The Zephyrus is everything I want from a laptop: compact size but enough power for gaming and other resource intensive tasks. I also love that it doesn't have the typical "gamer PC" aesthetic.
The price is very reasonable for the specs, which blow my current laptop out of the water. Gonna go with the 40 gb RAM 1 tb ssd model or maybe wait til they release a 144hz 1440p model
Great review! After watching a lot of helios 300 vs. other laptop reviews, I’m still going with Helios 300. At the end of the day, what matters most is the price-performance ratio. Idc how the laptop looks physically or if it sounds scary during start-up, as long as the performance is very much worth the price.
Upcoming 2021 Legion 5 and Legion 5 Pro will have even better price to performance ratio than Helios 300. Ik this comment is 8 months old. I just want to spread info for the ones who will buy just now.
Well, I bought myself the Helios 300 on October and I’ve been loving how good it is! Every good thing people say are true! Thermals are also good, which its like a big pro for me :-) hope this helps someone in doubt. I would say that the only downside its his battery life.

I don't understand why Asus did that, specially when it's more than obvious the thermals can go up to 105ºC and any gaming test would clearly showcase it. Imo it's not a conspiracy, someone didn't get the memo or everything was rushed.

For anyone wondering the g14 has many things running in the background that drain battery life. There's a reddit thread that helps fix it and it improves battery life to over 10 hours non gaming.
Damn, the G14 almost seems too good to be true. It’s got very few small flaws and isn’t outrageously priced. You’d think there’s gotta be some sort of big catch.
@@JarrodsTech Oh and I think the catch is the price variance between regions : top end config in the US is 1449$. In Europe (France here) same config goes for about 2000€. Yep. Was kinda bummed because even if you add 20% VAT, it leaves ~200€ of markup. Like almost always, prices for tech are good... in the US. Kinda like the iPhone SE being almost 500€ here :///
The fan control on this thing is outrageously bad. They have a silent mode, which is not at all silent, not even really quiet. It's the only real downside I can see. But I wouldnt really take this thing to the library and that kinda sucks. There is an option for manual mode and the cpu stays cool, when you turn off the fans completely, but the damn thing cant be selected if you dont connect a charger.
@Harry Poter As you can see I made this comment 5 months ago. I did some research about 2 months ago and I’m also aware that Acer’s products have poor quality. I avoided Acer and switched to Lenovo. An average Acer laptop would not last more than 3 years if not taken care of and at worst, as early as 1 year after purchase the laptop dies. Anything but Acer is a good choice in 2021. Well not really though. There are people who buy Acer laptops at the same time know about computers however, they don’t (and will not) accept the fact that Acer products are somewhat poor quality.
After everything I’ve heard about the Helios, after all the validation that this was the best possible option for the money, I came here to validate my purchase even more and now here’s a better laptop... whatever, I like the look of the Helios more.
Its actually really good I found a way to get around the decent performance on highest settings external monitors really help with ghosting and fps surprisingly

