It really annoys me here in the UK that dealers think they can BS us. Stand your ground indeed. Looking forward to the follow ups to this. We even got trading standards involved when we had issues with a German Marque.
I've been wanting a Jaguar XF since they were launched in 2008, but I am second hand car man and it takes some time (years) for me to be able to afford a car I like. However I finally bought a 2009 XF and absolutely love it! In fact this is my 68th car in 30 years of driving and my first ever Jag and it has completely won me over. I've been watching Hiltons videos for quite a while and taken on board his tips and advice on his old XF of which some I will be doing to my car. I really enjoy the videos and Hitons relaxed attitude, keep them going!
Hey there Mark. Many thanks for watching my videos. I'm thrilled to hear you've bought at 2009. My old one was a 2009 and I still say it was the best car I ever owned. Even better than my new XF. It just felt different to the new one. The difference is Ford owned Jag when the older one was designed and they didn't cut corners. Tata own Jag now and quality has gone downhill. The new one is still fun to drive, but it doesn't have that feel of the older XF. I'm still looking for an older one 2014 or 2015 model to trade my new one in on because they are the better car. If I find an XFR at a good price, I might even buy one. But a 3L s/c is the main thing on my list with low mileage and full dealer service history - and they are scarce, especially since lockdown. Hopefully with lockdown having eased here in South Africa, car dealers can finally start doing business again and I'll find what I want. Congrats on your purchase and I wish you thousands of happy motoring in your XF.
Hey, quick question as fast as the XF R sport , what years do you feel is the best year to buy? I'm hearing between 2009 and 2012 that those models were more reliable. Also do you have any recommendations on the XJR?
What's up Doc? 🤣 I test drove an XJR and it was awesome. If you ha e a garage big enough to store it then sure, get it. Same engine as the XFR and it's lighter thanks to its aluminum body. Just as fast. It wouldn't fit in my garage so I abandoned the idea and went for XFR. The 2009-2011 preface lift versions are just as good as the facelift, but I'd go for a 2019 and up as Jaguar sorted out many of the earlier gremlins by then thanks to their warranty data that showed which parts were problematic. These cars do suffer coolant leaks and super charger bearing failure which can be expensive to fix. When looking at one listen to the engine from from the front for any gargling noises which will indicate a/c bearing failure. Check the coolant reservoir that it's between min and max marks exactly. If it's low, there's a coolant leak. Good luck.
I’ve got a 2017 XF and I’m a little disappointed with the build quality of it. The boot doesn’t open fully when you press the fob (it just clicks open); Jaguar told me it’s not supposed to but I’m convinced it is. I have a similar problem with my Bluetooth too, and last time mine went to Jaguar the 20” rims came back scuffed.
@@simonclayton1148 sorry to hear Simon. Do you have the electric tailgate? The Bluetooth fix requires a software update. It fixed mine. The manual lifting tailgate should lift all the way. Could be the springs are tired. Yes, even on a new car the springs could be defective.
Hi Hilton interesting video putting me off now off upgrading my x250 in the future, I always remember you replying to me in the past say keep your x250 as long as you can. The build quality on my 9 year old x250 is excellent.
Hey Malcolm - yes absolutely. I knew the new XF wasn't as good as the old one and my review back in 2016 of that white one was actually spot on now that I actually own one. Human beings aren't stupid, we know by a certain sixth sense when something is bad for us or good for us and I just knew back then that Jaguar had cut some corners with this car. I should have listened to my own advice ;)

To be fair my issues were caused by an inattetentive dealer. After rattling their cage I got them to fix the issues and the car was right as rain afterwards
Hi Hilton, Sad to hear this about the dealership members to be such muppets. Its a pity that you have so much issues with your XF. I personally got my '16 XF 3.0 35t this year and i couldn't be more happier.. i have no issues what so ever. Already drove 3.000+km and she had 41.400km on the clock when i got her.. I wish you and her all the best !
Thanks man. I'm sure once these issues are taken care of, it will prove to be a reliable car as the engine and tranny have never skipped a beat yet. It's more the hang-on bits that are falling apart. It is still enjoyable to drive, but not having A/C is not acceptable in my country as it's hot here all year round and we use A/C everywhere we go. I'm hoping they find the cause of the A/C gas leak as well before the warranty runs it's course.
It's hard to find a mechanic who will take the time to diagnose a problem. They just want to replace parts and charge big bucks. I had similar problems with the Toyota service here. I've just gone back to working on the car myself.
