If you are looking for more power then actually the Helios 300 beats the triton 500 ( rtx 2060 version ), get if you are willing to thinness and better battery life ( not a huge difference tho )
@@kavinsuresh5468 In case you didn't watch the video, the bigger battery on the Triton doesn't actually do anything, it gets more battery life in gaming, but really, how often will you be gaming without being plugged in? All you get with the Triton is a slightly thinner chasis, Thunderbolt and... that's it. You also get an inverted motherboard, so have fun uograding or trying to fix any hardware issues yourself. I pereonally wouldn't recommend it.

@Geo Tech News All in all I am very happy. I only tested one game so far, Devil May Cry 5 on high settings, on average I got 110 fps while gaming. Only 2 things I want to warn you about: 1) The fans can be noisy even during non demanding tasks, such as watching a video 2) The sound from the speakers is really really poor. They are place on the front bottom, which means that by placing it on any surface (a table, a bed and so on) will result in muffled sound. I am forced to use an external speaker. My 5-year old Asus laptop with B&O certified speakers is miles ahead.
Also because of him I bought the helios 300 right when it was available in my country, Philippines. Tho I compared a lot of this video, and it's one of his that made up my mind. I never thought i could buy it in my country as at the time it is like 1 or 2 months being reviewed by reviewers here

I just got my Helios 300 last week, and I LOVE it. My model has the following specs: 9th gen Core i7 16 GB of RAM 256 GB NVME SSD + 1 terabyte Hard drive RTX 2060 144 Hz display, RGB Lighting Though I think a bigger battery instead of the extra 2.5 inch drive slot would have been a better choice, I still love how easy it is to upgrade the Helios 300 and the massive amounts of storage and RAM you can put into the Helios. And battery is still decent, still able to get around 5 and a half hours of use doing almost any other task.
Nice, good to hear! Yeah many laptops have the option of letting you pick bigger battery instead of 2.5" drive, would be good if more gave the user the choice rather than forcing one option.
jayadithya nalajala in terms of editing videos, yeah the fans do turn on and make noise. Though it’s quieter than when gaming, there’s still fan noise, but it’s not annoyingly loud. As for web surfing, youtube videos, Microsoft office, and other less demanding tasks, fans run at bit of a higher rpm, but noise is barely noticeable.
I really enjoy my nitro 5. I know it isn’t the best, but it’s good enough for me, and I game, video/photo edit, and produce music on it as well. It handles everything very well, surprisingly.
I’m now thinking that the HDD slot in the Helios 300 couldve been avoided for a better battery life.. not saying it’s bad; it can last for 5hr doing other stuffs that doesnt involve heavy usage. I still love my investment! Such a powerful laptop. Thanks for these reviews!
I guess it's what you use it for. I use mine for more than just gaming so it's handy to have that HDD in there. I don't game unless I'm plugged in so I don't see an issue with battery life
Since it has 2 nvme slots and 1tb SSD out of the box (at least mine configuration), larger battery would be far better choice and i is pretty much the only thing I would change on this laptop. You can always use external HDD if you run out of that 1tb (most people wont) if you are desperate and not willing to buy second ssd. Like seriously, who would use HDD nowadays when ssd is so much faster and relative cheap.
I bought (as a mistake) two instead of one Predator Triton 500 with RTX 2060. The optic and chassis is very lovely. But I do have all the time extreme coil whine / electrical scratching. Even in Idle, Working or Gaming. The three fans are very loud in a high pitched noisy way. The only solution, giving both back and buying an XMG Fusion / Eluktronics Mag / Vapor. Just a little coil whine, and a not high pitched fan. I'm in love r8 now.
@@JarrodsTech Yes both, Well I guess it could be because i've got a EU version with 1TB of Storage. The noise comes from the MB (SSD Slots), the Network Chip and the GPU. I'm not joking. Even my GF could hear it. (She owns a XPS 15 from '18 and got no coil whine at all)
Watched this video after I got my new nitro 5. Since I'm a student and I game pretty often, it's really great, especially because I'm on a super low budget. For the nitro to be on a comparison video and almost compete with the Helios 300 AND Triton 500, I think that that's pretty cool for a budget laptop.
@@chayseferrier3793 ooh didn't get a noti. It's still an amazing laptop because it can run any game you throw at it and you'll still be able to play comfortably. And I still get surprised to this day how all of this power can be packed in a laptop. One thing though. This laptop has pretty good cooling (so temps will be 60s-80s depending on the settings you play on) but the thermal limit for the CPU is 75C. That's the biggest downside of this laptop. Unlike the intel variants, the amd version throttles at 75 from 3.2ghz to 1.98 ghz. It's not that big of a deal since it keeps the temps low but you will lose a LOT of fps in cpu demanding games like fortnite. I also recommend you to upgrade to 16 gb dual channel as the ryzen apu is ram hungry. And you'll need to optimize the laptop quite a bit because I find that stock windows settings are very stuttery in games. And one last thing. Since its a budget laptop, everything is made of plastic and can be broken pretty easily. I've NEVER taken this laptop out of my house (like to a library in a bag) and it's always been on my table. I only open and close the lid twice a day but the screen hinge still managed to break. (and that's mainly because its made of cheap material). So now I have to be very careful opening and closing the laptop screen but it still manages to stay upright. Other than that, if you're not going to take this anywhere and you're not expecting esport level performance (even though it can manage to get 130 fps in fortnite and around 144 in csgo), this laptop is great for you. ok im done my essay thanks for reading

