just got my 2.7 xf with 54000 miles on the clock.2008 premium luxury, light blue with full jag service history.i love it.best car i ever owened.thanks for your advice
I'd been thinking of buying one, after seeing how passionate you were about yours as well as others, tipped me off the fence towards buying one (dark green with cream interior). I had concerns about reliability and cost, but am so glad I bought it. If I'd bought a car I had no emotional connection with and had to spend money on it, I'd be annoyed. But with this it'll be worth it, because like you say, it makes you feel special, it welcomes you! Thanks for the helpful videos.
Hey Alex. As they get older, things will go wrong, but not as much as people expect. Used versions here have very high mileage, 200,000kms to 300,000kms which is proof of how solid they are 😉
Hey Hilton, ah that's good to hear! Mine has 96 thousand miles, but they changed the cam belt and water pump before I bought it. Will look forward to your future video's and I'll subscribe.
@@alexanderweaver1876 Thanks Alex. 96k is nothing for an XF. Especially the old shape as Ford designed it with Ian Callum and did a pretty good job. The first few years even shared mechanical parts with the Ford Crown Vic which was a pretty solid car used by the police. You will enjoy your XF for more than double that mileage 😉
Your videos have been really helpful. I took the plunge and bought a XF 3.0 Diesel. 2009. About 80,000 kms. Very pleased with it, it's in excellent condition so they have obviously been well built and people take pride in looking after them. The window regulator was broken but the dealer fitted a new one, they did a service too. The colour is liquid silver, and the interior is grey. Initially I thought the grey a little dull, but I like it now because it merges well with the silver dash board, and means (yet another) colour isn't introduced to the cabin. I love the power, the looks, it's built like a tank! The only thing I don't like about it is the suspension. I feel every bump and ripple in the road. This wasn't what I was expecting, as the reviews alluded to a "magic carpet" ride. I didn't pick up on this on the test drives, because it's so smooth and quiet in every other area, it kind of disguises it. I let the tyres down on the rears, they were set to 38 psi. I've read the 245/45 r18's can be set to around 34 psi, but every web site seems to have their own ideas about how they are supposed to be inflated. I like the "older" styling of the original model, with those big headlights and prominent grille. Don't like the facelift model. the smaller headlights look like they are off another car or something, and look out of proportion. Too much like an Audi too ! I like the recent version, as the lights look part of the design of the whole car.The economy is great, I wanted a diesel as it's cheaper here.
Hey there, you don't mention where you're from. I'd be interested to know. Congrats on your purchase! My car has 245/45/18 as well and the recommended pressure is 31 psi or 2.1 bar for speeds under 160 km/h. 34 psi still sounds too high. I can't believe it was 38 psi before that - wow, no wonder you felt every bump ;-) Take a look in the door jam of the passenger door - it should have a plate with the tyre pressures on it there. I'd like to wish you many happy motoring miles in your XF - you will love every minute of being in that car and just to look back at it when you leave it in a parking lot (park far from SUV's - they open their doors against your XF!)
Thanks Hilton. I'm from New Zealand. We got bitten by the Jag bug when my brother and I bought an X type for our father's 80th birthday.I'm very pleased with the XF. I may reduce the tyre pressures even more to around 31-33. I still think the ride is a bit on the hard side, however. I always look back at the car, it looks stunning. Every drive is an adventure. Everyone who I show it to, loves it ! It costs around $50 NZD to fill up the Jag, if it was petrol it would be about $130, but you have to pay road user charges seperately per km for diesel .I prefer it this way because it fools you into thinking the fuel is cheap! I haven't figured out how to leave the car cabin ventilation system on re-circulate (so It doesn't suck in diesel fumes) without activating the climate control. The button seems to be locked out when the climate control isn't on. And it seems to re-enage itself so you have to keep engaging it. Annoying. The XF is my first "luxury" car I've bought, I tried a BMW to see what the fuss was about ( it blew a huge plume of white smoke behind me, the engine was stuffed and it only had 60,000 kms on the clock) The Audi A4 was so stiff and heavy. And I hated the handbrake/transmission/arm rest ergonomics. There aren't many Jags on the road here, people go for BMW's and Audis but I think that will slowly change with the XE and SUV's Jag are making. Nigel
I have recently bought a 2012 facelift XF R it looks incredible and the performance is out of this world,no issues have arisen as of yet,as you would expect, fuel consumption is high, but well worth it.

