They really ought to upgrade the graphics for black holes with accretion disks and such. The game is already so beautiful but the addition of accretion disks and actively feeding blackholes would just be adding that cherry on top.
If you overheat in SuperCruise IMMEDIATELY slow down and drop out. If it's that severe do an emergency drop. You'll take some hull damage, but less than what happened there o7 Commander for making it to Sag A
The overheat started in normal space. When he failed to line up the vector and got the throttle confused, he should have just turned off the FSD, fixed everything and started again. He would have entered SC with much less heat on the ship and managed to escape with much less damage. Because of his proximity to the black hole, he was always going to take heat damage, compounded by the fact he took forever to enter SC :) No HS ammo was a big issue there too! ;)
I think the fact you had "The Center" selected in the Nav panel made things much worse. ED supercruise mechanics is designed to slow the ship down in the vicinity of selected Nav point. That's why your departure took forever, adding to the time the ship had been under heat stress.
Didn’t even align towards the escape vector and throttle up before charging the FSD (which is what started cooking him). It’s a wonder he survived long enough to get to Sag A* without basic knowledge like that.
In elite, jumping to 3 kinds of bodies scares the shit out of me, and in this order: neutron stars, pulsars, and black holes. One time I jumped to a pulsar, was really tiny speck of bright light with this HUGE as friik ''drop out'' zone (marked with the usual yellow thin line) around it, pulled me right out of super cruise, scared the crap out of me.

Looking at the galactic center on the galaxy map never ceases to amaze me even years after playing. Something about the density of the stars is so unbelievable.
Next time you start overheating like that, go to your modules and turn shit off. Shields, thrusters, anything. That will save your skin faster than freaking out and playing with your power pips. Stay calm and deactivate your modules. Shields use a lot of power so they also put out a lot of heat.

Nope, I never in a million years would have thought to do that. I'll try to remember if I'm ever in that kind of situation though!
It was your FSD causing all the heat damage, if you would've canceled it when your heat got to 100% you could've let it cool down and had more time to realize your thrusters were in reverse. Always fly safe o7.

Ueberdoziz he had no choice he didnt have any heat sincs yeah he screwed up and got to close to a supermassive black hole if you dont have heat sincs you pretty much enhage fsd and hope you dont cook
Pro tip for newcomers in a similar situation use the frame shift drive to find the escape vector and immediately switches off after you are aligned and cool down hit full Throttle and then frameshift out there you will avoid a lot of the damage.
The only black hole encounter I've ever had in Elite was over a year ago. It was your run-of-the-mill, dead massive star sort of black hole, not a supermassive monster like A*. I flew into the black hole (on purpose) and emerged from the other end completely unscathed. That...should not have happened, but it did.
I've seen that happen before, it's a bug. I've been meaning to try it myself but it's so much work to get out there and possibly die I haven't worked up the motivation yet :)
You can abort the jump even after it's charged by just hitting "J" again. Should've done that the moment you got heat problems while charging. Also pack more heat sinks. You can't have too many. And remember your FSD makes a LOT of heat.
Always, always align towards the escape vector and fully throttle up before charging the FSD. Charging the FSD is what’ll start to cook you; being aligned and at top speed means you’ll go back to supercruise the instant it’s charged, minimizing the time spent at those heat levels. Also, before going on a long expedition, make sure you’ve stocked up on engineering materials to synthesize heatsinks and AFMU refills so you don’t run out, the latter especially if you intend to use neutron jumps since each one eats away at your FSD a little. Finally, when your destination is grayed out and enclosed in a dotted circle, it means there’s something between you and what you’re trying to get to, in this case the event horizon. I’m surprised you got all the way to Sag A* without picking up on that, glad you were able to survive.
I love how when he's aligned with the escape vector and the drive won't engage, you can see him slamming the throttle back and forth frantically trying to escape.
My dream is being able to play Elite Dangerous, Universe Sandbox² and Space Engine. I live in an awful country and I can't afford a computer good enough for these.
I'm sorry to hear that. My computer is not that great though, Elite Dangerous does not have Star Citizen requirements. A little tip, a weak cheap computer can manage Elite Dangerous as long as it is running on a SSD harddisk.
yeah, I'm far from having that anyway, my pc is a Core 2 Duo, with 4GB RAM DDR2 and a 512MB 8400GS. No way that will run anything beyound Freelancer. I recently had to uninstall Euro Truck Simulator 2 (I loved to play it, don't judge) because the amount of updates and DLCs made the FPS drop below 6. :(
Gabriel87100 Hey mate, the PS4 version is excellent and they are dirt cheap at the moment. I can't afford a good gaming PC at the moment but the console version is a good compromise. Very happy with it.
until just recently (2.3 I think) paintjobs appeared new on relog or mode switch. Even if he was at colonia and took off from there to Sag A his paint would have been at 0%
Wow. Halfway through the video (just after the first emergency drop) I figured "Well, it's not that bad, you could've heard "Canopy integrity compromised" after that emergency drop". A short while later: "Canopy integrity compromised" and I instantly gasped and thought "oh crap, oh crap!". Tip for the next time you're in this sort of predicament: Drop back out to normal space and disable all non-essential systems. Those shields for example would've made a double digit % difference in heat output :). All you really need is the FSD and the Thrusters.
A quick tip for someone dangerously close to a star who needs to escape and has no heat sinks to deploy: Turn on your FSD for a moment to line up with the escape vector, then turn it off to cool down, then throttle up, dump power into systems, and turn it on again. It gets you the most time to escape before your heat levels get critical.

