I always find it telling when one side of an argument provides maths and formulas and experiments that you can easily reproduce with consistent outcomes, and the other side shouts "nuh-uh" and calls you an idiot.
Name calling and tantrums versus math and very easy to follow geometry.

As a new viewer, I really appreciate the level of detail you provide when debunking flat earth claims. It leaves no room for dispute, while also being educational. This in contrast to some other channels who spend most of their time scoffing, with only a few words of explanation. You're sort of a milder version of Professor Dave, who I find highly entertaining, but his arrogant mean streak isn't ideal.

the laser is supposedly travelling through a vacuum that's adjacent to a pressurized system, without a solid physical barrier separating the two (violating the second law of thermodynamics), therefore he is reifying the moons distance.
perhaps the moon is bouncing off the solid firmament that NASA admit exists and have mapped out with high altitude nuclear testing? could that be what it is 'bouncing' off of instead of the light in the sky that we can't verify it's shape/size/solidity

What baffles me most about flat earthers is how complicated their explanations for everything are. If the earth was in fact flat, it would be so blatantly obvious to see that it wouldn't need that much explanation.

I did a lesson with my second graders in a bilingual school and told them there are people like Jokely here... their response was hilarious. They laughed for a good 10 minutes before I could start the lesson properly. They came up with many good points of why they are wrong before going through my points... which shows that 7/ 8 year-olds are smarter than flat earthers...

I was so proud of them when they were pointing out some points! First was the boats going over the horizon. Another kid said I can't see the Burj Khalifa so how is it flat. Best lesson I've ever had the pleasure of teaching!

I'm completely convinced you could drive a flat earther to cape Canaveral, put them inside a rocket, take them into outer space, let them space walk.
And they would in turn up and say that you drugged, hypnotized, put them in an hologram room or something else.
Which ofcourse would be correct.
Right after seeing the globe earth, they'd wake up in a hospital having a terrible headache.
That would be "proof" that they were drugged.
What really happened.... they opened a windows to prove that:
- the windows are really screens. And you can see the flat earth, icewall and dome.
- there is no pressure gradient, so space-vacuum does not exist.
... and passed out 10 second later.
There are 2 types of flat earthers;
A) A person who has been fooled into legitimately believing the Earth is flat. They would at least acknowledge there is cause for doubt after reaching the south pole or circling the earth, etc. They would also immediately be discredited and disowned by the flat earth community especially the Type B's following this.
B) A con artist who knows exactly what they are doing and are using this platform for personal gain at the expense of all the type A's. They will actively reject any attempt to put them in a position where such a compromising situation could occur, or simply deny it all after the fact.
I think we all know which type this guy is.

Ohey, I didn't expect to see myself in this video. I know exactly what Nathan will say if he goes over this video, he will mention how I said "we don't expect to see the geometric horizon," a few years ago while ignoring the fact that I said "we don't see geometry."
Hence why I generally ignore Nathan now, unless someone else makes a video on him. If he's still flerfing about in 5 years, I can guarantee he'll bring up the same quote whenever I'm mentioned.

NASA could take Nathan in a rocket around the earth, then round the moon, land and return, Nathan would still not believe, and deny his own eyes, I suspect something else is going on with Nathan, some deep seated resentment or mental anguish guides Nathan through his life and beliefs, or he is just thick.
Nathan, I was in the Air Force... and when confronted by someone who refuses to accept proven information, methods, and processes over and over again, we have a simple expression, "You can't fix stupid."

What Dave does here is show you why what we observe - when we look at it properly (aka doing science) bears out the fact that the heliocentric globe model is correct, despite what Nathan might try and suggest. But like Torq suggests, keep an open mind and read a book. Brian Cox' '"Universal" does a good job of explaining why we know what we know.

It's not about being an idiot. They forgot step 2 of being a good skeptic: allow your understanding to evolve when presented with sufficient evidence. But they never do. They refuse to be anything other than correct, because they have it in their heads that everyone in the world is out to get them.
If they were actually skeptical, they'd be skeptical of flat earth claims, and would be trying to debunk them (which is fairly easy). They aren't skeptical. They apparently (yep, there's that word again!) just like thinking they are smart, so glom onto ideas that they think they understand, never questioning them.

I really appreciate this presentation style that avoids ridicule and actually tests the FE models and explains how they fail. It’s the the kind of style that’s more likely to persuade.
Unfortunately, persuasion relies on a modicum of willingness to accept logic and facts. When you're dealing with the kind of mentality similar to (and sometimes hand-in-hand with) "God did it" there is no persuasion to be had. It's a lost cause for some, the rest will wake up by themselves given enough time so we may as well just laugh at them.