Absolutely. This dealer treats me totally differently now. When they give me shoddy service I tell them immediately that it's unacceptable and insist on talking to the Dealer Principle. They now know the level of service I expect and I can say they have improved dramatically. When I take my XFR to them, they keep in touch, make sure they diagnose everything properly and don't hand my car back to me until everything I asked to be done is actually done. They don't wash my car because I give them strict instructions not to test drive it or wash it. They even have to park it in a spot I designated so that other people don't open their doors against my car.
@@carfanfan All this should be what we expect when paying and dealing with a premium brand. It is simply unacceptable to lie and not take responsibility of an issue. I have owned Lexus and several Toyotas, their service absolutely superb! I am so well looked after. I'm now planning to buy my neighbour's Jag XFS Portfolio. The only thing that is putting me off is the snobbery attitude when I go into my Jag dealership. The experience of is so very different when I step into a Lexus dealership. These luxury car brands need to learn a thing or two from the Japanase on how to look after their customers. It's the very reason why I keep on going back to them.
@@VishalGupta-od5mf Yes, the service experience after buying a car is the most important. Rip them all new one's from the first time you go to them, and after that they will tread lightly around you. I can now be friendly and nice to them, but initially I had to throw a fit in their showroom to get their attention. Now they don't want a repeat of that :D

Hello Hilton, I own an XF, 2010 ,I love watching your videos, I learnt always something new. You can't trust the dealers. I bought a second hand jag 3000D from a friend, who has a maintenance contract. Last summer I had troubles with the gearbox, and let it flushed ( the seal was still on the gearbox- they never had it flusht). Here in Belgian there is a shortage of parts, and I had to wait 2 months for a gear selector but.... I have the car now 6 years , with 250.000km on the clock, and I don't think that I gonna change him for another.
Wow I am surprised to hear the issues you experienced with this new XF. Surprised because one would expect JLR should have an improved product over the previous gen. I still have a late 2013 XF and I thoroughly enjoy owning it. Yea sure it has some issues and niggles like you explained i.e front suspension problems but those are its weakness more than anything else and is easily fixed. And also I honestly believe the previous XF looks much more beautiful than the current one. Anyway hope ur disappointments will end soon and be back with the “old” XF that you are looking for. Thanks mate. The two main issues are simply suspension and a/c. Not difficult to remedy or repair. My experience has mostly been marred by the dealer's indifference at my concerns. What they don't realize is they're not just dealing with cars, they also deal with people and we are all different. Unfortunately for them, I'm more particular about my cars than other customers. I overheard them tell a lady her brakes need doing and when she heard the bill, she told them to leave it. Then I saw her outside by her car and realized why - every body panel on that poor XFS was dented or scratched. She doesn't give a hoot about her Jag. And they realize that, but surely when they see how well I look after my car, they would treat me accordingly - but no, they treat me like that lady who doesn't give a damn. The engine is indeed very good and so is the gearbox. Very smooth and just keeps going. Copes well in peak traffic too. It would be a pity to have to get rid of this car, but if this all continues, I will have no choice. And if I can't find an older XF to replace it with, I may have to switch to a different brand altogether again like I did with the Mazda CX-5 - that thing was flawless.
Oh, another thing Hilton old boy....I found 3 very nice XF’s here in the US. 2 are in Florida, one being an XFR, and the other being the one I told you about, the grey 2013 XF 3.0L V6 w/24K miles with duotone red/charcoal grey interior and the optional side fascia, rear spoiler and front fascia in Florida. This Jaguar had only one owner, a rich woman who drove it when she came down to Florida to spend the winters and then only drive it to the country club to golf. This jag had early issues with front wheel bearings replaced, wheel speed sensor replaced, O2 sensor replaced, hood adjusted, two wheel alignment, all before the car had 3K on the clock! It then had the window switch replaced, the transmission range switch replaced at 17K miles and the battery replaced at 24 K miles. That’s it for its service history. Not much else went wrong with this jag. This Jaguar also has the lowest mileage of the three. The other 2 are both Salsa Red XFR’s with unblemished ivory leather interiors. I mean they look brand new. The one XFR in Florida the other XFR in Illinois (a snow state, (i.e., possible rust). The XFR in Florida is a 2014 with 50K miles on it. It’s service