    Congratulations!! I have a 2011XFR silver with red & black interior, which I've never seen on other XFR's. Here's what I can tell you of my experience. I live in the states in a area with good roads. I've replaced 2 wheels & one repaired, these wheels just bends easy. The water pump is known to go early, usually before 50k, mine went at 40k. I had to replaced both rear wheel hubs. Jag suggests changing oil at 10K intervals, I changed mine at 5K. Jag said transmission fluid is good for life, I changed it at 30K. The car runs like a beast and the top speed is insane. On a open highway I've blown way past the 185 last number on the speedometer. Enjoy the ride, I can't wait to see the final results.

      Jody, any other unusual repairs on your XFR? I’m looking to buy a 2012 XFR but wonder about having to do a lot of service repairs. Have you ever thought of putting 19” rims on your Jaguar?

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jody. I didn't have a chance to respond earlier. So we both have a 2011 XFR - snap! So far, I'm loving my car. I've also had the tranny oil changed - video coming out this evening about it - and this week, I've just had the brakes changed - video coming out next week on that. The brakes were extremely expensive to do but at least I know now I can stop on a dime. I took mine up to 200kph on the highway while testing it the other day and that speed came up just as fast as a McDonalds Burger at a drivethru. I am amazed at the acceleration and the higher the speed, the more stable the car seems to become. It likes pouncing at top speed across the highways. Town driving is not its niche, but it's still comfortable and that suspension does such a better job of soaking up the undulations than my X260 ever did.

    • @matthew4659
      @matthew4659 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hilton,
      Just how expensive was that brake service?? Did you just replace the pads or did you mess with the rotors? ;-((

    • @jodyroper5105
      @jodyroper5105 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carfanfan Yes, the acceleration from 80 to 180 is insane. I find that acceleration way more impressive than the quarter mile.

    • @jodyroper5105
      @jodyroper5105 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthew4659 you have to change the rotors and the pads at the same time. You cannot alter the rim size to 19. I did the brakes and rotors myself, I can't tell you how much it would cost you at a shop. I remember I got a price quote and it was extremely high in the thousands for front and back.

    I purchased a 2010 supercharged XF in white with saddle leather and 62k miles from an older guy who did all the services before they were due. Love the car and recently took it on a 2500 mile trip. It performed flawlessly and in the desert on a staightaway did over 150mph for a few minutes. Felt planted to the road and never skittish. What a car! People think it's new and can't believe it's 10 years old. Enjoy yours.

    Congrats! I have had my XFR for 5 years now with no issues. You are going to have to change all the fluids (coolant, power steering, brake fluid, trans, oil and diff) every 50k, and all plastic coolant pipes/rubber hoses in the engine every 10 years. There is one behind the s/c that can split on the seams on the older cars. The 2013's and up changed the seam pattern. Plan on changing the timing chain tensioners before 60k because your year are plastic. JLR made an updated hardened metal one. There is a kit you can buy to do it from the range rover guys. One more thing there is a rectangle mechatronic seal in the transmission that is plastic and cracks, and it will lunch your trans if left broken. There is a guy on eBay selling billet aluminum seals to replace the plastic one for good. Search "billet mechatronic seal xkr" otherwise you will have to keep buying plastic ones every time they break. They all break eventually. Oh and the factory wheels are notorious for being $#!+. I cracked mine the first week i owned the car hitting a pothole less than 1 in deep. Had to get them welded. Plan on getting a *forged* wheel to replace them. Stock tires are garbage too. Im running Firestone Indy 500's they are 9.9/10 of a Michelin 4S for 1/3 the $$. I was stunned they shaved off .5 seconds off the 0-60 time and improved cornering and braking...

      Thanks for the info. I don't do much mileage with my XFR, mostly weekend cruising. But it's going for a major service in February next year when it's annual comes up and will have the s/c pulley, belt, oil, diff oil, plugs etc replaced. In the meantime, I'm trying to resolve a vibration which comes in at 70mph. I've had the wheels changed, so its not wheels and the tires were just replaced too. I suspect the shocks or gearbox mount or engine mounts.

