Dinky 1947 renovation Vanguard No. 40 e. Toy, car model, cast.

After World War II, the Meccano company resumed the production of cast models and this is how the Vanguard car model was created, which was produced in 1947. Later versions of this model from the early 1950s differed in covered rear wheels. However, this model is definitely from 1947. In the video, you can turn on subtitles in your language with a commentary on the action - press the letter C on the keyboard or three dots on the mobile phone. My copy was badly damaged. Its casting was much better at enduring tinsmithing repairs than the harder castings from later years of production. Certainly, the addition of lead to the alloy meant that bent parts could be straightened without any problems. I painted this model in one of the colors used by Meccano. It was one of the rarer shades of this model. Because the model did not have a cockpit and windows, the renovation work went very smoothly. In the film, I compared this model with the Polish model of Warsaw M20, which was created under the license of the Russian Pobeda. The convergence of shapes is not without significance, because cars produced in communist countries were mostly copies of Western cars. Hi Paul, I just started my restauration taking the model apart. I saw that the rivet holes are quite big and a bit oval shaped. The M2 screws I have aren't wide enough, they fall through the holes.
What size screws do you use? I can find M2 screws online but they are 4 mm wide at the most. Regards from Holland

Back in the late 50s, early 60s, I owned 4 Vanguard sedans. I acquired them in pairs; all ran well when electrical connections were tightened. This was during my teen years in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I thoroughly enjoyed the Vanguards, and many other British made cars. They were all quite reliable, and fun to drive. Economical, too.

These Dinky without interior and glass are my favourite.
Vanguards were a solid car and the motor was the same that they gad in the Massey Ferguson tractors.
As a child back late 50s early 60s these were absolutely beautiful cars.

Another excellent piece,my father drove one when I was a baby I recall it as blue from an old slide photo of it in a ditch most were wrecked in NZ as they were popular demolition derby cars known for body strength I think most were gone by the end of the 1970s.Humber snipes we’re another sort after for Derby’s in the same era. Do you think the two tone was original or were they only one colour from factory?

Kolejna praca gdzie musiałeś poświęcić dużo czasu. Byłem pewien że zostaniesz przy oryginalnym kolorze. Oczywiście tak też jest super. Mam pytanie odnośnie opon. Zamawiasz na wymiar czy mają dostępne od ręki w każdym. Pozdrowionka 👍

Dziękuję serdecznie. Te opony to są normalne Oringi, dostępne w firmach które sprzedają łożyska, Należy tylko wybrać odpowiedni rozmiar, jest tych rozmiarów bardzo dużo. Ja wybieram akurat w tym przypadku 7 x 4 mm dlatego aby Ta opona była zgodna z oryginalną. A właśnie dinki do roku 1952 stosowało takie Oringi na koła bez żadnych bieżników. Dlatego jest to najprostszy sposób na wymienienie koła. Później wprowadzili opony z bieżnikami , no i wtedy już muszę posiłkować się poliuretanem odlewniczym z barwnikiem czarnym. Pozdrawiam serdecznie
