Fuel Rats will answer a call on their IRC for help to give fuel and keep you from dying and having to rebuy your entire ship and Loadout for 5% the original costs as well as being sent back with none of your stuff to the nearest station.

Over 800hrs wasted, Yeah done with it to grindy and I have a job and can't play this anymore like I used to when I was still in highschool. Never did engineering either though.

Ah having fun with jousing are we? It's a common plroblem for new comabt pilots don't worry. The trick is to use your up and down thrust to break the joust, when other ship is comming at you boost and imediatly use the vertical thrusters while rotating your ship to face the enemy. This will cause him to pass your ship at a high speed so it'll take longer to turn back around for another pass and the mean time you flip off Flight Assist to get a fater turn rate then engauge it again to stablise your ship one your on the other ships tail. Also keep that throttle in the blue zone as much as possible, agility is more important than speed in combat.
And here I was thinking that Fuel Rats were pirates who stole your fuel. Now, this video shows it's otherwise. Nice rescue. I guess the take away here is that what you classify people and organizations in EVE Online is with a far different meaning in this game of Elite Dangerous.
This is awesome. Got goose bumps. Amazing what the fuel rats do and how amazing people can be. Not even playing Elite... just watched a video about the rats and got this one as a suggestion... Even though no comparison in any way: I used to fly helis in Battlefield 2. Especially on the largest maps, my main "thing" was picking up and transport players. I was specialized in transporting snipers to perfect positions. Amazing feeling....
I know I'm "Johnny come lately" on this video, but I have to mention what a great save that was and how much I enjoyed watching it! I'm new to Elite (couple months in) and this was another great example of how the Commanders of Elite Dangerous create their own fun, making it far more than what is offered. I got saved by a fuel rat my first week in game a long time ago, but he just kinda randomly found me out of gas near a star. I didn’t even know what the rats were and didn’t know he was one until later.
I’ve been saved my the Rats before. Wasn’t paying attention and got stuck in my Mamba before I engineered the FSD. Extremely quick and professional, kind and courteous. One of these days I’m gonna engineer my Anaconda and Asp for this purpose and lend a hand to em.
It reduces the heat of the ship a bit so that I could travel a little faster. It can save a couple of seconds per jump since you can then charge the FSD while you are still finishing scooping fuel. It adds up over a 15KLY flight :)
I don't quite understand how you determine that the drop to thrusters has not intercepted the target correctly before looking at the distance to the target. At 3:20 for example the target appears to be at moderate range on sensors yet you retried the intercept immediately. What am I missing?
The sensor contact was solid and did not go to a hollow square, meaning we were not instanced. I also jumped right in front of the planet suddenly, which is another giveaway that it has not worked. You can see whan I try the blind drop, I get a hollow square on the radar meaning that we are instanced correctly.
@@BrotherSabathius Oh bother, I never understood the meaning of a solid vs hollow sensor contact or indeed that there are different instances in Elite for the same locations in the same game mode. Well, off to Google I go I suppose. :3
He is too close to the planet. The same applies to stars too, so the only way to get to someone who has hit the exclusion zone of a star is to crash into the zone in the same place. We call this a "Tactical Faceplant" :D
@BMO If you go under your inventory tab, the second or third row from the bottom is called "Synthesis" in there, you can make a variety of useful things using materials gather from mining!
I think it's so cool that the game has gravity effects like that so that a dead ship will fall toward the planet. Awesome rescue, you guys are the best!

Not entirely true... I have had tons of support getting into the game by fellow commanders! (New commander here) they gave a damn about me and plenty others.
This is what they enjoy, it IS their free time. Fuel Rats usually have all that they need in the game so they help people. It's also why they don't need payment.

Anthony Anderson you have pretty much nothing to fear in open, unless you go to specific high player populated areas. It’s a large galaxy, and 99% of players you run into will just greet you, because meeting another player is still rare.
That TRULY fit perfectly! From finding the commander in the scanner, dropping out, reaching 10km, hitting the first boost, and the limpet connecting with the ASP!