lol I'm an Elite Dangerous backer and I haven't played in a while but just now, watching the part where the frameshift drive is charged and waiting on ship alignment (which I've horribly misaligned at least once) the heat is building like crazy and the dash is sparking and smoking, I can smell burning stuff! You know a video game did a DAMN GOOD JOB if watching a video on TH-cam of the player getting close to a super massive black hole makes your heart race, no joke I checked my heart rate right after watching this and it was at 108 this game unlike any other (at least that I know of) does the limitless power of space better, it doesn't ask for you respect it demands it.
Watching this over a year later as I made my way to Sag A* and am now happily on my way home. Black holes freak me out so I slowed right down, took my pictures, scanned everything and flew the hell away.
I did similiar when I visited it. I tried to get to the centre marker, cooked my ship so much I was terrified and used two heatsinks to get the hell out of there! This was after several months of exploration data. I'm tempted to make a u turn and fly back 20,000ly to sell my data and go back out. The risk of losing it all is terrifying.
I'm over here like: "Why are they so close to Sagittarius A without heatsinks!?" "Aye fam! You too close!" "See that's what happens when you fw black holes!"
funny how fleet carriers have completely changed the risk of long distance exploration. Now you could just dial up fleet carriers owners club or the hull seals and they would pull a carrier to you for detailed repairs with a week. This man was one of the old breed explorers who left out into the void with no safety net. They laid a path for todays far safer exploration.
I played the game in 2019. The first time i saw a black hole i tried to ram it. I was so sad that the game didnt allowed me to go beyond the event horizon. 😭
@@Maxgamer-fd7hv Dude, its a video game with fast space travel and respawn. What did you expected me to do the first time I encountered a black hole. In my opinion, any game devs that don't allow to do that under the rules I just mentionned has a serious lack of imagination.

