I just got the neo 16 for $1099 with an RTX-4060 and Intel 13700HX and a WQXGA 165HZ display what 500 nits of brightness! It also has 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports which is rare in this price point and can also be charged up to 100 Watts via the Thunderbolt port. While that wont give full power for gaming it will keep it running while using it and charge to full power while off. This is a big deal as the factory wall plugs for all these gaming laptops are insanely huge. Add in wifi 6E and the fact that both RAM ports can be replaced and there is an extra V4 NVME slot and this thing is an insane value for what you get. I want to mention that in the US there is no writing on the laptop cover, it is just plain with the predator logo.
Yep. I've had their gtx1650, 1060, 2060, and now 4060 models. They have improved their cooling drastically since 2018(use to overheat) and its become the best budget laptop on the market. I put in a 2tb samsung m.2 and replaced the ram with 32gb. Perfect for what I need with school and work. Its also nice having a 1440p screen for extra real estate
I really like this video. Everyone is talking about the other specs of the helios neo 16. I was searching for this very video, great comparison especially with a lower budget like myself searching for a gaming laptop.
I have the predator 16 with 13900HX/4080 and upgraded to 32GB 16x2 Gskill ripjaws 5600mhz CL40 and it is an absolute monster for a laptop in 2560x1600. 19426 in timespy and hit barely over 35k in firestrike(old test) on turbo. 11,262 in R20 and 13,433/846 in CPU-Z. Companies using Liquid Metal on retail units was the best idea since sliced bread. Love the laptop. Understand that this unit and no laptop out is going to compete with a 13900K and 4090 desktop and even less. Laptops aren’t supposed to, so don’t expect this unit or any mobile unit to even remotely compete with a high powered desktop. I’m hitting over 37k in timespy and over 50k in firestrike on my 13900k/4090/7000mhz desktop for a fair comparison. It is heavily overclocked as well. If you have a mild tech level and know how to tweak current hardware, get the predator 16 with the 4080 and withOUT the mini LED. Upgrading to 32GB 16x2 5600mhz CL40 is also necessary but cheap. They ship the unit with 16GB to reduce the retail over competitors. You won’t regret buying the unit at all.
for someone who doesn't have any idea how both laptop looks, I have difficulties recognizing the entry-level and high-end laptop since you keep switching their position left and right + the lack of labeling, this is just frustrating to watch
I was sure I read somewhere that the Helios 16 uses an aluminium alloy material while the Helios Neo 16 uses plastic. My Helios 16 feels like cold metal when it's off. The touchpad material is also different between the models, gorilla glass for the 16, plastic for the Neo 16. Something I dislike about the screen though is the dci-p3, since I view a lot of legacy content so it saturates the colours & I prefer a more natural look. Also these laptop CPUs get really hot.
11:57 holy crap. I had no idea this computer ever costed so much! I got mine refurbished directly through acer for about $1,500 which included taxes and shipping.
Enabling performance boot mode in the registry and modifying from aggressive to disabled or to efficient aggressive greatly improves the temp for the Helios 16 up to 20c less during gaming and does not effect performance.
hey bro i just bought mine with the i9 and rtx4070 do u recommend the i7 version because i see a lot of bad things about the i9 and the cpu being overused?
Would you recommend the Helios Neo 16 but with upgraded i9 and RTX 4070. I am interested in performance however I am not sure if its build and screen are good?
I am writing this comment from a Neo16 with a i9-13900HX, 32GB of RAM, and the 4070. I have owned this laptop for 3 weeks and so far it has been very impressive. The build is very good for the price. The screen is excellent for gaming and watching content, even in bright areas, but the color accuracy isn't perfect if you are a photographer who wants to edit your photos to perfection (but most gaming laptops have this flaw). Compared to my gaming PC with a 3080Ti, this laptop is 88% (I actually did the math based on framerates in different games) as powerful as my gaming PC, which is way above my expectations given the thermal limitations of laptops. Everything is perfect, I only have four complaints: - There is a microSD card slot instead of a full SD slot, which is annoying if you're a photographer - There is no fingerprint scanner - The laptop comes with a bulky and heavy 330W charger, but it uses less than 280W under full load, so the extra capacity is useless - The battery lasts lest than 3 hours in eco mode using low screen brightness and only doing light tasks like watching TH-cam.
One thing i forgot to add, the i9 is overpowered for this laptop. in most games the GPU will be at 99% while the CPU will be at 30%. If you can get this laptop with an i7 and a 4070 you wouldn't notice a difference.
I am typing this from my Neo 16 with the 4070. It is 85% as powerful as my gaming PC with a 3080Ti, which is very very impressive. It made my gaming PC basically useless.
Very loud on turbo yes, but it is not needed most of the time. Going for a more balanced setting is completely fine while gaming and it doesn't get as loud.
I really liked this video. I wish you could have benchmarked the Neo with the RTX 4060 though, because it's on sale for $1,100 at Best Buy in the US, and a lot of people are buying it.