Just bought a ‘15 Sapphire Metallic XF AWD with 26,600 miles on the odometer from an authorized Jag dealer. As soon as I was about to drive off the lot, I noticed that the automatic door locks weren’t working - not a good omen for future reliability! Although I have owned a ‘14 F-Type V8S for almost two years and, other than a few minor things and some erroneous ‘check engine lights,’ it’s been pretty trouble free. But the dealership immediately gave me a ‘18 E-Pace as a loaner, so it could’ve been worse. I should have it back next week so we’ll see - the adventure begins! PS - @ 7:08. JEEZ DUDE! Are you nuts? You accept a free loaner (even if you don’t need it) so that you can drive the dealer’s new car for a few days and spare your own car(s) the added mileage. Sheesh.
Ian Bracey Hey Ian. Sorry to hear that. A faulty brake light switch could indeed be the culprit but would also cause cruise control issues. If your cruise won't engage, you know you got a faulty brake light switch.
Hey Hilton brilliant videos.Just got an XF always wanted one. Can you have a look at ebay uk and let me know what you think are good led main and dip headlights as i want to change over asap regards
hey Anthony, sorry for only answering now - I've been moving house to a new city and it has been quite grueling. Here's a link to some bulbs I think will be perfect for both main and dipped beams - always buy LED's with fans as these pull heat away from the bulb and your precious wiring - heat syncs get too hot and eventually make the conduit of your wiring brittle. That's why all manufacturers fitting LED's to their cars have fans installed in them as well. These will be very good and 5000 lumins per bulb will be enough to light up the road better than halogens - also, 30w per bulb is less than the 50w fitted as standard as they use less power from your battery. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NOVSIGHT-10000LM-H4-H7-H11-9005-9006-Car-LED-Headlight-Bulbs-Lamp-White-6500K/362577759070?hash=item546b518b5e:m:mkSYG9y58wqxaRLfr7Ews6Q
Great review! I now have an Audi A4 2.0 TFSI that’s been no other than trouble, in and out from the car dealer so many times. Believe it or not but due to leaking oil and coolant it’s now on its third new engine. It’s only been two and a half year, crazy! It now works fine so I want to sell it and replace it with this sort of car. I’m thinking about the XF 2.2 2012 model. Does anyone have any advice? I live in Norway and the price is about 29 900 USD. I’m just a bit worried to again buy a car that will cost too much in maintenances. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Beautiful car by the way!
Hey Scott, a 2.2 will be the perfect blend between power and fuel savings. The 2012 facelift is also a striking looker. Just make sure it has full service history and that the cambelt has been done if the mileage is high
I have a 2012 XF Supercharged V8. All I have had to do is replace the 6 year old battery that was original when new. I hop it continues to be this good. My previous car was a S Type. 03 had it 15 years. Had no problems with it. I only sold it because I wanted the XF.
@@maclaudeamumbwe2663 Maybe next time! There are some beautiful Lexus vehicles around where I live for inspiration. I bought a BMW 740i after the Audi. Its been perfect so far.
Hey Hilton, I'm looking to buy a Jaguar XF 2008, It has a 3.0 V6 engine, What is the fuel economy like on these? Also are there any negatives in generals on the car? Thanks! Expect to hear from you real soon!!
Karm Sandhu Hey there. I can definitely recommend it. Mine is a V6 as well and I get 10l per 100km on the long road and around 13l per 100km in city driving. It tells me when I fill that my range is est . at 599km, but that depends how you drive ;-). Despite the few issues I had initially after buying it, it hasn't skipped a beat since and is a nice long road cruiser.
Adolf Hitler I disagree. My XF is a 2009 and after 8 years, its proven to be the most reliable car I've ever had. Your XJ is just 3 years old, things WILL go wrong when its older and the miles get higher. Its a matter of how many things go wrong as opposed to other marques. My Audi for instance was at the dealer every month for coolant leaks, oil leaks, suspension issues, vacuum leaks, brake issues, a/c issues and the list goes on. Its service history looked like a Jackie Collins novel. The XF on the other hand has very little to report considering the mileage and age. She's been good to me over the past few years.
Maf Sensor EGR Vales Gearbox Torque Converter Losing Water Gearbox selector refusing to rise That's just the faults on mine in 3 months of ownership. Out of those three months, it's been used to three weeks. Present;y off road. ATM I'm driving a 03 Corsa, which cost less than 5% of the cost of the XF that is perfect.
