Quaker parrots are the best talkers & imitators in the small bird or parrots, however, IRN’s are more popular of a pet due to their cuteness. Hamlet is a good talker for an IRN, as is Tamara’s chicken, with Bloob being very social & talkative as well. I’ve known Greys that have never spoke a word, where B&G’s don’t stop talking. It all depends on the individual parrot or birdie & the environment they are subjected to. They do have voice boxes that can go into the largest of birds cages to assist in helping them repeat a phrase & can be changed when they learn it. A television or radio played during the time that humans aren’t around also can help stimulate a bird beginning to speak & continuing to speak.
I read once that in the wild, parrots have been shown enjoying showing off and teaching each other new noises they’ve heard or made up. So amazing to see Gizmo and Bloob being able to experience that natural behaviour in captivity ❤
Yes language actually comes fairly natural to most parrots. In the wild the even assign specific calls to specific members of the flock like names, and have a variety of calls with different meanings. My parrot doesn't talk often, but after years of learning her sounds and body language, I can usually pretty easily decipher what she want or is trying to communicate. She probably understands me better than I understand her though. It's almost creepy lol.
The other day I ran across a video where they did a study during quarantine which wanted to see if given a tablet, their own FaceTime app and a choice, would birds choose to talk to other birds. They found they would choose to talk to the same birds over and over, forming relationships, and though the study has ended they’re still calling one another today. I also thought it was very sweet Giz told Bloop “I love you”. For having all of those homes, he’s amazingly healthy, both physically and mentally!
Fascinating I didn’t know about that study but I can tell you I have 2 animals that when gizmo comes on they will stay glued too the tablet or big screen lol but they’re French bulldogs that think they are birds lol 😆

I had a Senegal and miss him so much! People have no idea how intelligent and interactive parrots are as pets. The flip side is that folks dont have any clue how much work it is because they are so intelligent and need that interaction. Gizmo has a fantastic vocabulary and plays with it all the time. He's an accomplished comedian! I've met outstanding equine and feline comedians, but each of their styles is different. Fascinating.

It is seriously crazy how these birds can make all those vocalizations...and do them pretty much exactly the same each time....including pitch and tone.
I find it fascinating how obviously they understand the language and Gizmo can correctly identify so many things and use the words correctly And yet when alone it's just a random jumbled-up Babble basically of different phrases and sounds. And there doesn't seem to be communication back and forth between them at least not in English. They're just fascinating creatures! And thank you for sharing them with us❤

My favorite part was when Gizmo said, "I like parrots, but they startle me," followed by him swearing. That sure cracked me up! Or when Giz said, "you want to step up?" And then you hear, "me do. Come on. Come on, come on." Such a comical video! I'm shocked how much stuff the other bird can say! For an Indian Ringneck, I'm sure that's a super high vocabulary, because other ones I see only seem to say a handful of words and it gets boring fast, but this little guy is super smart!

The fact that they can learn words is amazing enough, but they can also imitate voices? That's mind blowing.
My favorite part was when Gizmo said, "I like parrots, but they startle me," followed by him swearing. That sure cracked me up! Or when Giz said, "you want to step up?" And then you hear, "me do. Come on. Come on, come on." Such a comical video!
I'm shocked how much stuff the other bird can say! For an Indian Ringneck, I'm sure that's a super high vocabulary, because other ones I see only seem to say a handful of words and it gets boring fast, but this little guy is super smart!