record shows the best regular oil changes with not much else gone wrong. It did have the battery/charging system “checked” 7X in 6 years but nothing repaired or replaced in relation to them checking out the system 7X. The XFR in Illinois has 42K miles on the clock but it has no service history on its CARFAX, though the dealer whose selling the car told me it was sold by them and serviced for the life of the jag by them and had an owner who babied the car. I’m thinking maybe the don’t enter their service work to CARFAX. I was told this by other dealers too. Maybe their dealership doesn’t participate with the CARFAX service. Both XFR’s are in pristine condition, driven by women (so absolutely no wrinkles in the drivers leather seat!). Non smoker, always garaged. My question to you Hilton is this, which one would you choose??? The two XFR’s look mean and fast but so does the grey 3.0L XF car with its added optional side fascia, rear spoiler and front fascia and upgraded rims of a much newer year . The only difference is the HP (510 for the XFR’s vs. 340 for the V6 ), rim size (19”vs. 20”). MPG (22 mpg combined for the V6 vs. 18 mpg combined for the two XFR’s) and of course some interior finish differences. Oh lastly, and maybe more importantly, the price tags ($18K for the 3.0L grey jag vs. $29K for both the 2011 and 2014 red XFR’s). My thoughts are; does one really need 510 HP these days? I mean I can’t open it up here or the CHP will pull me over and give me a ticket if I drive over 80 mph!! Plus, I’m thinking, a V8 engine is a lot more costly to maintain and with jags I worry about what could go wrong with such a more powerful engine vs. the smaller 2013 V6 3.0 L non XFR jag. Anyway, if you get the time let me know your thoughts. All three jags look brand new. And the grey 3.0L does only have 24K miles on it. Not bad for a 2013 XF. Though I’d love to have an XFR, does the additional $11K make sense vs. the 2013 premium jag with 24K miles on the clock?
Hey Mathew, I'd be tempted to get an XFR, however, if you're happy to spend a little more on maintenance, then I would go with the XFR. Keep in mind, everything costs more on a performance car. It has two more spark plugs than the 3L s/c and it has performance brakes which cost a small fortune to replace when the time comes. One gripe I always had with the X250 is that they were heavy on brakes and the brake dust would accumulate on the wheels within two days of washing it. Standard brakes are very expensive to replace, but XFR will be double that. As for the air filters, they are the same in the 3L as the 5L XFR. Personally, I'd go for the Floriday XFR with 50k on the clock. I'm crazy that way, as I don't mind paying the extra cost in maintenance, but since Jaguar no longer make XFR's, they will become even more sought after five or seven years from now and prices will start to go up instead of down. Florida is a hot climate, so just make sure it has definitely had its oil changes regularly as those engines get very hot indeed and the oil degrades very fast. I wouldn't worry too much about the 7x battery module reset as all X250 XF's have that annoying battery low warning - it doesn't mean the battery is low, just that the car is preserving energy to ensure the battery can start it next time round. Jaguar should have done an update on the old system to do away with that warning. The battery light to pay attention to is the little red one by the dials - if that comes on, then it's serious. But you mentioned the owner didn't drive it much and that's why the battery low warning constantly displays on the infotainment - it just needs a good long drive during the day to charge and cycle the battery properly. I do agree that there is a vast premium between the 5L and the 3L but the power difference is also vast - that 5.0 super charged engine is a total beast and is only available in Range Rovers, F-Type and F-Pace SVR now since XF no longer has a halo model. The best thing to do is to drive the 3L and then drive the 5L if you can find them within easy reach of each other - then decide which of the actual cars will suit you. Both are fantastic cruisers, however, the 3L will give you better gas mileage. It's really up to your personal preference - I'd truly be torn between a low mileage 3L and a higher mileage XFR - they're both great cars and have great engines. Just check though, if memory serves, I think the XFR has a 6 speed ZF tranny as opposed to the 8 ZF speed in the 3L. I think the 6 speed was called a 6HP26 ZF transmission - very good tranny, used in BMW and Audi's as well. So many service parts available. You could even service them at a ZF tranny workshop. Just make sure if you go for the Florida XFR that the tranny has had it's service. It's due for one now as 6 years has lapsed. In the manual, they say the transmission has lifetime oil in it - that means, the lifetime of the warranty or service plan - but in the workshop manual, they must be serviced every 6 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. The hotter the climate, the quicker the oil degrades. I wish you good luck my friend until you find that XF of your dreams.
