I used to think this whole "flat earth" thing is just one of those Internet jokes where trolls are pretending that earth is flat, you would think this joke is only staying on Internet. Until I came to know that there are people out there who actually believe that earth is flat and conduct conferences for it from time to time. What's worse is these people even bring their children into these places and brainwashing their mind since childhood.

The contrast between the two groups is staggering.
The scientists consistently come from a place of curiosity, sincere exploration of facts, and willingness to hear others out.
In contrast, the other three individuals constantly framed themselves as victims of some (unclearly defined) persecution; repeatedly going on about how they are being silenced, and lied to, and attacked for their "knowledge".
If I knew absolutely nothing about the Earth's shape, and I saw this video, I would absolutely side with the scientists based on this interaction alone. The conspiracy theorists have such an intense air of smug arrogance to them, that I wouldn't be inclined to believe anything they have to say.
Anyone who claims to know everything on a subject, but refuses to listen to what others have to say about it, has instantly revealed themselves to be an unreliable source of information.

Basically like all extremist conspiracy theorists. And some "science backed" activists as well (for example those who block roads and glue themselves to the pavement).
@@avadheshmalik; I think I follow what you mean. However, Climate Change is a scientifically proven problem. The misguided actions of some protestors doesn't change that.
I think it's important to be able to separate the message from the messenger in cases like that. Some activists definitely take things pretty far, but that doesn't mean the issue isn't real.
Additionally, it's my understanding that several of those people were found to have been hired by the very organizations they were supposedly protesting. Big companies, like those who trade in Oil, have a lot to gain from making their opponents look foolish and unreasonable.
At certain points in the video i think th scientist lost their cool and did the same offensive tactics understandable though
Shellys "flat-earth" journey was brought about from grief. She misses her husband and following this just brings him back for her.
That's a bit rude to say. We can't know the complexity of her grief or her coping journey, so it is extremely rude and presumptuous to claim she believes the Earth is flat because her husband doubted the Moon landing.
While I can understand your thought process, I do disagree with it.

So assuming she copes with the death of her husband by believing the Earth is flat is also rude. Though it could be considered insulting, I don't think it inherently is, but it certainly is rude.

As a Christian who understands the world is a globe, this was mind boggling to watch.
But bible talks about a local sun and a firmament ( down). That means solar system doesn’t exist

As for the sun, it is never explicitly stated, nor is it originally called a firmament at all, but raki'a, which just means "expansion". It denotes the space or expanse like an arch appearing immediately above us. They who rendered raki'a by firmamentum regarded it as a solid body or concept. The term itself merely refers to the sky, and not a direct firmament.

true, and if It's wasn't for the curvature of the globe/earth, why would you not be able to see the opposite side of the globe standing horizontally still on even ground instead of being met with the end of the sky? Wouldn't the Sky just be a flat surface across with vast stretching planes of land? The history of Christianity contradicts your statement. We can infer from said history that the church REALLY despises being put into question, and that any sort of scepticism or uncertainty as to the veracity of Christian teachings is tantamount to a crime against humanity. Only when the church realized that it could no longer control and contain the flow of information did it start preaching about tolerance, and now its naive followers can claim "science was born from Christianity", because the church has washed their hands clean of their disgusting and repulsive history.

Every single time the scientists go to prove something he stops it. This could have been used to spread truth and help deal with misconceptions and misinformation but everytime the "flat-earthers" find themselves in a pickle its always "let's take a break".
Exactly, they create chaos by saying nonsense when the debate is beginning to get anywhere so that there can be an excuse to take a break and then we never get back to that topic again..

I don’t see a problem in labeling yourself based on your passions as opposed to your occupation. The scientists happen to have a career and passion that are one in the same. I cut grass for a living but I would call myself a musician before I called myself a lawn guy.

I love how respectful the scientists were while also being firm on their stance. Also I took a lot out of this. Its so easy to want to listen to people who have such conviction and passion about a topic or idea and even we ourselves can get "gut feelings" about something that are absolutely wrong. Just shows the importance of staying humble and listening to yourself before listening to anybody else. You are the only person capable of deciding what you believe.
Conspiracy theorists remind me of Alfred in Batman's quote: "Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn."

if you listen to her reason why she became a flat earther you can clearly see that her shift in belief was deeply linked to her loss of her husband who had that "truther" mindset, she needs to believe in that idea as it helps her feel as if she is following in her dead husbands foot steps, its an emotional link for her and that's sad. she needs therapy.
