Dinky restoration of Streamlined Fire Engine No. 25H. Year of manufacture 1936-1941. Toy.

This very old die-cast toy was created by the Meccano company in 1936. In the first year of production, it featured hand-painted tin figures of firefighters, which were dropped in later years. In the video, you can turn on subtitles in your language with a commentary on the action. Production continued until 1941. After the war, production of this model was resumed and continued throughout the 1950s. At that time, the model had a changed floor plate. My copy definitely dates from before World War II, because it contains a characteristic floor plate with a simulation of the drive system. I bought this model without tires, with a badly dented right side of the car. I made a very laborious straightening of the alloy with the use of wooden spreading pins. I copied a plexiglass ladder, cutting it with a laser like the original one, because my ladder model did not have it. I also used a signal bell from another model. I had a pair of these bells from flea market purchases. I also fitted new O-ring tires. In the early years of production of cast models, Meccano also used such o-rings. The actual fire engine on which this model was based was produced specifically for the London Fire Brigade in 1935 and designed by the Brigade's Chief Officer at that time, Mr C. B. Morris. I’m lucky enough to have one with a ladder, (albeit the original with original tyres) which is the same red as the body of the model. No bell of course and the original had less bright work painted silver at the rear. Doesn’t completely surprise me that it’s as old as is recorded here, given how old I am!