    Hey, great car Hilton. I upgraded my 2011 3.0D S to a 2014 XFR-S and I just love that V8 burble. And the power / torque combination is awesome. There is a good Jaguar XFR Speedpack rear spoiler that would suit really well. Jaguar part number C2Z2A163LML. Be sure to get the correct boot harnesses to go with that.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, from a 3L D to an XFR-S. The R-S is the big daddy of the XF's. Mine is more like the eldest son in the line-up :D - I considered installing that insane carbon spoiler the XFRS gets, you know, the ironing board? But it's just way too expensive and there is no aftermarket one. AliExpress have something similar, but it looks aftermarket and that's not going to do for me. So I'm going to go with the carbon fiber spoiler I had on my old XF which is a little more pronounced than the standard XFR spoiler and lips over the trunk a little more to give more down-force as well as more aggression. I think it's going to look awesome.

    Hi Hilton, love your Jag videos. I bought an XFR over 3 years ago and it’s definitely the best car I’ve owned. Within weeks I had the famous triple upgrade added: s/c pulley upgrade, remap and, of course, a Spires exhaust. The remap before the exhaust change certified the power as 595! And the difference is amazing. It is truly digital driving, overtaking is instant. But the sound is what makes the experience so rewarding. Probably the best V8 you will ever hear. Mine is Italian racing red on black but I am very envious of your interior.
    By the way your door rattle is because the foam separating cables in the door has perished. Do all 4.

    You seem to have found a hidden gem there, I'm pleased for you! I've now had my X250 XF R-Sport 2.2 diesel facelift for four months now and I absolutely love it! Its interior is black and the cream looks much better but that's the only thing I'd change. Even though it's only a 2.2, it lollops along lazily at 70mph , and has eager acceleration at lesser speeds. Out of the three models, I think the X250 facelift is the nicest-looking and I like having four rotating airvents, rather than just the two on the X260. It's little things like that which make a difference!
    I wish you many happy miles in your new toy.

    Looks a lovely car Hilton and I'm sure you will work through all the issues and it will end up perfect. I took your advice about the polarity sensitive T10 LED bulbs. Now fitted and I'm delighted! I do have another issue with my 2011 3litre diesel XF. My air con stopped working. I took it to a local garage to get them to investigate and they basically let me down completely. Told me they had carried out a pressure test and thought the car needed a new compressor. Now these are about £500 so I am reluctant to replace it until I know for sure it will fix the problem. I asked the garage if they had dye tested the system which they hadn't. They don't do that apparently! Seems to me that it is vital to do this to highlight any possible leaks. To merely pressure test could result in having the refrigerant replaced and pressurised then who knows, a week later it could be flat again! Don't know if you have had any air con issues but would be good to have your view.

    • @jonnygti
      @jonnygti 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don’t know which country you’re from, but in the U.K. I found a local mobile air con specialist, they came to my house, and got my air con working in 45 minutes. It’s an older car 2005, which when I bought it the air con wasn’t blowing cold enough. He pressure tested it and drained out the small amount of gas that was left in the system, didn’t find any leaks thank god! So all was good, then he re-gassed the system with dye I believe and it also has the oil in it aswell that lubes the system when it’s turned on. He said leave the engine running for 10minutes after he’s gone, then I can turn it off and I’m good to go. This cost the very small amount of £69 (in the U.K.). It’s ice cold now in literally less than one minute from starting the engine😎👍🏻
      This was a good working air con system with no leaks or issues though, if you have other problems or leaks then obviously you’re going to need more than a re-gas!

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ali - my previous X260 XF had a/c issues. Turns out it was leaking where they top it up. That entire big silver pipe had to be replaced (not very costly) and then it worked fine again. This XFR also had a/c issues (or so the owner told me as he had it fixed). Rats gnawed the wires for the a/c in the engine bay to the compressor, so it wouldn't work at all. Have an auto electrician check it out first for wiring issues - the compressors on these cars don't give in that easily. My bet is it's wiring.

