  • The Storm Giants are a chapter that boasts a physical strength superior to that of other Astartes. Is this due to a simple gene-seed mutation or something else entirely?

    Alright Warsmith time: From a purely theoretical perspective we can consider that since the original base-stock of the Salamanders shows a 90% potential mutation rate it would make sense that Apothecaries from said chapters would do everything within their power to make certain the aspirants are able to A. survive the procedures B. continue to function and not devolve into howling monstrosities.
    Since the Black Dragons modify their organs, and since we have confirmation that Primaris Black Dragons still posses, bone blades, poison fangs, and cranial crests/horns. We can easily determine that it is not so much gene-seed damage, as much as it is purely a weaponized form of stable mutations.
    This, also allows us to build a functional theoretical, if the Storm Giants see a value in keeping a mutated organ functional, they would likely induce said mutations in order to enhance the chances of further victories.

    Vulkan was (Physically) the strongest of all Primarchs, so it would stand to reason that his "sons" are also at least a little bit stronger than other Astartes. That said, a mutation that enhances a quirk already present within the geneseed is absolutely reasonable.

    • @zc8211
      @zc8211 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      antigesum how exactly did he push it? Fellblades weigh 300-ish tons IIRC (though that could be wrong). The manner in which he pushed it could change a lot about how impressive this feat is. to give us a point of comparison, real world strongmen have pulled planes weighing 188.8 tons. I’d expect a regular, run of the mill astartes to be able to manage several times that *at least*. However, of course the plane was pulled, not pushed, and had wheels, not tracks, so it isn’t a perfect comparison. Was the fellblade he pushed still upright on its tracks? Was it knocked to its side? What terrain was it on? I really don’t see any of the primarchs, even the relatively weak ones, struggling to move a fellblade, unless there was something making it really extra difficult

The government has capitulated before them and were arrested in camps but some of curzes soldier werent' t satisfied with this arrangment so they tried to get some blood and trophies. So itcame to that emergency that the people try to get away from them pushing away fences etc even push to death, vulkan noticed this und from afar und that none of the marines/astras millitarum react so he run down the hill crashed into the fellblade blocking one of the entrances/exit and pushed him aside that the people can exit the camp and wouldnt be pushed todeath from the one after them. If it was slippery ground or anything else cant remember. But it was discribed that even vulkan came to his limits in this action even parts of his armor broke apart.

    My hypothesis: the Emperor, knowing that gene-seed could not be made immutable, somehow set up the gene sequences in such a way that variations would become stable and would likely be a boon in combat. This is a natural variation. They're not submitting their gene-seed to Mars because it's their gene-seed, and they're not giving up any more than absolutely necessary.

    Here's something this video made me curious about, which might make for a good future topic: Have any loyalist chapters ever actually been purged over having gene-seed that was deemed "too impure?" I remember hearing that Sanguinius was concerned about such a thing happening to the Blood Angels if the Emperor ever found out about their red thirst, and that he implied that something similar might be related to the loss of one or both of the lost legions, but I've never heard of it happening anywhere in the admittedly somewhat light fluff-reading I've been doing.

    Question is the Imperium of man the mirror image of the Skaven Underempire. This is put in question due to the skaven having similar government structures to the Imperium including the council of thirteen which is practically a mirror image of the high lords of terra. And the Emperor and the Great Horned Rat are also similar due to them largely being inactive in the history of their races only ever acting or having significance in times of great conflict and dire situation for their children races. Along with very similar organizations. Such as the Adeptus Mechanicus being a mirror organization to clan Skyre. While the ecclesicary is a mirror image of The Gray Seers and Clan Pestilens. The Astra Militarum is also a mirror image of Clan Mors for being the main overall military force of their respective empires. The officio assassinorum is a mirror image of Clan Eshin for they are both the assassin of their empires. Clan Moulder is the Mirror image of the Adeptus Astartes for their creation of Rat Ogres and the Stormfiends widely argued as skaven space marines for their advanced armor and weaponry and strength and speed. And finally the inquisition and the Adeptus arbites are the mirror image of the gray seers due to their power, the fact they only follow the Great Horned Rat and that they are the only keeping any semblance of order in the under empire despite that literally being impossible.

    I theorized they’re descended from the Iron Hands. I believe they manipulated their gene seed to become stronger in radical response to the rest of their chapter (and successors) focusing on strength-by-machine rather than what their primarch Ferrus intended, strength-by-flesh. Their symbol reminds me of the Clan Vurgaan symbol, of the Iron Hands. Their name, Storm Giants, could be a reference to the Storm Giants that Ferrus fought on Medusa or it could be a shoot-off from the Legion’s first name, Storm Walkers. The old Iron Hands and Medusans really do like storm motifs. Also, Ferrus Manus focused on the aspect of strength above anything else, this is even revealed in how he forged. He doesn’t make something with beauty or aesthetic in mind, only it’s functionality. He believed that humanity and his sons should improve their strength above all else, and supplant those who were weaker by forcing them out of positions of power within the Legion.