Hi Hilton. Im sorry to hear of your issues with your Jag but let me give you the other side to this. Ive just had two washer pumps replaced under warranty- the headlight and windscreen pumps both went. I have the extended warranty on my car and the dealership have been brilliant about the work. It being completed with out any issues . Also I get the point you made about "drooling " over your old Jag. I have a 3.0V6 2014 XF in Ultimate black with grey leather interior. I had it machine polished and ceramic coated and yes, I drool over mine too. The 3.0 litre engine is an absolute joy to have, its happy to potter around town at 30 mph but press all the buttons and floor the throtle and the car hurls itself at the horizon like a javelin. Like you I prefer the old style XF but I am awaiting the new model that comes out later this year, just to see if I can be tempted. Dont give up on the brand just yet
Thanks. I definitely won't give up on the brand due to a delinquent dealer. Sure, they've spoilt my Jaguar experience, but I still love Jaguar and will never get it out my blood. So I'm looking mostly at 3L V6 S/C models. Some have high mileage, but if I can get one with around 30,000 to 40,000 km's on the clock for a good price, I'll pounce on it pronto. I like the white with the black pack. They just look so good with black wheels and grills. Aggressive and Aston Martinish. Not that I like Aston - not the modern ones any way. The DB7 and DB9 were beauts.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds like JLR dealer only your area doesn’t really care much about their own brand and customers. I wish you good luck finding another better jag for yourself and different dealer with it may be.
Hi Hilton. I share your pain and experiences. I lost confidence in my previous XF X250 after I had the front discs and pads changed 5 times in a single year (honestly) to address a wheel shudder that the dealer couldn't diagnose. Aircon failed, stop/start failed, constant battery warnings from the day I bought it. Mileage was getting high so like you I upgraded to a one year old X260 RSport. Despite being 6 years newer the satnav was several years out of date and didn't include main roads and bridges that the old one did. It took a year for them to provide an update that cost me £90 UK. They said they would refund me but never did. Other than that the Bluetooth would cut me off mid-call as yours did and the reverse camera failed as often as it worked but never a fault found. To be honest I've loved both cars, they look the part and they're great to drive and like any make, things can go wrong. But Jaguar have a lot to learn about customer service. My next car will NOT be a Jaguar. That's not based on the quality of their cars but solely on their "got your money, now go away" attitude. I wouldn't consider going back to an older model either Hilton. You'll get the same poor service whatever the model.
Thanks TB. Unfortunately, the dealer can make or break a brand and this one isn't doing Jaguar any favors. I have sent Jaguar Head Office a note to inform them of this and hopefully they'll take action against the dealer. I now have to give them a fair chance of repairing it, but what is fair to me? This is the 3rd time they've got to fix this issue. As with your experience, your dealer let you down and now your perception of your car is tainted. I feel the same way about my XF now, but knowing what I know of my old one, they're just better put together. I think the early facelift 2013 models suffered the most as Jaguar introduced a lot of new technology into that car. It was a comprehensive facelift from the stop/start technology to the sound system which got a complete overhaul. Many electronics were also replaced and (improved), but my the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rings so true here - but manufacturers are all playing in the competition game of trying to outdo each other and this ends up in customer dissatisfaction when they didn't get it quite right.
So many problems, I feel your pain! On the other hand I have not had one single issue with anything on my 2008 XF. It just shows you one car can be different to the next - but I think that can happen with any make.
I'm shocked that a jaguar dealer has been so indignant on how they have treated you in the faults that you reported. I would say contact Jaguar directly tell them the issues you have had
I did the same when my car was leaking coolant, I complaied to JLR and they arranged spare rental JAG for me for the time of repair - dealer wanted to charge me for that. Cheers.
Hilton if you have this love-hate relationship so early just swap it with no regrets. Especially if the dealer acts like it owns your car. Former Jaguar XF 2.7d and now XE 25t.
Shocked to hear about your experience. By contrast, the only issues I had with my 2017 model was the recall, a cracked wheel and a dodgy Bluetooth connection, but the service dept did the recall (and gave me a disco sport courtesy car), immediately updated the system (and gave me an EPace courtesy car) and they introduced me to a local wheel welder. So far no other problems occurred despite already being at 54k miles (86k+ kms)

We have a 2012 Jaguar XF, 3.0 V6 twin turbo diesel, 275bhp. Ours is a White Sport with the Anthracite Grey 20 inch wheels. Bowers and Wilkins sound upgrade. Jaguar, you need to sort this dealer out because it doesn’t take much to turn customers away in this day and age, simple as that.
Hi hilton I've had my jaguar xf sportbrake 2.2 2014 for 6 years and never taken it to a dealer for sevice or local garage thats probably why it still works, its had 2 sets of tyres replaced brake pads and done all the oil / air filters myself just replaced the batteries and it runs like the day i bought it. It has no service history but im not worried although it has been serviced. Ive kept a record of servicing for my reference but I'm not looking to get rid of it anytime soon, l love this car. I'm looking to change the front discs when i replace the front pads apart from that shes a goodie. Just remembered the only other thing was wiper blades.