OMG I was on the edge of my sofa rooting for this guy to get supplies to this pilot in time, I was like...come on! come on!! actually punched the air with a YES!!!! when it was successful. Fantastic mission, nice one commander. I could watch this again and again than rather sit and watch The Last Jedi lol.

There needs to be dedicated ships for you guys, equipped with bomb bays to dump fuel, oxygen, and any other supplies on target, bombers aren't just fir destruction if you use a little ingenuity and initiative
@@fl4shblade You're right, it won't simply continue in the direction it is pushed, but on a vector that is a combination of the direction the ship was moving at the time the item was released and the direction it was pushed out of the bomb/cargo bay. Unless you have a better explanation of a moving object in effectively zero gravity?

@Anonymous Anonymous In reality the requirements aren't that bad. I had a lot of fun my first couple of months on a very basic setup: Intel i5-2400, 16 GB RAM, and an old GT 710. Enough to play the game at 720p with moderate detail levels. I mean, it's a space sim, so you're not rendering lush forests or whatever. I saw a little slowdown inside stations and on planet surfaces with that rig, but all in all it was still a lot of fun, and totally playable. The game itself runs about $70 for the current version, and there's no monthly fee as yet, though I've seen some videos by Frontier that they might be introducing a monthly fee in a future update. I highly recommend a flightstick. I have an old Thrustmaster with 12 buttons, a 4-direction hat, and 4 axes (pitch, roll, yaw, throttle) that does the trick. Another $30-$40, if you don't already have one. Of note is that you can still play the original game and the second "season", so it's likely that you'll be able to play the versions up to the point where the monthly fee is introduced without subscribing to that. Hope this helps!
Has anyone ever tried exploring in a convoy? Like several high jump range ships, and one ship has nothing but fuel tanks and fuel limpets, and it can refuel ships and repair damage, and that’s basically the “tanker”, while everyone else is the escort. Maybe if there’s ever an event again like the colonia ones way back, I could outfit a type 9 or something to do that, and just go around repairing and refueling allies.
it would be good for nuetron star emergencies (provided they get out otherwise that ship is toast) other than that it isnt hard for people to put a good fuel scoop on.
My partner and I work as a pair, I have a higher jump range and cargo capacity, so I run the fuel limpets, but as far as I've seen that isn't terribly common.
I could see this working if exploration data and credit for first discovery could be split between wing mates. In this situation one ship would discover planets, one would surface scan them, and one would scoop the star for fuel to give to the others. And in the end they could all get fairly paid for their contribution.
I remember when I started I ran out of fuel (like 30 min in I still had a sidewinder) luckily my friend came and helped me. He told me that if nobody was online that I would have to contact the fuel rats and get a lecture on refueling at stars and planning my route. Guess who hasn't ever called the fuel rats after 6 months of play
Lecture is a bit hard. We would just inform you politely of all the weays to get fuel and all thew tips and tricks availabel to provide you with a safe journey. Good luck out there CMDR
When you're out in deep space more thank 10k away from a habitated System it's easy to forget things when jumping and refueling process' gets monotone. Players (like myself) could take the L and self destruct if that happens but that could mean: 1) losing your ship entirely if you are out of creds, 2) losing ALL of the exploration data you have on your ship's computer which can hurt not just financially but you are probably lose the first explored status on stellar objects. Some explorer do this not just for fun but to mark their name in Elite's Galaxy. That's when the fuel rats come in to picture: players who are willing to spend HOURS to rescue said players in specificaly fitted and engieneered ships - and you can't just have a fully kitted Conda to do the job, you must know the game like the commander in the video: how to execute rescue missions on time, fighting with ingame mechanics and other unfortunate circumstances.
This is like watching Matt's offroad recovery. A lot of little technical things to watch and it's pretty enjoyable watching someone who knows what they are doing really well.
too bad that even after watching how great this game is, i still dont want to play it at all. eve online left a deep wound in my heart, and elite looks great and all, but its more complex than eve.
The fuel rats are the best thing about this game. This is the true "player created events". Now I even appreciate how its not just a case of getting to the system, there's a lot that the number 1 emergency service has to get right to save you.
This game needs more stuff like this, human interaction is scarce and the social tools are sorely lacking.... but it has the best space flight mechanics of any sim i have played. SC doesn’t count until it works.
They do. Regular rescues are routine, because the commander can just log out and with even just a little fuel remaining, the ship has power. But as soon as there's "code red" in chat, things get a lot more serious. I'm not a fuel rat, but I know how they operate and benefited from their rescue service once. They are very well organised and extremely efficient.
Now this is what I love in a game. A great community that takes the time to make everyone else's experience in the game that much better. The Fuel Rats are the best player faction I've ever seen
can you imagine this from his point of view though he's just barreling towards the planet, watching the group marker get closer and closer, another ship appears and all he sees is a little light fly from it, as he's just about to accept he's screwed, his panels say he has fuel.