I just got an Acer Predator Helios 300. (2022) It is specc'ed even better. 11 Gen i7, NVIDIA 3070, nice screen, (165 Htz refresh rate) still 2 M2 slots and an SATA drive. Love it. Would buy it again. I filled up all the drives. Maxed out the RAM to 32 GB. Nice laptop.
I have a Nitro 5 17.3'' and to sum it up, it can cook an egg. I used a digital thermometer to see how hot it was getting and it turned out the hottest temperature was 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Fun fact: if you were looking for the triton rtx 2060 version then don't worry, the Helios beats it in performance and thermals due to bigger chassis and factory overclocking/undervolting
I had the opportunity to use both of them. Triton rtx 2060 (1978 CA$) & helios 300(1442 CA$). Triton looks great & had Thunderbolt 3, other than that there is not much difference performance wise or battery life. So I decided to save 530 CA$. :D

Titles that are CPU heavy such as Far Cry 5, AC : Odyssey will run significantly better on the i7 9750h. And even in non CPU heavy titles you can expect a 5% increase in FPS.
just bought the acer nitro 5 with 1660ti and omg i love it as my first gaming laptop im able to run everything at the highest settings it feels so good

I recently picked up the 2020 edition the acer Nitro 5 with the 10th gen i5 10300H and the GTX 1650 gddr6 version. It was on as an intro price at a store here called The Source by circuit city. They were selling for $849 with taxes that came up to $968 I believe.after the sale ended I saw it again in the store still but now it was going for almost a thousand

In my region the Nitro 5 comes with a 144Hz display. Also, there's an option for an 8th gen i5 with a GTX1650 and 120Hz display which is $200 cheaper than the 9th gen one. :)
I got the Nitro 5 last week and so far its lasted longer than my $1600 GAMING COMPUTER I bought on Amazon a few years ago(that didnt even last 2 months for me)
I'm wondering how your thin Triton had better temperatures than Helios 300. My Triton (RTX 2060 + i7) was overheating causing slight performance loss. Thermal paste lottery i guess.
Could be, does yours have the undervolt? On my first one I had it didn't come with it til I updated bios/predator sense software. Also if you sleep/hibernate the undervolt will remove until reboot

Merry Christmas and happy new year Jarrod , thanks for all the great tech reviews in 2019. I bought the Triton 500 2080 max Q. Maybe a bit overpriced for what you get but I am not complaining.
@@eurovlad I have had it since May last year and its great. I do tend to put the fans at max whenever I play for extended periods just to be on the safe side as the processor can get really hot even with the now stock 0.10 undervolt. I wear sound isolating ear phones so the noise doesn't bother me. It stays reasonably cool with peaks of 96 degrees celsius while 'average' is around the mid eighties when playing titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 at max settings. The GPU doesn't much break a sweat when using max fan. Cooling just seems to work really well for such a thin light laptop.
It's very interesting to see the three of those laptops opened up, giving us a good view of the cooling systems on them. It's been quite the year for tech releases! Maxed out my Helios 300 with 4tb 2.5” Samsung ssd, 2x 1tb crucial mx500 m.2 ssd, kryonaut thermal pasted hardware, ax200 WiFi card, and a 32 gb ram(might have went with 64 but too expensive to try and not work).