Sorry about that. I think you got lucky though with your old one. We have an XF and it has been the least reliable car we've ever owned but that's not to say it is unreliable. It's just not AS reliable as our other cars. And of course, everything is a fortune to fix. I love Jags but I feel anyone considering one should know going in, that it will probably break 5 to even 10 times more often than a similarly priced Lexus. I'm not hating either. That's been my experience and that of a few others I know with Jags. They are awesome but reliability isn't their strongest trait.
Agree, after warranty get rid off it. Jaguar sure makes my Honda look like a tank. 150k miles, 2011 model, and ZERO issues... absolutely nothing other than tires, wipers and oil 😄. I do like Jags they have presence unlike invisible Hondas
It’s upsetting to hear how your dealership is treating you. I’ve only had my Jag F Pace a little over a year, picked it up with 26,000 Km. on the clock. It has the supercharged V6, simply love the performance and handling. Had the car in for a servicing last Oct wherein they also upgraded the infotainment at N/C. A couple of days later, I got a call from the service agent to make sure I was happy, asking me, on a scale of 1 - 10 how did she do? Then exclaimed that if she didn’t get 10, wanted to know what she could do to make it a 10. A few days later I received an email from the dealership wanting to make sure I was happy with them and asked me to fill out questionnaire. Two weeks later, Jaguar Canada sent me a questionnaire wanting to know if I was happy with the service I had received, what I liked and didn’t like about the model, and what I would change. I thought this treatment was because I was new to the brand, but no. I had the car in for warranty work on the all wheel drive system and I also noted that I felt a very slight vibration through the pedals and the floor on and off. It was so slight and inconsistent that I thought they’re not going to be able to replicate it to find the problem. They had the car for a week while I drove their discovery. The end result was that the front wheel drive pump actuator was faulty and the vibration problem was fixed. I asked what was causing the vibration? He said they replaced the front right wheel bearing. I stated on car with so few miles, I never would have even thought of a wheel bearing. He stated neither did the Mechanic, he only found it by putting the car on the hoist with it in gear and went around all four wheels with a stethoscope and probe. I was impressed. In the end, same as before, every level of Jaguar wanted to know if I was happy with the service. Short answer, oh yeah. Any way, Hilton, I hope things start to go better for you. If not, suggest they contact Jaguar Canada and Langley JLR in British Columbia to find out how to keep customers truly satisfied. Cheers.
Thanks Gordon. Seems like you've had your fair share of issues with your F-Pace, but as I said to the Service Manager, I understand things will go wrong, it's how they address it that matters most to me. I'm giving them a 3rd chance to fix the issues and also to redeem themselves. I feel vindicated that they now admit there is a knocking sound from the suspension and that they've found which components are causing it. Hopefully it will fix that issue for once and for all. The AC I suspect is the compressor leaking. They have dye in the system now and will check it next time it comes in. Customer service is paramount to me at any car dealer, but with a Jaguar, you expect a little more. I've been contacted by Jaguar South Africa and will be giving them information on my experience - hopefully that will make a difference too.
Im just about to buy an XF 2.2D and I'm delighted with your video... Yeah I heard that Jags after 2016 are not so reliable anymore... and tbh, the old models are way more beautiful.
I have the XF 3 litre diesel high mileage never a problem with anything apart from a battery And a window regulator here’s hoping for another relatively trouble free year
Sorry to hear about alll this crap you have been put through - I was at one stage considering changing from my C Class Merc to a 2009 XF 2.7 Diesel with 150,000km and it looked well presented - but to be honest I dont need a money pit - clearly in all the reviews I have studied these XFs have a lot of issues -- I decided to stick with my old 2009 but very reliable C Class Merc - greetings from Ireland
I’m actually getting a Jaguar XF R Sport 25 AWD, and obviously I know it’s a double edge sword, but I’m sure the dealership I’m purchasing from has a good reputation, but I could be wrong. The car itself looks beautiful, it was barely driven, warranty still available, and I’m going to test drive it in 3 weeks or so. I was also sent a video of one of the guys from the dealership driving, and I’m looking forward to it.
Really sorry for you. I too had an XF 2.7d. After selling, I wanted to buy a 2018 XF, but the interior was too plain. The ventilations have changed, the aluminum has disappeared, etc. Today I bought an XF 2011 3.0d full option with a sunroof. But I wanted to buy a 2014 XF in 3.0d, it's very difficult to find this kind of car in Belgium in Brussels as a full option. If I can give advice to all, do not buy any more Jaguar XF from 2016, because all the products have lost quality.