Come expecting a rescue requiring all sorts of creative ways to locate the target in deep space. Receive a Michael Bay-esque high speed rescue of a falling ship.
Saved by them once, after a targoid pulled me out, from reaching a star i could use to fuel, barely any left could not jump more anywhere, star was so "close" 3 hours away at maks speed fuel reserves.. 15 min with all non important stuff off, Fuel rats are gods for saving me 20k from anywhere

If you play "No Time for Caution" from Interstellar right at the 3:15 mark, it syncs PERFECTLY with the rescue.

I tried that kinda maneuver going into a space station with a type 9. IMAGINE how cool it COULD have been, and immediately after let your imagination show you what likely happened.

OMG I was on the edge of my sofa rooting for this guy to get supplies to this pilot in time, I was like...come on! come on!! actually punched the air with a YES!!!! when it was successful. Fantastic mission, nice one commander. I could watch this again and again than rather sit and watch The Last Jedi lol.

There needs to be dedicated ships for you guys, equipped with bomb bays to dump fuel, oxygen, and any other supplies on target, bombers aren't just fir destruction if you use a little ingenuity and initiative

@@fl4shblade You're right, it won't simply continue in the direction it is pushed, but on a vector that is a combination of the direction the ship was moving at the time the item was released and the direction it was pushed out of the bomb/cargo bay. Unless you have a better explanation of a moving object in effectively zero gravity?

That's one of the great things about E:D--so much of the content is left hidden unless you seek it out! I just recently spent a little time learning how Guardian ruins work, which was a lot of fun. I think I might go hunting for the remaining beacons that Canonn thinks are still missing next!

@Anonymous Anonymous In reality the requirements aren't that bad. I had a lot of fun my first couple of months on a very basic setup: Intel i5-2400, 16 GB RAM, and an old GT 710. Enough to play the game at 720p with moderate detail levels. I mean, it's a space sim, so you're not rendering lush forests or whatever. I saw a little slowdown inside stations and on planet surfaces with that rig, but all in all it was still a lot of fun, and totally playable. The game itself runs about $70 for the current version, and there's no monthly fee as yet, though I've seen some videos by Frontier that they might be introducing a monthly fee in a future update.
I highly recommend a flightstick. I have an old Thrustmaster with 12 buttons, a 4-direction hat, and 4 axes (pitch, roll, yaw, throttle) that does the trick. Another $30-$40, if you don't already have one.
Of note is that you can still play the original game and the second "season", so it's likely that you'll be able to play the versions up to the point where the monthly fee is introduced without subscribing to that.

