In my opinion, the reason why the Demon Realm still exists and hasn’t been erased by Zeno is to serve as a point of comparison with mortal development. The Demon Realm could be at level 0, providing a baseline against which the development of other universes can be measured.
The fact that gods, kaioshins are from demon realm means that demon realm is at a higher level than mortal realm where zeno rules. Meanjng that zeno has no administration of demon realm so he cảnt erase it
I think i just learned alot about Daoism and Alchemy in this video. Thanks Jordan! please make more videos about Daoism and alchemy in the scope of Dragon Ball because this video was truly insightful and i will try sharing it.
The Moro Saga in the DBS Manga was amazingly Peak and the Concept behind "Chi vs Magic" is what the Majin Buu Saga should've been in the first place back in DBZ (likely due to Editorial Issues), It's cool that Daima is going to Re-Explore that Idea again where the Majin Buu Saga couldn't Achieve and alongside the Demon Realm Concept as well.
I trust everything Jordan says bc it always ends up true in some shape or form. He was talking about Gohans demon connections before we even knew it was demons that unlocked his potential
In my opinion I think magic will take the place of ki in terms of universal energy, and ki will remain an internal energy thing, largely because Magic seems to already have a good and evil duality hinted at with the mention of white magic in the pilot, very exited to see this power system expanded EDIT: love those titles 1:06
Great video! Ive been thinking about how to answer the question between Ki and Magic, since most of DB has basically treated it as a derivative or subset of Dao. I still think its too early especially with the little we know about Neva, White/Black Magic and the condition of the Demons in their realm, but im glad you mentioned the Taoist 3 treasures as thats what i was thinking when i checked the Daoism section of philosophy. Toriyama is definitely pulling from this, and hopefully we find out by the end of Daima. Great video bud, definitely one of your best yet!
Just giving context for the yin-yang symbol. Contrarily to Western belief it is the dark park of the symbol that represents light and goodness (its also represents males weirdly enough, dunno why the Asians decided that was a thing). And that the white part of the yin-yang is suppose to represent darkness and evil (and is the female counterpart).
I always figured that Magic wasn’t something necessarily separate from Ki, but more like a specific or branching application. Cuz it always seems like Magic could be used to manipulate Ki, but Ki could also be used to resist or fight against Magic. This video put really well to words what I was wondering/ coming to know as is. Yeah I wouldn’t say that magic is inherently evil, bc some of the first hints of magic we see are from the Namekians, like Dende’s healing abilities, or his and Kami’s ability to make Dragon Balls. I do love the consistent way that magic is described as a fake or at least MUTATIVE influence. We know the original Namek of Earth became corrupted by the natural evils of Earth. So he split himself, and extreme form of purification. That’s how we got Kami and Piccolo Sr. It stands to reason that Piccolo really is more of a demon in that sense, as while he still has Namek biology, he is quite literally an embodiment of evil for Kami. So this would explain why his children look so mutated compared to other Nameks.
I see ki as internal energy in living things with multiple aspects described in interviews of right mindedness courage and genki or lifeforce where was magic is kinda of a cheating way to control/bend the laws to create different effects which are usually inherent to magical races eg nameks with dragon balls
We see a lot of villains using magic to supplement their chi, draining chi from others or using others to fight in their stead, but I'd like to see more characters who use chi to supplement their magic, empowering their magic with their own power. Exploring the difference between using magic to make your will manifest in the world around you, and just doing the same thing but with brute force where might makes right.
The Genki Dama isn't magic; it's a ki manipulation technique similar to the Spirit Fission that Vegeta and the Yardratians use. Also, Yin and Yang are both forms of ki. Just as there is pure god ki (Yang), there's the demonic aura of Demon King Piccolo and his clan of demons (Yin). There's also the distinction between white and black magic mentioned in the first episode of Daima. If both ki and magic have their own light and dark sides, then why would they be the light/dark side of one another?