    I have the first gen XF 3.0 Diesel. I drove the mk2 version when I got mine serviced, it drives much better. The original XF I can compare to like driving with Wellington boots on, the mk2 is like driving with sneakers on. Much more smoother and lighter. The mk3 I haven't driven, but from what you've told us in your videos, seems a bit cheap and nasty. My vote is for the facelifted mk2 version. Also, the replacement service mk2 i drove was white, with the blacked out grille and wheels, and also had the body kit yours has.I preferred it much more than my all over silver and chrome one. I think the white and black facelift model is the perfect XF. It looks sporty on the outside yet classy inside, not cheap and modern.

    Sticky buttons, I imported my car, I bought new in Qatar, ( X250, 340Hp V6, mine is Polaris white has the same interior cream leather) into the UK.
    The Butyl coating goes funny in very hot conditions, but be very careful what you use to get the coating off.
    I used Iso-Propyl alcohol, but if you rub too hard the white legend paint on the buttons will come off as well.
    It took me several hours to get that awful coating off as it just balls up into gooey messy lumps and migrates into the hard to reach gaps between the button edges and the escutcheons.
    Great project though! I'll be interested to see what you do to it.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Henry. I started on the buttons today and it has proven to be timeous job. I'll continue with it over the weekend again and probably still into next week. I found it easier to just remove the wood trim with the lock/unlock buttons on it as the car kept unlocking. The a/c controls will be my next project and yes, one has to be careful of the white painted icons as they do easily come off. I used WD40 on a white micro fiber clothe and it worked well. Also helps if the weather is hot as the sticky stuff comes off easily then.

As it turned out, there's only one set with the right specs, Pirelli SottoZero, developed for the SV8 and XFR models, there isn't any other choice. If I may give an advice, checking the quality of the fuses in the fuse table located in the boot may be a good idea, they may be burnt or oxydized. If so, they can cause funny moments. The whole fuse table had to be changed in my kitty, I have a pre facelift X250 SV8. Since your beast's a much younger unit, maybe the quality of the fuse table has been upgraded, but the devil never sleeps. Cheers! Peter

    I just love that car! Reaching out to you from Tx. (USA) Now let me tell you about my Jaguar experience. I acquired a 2014 FXR, 53000 miles when I got it. In 2018, November to 2019 November; I thought I had my "DREAM CAR." It was exactly like yours...nothing was wrong with it and like I said. Almost to the date, the turbocharger needed to be replaced. So we know as a Jaguar owner, there are two. $3500 a piece and $8500 later I got rid of my dream. Becareful... I love how you are not attached to them. Keep the clips coming, way to go Hilton.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. This car is fitted with a supercharger which is one single unit on top of the engine. They too give trouble, but only after lots of abuse. Luckily, this one is not making any rumbles as the bearings at the back sit in sealed oil and can seize and the viscous coupler in the front of the snout becomes worn (it's plastic) and has to be replaced. It's not a cheap job to have done, but it's better than replacing the whole s/c. I'm comfortable that I can handle it, but yeah, if it starts becoming too expensive to repair, I'll let it go and get an XJ ;)

    Hey Hilton, congratulations I think you made the right choice, while the X260 is nice and modern I always prefer the face lift GEN 1 XF, especially XFR. The color combination is gorgeous, like you I love light colored interior, my XF was black on black and it was so cold and LOL sterile. Such low miles, seems like a good buy, as you know because you do your research there are some common problems like the water pump and the injectors, my water pump was replaced, and my injectors went out at 140,000 miles right after my boyfriend rear ended someone and we got rid of the car, perhaps make sure you do a periodic injector cleaner. My 2010 XF power steering column also made a noise, kind of like a squeak, it was a unique noise and would happen when I moved it or when it auto adjusted when I opened the door, it never failed on me but I did a lot of research on Jaguar forms and I bought the PAS additive, yes it is for the power steering fluid but a lot of guys on the forums swear that it helped the squeak in the column, I never had the chance to put it in and I still have mine I would totally give it to you but shipping from San Diego to South Africa wouldn’t be worth it LOL perhaps I will get an XFR someday, I remember your videos on your B5 Audi A4 which was my first car and I always thought it cool that we had similar taste in cars LOL I will definitely follow your journey congratulations and good luck, I hope you’re staying safe and sane in these crazy times- Nick

