I think the issue with the 3-episode rule is that it only applies to certain shows. Nowadays, most anime production falls apart halfway into the season due to industry standards, so if your show is just mindless garbage, then more likely than not it will fall apart even if it passed the rule. Good animation and action can only last you so long, so having a good story and characters helps.

the CGI suits look like they were introduced in order to cut down on costs which probably got mostly spent on those good first three episodes, which does seem to be a scummy habit in the anime industry now. I definitely don't blame the animators, though. I can imagine they had to do the normal backbreaking work that goes into animating fights like this but it's possible studios higher ups didn't want to risk spending so much money on an anime only like this. Of course this is just speculation but it def feels like a bait and switch thing. CGI fights can definitely be good as seen with things like early RWBY or land of the lustrous but the dull vibe of the plot kinda implies to me that not a lot of care was put into anything else other than ensuring people watch the well animated first 3 episodes with a chance to sunken-cost fallacy into watching the rest of it.
I heard ( via twitter and TH-cam) it was because they only had 1 good animator ( he supposedly worked on jujitsu kaisen season 1 fight scenes ) who could make the fights good and he couldn’t do them all alone and be on time for the anime’s scheduled release so they used cgi to stay on time and created the monstrosity we know now
I gave Ninja Kamui a BIG chance after the first three episodes, then was solely disappointed by the 5th episode......I've never seen any show drop the ball THIS bad
I think the issue with the fight scenes is just the artistic constraints. Studios today are still working to shift to using UE5, if they're ever planning to. I don't know how the whole animation thing is done, but the fact that the dip happens consistently to other animes that uses CGI, it seems a good hypothesis to use as a reason for the 'why'.
I've pushed through the first 4 episodes, and gotta say I mostly agree with all your criticism. But for me the lackluster story and characters were harder to look over.
Subscribed off this video alone. I couldn’t describe how each bit of information you gave was so utterly true. I was so excited for this show and I got hooked off of just episode one just to have episode 5-6 to roll around and make me genuinely think I starting watching the wrong show
You can imagine the whiplash i got from watching episode 3 then going onto episode 4. I legit thought i skipped an episode because it felt like it skipped some more fights and moments before getting to the Anzu base. Then you add the mechs and i had a feeling that the anime jumped the shark. I clinged on to hope but stopped after episode 5. Such wasted potential.
Since they introduce the weird ass mech suits I immediately drooled cuz it veered so far away from the ninja aspect it set up in the beginning. And I'm so glad I dropped it from what I've been hearing
My partner and I were so bored with it that we fell asleep on the couch and we both woke up about 2 hours later with it still playing. There was some big fight scene happening and neither one of us cared to rewind. It was like biting into a beautiful pie that's filled with sawdust.
I found it extremely hard to keep up with the first few action scenes. The opening is the only fight I appreciated but this story is also mild and u don't really care for anyone
9:00, I feel like many anime and manga have the "too many damn characters" issue, and honestly, most would do to have around 20-30% of the cast fused into other characters resulting in a smaller cast that's more impactful and memorable.
I love seven deadly sins, it’s such a good show. If they kept the same studio then it would’ve became one of the best series out there, but is was cut short because of studio change

This Anime started so good... but in the second half turned into a completely different show and it was ruined. The whole thing about Ninja's and their Ninja arts and "the code", was pointless. When the Cybernetic armor suits came out it changed into a completely different show. Then they reveal Emma is also a Ninja, changing her into a completely different character, and after that, they kill her in the dumbest way for no apparent reason. Why even have her in the first place. 7 episodes of a character that leads to absolutely nothing.
I totally agree. 1st 2 episode I was so hooked and even shared with my friends...however on episode 5 I was now like eish wish I didn't share this anima, its sooooo bad now.
When I finished this series, I thought about it and realized I had the same feelings about “The Matrix Resurrections” - dissatisfaction and then indifference. Had me at the start though.
I love body mechs but only 2 anime have ever done it correctly, code Geass, and another that I forgot the name of but it was basically a virus that gave them body mechs and they were crazy and the MC was just a guy that couldn't walk after a racing accident and wanted to race again
I started it and was so excited during the first 3 episodes. I remember seeing the mechs and telling my junior bro I don’t like the introduction of those suits. Totally threw me off
The thing that killed it for me was the mech-suits. Those mech suits and abilities have nothing to do with ninjas, it didn't matter how much the design was inspired by Ninjas and Samurais. They just changed the theme of the show. I was introduced to super strong ninjas, but then half-way through the show they become useless without the suits. The chick literally said it that the suits are just better. I just dropped it.
