my biggest issue with the lenovo is I wish it had atleast one thunderbolt port, would have been nice for future proofing if I want to get a thunderbolt dock, but then the legion slim 7 does not have an ethernet port which I use all the time both at home and also at my workplace

Jarrod i am desperately in need of your advice. I want to buy a legion pro 5i with 14900hx and rtx4070. I am scared that the temps on the i9 cpu will be crazy hot, do you have any experience with this cpu ?. If it is not good ,what is your opinion and what cpu should i choose for gaming which will not run extremely hot ?

I so appreciate your reasonable and fair explanations. So many other channels talk about how one laptop "destroyed" and "defeated" the other in performance tests that are less than 15 percent different. Here you attribute some of the difference to just luck (i.e. better silicon). And you could have really been tough on that Legion's screen, which is so much worse in every measurable way than the Helios. However, you keep pointing out that Lenovo offers another display option that will likely be comparable to the Helios' screen. Thanks, JT, for another great video. Have a great weekend man.

Hey Jarrod ! I have a Lenovo 5 Pro for over 2 years now and everything was amazing with it : gaming, productivity, 3d modeling. But like a month after the end of the minimal warranty, things started to go south : some keys of the keyboard failing to respond consistently, all the usb ports completely being useless except for charging devices... I took a warranty long enough so I hope that Lenovo will make it work again (amazing after-sale service though), but still I thought to give you my personal feedback on that beast that the Lenovo 5 Pro is (or was for now..).

As a computer shop employee, I often test new gaming laptops during my free time to provide accurate recommendations to our customers. Based on my observations, models from Acer, Asus, and MSI (High End) consistently perform well under continuous load. However, laptops from Lenovo, Dell, and HP tend to experience a noticeable drop in performance over time, sometimes even causing lag during gameplay.

I bought Acer Helios Neo 16 i7 14700hx and RTX 4060 Version. I wanted to go with Legion for the same specs but the only thing that stopped me from purchasing Legion was that it doesn't have Thunderbolt ports. It's 2024 and even $800 - $1000 laptops come with at least 1 thunderbolt Port.
I don't understand why Lenovo chose to not give Thunderbolt port in their laptops this year where as every other Brand is considering giving it away in their hier tier Gaming Laptops 🥲
Personally I am already happy with my Acer Helios Neo 16 since it's my first Gaming Laptop and Performance that offers this device is more than enough for me for Works like doing After Effects and Premier Pro and Davinci Resolve. I rarely do gaming 😅
It would be so hactic for me on the Legion because of its too much configurable settings in the Lenovo Vantage Software.

That was the deciding factor for me a couple years ago. I absolutely loved it and couldn't believe how much more convenient they were being on the back instead of being on the sides. If I could get 5 pro for good price, I would probably get 2023 model, but Im totally happy with 5i, nothing to complain about. I would say you can't go wrong with any of them, it just depends on your budget and specs you need, just get whatever have best deal with specs you need. After watching many videos I decided to go with rtx 4060 laptop, 4070 with 8gb was not worth it, but 4080 was outside my budget I wanted to spend at the monent. Hey Jarrod, I am planning to buy MSI Vector 16hx laptop. I was wondering if it would be possible to know your opinion since I am very confused. The Vector 16 hx has 240 watt power limit (65w cpu + 175w gpu), while the Vector 17 and Raider ge78 have 250 watt power limit (75w cpu + 175w gpu). What kind of performance difference can we expect between vector 16, and vector 17 or raider ge78 due to the 10w difference in power limit? The vector 16 costs 2700$, which is close to my budget, the ge78 costs 3000$, and vector 17 costs 2800$. Is it worth spending the extra amount for additional 10w cpu power? If there isn't major performance difference due to additional 10w power, then I will go for vector 16, since it will be little more portable. It will really help me if you can please give your opinion on this. Thanks a lot in advance

    Hi Jarrod!
I'm in a specs pickle at the moment. It happens that in my country, the Helios Neo 16 with i9 14th gen + 4060 is priced the same as the 2023 Legion 5 Pro with i9 13th gen + 4070.
I work from home, but it is mostly office stuff, and when I game I do on a 1080p 144hz monitor.
What would be the better pick, hands down? Thanks man!

    • @yesyesyesnoooo7762
      @yesyesyesnoooo7762 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

For me they're basically the same, 14th gen is just a bit bumped up 13th gen, 4070 is almost same as 4060 - because of the power limits you won't see the max potential for both unless you buy a Legion 7i Pro with 4080.
The only diff between them is the brand and the design. But I'm a Legion fanboy so I bought me myself a 2023 Legion 5i Pro with max specs (maybe same as one of your choices). It's great so far, I use it for video editing, the 4070 is a bit lacking if you'll be doing 3d stuff or any gpu intensive content creation projects but it plows down games like a snow plow in winter.
I'm happy for you whatever you choose man!

Acer blocks undervolting on their HX units. Complete deal breaker. Undervolting means huge efficiency gains - no performance loss + lower power.

Trying to find a good laptop undervolting is mandatory nowadays with these high performance chips, didn't know Acer locked it as I know all HX series are undervoltable.

I'm using acer Helios 16 from 2023. I've never needed to undervolt it, cooling is good by default.

@@lone5463 Yea sure buddy, I believe you. Come to tropical countries with 37-40C weather.
I'll give you workloads that'll make it throttle in seconds. Moreover undervolting is simply better for the longevity of the components.

Some people have mentioned hidden settings in BIOS of Helios, though others have denied it.

Helios have better cooling imo so that doesn't matter.moreover,i7 isnt that hot And I live in India and the temperatures of Helios is good.(one of my friend has this Helios laptop .) especially if you have in an Ac room.though i9 might get hot.but u can always use cooling pad .i think biggest problem with acer is after sales service.