Broly and Gohan using magic transform. Maybe the moon was just one way to get Oozaru etc that could work. The moon gives off life energy believed by Chinese culture. The sun absorb energy which is probably why we haven't seen a great ape in daytime. The tail could be an amplifier for this. So maybe the saiyans can still use this form but will look more human like without a tail Beast Gohan white magic and Ikari Broly Black magic and ssj 4 with a tail a more ape like appearance.
A more human oozaru form u say? Maybe... ssj4! I hope they keep the formula to achieve it like in GT. Putting further context into it just makes it make more sense. A saiyan's Oozaru form, balanced with their ssj form, should give us ssj4. Maybe change the name to ssj Prime.
This is a really interesting look into dragonball’s power systems! It has more depth than I ever thought Edit: huh, I never considered the idea that Super Saiyan is effectively a result of a Saiyan acting as a true warrior instead of relying on their “warrior race” abilities. That actually makes Golden Freeza a more interesting parallel, with golden light being representative in Dragonball with cultivated inner power!
Deity fusion is also a part of the esoteric Taoistand Buddhist alchemy. Basically all shonen anime is a nod to these real practices. Yuyuhakusho for example after yusuke mastered spirit energy of good nature he then went back down to embrace and master demon energy for a perfect balance of forces. ☯️ Up and down left and right hot and cold are not seperate just merely different degrees of the same thing. There is good in man but there is evil. Man is not evil. It’s the ideas he accepts and the actions he chooses that are evil or good etc.
This video is fantastic! 1:47 glad you brought up Genki Dama. I was sure wondering if because it draws on external ki, if it was magic? If it was, it'd be white magic then? 4:00 So you referenced Gas and Moro basically combining Ki and Magic. Did Boo do this too? His candy beam is clearly magic. But the Kamehameha he used was clearly ki. Also about Gas, is that also what Dabra did when he made the sword against Gohan and the spear against Boo? 10:55 I wish we had a chart depicting this breakdown. Yin & Yang, white & black magic, essence, spirit, ki, Yuki, shoki, genki, and anything else db uses as "energy". 16:00 So UI is based in magic? Also, Shin seemingly can't sense ki in Daima. But in dbs he can clearly sense God ki. Am i missing something? Him not sensing ki makes his Pocus hype not such a big deal, but it takes away from his Boo hype and his Vegetto Blue hype up as well doesn't it?
This also make sense if consider the Shadow Dragon arc in dragon balls in GT, since they were made up of selfish wishes turning the white made magic made balls to black magic due to their wishes
I do wonder how ghosts and vengeful spirits fall into this, seeing how they aren't exactly alive Is a martial artist's ability to sense chi the same as a mystic being able to sense and interact with ghosts? I em aware that this is very much a Shinto concept, rather than a Taoist or Buddhist one, but there has been mutual influence in these areas.
Can you do me the biggest personal favor and do like a full breakdown on Jiren and as soon as possible? I saw the other one But like how you break down goku is overcoming ego and vegeta is the ego I'm beyond interested to hear a full explanation of how you interpret jiren Because jiren isn't egotistical he isn't technically evil or even technically selfish He also isn't like a character like broly's rage form like he's just in control and I wonder how that fits in to martial arts principles So I'd love a full breakdown video please please please as soon as possible
Please please please please lol I don't know how long it takes you to make these videos but like if I had a wish I'd wish for it uploaded sometime this weekend I really want to see it Again please please please
I disagree about the spirit bomb being magic. The spirit bomb is literally the Lifeforce of those that are willing to give it up that would be considered ki/chi genki. It’s extrinsic energy for the user But it is not a source of energy outside of the fundamental laws of physics which is what magic is defined as, as the energy that is used to create the spirit bomb is internal energy from other beings given to the person that’s wielding the spirit bomb
I love dragon ball and the other series but i was always wondering why isn't there qigong technqiues in the show? They use ki or chi alot but don't do any practices to cultivate Qi. PS daoist information is incredible the more you practice/look into it.
Does that give an explanation of why the humans didn't learn kio ken? Piccolo was just being a stubborn jerk didn't want to learn nothing from no one? Or did they all learn a variation suitable for their specific biology?