    Take note that the Emperor's thunder warriors are superior in strenght, size and physical durability and hardiness than astartes. Also notice how the Thunder warriors were referred to as the Thunder Giants as shown in the novel "The Last Church on Terra". I know that such a thing may sound coincedental in terms of the names Thunder Giants and Storm giants being similar, but they are most similar in terms of physical attributes.
    You must also acknowledge that the surviving Thunder Warriors in the Outcast Dead were able to stop their genetic degredation using space marine geneseed. Perhaps the Storm giants were founded upon the surviving Thunder Warriors in the story, the adeptus mechanicus using both the creation methods of thunder warriors and astartes to create the Storm Giants chapter.

    My first thought is that the Storm Giants might be descended from the Death Guard.
    My second thought is that the Storm Giants have an experimental geneseed, like the chapters from the 21st founding. Perhaps a chimeric mix of Salamander and Death Guard geneseed. Perhaps they have have a bit Thunder Warrior or Custodes in their geenseed. They might be one of the experiments leading up to the creation of the Primaris geneseed.
    Either way, the high lords of Terra, the Adeptus Mechanicus maintainers of the geneseed tithe, and perhaps the Inquisition, would know the secret. This would explain the lack of any official action against the Storm Giants, and these groups and the chapter itself would want to keep the secret from other parts of the Imperial bureacracy - like random Adeptus Mechanicus researchers.

    Are there Astartes chapters that have no genetic connection
    to the Emperor at all? Two possible sources of these types of chapters are:
    First, the warp, created for whatever reason the warp could
    come up with. The source may or may not be ruinous powers.
    Second, a future society might try to reinforce the Emperor.
    This may or may not be humanity, but someone who wishes to influence the past.

    There is also a possibility if only a really slight one.
    That the Storm Giants are the decendands of either the 2nd or 11th Legion.
    In the short story " The Chamber at the end of memory " its revealed that both the lost legions where officially disbanded and their Primarchs punished,
    but that the Legionaires themselves are deemed innocent by both Guilliman and Dorn - with both arguing heaivly to spare the soldiers.
    This resulted in primarily the Imperial Fist and Ultramarines adopting the 2nd and 11th legionaires as their own,
    with impliation that the other Legions may have been receiving a few companies aswell.
    Given that all Legions have one or more inherent inbuild strengths
    ( World Eaters and Sons of Horus being inherentily more direct and agressive , Imperial Fist having an near instictive understanding about defensive work and vice versa the Iron Warriors for Siege craft, the Word Bearers a beyond religiouse loyality to what ever they tie themselves in etc etc )
    it would make sense having a Legion that has its theme be strenght, where for example the Emperors Children and Raven Guards theme is grace and agility

    What do I think ? You ask Mr. Arch ....well , I think that the Storm Giants Chapter went in their early history to Terra to see if they could figure out their genetic heritage and sure enough .... they didn’t. While there three of their neophytes from the scout squads decided to try ,after a failed attempt to meet with lords of Terra, to use their sneaky scout stealth and follow one of the Lords staff officers to find a rumored hidden library.They did it was not however a library of books, it was of ancient artifacts. The neophytes took any and all artifacts that seemed to contain information. One of them being a black rectangular box that was labeled and of course the label was scribbled over and a second “Heretical “ label placed over the corner of the box. One of the long yet narrow sides of the box appeared to have a push button operated hinged lid or side when opened there was a mirrored tape displayed. So the neophytes decided they needed to get the items they found back to their chapter home world and let the tech-marine, and librarian try deciphering the items to find out where they came from as a chapter and more importantly.... Who their primogeniture Primarch is ! ...... They didn’t, what they did discover was what would become the key to their abnormal strength ! That of course being the black rectangular object marked “Heretical” The true name being discovered as “ Booty Bootcamp 2 !” The key and the only thing of note brought back by the Scouts .... This singular thing changed the chapter for ever ! .... and ever .... and stuff ....

    Is there any possibility of the enhanced strength coming from unsanctioned alterations to their power armor rather than their geneseed? I mean, for them to flat out deny the petition to study them could be more out of concern over how quickly the Mechanicis would notice tinkered power armor than anything else. Plus we already know how big a taboo it is to change anything from the templates.

    • @kenju2268
      @kenju2268 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Gormathius Thanks :) The idea came from how many suspect them to be a successor chapter of the Salamanders (which to be fair does make mutation of the geneseed plausible as well). Given how the Salamanders are the undisputed master craftsmen of the Space Marines, it wasn't that big a leap in logic to imagine them doing field repairs or upgrades to their armor due to having an affinity for crafting. Now, this would make the armor stronger, but it would also be extremely easy to prove since the specs for power armor are rather well known by this point. If they were to be investigated, just as a formality their gear would get spot checked, and, well, yeah.

    Question and this might have been asked before. But what would happen with a gene seed directly from the emperor himself?

  • @trolldrool
    @trolldrool 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why does it have to be directly related to the gene-seed? Perhaps they are using unsanctioned cybernetic enhancements based on Xenos technology. The gene-seed might be the most vital component in the creation of an Astartes, but it isn't the only possible factor in every abnormality found in a chapter's marines. As for why the use of technology would make the chapter hesitant to share their gene-seed with the Adeptus Mechanicus, there could be any number of reasons from seeing the request as a personal insult to the honour and integrity of the chapter or a flaw in the gene-seed unrelated to their strength. I know I'm just speculating here, but I don't want other possibilities to go unmentioned.