      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nick. Thanks for your wonderful comments. I had no idea you followed my videos from that way back. I loved that Audi A4, after spending 3 times on it than it was worth, it became a very reliable runner and we just sold it a year ago. Probably the car I ever had the longest. Yeah, you totally must get an XFR before you leave this world. I made the commitment that I would even if I regretted it, but I'd rather regret owning one than regret not ever knowing what it would have been like. You only live once hey :D.
      Thanks for the advice on the steering column. I haven't had a chance yet to look into it - just switched the auto function off until I can in case it does decide to cave in. Sorry to hear your black XF was in a fender bender. I'd probably do the same if mine was ever in an accident. They're never the same afterwards. It's kinda like if your boyfriend cheats on you and you still keep him around - never the same LoL
      I'm sure you'll get an XFR one day soon. I could have gone for an XKR or one of the sportier 2 door Jags, but one expects that to have a performance engine. The XFR surprises many when they hear it rumble by. And that's what I love about it. It's easy to live with and it still turns heads. Thanks for watching and stay safe my friend ;)

      Thanks pal. I agree, I want to keep these wheels. I'm going to have them repaired and painted gloss black. We'll see if they can indeed be repaired first as one is badly buckled and bent so I'm not sure. The car actually drives beautifully still for such horribly bent wheels so I can only imagine how it will drive with straight wheels and new rear tires.

    That’s a lovely looking XFR you’ve picked up😎
    Glad the trip wasn’t a waste of time, I bet you felt abit pissed off when you were driving away with your offer declined! Then you got the call!
    Do you think the wheels, squeaks are related, as it was driven down bumpy farm roads, perhaps it’s made parts of the trim come loose and just needs adjusting?
    Also worth checking ASAP is the cabin filter, I’m willing to bet that since it was owned by an older couple it may not have had the filter changed, they often get over looked, also if it’s in a farm environment it maybe pretty yucky! Not sure about there but in the U.K. a mechanic won’t touch the cabin filter on a normal service, it’s only if you pay top dollar for a comprehensive service, that it would actually get changed.
    Regarding the exhaust that some have mentioned, for me that sounds perfect, just enough noise, while not being too loud to annoy neighbours, and not a horrible drone on the motorway! I’d leave it personally! But it’s your car at the end of the day.
    Look forward to following your journey on the car 👍🏻

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jonathan. The seat squeak was actually from the seat being too far forward and the seat belt mechanism rubbing against the center console. The B&W speaker grill hasn't rattled since I left the seller :D. The door rattle is a definite issue and I'll attack it on a video hopefully soon because it's annoying. I think the door pad was off previously and they didn't clip the cable that runs from the inner door to the outer door handle as it has a little clip and they often don't clip it back. I think the rim damage was definitely caused by farm driving. I'm currently trying to figure out how to get them repaired, so it will mean jackstands for 2 weeks while they get repaired and painted gloss black. The quote to repair all 4 wheels is less than the cost of 1 wheel alone, so I'm happy with that result as long as the repairs are 100% good otherwise I must try and source other wheels which will be hard since not many XFR's have ended up in salvage yards.
      As for the exhaust, you are right, it is pretty loud now - we live in an estate and have rules, so it could become an issue to my neighbors if I have a loud exhaust. Especially coming home late at night and waking them up - wouldn't be nice.
      When I take the car for a roadworthiness check, they will tell me if there is anything else wrong. It doesn't feel like it because it drives pretty solid with now suspension noises even after those badly buckled wheels have given it a thorough workout. I checked all the linkages and the boots are all fine too. Steering is solid and pin point accurate. It actually had a cabin filter replaced in January this year when they took it in for it's first service in over 3 years. They also did the air filters and oil and brake fluid, but skipped spark plugs and s/c belt. Spark plugs and s/c belt are the most expensive part of the service. It's okay though, I'll do it on it's next service as I don't do much mileage myself - this will always be a low mileage car ;)