I almost had a heart attack during my first canopy breach. At the time I thought it was instant death.... I'm real glad it wasn't, as I was hauling 12 units if gold for a mission at that time, still scares me half to death even now. A canopy breach is something that will and should always terrify you. Just remember, DON'T PANIC ,you have AT LEAST 7:30 worth of oxygen to get to a place to repair. Also module reinforcements don't help the canopy. of course he had a choice! he could of dropped as soon as he started cooling down
Moth to the flame...
Lol exactly :)
Ok, to prevent the overheating while misaligned, you just cancel the jump, get aligned, and restart. Also when needing to throttle up, just boost
But boosting generates unnecessary heat
@@Loli_lover206 Not more than is prevented by escaping the situation more rapidly
For everyone asking what the game is, its Elite Dangerous
Ty
I'm a noob just started. What is the significance of sag A?
@@yewawtmayt2805 it's just a supermassive black hole in the center of the galaxy.
@@yewawtmayt2805 That's the name of the black hole at the center of our galaxy.
Pro tip for newcomers in a similar situation use the frame shift drive to find the escape vector and immediately switches off after you are aligned and cool down hit full Throttle and then frameshift out there you will avoid a lot of the damage.
The light explorative piano when everything is alright really makes the entire video
Lucky Luigi Maia has a black hole, which isn't too far to go from the bubble. It's a far SC flight in from the jump in point though.
I'm pleased to know other commanders get overwhelmed by the alarms and flashing lights.
Jesus man, that was intense. I shared your sense of panic. Good job in recovering! :D
You can abort the jump even after it's charged by just hitting "J" again. Should've done that the moment you got heat problems while charging. Also pack more heat sinks. You can't have too many.
And remember your FSD makes a LOT of heat.
I'll be fine (gets hit with a gamma rays burst
ill be fine (aspx gets Spaghettified into anaconda)
Forget red alert. Let's go straight to brown alert!
when the trip out took you a year, but the trip back to your home hanger took 30 seconds.
That's what you get for having a pink HUD haha. Lucky flying CMDR, o7
Or changing the shields to yellow
That's purple though.
this is beautiful its just amazing to think this is what the center of the milky-way might look like. if it is it looks so beautiful
Your escape from the black hole works so well with the latter half of "No time for caution" form Hans Zimmer!
I liked this idea so much I'm making it a reality.
*sadface* Hope you manage to get a good machine soon !
Gabriel87100 Hey mate, the PS4 version is excellent and they are dirt cheap at the moment. I can't afford a good gaming PC at the moment but the console version is a good compromise. Very happy with it.
Its not Brazil so..
Jesus, from the perspective of someone who hangs around Sol, this looks wild.
Sagittarius A*: “and stay out!”
this my friends, is a prime example of why i NEVER fly without orbit lines
Its crazy how long doing anything in this game takes its kinda beautiful
4:11 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a second.... 1 year exploring and your paintjob is intact? That's suspicious....
until just recently (2.3 I think) paintjobs appeared new on relog or mode switch. Even if he was at colonia and took off from there to Sag A his paint would have been at 0%
As themustachioedman explained, it is a bug in the game
@@LuckyLuigi what game
@@ghostboy6472 elite dangerous
All them little fireworks near Christmas tree were so wholesome :) and they say, black hole - bad
You are so lucky to survive at 2% hull. My respects from 2024, commander
A quick tip for someone dangerously close to a star who needs to escape and has no heat sinks to deploy:
Turn on your FSD for a moment to line up with the escape vector, then turn it off to cool down, then throttle up, dump power into systems, and turn it on again. It gets you the most time to escape before your heat levels get critical.
Why do you fly so GODDAMN CARELESSLY AND GIVE ME A HEART ATTACK
Yeah, people are like, "oh well, spent hundreds of ours grinding and travelling careful to get here. Time to die."
"Leee-roy Jen-kiiins!" he called out as he flew into the black hole.
"curiosity got the better of me"
Like a fish swimming up to the light of a angler fish.
Like a fly landing on a venus fly trap
Like a mouse collecting cheese of a mouse trap
A lesson can be learned here
You had a while extra percent of your hull left. Completely under control. Great video cmdr, thank you for sharing.
Lucky that you didn't touch the event horizon
You cant touch it in Elite. Game will just drop you out of Supercruise near the "border" of body, just like near stars or surfaces
mervan thought it the game did have that since of realism he would have been totally sucked into the black hole
You almost became part of the galactic raspberry souffle!
Bet you flew to the nearest station "Repairs ship and Changes pants."
*You* I like to eat chocolate pudding and explore, I had to fight off pirates sadly I spilled my pudding.
*Dry Cleaner dude* HOW DID YOU SPILL THIS MUCH CHOCOLATE ON YOU PANTS!!!?!?!?!?!

