The metal cap can be a capacitive sensor. Or more specifically, anything metal in contact with the sensing circuitry becomes part of the sensor. I don't know if they designed it that way but if they did, the metal cap should be touching metal contacts somewhere. I like the design and the customization. For a -second- first attempt, they got a lot right. The price, weight and sound quality for the price are deal breakers for me.
It would have been a clever implementation to swap the back plates out for an external sound. It would have been good to be able to lie them flat so more people could listen if needed.
xm4 user here: my previous NC headphones were the surface headphones 2 and they were quite a bit cheaper with better controls, better build and more comfortable. the NC was about 85% of the sony's, and the sound quality was 90% there. (i am a music producer as well so yeah)
Can agree Since XM5 wont fold or doesnt have NFC so those just are not for me. XM4's are just so good. BTW remember to keep them in the carrying case every now and then, it keeps the headband in correct shape so they seal tight on your head. They got a little loose on me but the case bends the headband back to normal semi tight seal they had from the factory :)
As somebody who is a total tech layman, it was funny when you said the price. I was like "Ah yeah, just headphones, how much can it be? $100?" and then you said $500 and I thought that was exorbitant! And then you told me the Apple version is MORE expensive?! We all lead different lives...
Dyson R&D occasionally brings niche products to market in categories that are not their core markets in order to test components under real world conditions. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the tech in these makes their way into large TAM products of theirs in unexpected ways in the next few years.
I’m thinking the opposite. They were developing an EV up until a few years ago. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re recycling some components/R&D to recoup some of the loss
kudos for replacable earcups which are not just the foam but also the inside fabric. After owning three pairs of anc over ear headphones, I know that they will stink after 2 years of usage, but being able to change as much as possible on the inside might help.
I tried a lot of different "high-end" casual headphones and Imo I would say that either the Sennheiser m4 or the Sony xm5 is the best headphones out their. Sennheiser: Super crystal clear sound, german quality. Sony XM5: Best NC out their, worst touchbar ever, can't do any workout without the xm5 deciding to change or pause the song (can take this function away in their app) Both of these headphones are also way cheaper then the Dysons and Airpods max. Alternattive: Sonos ARC: Great sound output, best buttons funcionallity, not as great sound as you expect from a brand like Sonos.
My major gripe has always been not able to change the style of the headphones, this is actually solves that really smartly in terms of engineering and design. Plus, this time round the design is quite decent and minimal as well! Props to Dyson!
Personally, I find myself drawn to them. The customization really nails it home for me. I mean the matte pastel color choices are just chef's kiss. If I didn't already have a fairly recent pair of headphones, I'd consider these if they were ever on sale.
If they are like the Dyson Zone headphones, you can also tap anywhere on the 3 metal parts on the head pieces, at the top, to turn noise cancelling on and off. Not just the ear piece. Hope that helps.
Over-ear headphones should be the standard for work-from-home setups-earbuds are uncomfortable for long calls and don't provide the same audio immersion for productivity.
Dyson's most employees are engineers. Not many tech companies can say that. It is a Gen 2 product. Rome was not built in a day. They learn and adapt. The app will change over time as well. It pushes innovation. Everyone should agree that is a good thing. Compared to the first vacuum they pushed out, people said it would fail, but to 2024 they sold millions worldwide. Like most of the comments say where are they going with this? Audio environmental health?
Needs vacuum integration so it can automatically adjust the ANC while vacuuming.
If you plug the vacuum directly into your ear and leave it for 1-2 minutes, that solves the problem permanently.

Apple to Dyson: "Not like us"
@@alphaa2010loser bot
I saw the title and went "Damn they're trying again?" But they actually look slick as hell
Imagine clear acrylic outer covers.....now THAT would look sic *and* lighten up the weight.
They look alot like Bang & Olufsun headphones
agree - wish the sound matched the look. too bad
They actually look sick with no caps on
The metal cap can be a capacitive sensor. Or more specifically, anything metal in contact with the sensing circuitry becomes part of the sensor. I don't know if they designed it that way but if they did, the metal cap should be touching metal contacts somewhere. Capacitive sensors also have a configurable range, so it can work through objects.
but there are plastic caps too
To be fair, Dyson is an expert of copper wound motor technologies in compact and energy efficient form factors…
One pro dyson dude
WHAT 🤷🏼♂️
@@matt.stevickwhat do you think headphone drivers are? Speakers (and microphones, for that matter) are primarily electromagnets.
@@Ramnik72 go to Dysons website, or any product page. They break apart their motor technologies and it makes up most of their advertising.
It’s their play
Dyson electric guitars when?
editor please note when snipping audio/clips, it's good to put a little fade in/out of the volume of the clip/audio because otherwise the audio will start with it's polarity NOT at 0, and this will cause a little audible blip/crack/snap when the newly spliced clip/audio starts and ends
edit: this is most notible on his voice and especially in tight/short edits