    • @jonnygti
      @jonnygti 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      JagFan Hilton sounds like you’ve got it all covered then, and sounds like you got an absolute bargain, the faults seem very minor and easily fixed, so I think it’s money well spent on your part. You will have sink some cash into it but it’s definitely worth it, given the condition inside and out, and low mileage.
      I’ve never had wheels damaged in such a way, so I don’t know if there repairable, hopefully they are, because for me, it’s the kind of car where you need the stock wheels, and having that “supercharged” lettering on them means they have to stay really! in my opinion, gloss black could look very nice against the white bodywork. I quite like gunmetal grey rims on a white car too. Good thing with dark wheels, it hides the brake dust 😁
      Keep us updated with the jag, and enjoy 👍🏻

      Hey Paul. Pity you don't live here so we could hook up for a tandem drive. I was also concerned about the services but after realizing it stood for so long and just had it's oil change service in February I knew it would be okay. I drove all the way to Ermelo to test drive the car and luckily I did because I wouldn't have known about the buckled rims. They were really bad. I saw the car advertised by Inspectacar and them wanting R399,000 for it. I wasn't prepared to pay that for the car. I was then fortunate to find an obscure ad on the web by the owner themselves. I called and offered them R330,000 and they said yes. After seeing the wheels I offered R300k for it cash and the old lady declined and said she'd rather give the car to her son to drive on the farm. I said ok but just know that it's depreciating every day and insurance and maintenance will continue to cost you. We drove off to the nearest coffee shop for breakfast and I genuinely thought I was going home without it when they called to say they accept my offer. I transferred the money there and then and went to fetch it after our breakfast at Mugg n Bean. Then we drove it all the way home 265kms and even with bent rims this car did not skip a beat. The mileage is genuine and I had it all checked out at Jaguar Centurion where it just had the brake job. That was R25, 200 after I asked for some discount from the Service Manager. The original quote was R30k. So at least I saved R4,800 which more than covered the gearbox Service 😉😂.

      Thanks Terry - if you're worried about fuel economy, this car is not for you. I don't drive to work, so I was okay with the fuel. It gets around 500km to a tank which isn't much. My old 3L V6 used to get around 640km per tank. My 2016 model which I just sold was getting 740km' to a tank and that was a 2L petrol. You'd be better off with a diesel if fuel is costly. It's going the same way here. Very expensive. It is currently at 12.5l/100km but since I'm now doing mostly urban driving, it is climbing steadily ;D

    do yourself a huge favor and shop for a set of 19'' wheels that will fit over the braking system to replace the 20'' package. I've had essentially the same car for 3.5 yrs and my biggest regret has been the wheel package. It's no fun to worry about potholes so much. Likely a 255/40/19 would be best tire for front and a 295/35/19 in back. or similar. You're looking for approx. 27'' overall tire diameter. Get a wheel/tire shop to do the fitment with correct backspacing and such. DO NOT spend a bunch of time and effort with factory wheels. When you get new wheel and tire package get a new set of TPMS sensors and have installed. Your's are at end of their battery life. you can get these on ebay for less than $150 for the set. Your 18'' wheel idea will not work.

    • @carfanfan
      @carfanfan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right. The 18's didn't fit the car's brakes. In fact, they looked stupid on the car. I'm having the wheels refurbished - if that's possible. However, if I can't save them then I'll look into your advice here. Thanks for sharing ;)

      @@carfanfan yeah, just picked up one of my wheels for bend repair.. I've chased bad money with worse for 3 years. only have driven 12,000 miles and have had probably 5 bend repairs and 2 weld repairs. (i really try to miss potholes, but the wheels are soft..) The car has been great, it's just the wheels that have been tough to live with. I feel like a 45 series sidewall is optimal for sportiness without such risk of bends, maybe a 40 series, but big wheels only allow for rubber band tires.