What I have found by seeing the reviews and replies on Reddit, is that Y540 during normal circumstances or daily usage (non-gaming), the fan is not that loud, plus the aesthetics make it a better choice for me. Regarding, the Triton500, I have seen the reviews on Amazon, that it has screen blackout issues. Though I like Triton500, the reason being its semi-gaming design i.e. its between the Y540 (casual) and Helios300 (gaming) look. But that blackout issue is serious for me.
I did compare lot of different laptops couple of weeks. Also ultrabooks which I had before (Lenovo Yoga 900, which broke up) But because gaming laptops has come surprisingly light these days (2,1 kg) I finally did choose and bought Triton 500, i7-9750H, RTX 2080, 32 Gb, 1024 Gb + 1024 Gb. Totally awesome gaming rig for years to come.
If anything I'd undervolt it. Overclocking is fine in a tower because the GPUs have fat coolers. But in laptops the thermals are already high, so overclocking will add more heat so the GPU will throttle anyways. So no, I wouldn't recommend it.
It will be fine, on laptops all you can do is boost clock speed, worst case your game will crash if its unstable. You can't change the actual power limits using software like MSI Afterburner so not a big deal.
I loved your comparison! You told pretty much everything the most important important thing to me if display and colour accuracy.. can you (or anyone who knows) tell the difference between the colour accuracies of the 3 laptops?

Hey Jarrod, great video! Quick question, I was stuck in between choosing the Y540 and the Mag 15. The Y540 has worse battery life and build compared to the Mag 15 but the Mag has a noticeably louder fan. When gaming is there a large difference between the loudness of the two fans? Which laptop is better overall? Also, which laptop has the better thermals? In comparing the two screens of the two laptops, is there a big difference in quality and which one is better?
Thanks! Honestly I can't recall the difference in fan noise as I didn't use them side by side, so you'd be able to check by reviewing my videos on both. I'd go for the mag 15 if you want to spend more money to get the bigger battery, Thunderbolt, mech keyboard and SD card slot. I also can't recall thermal differences at this point, but yeah again you can refer to my full reviews of either and compare results as I've done the same testing.

The coil whine shouldn’t be very audible. I had to stick my ears to the keyboard to hear it

I also recommend you to upgrade to 16 gb dual channel as the ryzen apu is ram hungry. And you'll need to optimize the laptop quite a bit because I find that stock windows settings are very stuttery in games. And one last thing. Since its a budget laptop, everything is made of plastic and can be broken pretty easily. I've NEVER taken this laptop out of my house (like to a library in a bag) and it's always been on my table. I only open and close the lid twice a day but the screen hinge still managed to break. (and that's mainly because its made of cheap material). So now I have to be very careful opening and closing the laptop screen but it still manages to stay upright. Other than that, if you're not going to take this anywhere and you're not expecting esport level performance (even though it can manage to get 130 fps in fortnite and around 144 in csgo), this laptop is great for you.

I just got an Acer Predator Helios 300. (2022) It is specc'ed even better. 11 Gen i7,
NVIDIA 3070, nice screen, (165 Htz refresh rate) still 2 M2 slots and an SATA drive. Love it. Would buy it again. I filled up all the drives. Maxed out the RAM to 32 GB. Nice laptop.
I have a Nitro 5 17.3'' and to sum it up, it can cook an egg. I used a digital thermometer to see how hot it was getting and it turned out the hottest temperature was 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
I'll get my Helios 300 tomorrow I'm so happy :')

I had the opportunity to use both of them. Triton rtx 2060 (1978 CA$) & helios 300(1442 CA$). Triton looks great & had Thunderbolt 3, other than that there is not much difference performance wise or battery life. So I decided to save 530 CA$. :D

Titles that are CPU heavy such as Far Cry 5, AC : Odyssey will run significantly better on the i7 9750h. And even in non CPU heavy titles you can expect a 5% increase in FPS.
No plans unfortunately, after all this time I've still never been sent a 9300H laptop so I can't do the video fairly.

