  • Hello friends
This week I'm collaborating with ‪@sewamelia‬ on a present next using a fabric we have had in our stash for a long time.
I made the Nautilus top into a dress.
The fabric is pigeon wishes rainbow seersucker.
You make a similar dress using
    www.chalkandno...
The chalk and Notch fringe dress
Or this one by Megan Nielsen
    megannielsen.c...
The Jane Gathered dress by the fabric store which is free
    blog.fabrics-s...
The gorgeous pouch comes from patternpouchne...

Thankyou so much for sharing all about how your dress came about! I love hearing all the details like that. And it turned out lovely! I get all inspired to get sewing today by watching your video. I have the choice to do some gardening which involves some heavy digging or continue with my sewing projects, and I think I choose the latter 😊 I’m making a sleeveless top/blouse with a button placket out of a thrifted cotton fabric remnant, a lovely Provence inspired floral print. I’m also embellishing a pair of zebra striped shorts (also thrifted as a pair of trousers) with appliques from the blouse fabric and some stencil prints. The colour scheme is pink, yellow, red, green etc. and black and cream in the shorts. Hurray for summer sewing! ☀️🤗

Your dress is so gorgeous! I totally agree with the timings - 5hrs for a day dress is a lot compared to 3 for such a detailed skirt! Thanks so much for doing the collab with me, and being so flexible!! ❤

Hi Sam. What a cheery dress. I'm glad you did the collab and cut into that great fabric. To me a casual dress is one made of cotton that doesn't have finicky washing instructions or fancy trim you have to be careful of and that is not so fitted as to be uncomfortable, so you can actually wear it all day. I guess it also means a dress you can actually do things in without having to be extra careful to not spill things on it or get it wet or sit on something a little bit rough or stress out a delicate fabric. In my mind, cotton searsucker is perfect. So is a sturdy quilting cotton, corduroy, cotton jersey, or cotton shirting. I love that you have the whole summer ahead in which to wear your new wonderful creation, Antonia

Thank you. Let's hope we get some sun in the UK. Not always guaranteed for summer. I agree with you about the definition.

Great vlog as always I agree with you about what a casual day dress is. Yours is fabulous and certainly fits the brief.i believe they do those timings for the entertainment and also the interpretation is probably encouraged again for entertainment ❤❤❤

Hi Sam! So great to see you! Your dress is very beautiful. I like your container for your buttons. I need to get a container like that because I just have a big bag of buttons
and I have to pour them all out to find what I want every time I make a button-up top! I haven't seen you over on my channel lately. I don't know if it's not coming up on your feed, but i'd love to see you.😅

What a lovely dress! I totally agree about the timings for the first episode of the Sewing Bee this time. There was so much time for the made to measure, definitely not enough for the pattern challenge, and a perfect amount for the transformation. Thanks for the video :)

I wish I could layout my pattern, cut and sew everything together in 5 hours, it sometimes takes me that long to choose my pattern placement 😳. I love your pattern choice and the dress looks amazing. Your button choice was spot on.
Have you thought about doing an ‘against the clock’ challenge collab connected to any of the sewing bee challenges? Light hearted obviously, using repurposed fabric. I know life can be tricky to squeeze in these things but you could stop and start the clock providing no work was completed during down time (ie unpicking, button placement etc). I think it would fit in so well with your style of vlog. Thanks for sharing xx

Thank you that is a great idea. Christine and I are planning to do the Busy Bee Sewing challenge again this year so we could include that. I'm glad you liked the dress. X

Love the touches with the buttons and trim on the sleeve. Just elevates it to such a little beauty of a dress. I can never comment on what a reasonable sewing time is; fatigue slows me down a lot so I am often quite surprised by other peoples' speed.

I totally understand what you mean about timings. I wish the programmes could find a non time based way to do it. But I just can't think how xx

The dress is lovely and you've really done justice to the fabric. I agree with you that some of the patterns the bees chose for a casual dress were a bit odd. Not sure about the timings - I think having to fit it on another person is time consuming if you're not used to doing it. Anyway I love both your and Amelia's dresses - great collab.

Love your dress, that fabric is gorgeous, thanks for the tip of not pressing seersucker until the garment is constructed. Five hours for a casual day dress did seem a lot when they were only given three and a quarter for the denim skirt. Most of the dresses fitted the bill, the long dress definitely wasn’t my idea of a day dress, loved the black and white dress that won made from a duvet cover and the one made from a tablecloth.