Hey again Hilton, after looking for a while I have come across a black Jaguar XF it is the 2008 Premium Luxury 3.0 Model, and It has around 29,000kms on it. Is buying a early model like that one a smart choice? As they were the first of them when they started production? Thanks
Karm Sandhu Wow, that one has very low mileage. Mine is a 2009 and I am impressed with its reliability. When the XF was designed, Ford owned Jaguar and its underpinnings came from the Lincolns and Crown Victoria's. I know that the diff for example comes from a Crown Vic. Cops used to drive them so they were reliable cars. The suspension is new and the interior. I would jump on that 2009 immediately if I were you. It will give you miles and miles of happy driving. Just make sure it has full service history and that you service it each year or when servicing is due and you will be OK ;-)
Hi Hilton, I live in France n i am planning to buy Jaguar XF 2.7 diesel with 159k kms. I am not earning much money thats why i am asking if its worth to buy or not ? Is the service and spares r at the normal cost or r these expensive as compared to other sedans like bmw 5 series and mercedes class C or E. if v can go for routine service after 10000 kms is this car still go through with loadz of other spares or not ? Ll b waiting for ur reply. Thanks Hilton
Punjabi By Luck Sorry, I only saw your message now. Not sure if you bought the Jaguar yet. BMW 5 series are very expensive to maintain. I would stay away. Mercedes E class too if it has all the bells in it. The XF is very reliable and I continue to enjoy mine with peace of mind. Let me know what you bought ;-)
I must be honest, I've often been tempted, but my XF is garaged 90% of the time and the other 10% its driven. I never park in the sun, always find underground parking and I don't take my car to undesirable places that I feel could wreck my beautiful upholstery. But that aside, tint DOES look radical and my XF would look great with my car's dark color.
Jiclf Sun my dad never tints his cars..keeps the factory grandma clear windows...and keeps his cars a long time and his interiors look like shit from fading from the sun. I tint my cars and my interiors look great. Sunlight wreaks havoc on anything. Tints help a lot
Renegade Nielsen idk I've had many used cars as old as 1997 and no tints ever, never noticed fading or cracking interiors. And I'm talking cheap cars like chevys, fords, etc
Yip, you are right. I did a video on 5 weird things about he XF and one of them is that the hood release is on the passenger side on RHD models - and this is because Jaguar realized they'd sell more LHD models and didn't bother moving it to the driver's side on RHD models :-D
Idk if anyone still looks at this, but I found a 2011 xf supercharged for 16k with 89k miles....What I want to know are the trims, what's the difference between a base, portfolio, and supercharged? Also I heard this are pretty reliable. If so would it be good to get the 2011 supercharged with 89k miles for $16k or a 2012 xf base or portfolio for $17-$18k with around 40-50k miles? Please reply. I would love to have one of these
Darkdestroyer Hey there. What engine does the base have? The 3l V6 supercharged is a good buy, provided it has full service history. Coolant leaks are prevalent on these but it already fixed, you got a solid car!
Darkdestroyer Wow, our bases are 2.2 diesels here. I'd stay away from the 4.2 V8, but the 5.0 V8 is a brilliant engine and also very solid. They too suffer from water failure so check it that has been done. The s/c version will be your best purchase. I wish I'd bought one. Just make sure the oil changes are done regularly otherwise the engine could get ruined very quickly. They run hot like GM V8's. If you can a V6 supercharged then even better. Uses less fuel but gives excellent power. Every XF will probably give window regulator issues at some point and airvent trouble but not so serious. I got spare ones from a scrapyard and fixed my own.
I am planning to buy one but now I think I will not a lot of problems for 90k I think I will stay with Lexus or audi but as you have audi do you recommend having audi for daily use??
Hey Feras - I don't recommend Audi at all. My Audi drained my bank account in the space of a year. The only reason I still have it is because I sunk so much money into it to get it 100% that its no longer financially viable to sell it. That car leaked oil, coolant, vacuum and transmission oil as well as exhaust gases. It cost a small fortune to fix each and every problem and when I thought I was done, the a/c evaporator blew - had that fixed, then the heater core packed up and the dash had to come out again! Frankly, they were nice cars when new, but when old, they are shitboxes. I would stay away from Audi.
Hilton thank you for your fast reply I had Lexus ls460 2008 with more than 240 km around 10 years now and now major issues only ABS brake failure and control arms problems the rest are like new I think I will keep it for a while but it is boring car 0 sport feeling
geminiwilliams037 hey there, we have a 2000 model Audi A4 with the 2.4 V6 engine and ZF five speed tiptronic gearbox. It's still going strong and after spending a small fortune in it is bow very reliable 😁
Hilton Thanks for the response. Thinking about purchasing a 06' A6 3.2 quattro but have had doubts because of horror stories I've heard! It's a nice looking clean vehicle but I'm very skeptical about taking the plunge! It would actually be a second car not daily driver.Don't want to purchase a money pit!
Mine was stuck when I bought it (also 2009 model), I pressed very gently in various spots until I managed to get it open. Press gently, but firmly about an inch from the left of the flap in the middle and it should respond. If the flap itself isn't opening, possible a fuse has blown. Check your owners manual for the fuse location (probably above the battery on the right side compartment in your trunk) and see if the fuse has blown. If not, you can pull the carpet away above the fuse layout and you should get to the manual release.