Acer helios 300 which is manufactured in April 2020 has WiFi 6 killer card. Atleast for me, it came as a sweet surprise. I love Acer for doing that for the customers ♥️
This was such a well done and thorough comparison. Excellent! I really like the G14 despite the slower response time being someone who plays games like Witcher 3 or Elder Scrolls Online where Response times at 3ms isn't critical. In fact it might be perfect for Elder Scrolls Online which is such a CPU heavy game. Lesson everyone should have picked up with either, get a cooling pad :-).
Thanks for the comparison video. The helios 300 seems to set a very high bar in terms of gaming performance for the price. A lot of laptops are either slower or does not justify their price in terms of gaming performance. I can't wait to see how much of an improvement there will be if Acer changes to a 10th gen i7 CPU and maybe a higher wattage RTX 2060.
so far G14 is my choice because of it's size, ability to be powered via type-c and decent performance. Wonder if you know any laptops which actually were quieter comparing to G14? Intel 10th gen needs 2-3x more power to compete to 4900HS in Blender, covered it in the 10875H vs 4900HS comparison. Ryzen 4000 is mad power efficient.
just ordered me a helios 300 2020, with 2070 max q, glad to know I can turn off my fan at night and just run benchmarks non stop all night on the helios for the sound.
While the Helios is definitely better as a gaming machine, the G14 is just generally better at being a laptop. It's smaller and more portable, has better speakers, a bigger battery, looks WAY better in a professional setting, and has a fingerprint scanner which also doubles as a power button. The Webcam and lack of Ethernet are the only real downsides and I already bought a webcam because of the whole work from home thing, and ethernet to USB dongles are really cheap. Also that Ryzen 9 is a beast.
For a casual gamer who needs a laptop to do research and write my thesis, the G14 will do perfect. The extra 800 grams of weight just sounds much heavier than the extra 8-10 frames you'll get in games with the Helios.
Just bought one online here waiting for it to arrive in the mail in a day. There's quite a lot of naysayers that are DIY kind of guys dont get me wrong I always recommend people to invest in interchangeable parts or pure builds but this is almost too good to pass up. Especially for gaming.

I mean this laptop has the best graphics card I have ever seen. I pre-ordered cyberpunk2077 and plan to play it on the G14 and possibly Yakuza: Like a dragon! Currently playing Shadow of War on max settings! Steam is Awsome! 80% discount on games! I also run with boost off and I use a cooling system as well! it helps alot with the heat! please think about the heat when buying this laptop! Had to watch youtube videos to work my way around the machine getting too hot and it mainly has to do with messing with performance settings to turn that boost off !
Aluminium and "magnesium alloy" are the same thing. They add a little bit of magnesium (along with some other elements) to the aluminium to create a stronger material.
I have recently owned a Helios 300 that comes with an intel 9750H equipped with an RTX 2060 GPU, and from what I've learned from it is that it come's with an intel AX200NGW modem with a Killer brand printed on it which is also a wifi 6, and even though it comes undervolted out of the box i still manage to gain additional -135 offset voltage from it with ThrottleStop in a non Turbo mode. Somehow the GPU was already in maxed OC when turning turbo on so I didn't bother on overclocking it. The good part is that with the turbo on, I can gain around 10FPS from most new triple A game titles at max settings. The only problem is that it might annoy some user's bcoz of it's ridiculously loud fan when running in turbo mode.
U bought the ryzen 7 g14 model. This will be my first gaming laptop. I've never owned a gaming laptop before. I love emulating games so. This laptop seems perfect to emulate games with. I was using my phone to emulate games. But I'm getting tired of using my phone.
Next please make G14 2021 edition vs Triton 300 SE comparison. basically same size class and maybe same price range and almost similar spec (except for one important part)

I changed my mind from the Acer Predator Triton, I kept thinking to myself, might as well spend the last several hundred more and go with state of the art and not cut any corners. honestly, for gamers it depends on where they are kinda some countries have varying actual pricing, so helios could be cheaper than g14 or other way around but if i were to choose, id use the G14, i just want to type, game and watch. i dont care much about the keyboard or the lack of ethernet. it doesn't need much power too, just more than normal laptops. at least enough for 400+ frames krunker lmao

Another excellent video, Jarrod! I am looking at both of these laptops, and honestly, I would also consider buying the G14, if only because of the better portability and build quality (it reminds me so much of a MacBook Pro in terms of the rounded edges and clean, minimalist and professional styling). I only wished I had the $$$ to buy it while it was recently on sale last month (June 2020, for future readers of this comment). Also, having a RTX 2060, albeit the Max-Q version, is great for futureproofing. :)
I would get G14, it looks better, it has freesync so no screen tearing, 1 TB NVMe, also RTX 2060 which will support DLS2.0 that means even better framerates in the future and of course better CPU!