I drove my friend's 3ltr diesel XF 2009 last week and it was a lovely comfy easy car to drive. His has over 150,000 miles on it and drives like a new car. I had a look at the older XF models for sale and can't believe I can actually buy a 2.7ltr V6 diesel 2008 with 125,000 miles on it with a full 12 months road worthness test (MOT test in the UK) on it. Very tempted to go have a look at it. Seems an awful lot of car for so little money.
Hey Stephen. Even if it passed the MOT I'd still make sure it has full service history. These cars are cheap now, but when things break, they aren't cheap to repair. Or at least buy a 2 year mechanical warranty for peace of mind. 😉

Is it true what they say about the excellent reliability of the first XF with the 2.2 diesel engine with 200 HP and, on the contrary, the AWFUL performance and reliability of the 2 litre Ingenium diesel which produces 180 HP? I would really like to know that because I'm really looking forward to purchasing an old gen XF but I would also like to know more about the reliability of the X260! Thanks a lot! Happy weekend! Hey David. Unfortunately it is true yes. The ingenium engines apparently have a high failure rate. I was shocked at this because the 2l petrol uses the same engine block. It would be a good choice going with the first gen 😉
What jerks, I hope you proceed with a formal complaint with the video as evidence once you get your car fixed. Unfortunately if that is the only dealer in your area it could hurt your future dealings or maybe and hopefully it will benefit you and they will know not to try to pull the sheets over your eyes again. We have one dealer near us in the New Orleans area but my wife was a cheerleader years ago in high school with the daughter of Parreti Jaguar and hopefully they will not do that to us. This past week I have just changed my XF(same as your old one) for a 5 series M Sport. After 5 years ownership the Jag was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, but I couldn’t risk going for a newer Jag based on all the issues I hear about. I hope you get sorted soon.
Hey Scott, I hear you my friend. This is why I'm looking for an older one. Fewer troubles and happier motoring. Problem is, if I do buy an older one, I'd probably have leave the Jaguar brand for good and move to something else then as their newer cars just aren't up to scratch for me. They give the SUV's more love than they do their sedans now - very sad.
Hilton I had the same issue, couldn’t stick with older type XF as too high mileage. The quality and feel of the newer XF forced me to move elsewhere unfortunately.
@@Jon-zj2nj I think it's a combination of the change in model, 1st year new model and bad dealer service. I serviced my Mazda CX-5 at their Mazda division and they were just as bad there.
Hey Hilton I just got a 2017 Jaguar xf 2.0 Diesel canadian model a couple months ago im loving it so far its my first jag its got 45,000km do you think I should get rid of it? I just got it so id like to keep it until atleast 100,000km but if these newer ones are troublesome it might be a good idea to get rid of it now
Hey Rav, I don't think you should get rid of it. If you are enjoying the car and its reliable, keep it. I've seen some with over 100,000km's already and they seem to be doing just fine. My problem is actually more dealer related and not so much car related. I should have pointed out that my car stood for a full year without being driven and that could be why the a/c seals got hard and leaked. Could also be the reason the stabilizer bar bushes become stretched. These cars like to be driven. I've spoken to many owners of older XF's with high mileage and they've barely had any issues due to the fact they get driven a lot. Mine stands in the garage for two or three days at a time because I work from home, so it also needs to be driven more often. Keep you car, I'm sure it will prove to be reliable in the long term.
The new one is definitely a step down in quality. I can't lie about that. The quality of the materials behind the materials is also not up to par with other manufacturers - not even Mazda. Tata have cheapened the new Jags and they'd better wake up soon and fix the quality perception issue otherwise Jaguar will die thanks to them. It's a great brand and they are beautiful cars. The designers have done a good job as well as the engineers, but the boardroom decisions have affected the quality - thus, the new XF is dying slowly. My own personal preference would be the older 11-15 XF. By then, Jaguar had fixed any recurring warranty issues and perfected the car like a fine wine. Only thing to watch for are the black buttons in the interior - they have a gel coating to make them feel soft and rubbery and if the car stands in the sun for much of its life, the gel coat starts getting sticky and peeling off. It's a terrible sight and not nice to touch any of the switchgear then.