I'm somewhere out between Sag. A and Beagle Point at the moment, in my beat up ASP Explorer. I had a similar accident that you had, but made it out in better shape. Once I reach Beagle Point, I plan on heading back the long way around to the bubble. Can't wait to make it home. Fly safe, CMDR. o7
“Canopy compromised”
**Jazz Music stops**
Wow that black hole actually looks like the one we saw
well done for escaping 😓
lol I'm an Elite Dangerous backer and I haven't played in a while but just now, watching the part where the frameshift drive is charged and waiting on ship alignment (which I've horribly misaligned at least once) the heat is building like crazy and the dash is sparking and smoking, I can smell burning stuff! Damn, that's good visual cueing I'm thinking....
Turns out my toasted tea cake in the kitchen had just dinged and that was what I could smell!
I should break out the ole Saitek X52 Pro and dust off the Imperial Clipper and take it for a spin.... :D
This is why you always pay attention to your 3d compass when aligning with escape vectors that was too close
This like a how to instruction video of how NOT to engage black holes!
You know a video game did a DAMN GOOD JOB if watching a video on TH-cam of the player getting close to a super massive black hole makes your heart race, no joke I checked my heart rate right after watching this and it was at 108 this game unlike any other (at least that I know of) does the limitless power of space better, it doesn't ask for you respect it demands it.
this video is my exploration nightmare
Watching this over a year later as I made my way to Sag A* and am now happily on my way home. Black holes freak me out so I slowed right down, took my pictures, scanned everything and flew the hell away.
I did similiar when I visited it. I tried to get to the centre marker, cooked my ship so much I was terrified and used two heatsinks to get the hell out of there! This was after several months of exploration data. I'm tempted to make a u turn and fly back 20,000ly to sell my data and go back out. The risk of losing it all is terrifying.
This is amazing footage ! You need to share the technical details of your ship with NASA, they’ve only got as far as the moon.
I'm over here like: "Why are they so close to Sagittarius A without heatsinks!?" "Aye fam! You too close!" "See that's what happens when you fw black holes!"
This vid needs your commentary 😂
@@mrenemy7674 Much appreciated! 😂 I just might have to do that.
You can cancel supercruise charge. It help when you mess some stuff. Just do a second try.
LOL, initiating a jump with the Frame Shift Drive on full reverse is an interesting way to do it.
funny how fleet carriers have completely changed the risk of long distance exploration.
Now you could just dial up fleet carriers owners club or the hull seals and they would pull a carrier to you for detailed repairs with a week.
This man was one of the old breed explorers who left out into the void with no safety net. They laid a path for todays far safer exploration.
On the upper right, at 2:50.

you literally can't go beyond the event horizon. Time stops.
Max gamer 20 we Don’t know what happens past the event horizon
@@Maxgamer-fd7hv Dude, its a video game with fast space travel and respawn. What did you expected me to do the first time I encountered a black hole. In my opinion, any game devs that don't allow to do that under the rules I just mentionned has a serious lack of imagination.
@@daganisoraan but we don't know what is beyond the event horizon tho, we can only make assumptions.
@@Maxgamer-fd7hv But that's my point, science-fiction gives us a tool to assume the impossible. Its as if you're saying that you're okay for the game to have FTL and giant space aliens but if the devs dared to try to do something about black holes, that's unnacceptable.
A black hole represented as a transparent hole and ship overheating because of nothing. And not even mention the effect of jumping to another star... traveling a few light years looks like crossing half universe. This game is fabulous.
When going for gravity assist on a super massive black hole always keep your distance from the near invisible high orbital speed of the transparent torordial ring unless you want to be ionized matter. Amazed you didn't end up behind your own bookcase.
well no wonder, you're running a combat build for exploration and taking all pips away from systems, which would've helped you cool off faster
I don’t understand what happened but rip?
if the ship had suffered any more damage, the engines would likely have stopped working or exploded. even worse, the black hole's insane gravity would stretch it into strings of atoms
@@EnderSpy358 that sounds cool tho

I almost had a heart attack during my first canopy breach. At the time I thought it was instant death.... I'm real glad it wasn't, as I was hauling 12 units if gold for a mission at that time, still scares me half to death even now. A canopy breach is something that will and should always terrify you. Just remember, DON'T PANIC ,you have AT LEAST 7:30 worth of oxygen to get to a place to repair. Also module reinforcements don't help the canopy. It suffers damage through heat or by being shot directly, it is the only exposed module on any ship and has no way of being improved.
I remember I survived with 1% health, and I had reached a max of 500+ temp
Your ship's a heckin champ for making it through that
I would fly into a black hole if I had an annoying Britbong autopilot/AI on my ship
Literally everybody hates the American accent. Amerifat.