Mike Willis If you think about it,it's a good idea. Most bonnet catches need the door to be open to reach( I guess so a passenger doesn't pop it open on the move) and opening a passanger door(for rhd cars) is way safer than opening the drivers door and having to reach in and search for the lever.
Some friendly criticism: This video spreads (maybe) 4 minutes of content into 17 minutes of video. One example... you mention the dealer didn't want to service the rear differential over and over. Great. So what? We got it the first time you mentioned it. Make your point and move on.
Sandija Pocepko woa, that's pretty vague. Does it shimmy from side to side? Wheel bearings could cause that and as a result wheel alignment will he impossible.

Get a lexus
Despite the few issues I had initially after buying it, it hasn't skipped a beat since and is a nice long road cruiser.
my 2.2 turbo diesel.... drove 3.5 hours on flat road ( in australia )... av 99 kmph.. got 4.6 km / 100km
Those diesels are pretty awesome - I went for a V6 petrol because it doesn't require a cambelt change and it sounds raucous ;-)
Maf Sensor
EGR Vales
Gearbox
Torque Converter
Losing Water
Gearbox selector refusing to rise
That's just the faults on mine in 3 months of ownership.
Why isnt it tinted? Sunlight blasting down into interiors causes the interior to fade ,chip and look like crap quicker
If your interior fades chips or cracks you have bigger problems. Lol where do people get this shit???
Jiclf Sun my dad never tints his cars..keeps the factory grandma clear windows...and keeps his cars a long time and his interiors look like shit from fading from the sun. I tint my cars and my interiors look great. Sunlight wreaks havoc on anything. Tints help a lot
Renegade Nielsen idk I've had many used cars as old as 1997 and no tints ever, never noticed fading or cracking interiors. And I'm talking cheap cars like chevys, fords, etc
Jiclf Sun what materials were the interiors? Leather?
in america you'd be talking about the passenger side for replacing tweeter
Yip, you are right. I did a video on 5 weird things about he XF and one of them is that the hood release is on the passenger side on RHD models - and this is because Jaguar realized they'd sell more LHD models and didn't bother moving it to the driver's side on RHD models :-D
I wouldn't mind having the RHD model just to be different here in the states
ChiSoxsFan4Life When its 20 years old, you can buy mine LoL ;-)
Hilton the base is v8. All that I mentioned have a v8. I just find it weird that they are all pretty much under 20k
Hilton ok thank you for the info
Only a pleasure, good luck. I hope you find the one that suits you ;-)
I am planning to buy one but now I think I will not a lot of problems for 90k
I think I will stay with Lexus
or audi
but as you have audi do you recommend having audi for daily use??
Hilton thank you for your fast reply
I had Lexus ls460 2008 with more than 240 km around 10 years now and now major issues only ABS brake failure and control arms problems the rest are like new
I think I will keep it for a while
but it is boring car 0 sport feeling
Hilton Which Audi model do you own kind sir?
geminiwilliams037 hey there, we have a 2000 model Audi A4 with the 2.4 V6 engine and ZF five speed tiptronic gearbox.
That's a lot of things to go wrong in a year and a half, at that mileage, IMHO.
Almost 100,000km in under two years?! Dude you drive a lot, how long are your commutes?
LoL, no it had around 80,000km on the clock when I bought it 😁
I have jag XF 2009 I have one question please anyone let me know How to open stuck fuel lid
Hilton thanks
There's a release cable behind the filler on the inside of the boot behind the lining.
Hood release on passenger side is stupid
Mike Willis
If you think about it,it's a good idea.
Most bonnet catches need the door to be open to reach( I guess so a passenger doesn't pop it open on the move) and opening a passanger door(for rhd cars) is way safer than opening the drivers door and having to reach in and search for the lever.
Same in Mustang gt 5.0
when i drive whit my jaguar more then 50mile in houer its start tramping do you know what the problem can be.?
Not sure what you mean by tramping - do you mean it's starts to shudder or vibrate while driving?
Some friendly criticism: This video spreads (maybe) 4 minutes of content into 17 minutes of video. One example... you mention the dealer didn't want to service the rear differential over and over. Great. So what? We got it the first time you mentioned it. Make your point and move on.
Point taken
@@carfanfan don't listen to that turd, you did a great job my man.
@@ATY676 Thanks Alex 🤗
Jeremy Clarkson should watch this next time before he goes on about how great British engineering is. Lol
I’ve got an f-type, it’s a pile of poorly assembled junk.
What a wierd lookin engine
shimmy
Sandija Pocepko woa, that's pretty vague. Does it shimmy from side to side? Wheel bearings could cause that and as a result wheel alignment will he impossible.