I recently picked up the 2020 edition the acer Nitro 5 with the 10th gen i5 10300H and the GTX 1650 gddr6 version. It was on as an intro price at a store here called The Source by circuit city. They were selling for $849 with taxes that came up to $968 I believe.after the sale ended I saw it again in the store still but now it was going for almost a thousand

In my region the Nitro 5 comes with a 144Hz display. Also, there's an option for an 8th gen i5 with a GTX1650 and 120Hz display which is $200 cheaper than the 9th gen one. :)

I'm wondering how your thin Triton had better temperatures than Helios 300.
My Triton (RTX 2060 + i7) was overheating causing slight performance loss. Thermal paste lottery i guess.
Could be, does yours have the undervolt? On my first one I had it didn't come with it til I updated bios/predator sense software. Also if you sleep/hibernate the undervolt will remove until reboot

So, how is it after one month of use?
@@eurovlad I have had it since May last year and its great. I do tend to put the fans at max whenever I play for extended periods just to be on the safe side as the processor can get really hot even with the now stock 0.10 undervolt. I wear sound isolating ear phones so the noise doesn't bother me. It stays reasonably cool with peaks of 96 degrees celsius while 'average' is around the mid eighties when playing titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 at max settings. The GPU doesn't much break a sweat when using max fan. Cooling just seems to work really well for such a thin light laptop.
Would love to see how the Triton 300 fits in between.
It's very interesting to see the three of those laptops opened up, giving us a good view of the cooling systems on them.

Maxed out my Helios 300 with 4tb 2.5” Samsung ssd, 2x 1tb crucial mx500 m.2 ssd, kryonaut thermal pasted hardware, ax200 WiFi card, and a 32 gb ram(might have went with 64 but too expensive to try and not work).

The only thing holding me back from buying the Helios300 is the gaming look, legion Y540 has better aesthetics. But after watching this review, I am considering Tirton500 too. Super confused now. -_-

What I have found by seeing the reviews and replies on Reddit, is that Y540 during normal circumstances or daily usage (non-gaming), the fan is not that loud, plus the aesthetics make it a better choice for me. Regarding, the Triton500, I have seen the reviews on Amazon, that it has screen blackout issues. Though I like Triton500, the reason being its semi-gaming design i.e. its between the Y540 (casual) and Helios300 (gaming) look. But that blackout issue is serious for me.
I did compare lot of different laptops couple of weeks. Also ultrabooks which I had before (Lenovo Yoga 900, which broke up) But because gaming laptops has come surprisingly light these days (2,1 kg) I finally did choose and bought Triton 500, i7-9750H, RTX 2080, 32 Gb, 1024 Gb + 1024 Gb. Totally awesome gaming rig for years to come.

I just got the Acer Predator Helios 300 for Christmas. Will the laptop be harmed if I overclock the GPU?
If anything I'd undervolt it. Overclocking is fine in a tower because the GPUs have fat coolers. But in laptops the thermals are already high, so overclocking will add more heat so the GPU will throttle anyways. So no, I wouldn't recommend it.

It will be fine, on laptops all you can do is boost clock speed, worst case your game will crash if its unstable. You can't change the actual power limits using software like MSI Afterburner so not a big deal.

I’m hopefully trying to get the Acer Predator Triton 500 for Christmas I would love to mess around with the RTX on minecraft and stream some roblox as well, I’ve been waiting so long for a new gaming computer since my 2014 Alienware 17 broke in July and had nothing else to do, hopefully I pick the right computer and from watching this video I’m I little skeptical with the inverted motherboard for the triton 500 but I’m still going with that because I’ve heard so much bad reviews for the Helios 300 and I don’t really wanna buy it, can’t wait man can’t wait till I get my hands on that beast of a machine.

Hey Jarrod, great video! Quick question, I was stuck in between choosing the Y540 and the Mag 15. The Y540 has worse battery life and build compared to the Mag 15 but the Mag has a noticeably louder fan. When gaming is there a large difference between the loudness of the two fans? Which laptop is better overall? Also, which laptop has the better thermals? In comparing the two screens of the two laptops, is there a big difference in quality and which one is better?
Thanks! Honestly I can't recall the difference in fan noise as I didn't use them side by side, so you'd be able to check by reviewing my videos on both. I'd go for the mag 15 if you want to spend more money to get the bigger battery, Thunderbolt, mech keyboard and SD card slot. I also can't recall thermal differences at this point, but yeah again you can refer to my full reviews of either and compare results as I've done the same testing.