If they're convinced by a calmly delivered, informative and friendly style, they'll claim that they needed that because they were too proud to admit they were wrong otherwise and so on.
Theres no rhyme, reason, right or wrong. Studies have shown that no style is more likely to persuade, no style is more successful than another, and the method of delivery doesn't seem to many any difference. It's solely on the person hearing it. That's it.
It's a harsh truth because it basically means all attempts to help them are pointless unless they happen to be in the right mood for it that day.

On a separate note, over the course of the month, there is a slight wobble that allows us to see about 59% of the moon's surface. if we can see more than half, and at all times the moon looks 'round' for all directions/perspectives, then it has to be a 3D sphere. It cannot be 'flat', it can ONLY be a sphere.

Look up "Stereoscope photos Moon". Photographers taking photos of the moon a few months apart makes use of the Moons Libration and gives a very 3D view (some better than others). If you have a VR head set (or similar) they work really well. If not, but you can cross your eyes well, then copy the image, crop and save the two halves separately, swap their positions and display side by side on a screen and cross your eyes. You will have two flat images flanking a beautiful 3D image in the middle :) The Moon looks like a ball stuck on a black background. :)

I found this video really hard to watch, because that flat earther was just far too obnoxious. It was unpleasant to sit through, even in short bursts and knowing that he was going to be debunked moments later.

@@jjevans1693 Yes, that's where you start generating predictions. "This model explains things we know and it says this thing we don't know should be X". If thing we don't know turns out to be X, it is a strong point in favour of the model. If it is Z, it means the model is wrong somehow.

There’s no ongoing research into this since it’s a matter that have been settled since centuries. Actual astrophysics research is a couple of ballparks further ahead.

I still to this day don't understand what's the actual end goal of a flat earther? There's nothing they are proposing, like a model, that makes better predictions or anything of the sort. If anything anytime they come up with some kind of model to explain a specific phenomenon. It just reveals even more problems that require even more unlikely explanations. Like how they try to explain seasons. A sun that controls it's revolution speed and size is somehow more plausible than a spinning globe earth?

I asked one, one time, what the purpose is of convincing all of us that the world is round... "Power and control" was the response after a lot of ad hominems.
My quite natural response was "What power and control do they get by me thinking the Earth is round versus thinking it is flat? What would I do differently knowing the world was flat?"

It’s probably perhaps that they are scared of being alone in space. Afterall, Earth is the only planet we know of with life.

A couple of observations about Nathan... He seems to think that as soon as you use the word "apparent", whatever you're discussing is somehow "only" apparant and therefore not real. What he doesn't get is that we describe things as they appear to us, but we don't confuse them with what they actually are... So, stars "appear" to traverse the sky but in reality it is the Earth which is rotating, the Moon appears to be a circle, but we can confirm (by your explanations and the fact we have actually BEEN there!) that it is in fact a sphere. What Nathan seeks to do is to immediately debunk anything that "appears" to us as an "apparition", therefore not real and therefore not evidence.
The other observation about how you need "R" for the Earth if it is in fact a sphere (not to determine the distance to the Moon) and we don't have a definitive value for it because of the "black swan" (refraction changing the apparent distance to the horizon), therefore the Earth cannot be a sphere. All he has done is to provide evidence that the value of "R" changes IF we use the apparent (there's that word again) distance to the horizon to calculate it. Of course that's not the only way to calculate it, and the analogy I use is that Nathan is saying because we can't accurately measure the radius of an elephant's body for whatever reason, the elephant doesn't actually exist.
Nathan is a nasty, violent, and foul mouthed bully, but above all he is a fool.
Nathan simply has a few meaningless catch-terms he shouts and then pretends he's done or said something somewhere that wins him the point.
What he cant do is win a point of argument in front of anyone. Only the people who are thinkers can see that.

Even putting all the overwhelming amount of scientific data we have aside...just *looking* at pictures of the moon you can tell it's spherical. It seems their entire premise for a flat earth model is based on observations we make with our eyes and "common sense" so it baffles me why they can't see the sphere.
as a trained observer, and writing reports in a way to convey to the reader critical points first with all other points in supplemental annexes, i remember there were soldiers who just did not get the training. they could shoot an azimuth but could not articulate that information from a map to a report. they did not have the mental acuity to do the task. i think flat earth are missing that element everyone else has to see and understand the world around you.
I'm just waiting for flat earthers to discover non-euclidean space.