Hi Hilton Just about to buy a 2017 XF (2.0 L) with 147.000 km. As you are one of the biggest authority on the subject, is there any issue I should lookout for? I’m a bit concerned with the timing chain. Could you please help? Thanks
Sorry Ricardo - only seen your comment now. If you're concerned about the timing chain, have it done. These motors are unfortunately not very reliable. Jaguar has changed a few things on them. One would have thought they'd learned from the 5L V8 timing chain plastic guides issue from years ago, but nope. They quietly upgraded them to metal guides are thousands of failures - out of warranty. The diesel isn't any better unfortunately. If you really want a good engine, you should have tried to get a 3L V6 s/c or a V6 diesel - older engines, but tried and tested ;)
Hey Hilton, sorry that this is happening. Find out the name of the dealership owner, manager, & the president of Jaguar and let them know the issues. They need to know how you are having unresolved issues with the car and the dealership. This is so unacceptable. You have footage, sue if you have to. Nice to hear from you again.

They hear it all the time and do not care. Jaguar is know for making crap cars. Just sell it for $6,000 and learn your lesson. Next time buy anything except Jag, Nissan, Ford, Fiat, or Chrysler. Try a Japanese car but not a Mitsubishi

Thanks man. Jaguar fixed all the issues I had after I spoke with the service manager and their quality manager. They kept the car for a few days and sorted everything out to ensure I was happy. The service advisor was the route cause because he wasn't checking that the work was done right. I deal with a different service advisor now and he knows all too well that when I book my car in, it better be perfect :D
Im sorry to hear about your troubles. But these are the reasons i got rid of mine after a few months. It was a XF-S Portfolio 2015. The shape before yours. The paint and build quality were subpar. But what do you expect when most parts are Ford and the engine is Puegeot. Extremely over rated brand.
Last month I sold my 14 V6 R Sport. I bought it two years old and had it four years. Best car ive ever had. I so wanted to buy another but was put off buying the new model due to all the reports of bad build quality and another new model coming out this year that will hurt the values of the 16 onwards models. There seems to be a real lack of V6 models around also. Mostly 2 litre. I have bought a sporty Audi. I willlook at jag again maybeb 2021. I will be following this story
Unfortunately they have killed the V6 in the XE already and will be doing so with the facelift XF. I think Jaguar made a big mistake doing away with the XFR, and now they further dig a hole by dropping the V6. I guess the engines are sold old now they can't make them environmentally friendly to meet the ever stricter emissions targets set by the EPA and Europe's regulators. Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz don't care, they still have a halo car in each of the line ups.
I am so disappointed. Not in Jaguar, but in thee mechanics. That's working for them. I am so pissed off for you. Because this is unacceptable. This is disappointing. Bcuz we know how much you love and take extra extra care. your Jaguars xf.. this is unbelievable. For you to go through all of this. now I see why people say that it's not reliable. @@carfanfan indeed now as far as myself. I miss and love. My 2010 Jaguar XF premium 5.0 I had accumulated 205,000 miles on that car. Thee only problem I had with my Jaguar is that my mass airflow sensors Were bad And my check tire pressure sensors were bad. N That's it... other than that my car was very reliable, but I decided To sell it to a family member and I went and got thee 2012 XF portfolio. And as far as interior wise it has everything that tha 2010 have. Just different body style. And I'm in love with this car. ...

Did no one ever tell you Hilton NEVER, NEVER, buy the first year of a car model makeover? I heartily agree with you that it would have been better for you to have bought a used 2015 XF with low miles. As for myself, I am currently looking for a 2015 XFR with low miles here in San Francisco, California. Fortunately, I have a much wider selection here in the states than you have where you live. I find the XFR from the years 2010 to 2015 to have the most beautiful lines versus other years. And of course the XFR has that powerful V8 putting out a scintillating 510 HP! I do have some questions though for you Hilton. At what mileage do you feel XF’s start breaking down in general? 60K miles or higher? I have read dozens of CARFAX’s on XF’s and it seems like around that point major engine components start breaking down. But one issue does fascinate me, why do a lot of late model XF’s within 20K miles or so need their engine/powertrain computer/modules replaced? Also, I’ve noticed they have issues with their water pumps, rotors, moonroof leaking, and of course the little electrical glitches only seen in Jaguars. Any thoughts of yours would be appreciated! Oh, and one last eternal question....and don’t hold this against me, but why do the English drive on the wrong side of the road!?! I gather that’s why your steering wheels are on the wrong side of the car. ;-(( By the by.... cool haircut! ;-))
I do know that, and I didn't listen to my own advice 😊. So now I'm paying the price. This is why I'm wanting to buy the last year model of previous gen XF.