The Fable has the expecations to even a non-combat anime about a man who can do the best looking combat but fights it everyday during his vacation as a pro merc. It's actually really good and doesn't do too much with a mature version of slice of life.

Kaiju No. 8 is on a different level, likable main character and insane fights + great story. Solo Leveling is a hit as well with awesome fights. Both these anime will get better and crazier in season 2. As for Ninja Kamui, the second they introduced the mechs, I dropped the anime. It's funny because, I think Kaiju No 8 is kind of a mech anime in a weird way :)))
I love the beginning episodes I thought it was fucking dope. I tried to hang on for the rest of it but every time I tried to watch it I kept falling asleep. It definitely took me by complete surprise when they introduced all the mech suits
I must have an 8 episode grace period, because I keep dropping anime at episode 8. It’s kinda tough though because I’m almost done with the standard 12 episode a season, but I can’t be bothered to finish them
The Show had something going for it in the First Episode but later on, I do agree that the Mechs fighting each other was pretty bad and focusing on multiple characters got kinda confusing because this Series is about the Main Character wanting Revenge for his family being murdered
Seems like studios figured out the 3 ep rule... now the only thing we gotta do is keep moving the goalpost until the studios are forced to make every episode really fucking good. 4 episode rule dropping rn.
Watching this video reminds me that actually i didn't drop this show & watched it until the end. The problem is.. I totally forgot about it, i have no any recollection of the last episode 😅

They didn’t drop the ball. They fucking threw it.
@@ruwhite6312they popped the ball
Me: Yes! The final fight is going to be without the suits!
*Final Fight is with the suits
Me: Nooo!!!
If even Tsuda Kenjiro couldn't save it... then i dont know what could've save it
I think the issue with the fight scenes is just the artistic constraints.
I was so excited for this show and I got hooked off of just episode one just to have episode 5-6 to roll around and make me genuinely think I starting watching the wrong show
Holy smokes, a random ToekneeTalks video appears in my feed! Hyped for this!!!
This show is like giving a chatgpt prompt on a cool ninja anime and then it just took it in a completely different direction
Ahahahaha no
@@crazymage5316 right now the have a sequel going, the wouldn’t have if nobody watched it. It had good characters and a great world
@@monsterhunter4life975 i meant it being good.
@@crazymage5316 bro shut up it’s a good show, your hating for zero reason except, “seven deadly frames🤓
@@monsterhunter4life975 nah all the pdo and grooming stuff creepy
fully agree, i think i gave up caring after ep 5 or 6 so i never saw the end
Steins;Gate *and* Monster mentioned?! I knew you were one of my favorite creators for a reason. Just gotta mention NGE now. 😛
Ninja Kamui is better than these 2
Steins;Gate and Monster are leagues above Evangelion imo.
@@Gundam-Primeyeah. Evangelion is good at all. But those two..are something else.
I didn't knew you had a secondary anime channel, heck, I didn't even knew you liked anime! Instant subscribed uncle Tony. I want more. What is more, is there a chance to see you do blind let's plays? That would be really neat
Honestly speaking
I couldn't get over ep 8 and thank u for wrapping it all up for me. Ama tell my bois that I watched all of it . 😂😂😂
Thanks man for making this video, I even decided to make a video like this on my own, if I didnt find a video like this, but I am lucky I found this, thanks a lot man
I agree with everything other than the characters part. I wish they made it a bit longer to get more info on the side characters
Hey man, Takt didn’t go bad till like the last few eps, and that’s because they were constrained by the game doing things
2:40 that parkour movie was good imo
Agree
They should've used Cyberpunk implants or high tech ninja tools instead of suits and the anime could've been somewhat decent
if we apply the 3 episode rule towards One piece then One Piece gets good after the first 275 episodes
It's like the ultimate warrior. Super hype rushing towards the ring, after he's gas out
Yup. Episode 1 blew me away. I quit by ep 3. I didn't even make it to the mechs, lol.
The move to 3d CGI was a colossal wallop of elephant dump.... I was livid
Kamui? Watch the OG. Dagger of Kamui, 1985.
