seen people copy Lexa’s (a character) back tattoo.

I even corrected myself in front of my long time tattoo artist, but he honestly said it didn't bother him either way. It didn't bother any of the tattoo artists I go to. I think that the term is just so widely accepted in the USA that many tattoo artists have given up on correcting people, or just learned not to care. That being said, the tattoo artists do call them 'tattoo machines'.