Jarrod, when you do size comparison, make sure you don't move the camera and just adjust the shot based on the size of the largest laptop. This way it'll be easier to understand size differences. You made the G14 look bigger than it the Helios. Also, your brightness graph has an error at 100% brightness. Did you notice any ghosting in the G14 compared to the Helios 300?
You should look into G14 battery life more. Many reviewers are giving varying results ranging up to 9hrs of TH-cam, and there are talks about driver issue and high idle GPU draw of the G14

I also run with boost off and I use a cooling system as well! it helps alot with the heat! please think about the heat when buying this laptop! Had to watch youtube videos to work my way around the machine getting too hot and it mainly has to do with messing with performance settings to turn that boost off !

Latest Intel i7 10 gen ACER Predator Helious 300 (2020) vesion.
I have recently owned a Helios 300 that comes with an intel 9750H equipped with an RTX 2060 GPU, and from what I've learned from it is that it come's with an intel AX200NGW modem with a Killer brand printed on it which is also a wifi 6, and even though it comes undervolted out of the box i still manage to gain additional -135 offset voltage from it with
ThrottleStop in a non Turbo mode. Somehow the GPU was already in maxed OC when turning turbo on so I didn't bother on overclocking it. The good part is that with the turbo on, I can gain around 10FPS from most new triple A game titles at max settings. The only problem is that it might annoy some user's bcoz of it's ridiculously loud fan when running in turbo mode.

U bought the ryzen 7 g14 model. This will be my first gaming laptop. I've never owned a gaming laptop before. I love emulating games so. This laptop seems perfect to emulate games with. I was using my phone to emulate games. But I'm getting tired of using my phone.

Ahhhhh, Jarrod, I know I mentioned I didnt need to watch your videos anymore because I finally decided on an MSI GE66 Raider 2080 Super Max . It releases in 6 days and I am so excited. I changed my mind from the Acer Predator Triton, I kept thinking to myself, might as well spend the last several hundred more and go with state of the art and not cut any corners. Anyywayyyy I just cant get enough of your videos. Keep up the good work!

honestly, for gamers it depends on where they are kinda
some countries have varying actual pricing, so helios could be cheaper than g14 or other way around
but if i were to choose, id use the G14, i just want to type, game and watch. i dont care much about the keyboard or the lack of ethernet. it doesn't need much power too, just more than normal laptops. at least enough for 400+ frames krunker lmao

Another excellent video, Jarrod! I am looking at both of these laptops, and honestly, I would also consider buying the G14, if only because of the better portability and build quality (it reminds me so much of a MacBook Pro in terms of the rounded edges and clean, minimalist and professional styling). I only wished I had the $$$ to buy it while it was recently on sale last month (June 2020, for future readers of this comment).
Also, having a RTX 2060, albeit the Max-Q version, is great for futureproofing. :)

I read that as dollars per kilo like we're ordering meat.
I would get G14, it looks better, it has freesync so no screen tearing, 1 TB NVMe, also RTX 2060 which will support DLS2.0 that means even better framerates in the future and of course better CPU!
But still the cpu is warm don't forget it use RTX 2060 max q

I'd save the money on the Helios given pretty sure blade is Max-Q, so way better performance per dollar there.

cool comparison! i might pick up the zephyrus when it goes on sale. just got it's little brother, an Asus zenbook 14 with ryzen 5 4500u and mx350 for $550+tax.

Jarrod, when you do size comparison, make sure you don't move the camera and just adjust the shot based on the size of the largest laptop. This way it'll be easier to understand size differences. You made the G14 look bigger than it the Helios.
Also, your brightness graph has an error at 100% brightness.
Did you notice any ghosting in the G14 compared to the Helios 300?
That's not possible in 90% of cases, I did not have these laptops at the same time, it is not possible to do. No ghosting for me.

You should look into G14 battery life more. Many reviewers are giving varying results ranging up to 9hrs of TH-cam, and there are talks about driver issue and high idle GPU draw of the G14