I haven't watched it since then, and I still remember it.
14:58 that was a hilarious example
Ninja Kamui was like the anime adaptation of John Wick. It had so much potential (the downfall must be studied)
I still had hope when the mech suits popped up but the fights just grinded to a halt afterwards. I don't even understand why.
Ninja Kamui first 3 episodes were AMAZING. And then it went off of a cliff and continued to free fall until the end.
When I finished this series, I thought about it and realized I had the same feelings about “The Matrix Resurrections” - dissatisfaction and then indifference. Had me at the start though.
For me it'll always be the Friendship Blast™️at the end of Soul Eater
So much buildup, man. I thought there was just gonna be...more.
How do you spell the good show he mentioned in the beginning ? Freeren ?
What's the name of site that ranks the popularity of an anime?
Myanimelist
The introduction of mechs just made me go, "yeah, this is going to turn bad from here on out "
The Fable has the expecations to even a non-combat anime about a man who can do the best looking combat but fights it everyday during his vacation as a pro merc. It's actually really good and doesn't do too much with a mature version of slice of life.
This sounds like when my nephew, who's a year older than me, complained about DBZ once they created all the post SS2 forms. I agree with you on this show.
Wasnt expecting a band i actually listen to, to be in an anime opening.
I actually did a double take when you said coldrain.
The thing is, a robot ninja fight could be really cool. A fast paced showdown with each fighter landing blows that would be fatal if not for the robot suit. The problem is everything is so fucking slow that it makes it seem like a kid playing with bionicles
ninja kamui had so much potential loved the idea and concept in the first couple episodes but once the bots came in i hated it
I had hopes for ninja kamui. When they rolled in the cyber suits. I was sorely disappointed.
Honestly, if they hadn't given the protag a suit as well, I think it would have been ok.
How can we get you to watch Thunderbolt Fantasy?
Brother , I just saw the latesr Shangri La Frontier and I WAS SCREAMING MY LUNGS OUT , NOOOOO FUCKIN NOOOOOO, WHY THE FUUUUUUUKKKKKK
BURNING OUT DOESNT MEAN DOING THAT
ACTUALLY FUKKIN CRAZY
I put it on Hiatus when I watched the first robo fight and it looks like I should make that a permanent one. Thanks!
the only show where the 3 ep rule didnt work for me was ergo proxy, it infact takes abt 7 eps to get good and my god after watching it, i was left with a sweet memory and a longing for a season 2
Thoughts on watching the first 3 episodes and then just not watching the rest of it?
I watched and finished it. I don't regret it. Flashbacks that were interesting and kept me engaged. It wasn't that bad.
I love the beginning episodes I thought it was fucking dope. I tried to hang on for the rest of it but every time I tried to watch it I kept falling asleep. It definitely took me by complete surprise when they introduced all the mech suits
For me it was that Kaiju 8 which descented from ep 2 or 3.. still haven't finished it..maybe one day
“How to ruin an anime” without even watching the promised neverland INSTANTLY pops up in my head
By the third episode I was thinking this could be a top 5 action anime. That thought faded fairly quickly.
The moment the suits came in I knew the lost it.
Should have just kept it at ninja techniques and skill only.
The introduction of mechs killed this anime along with how basic the story turn out to be and how fast it moved.
Seems like studios figured out the 3 ep rule... now the only thing we gotta do is keep moving the goalpost until the studios are forced to make every episode really fucking good. 4 episode rule dropping rn.
By the fanart too
I out my guy on this. My guy, who doesn’t like Anime loved the beginning. I felt like I really really messed up.
As soon as they revealed the mech for the mc I was out. It legit looks like an apex legends cut scene.
They tell u its bout cool modern ninjas, and then Boom its a different genre(i think/not sure) out of nowhere
yeah the mech thing kinda came out of left field i kind of wish they had a ninja vs mech thing rather than merging the 2
What site was that younger picking anime from
Yeah, I remember seeing the first two episodes and thinking 'Wow Ninja John Wick!"
Then the dumb suits with ugly CGI and lame "reveals".
2:36 from what anime is that mountaine turtles
Watching this video reminds me that actually i didn't drop this show & watched it until the end. The problem is.. I totally forgot about it, i have no any recollection of the last episode 😅