Has anyone ever tried exploring in a convoy? Like several high jump range ships, and one ship has nothing but fuel tanks and fuel limpets, and it can refuel ships and repair damage, and that’s basically the “tanker”, while everyone else is the escort.
Maybe if there’s ever an event again like the colonia ones way back, I could outfit a type 9 or something to do that, and just go around repairing and refueling allies.
it would be good for nuetron star emergencies (provided they get out otherwise that ship is toast) other than that it isnt hard for people to put a good fuel scoop on.
My partner and I work as a pair, I have a higher jump range and cargo capacity, so I run the fuel limpets, but as far as I've seen that isn't terribly common.
I could see this working if exploration data and credit for first discovery could be split between wing mates. In this situation one ship would discover planets, one would surface scan them, and one would scoop the star for fuel to give to the others. And in the end they could all get fairly paid for their contribution.

I remember when I started I ran out of fuel (like 30 min in I still had a sidewinder) luckily my friend came and helped me. He told me that if nobody was online that I would have to contact the fuel rats and get a lecture on refueling at stars and planning my route. Guess who hasn't ever called the fuel rats after 6 months of play

When you're out in deep space more thank 10k away from a habitated System it's easy to forget things when jumping and refueling process' gets monotone. Players (like myself) could take the L and self destruct if that happens but that could mean: 1) losing your ship entirely if you are out of creds, 2) losing ALL of the exploration data you have on your ship's computer which can hurt not just financially but you are probably lose the first explored status on stellar objects. Some explorer do this not just for fun but to mark their name in Elite's Galaxy.
That's when the fuel rats come in to picture: players who are willing to spend HOURS to rescue said players in specificaly fitted and engieneered ships - and you can't just have a fully kitted Conda to do the job, you must know the game like the commander in the video: how to execute rescue missions on time, fighting with ingame mechanics and other unfortunate circumstances.
Never once called for fuel rats and I've been playing for 3 years. I honestly don't understand how so many people get that careless.

This is like watching Matt's offroad recovery. A lot of little technical things to watch and it's pretty enjoyable watching someone who knows what they are doing really well.
too bad that even after watching how great this game is, i still dont want to play it at all. eve online left a deep wound in my heart, and elite looks great and all, but its more complex than eve.
It doesn't have to be, and is far less soul destroying. Spend a few hours rigging up a viper 3 and go bounty hunt, good fun

The fuel rats are the best thing about this game. This is the true "player created events". Now I even appreciate how its not just a case of getting to the system, there's a lot that the number 1 emergency service has to get right to save you.
This game needs more stuff like this, human interaction is scarce and the social tools are sorely lacking.... but it has the best space flight mechanics of any sim i have played. SC doesn’t count until it works.
I guess that's one way people get their kicks in this game... and get praised for it!

They do. Regular rescues are routine, because the commander can just log out and with even just a little fuel remaining, the ship has power.
But as soon as there's "code red" in chat, things get a lot more serious.
I'm not a fuel rat, but I know how they operate and benefited from their rescue service once.
They are very well organised and extremely efficient.
Now this is what I love in a game. A great community that takes the time to make everyone else's experience in the game that much better. The Fuel Rats are the best player faction I've ever seen

can you imagine this from his point of view though he's just barreling towards the planet, watching the group marker get closer and closer, another ship appears and all he sees is a little light fly from it, as he's just about to accept he's screwed, his panels say he has fuel.
Wow. Just Wow. Watching this in January 2023 and its just amazing that volunteers do this for people in a video game. Many blessings to EVERY Fuel Rat. !!
This was an awesome save. And as a new player, I just learned something from this video, and from an actual Fuel rat. Always have materials to Synthesize Emergency Oxygen.

Yup, you can use their website to send out a ratsignal and a dispatcher will tell you what to do and get players ony your case to help you

Come expecting a rescue requiring all sorts of creative ways to locate the target in deep space.
Receive a Michael Bay-esque high speed rescue of a falling ship.
Saved by them once, after a targoid pulled me out, from reaching a star i could use to fuel, barely any left could not jump more anywhere, star was so "close" 3 hours away at maks speed fuel reserves.. 15 min with all non important stuff off, Fuel rats are gods for saving me 20k from anywhere

Tried to jump way too far in a little eagle and had one of these fellas coming to rescue me, flew up on mic and everything, was quite the interaction in what I thought was a game where you were mostly alone.