“Active Noise Cancellation” I guess
The "because we can" headphones
Pretty sure the phrase "but should we though" is banned at Dyson.
Marcus is the only one that can make a 50 min video feel like a couple of minutes
Hi your one of my favorite TH-camrs
I like the design and the customization. For a -second- first attempt, they got a lot right.
The price, weight and sound quality for the price are deal breakers for me.
It would have been a clever implementation to swap the back plates out for an external sound. It would have been good to be able to lie them flat so more people could listen if needed.
You know what, since the release of XM4 (August 2020) no other headphones have come close to the value and quality.
xm4 user here: my previous NC headphones were the surface headphones 2 and they were quite a bit cheaper with better controls, better build and more comfortable. the NC was about 85% of the sony's, and the sound quality was 90% there. (i am a music producer as well so yeah)
My XM4’s broke so I got XM5’s
I wish I got another pair or XM4’s instead :(
@@madgick3 Same! 😭
I have the XM4 and the momentum 4s, and all around, I'd say it's close. I like having the extra battery on the momentums, though.
These intro are so clean
this ratio is clean
@@9icoWhat ratio? 💀
As somebody who is a total tech layman, it was funny when you said the price. I was like "Ah yeah, just headphones, how much can it be? $100?" and then you said $500 and I thought that was exorbitant! And then you told me the Apple version is MORE expensive?! We all lead different lives...
The physical build quality of these is impressive. This is all too rare today.
Agree, build looks good and I fell getting the sound right is almost the easy part…maybe next iteration. Happy to have high end competition
Noise cancelling vacuum?
They recently released their first robot vacuum cleaner which requires an app to control. They are expanding their smart home portfolio.
Let's hope Dyson doesn't make a car.
kudos for replacable earcups which are not just the foam but also the inside fabric. After owning three pairs of anc over ear headphones, I know that they will stink after 2 years of usage, but being able to change as much as possible on the inside might help.
man they did it again🤦♀️
NGL that 55hr battery life makes me wanna get them still lol
1:07 i thought marques will throw them off the stairs 🤣
😂😂
0:20 Bro look like a Decepticon with that air filter on his face. 😂

Intros have been insane recently!!!
Nah I think they're great
Mental mate
They're normal lol
I'm confused why every time there's people fascinated with his intros while they do look good but they're not something out of the ordinary
@@talion7268 Exactly, I think it's just stupid people
I tried a lot of different "high-end" casual headphones and Imo I would say that either the Sennheiser m4 or the Sony xm5 is the best headphones out their.
Sennheiser: Super crystal clear sound, german quality.
Sony XM5: Best NC out their, worst touchbar ever, can't do any workout without the xm5 deciding to change or pause the song (can take this function away in their app)
Both of these headphones are also way cheaper then the Dysons and Airpods max.
Many cheap headphones do this because they need a gimmick
maybe just buy 4 better different ones then...
Marques: "These headphones are insanely heavy!!!"
Audeze LCD4 user: "Pfffft. Puny man." *flexes neck muscles*
😂😂 true
+1 for Audeze Maxwell
I bet they sound a lot better while being in the same price range
I think it’s cool that Dyson is adding more products to its repertoire. Hopefully they build some world class headphones soon.
Because we are talking about it right now.
colours are tuff
0:26 Marques questioning his decisions in life
🤣🤣
Personally, I find myself drawn to them. The customization really nails it home for me. I mean the matte pastel color choices are just chef's kiss. If I didn't already have a fairly recent pair of headphones, I'd consider these if they were ever on sale.
Buy some used Audeze instead, far better sound quality unless you're buying them as a fashion accessory.
That joystick control is sooo much better than those annoying gestures on my Sony XM5.
love that joystick. sonys touch controls are alright but i would prefer the stick.
My xm5s are great but they can be unpredictable as hell
You missed the most important thing. How well do they block the noise of the Dyson vacuum? How good is the vacuum integration?
The new colour options look spectacular!! 😮😮
7:27 I like how TH-cam shows comments with a timestamp during that part of the video now.
How do you guys do that? I haven't been able to figure it out.

But what a great use for the air filter, haha!! That scene cracked me up.
18 seconds in - best still frame face ever. Wish I could share the screen grab I took. 😂
"Stupid air purifier part" is a very strong word!🤣🤣🤣
Pretty sure that's 4 words
8:22 - $300? but these are 66% more than that... at $500.... so you'd think that extra $200 would get you better audio :/
If they are like the Dyson Zone headphones, you can also tap anywhere on the 3 metal parts on the head pieces, at the top, to turn noise cancelling on and off. Not just the ear piece. Hope that helps.
The ear cushions looks like plain donuts 😂
I love how Dyson designs all their products idk what it is about them, but dang they all look futuristic without being bland and minimalist
actually love the design on these especially the all black configuration

That is some sorcery right there. Literally can't see the edit viewing it frame by frame.

The unsung hero of the Dyson empire are their hand dryers you get in most public restrooms… let them have some fun
The best invention they came up with
A, N and C scrabble pieces in the background. Neat.
Over-ear headphones should be the standard for work-from-home setups-earbuds are uncomfortable for long calls and don't provide the same audio immersion for productivity.
This is the way.
Airpods for fun and out and about. My big over ears for office/home work.
Dyson reaction: Phew!
Fisker reaction: Roll eyes!
😹😹😹😹
Dyson's most employees are engineers. Not many tech companies can say that. It is a Gen 2 product. Rome was not built in a day. They learn and adapt. The app will change over time as well. It pushes innovation. Everyone should agree that is a good thing. Compared to the first vacuum they pushed out, people said it would fail, but to 2024 they sold millions worldwide. Like most of the comments say where are they going with this? Audio environmental health?
This man turned a joke into a series with hope, despair, loss and hype. He deserves every bit of recognition he has and even beyond that
i want a dyson phone so bad , so i can vacum the floor while taking calls all in one