@@matthew4659 There are no 2015 XFR's currently for sale in our market, yet alone a silver one. I found a silver 2012 one for sale, good price too, but high mileage - no thanks. The problem with buying a used performance car is that the previous owner probably rung its neck while he owned it, sucked all the goodness out and is now passing the empty shell on to some poor guy who will end up selling his house to for the repair bills. There is an XFRS, but they want way too much money for it and it also doesn't have that crazy big spoiler on the tail which I think makes that car really special. It's black, low miles, but just to pricey for it's age.
Driving my 2017 XF S the sixth year now. I had the same issues with suspension noises in the beginning and the dealer also struggled to find the root cause. After two years, there seemed to be an official update from Jaguar to fix the issue, no problems with the suspension since. I had the same BT connection issue for six months. I also had problems with the steering. But for three years now (knock on wood 😉) There is not the slightest problem. Petfectly reliable car since.
They are beautiful cars, but the interior and quality really killed the XF. A car like this needs to be better than the competition and unfortunately Jaguar stepped the quality of materials down with the X260 while Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW stepped up their game with super luxurious interiors. Jaguar tried to fix all that with the facelift but it was too late. You only get one shot at it when you launch a new car and they effed it up. If it wasn't for that, the XF still would have been around. It was a good seller in South Africa until the X260 came out and suddenly sales dropped. Tears ago when I did a review on a loaner from Jag, my conclusion was that I couldn't wait to get my X250 back because it felt like a Jag. The XF lost its soul and people sensed that. Very sad. The XF brought Jaguar into the modern Era.
@@carfanfan I can not agree, I think the 260 was a progress in term of design and quality of materials. But the Germans have always been better in terms of quality and onboard technology/entertainment. I bought the Jag for the looks and the engine, which is a real peach and I can accept some quirks. I love the facts that it is a car that you do not see often on German roads, especially not the "S".
Jag for some strange reason used two different systems. The Harman and Bose. Not sure one you have but it's possible you have the newer version. You can tell by the 3D look to the GUI, that's the newer version.
I have had 2 brand new XFs and have found them to be excellent on the whole. The first one the Turbo blew after 3.5 years but Jag did a good will out of warranty replacement. The second one has been solid as a rock but the lesson is always have a dealer warranty with a jag cos things will go wrong. In the UK i can go to a number of dealers so if im not happy with one i will go to another. I am surprised to hear you say the old jag xf is better. I think the new one is far better. i would say an old XKR would be a fantastic choice though
Interesting comment there. Just this morning my mirrors wouldn't unfold when I opened the door. Started the car and they stayed closed. After five minutes I managed to get them to unfold. First time that's ever happened to me. My old XF was way more reliable and was double the age and four times the mileage. I accept that even new cars have issues and I'm not too bothered by the fact that things have gone wrong with it, but more the fact that the dealer doesn't seem to take fixing the issues seriously. I've been in contact with Jaguar head office and if they can't fix the troubles I've decided to sue the dealer to take the car back, less the miles I've put on it which is just 3,000kms since I bought it.
@@carfanfan I think actually showing them the dash cam footage might just spur them into action. On the subject of old xf vs new, I accept some of the interior materials are better on the old model, but overall i think the new one is a real step up especially in terms of driving. The new one just feels more solid and planted. It also refines and reigns in the styling a bit whilst managing to look sportier. I feel it would be a step back for you to go for an older model and at that point it might be time to give up on the XF. Honestly though, have a think about the XKR. They are very affordable, reliable and would certainly put a huge smile on your face.
@@GoogleAccount-vn8mu You won't believe this, but I looked at an XKR. It's just not practical enough for my needs though. We getany guests from afar and to pick them up at the airport in a coupe won't go down well 😊. I need a 4 door sedan. I'm currently looking at a really nice XFR, old shape, with low mileage. But first I want to see if they can fix my X260. The X260 is lighter than the old car, hence the improved driving experience. It's all aluminum. The old car is heavier and one feels it. The suspension soaks the bumps up better, but with suspension knocks, I don't know.
@@carfanfan How about an XKR for you and an affordable second car for those occasions you might need extra space? ;) Im really trying to find a way to get you in that XKR cos I know you will love it and the truth is it is a very good daily driver. I think the XKR manages to be a head and heart choice. Back on the subject of your XF; with modern cars the truth is sometimes they don't know what is wrong with them and end up throwing parts at the problem until they fix it. You bought an approved used Jag by the sound of it and that might mean that the dealer has some liability for the cost of repairs as opposed to Jaguar HQ. Where i'm going with this is that the dealer you bought it from might be trying to wriggle out of it cos it has a cost implication for them. But dont be deterred, the reality is that with an official Jag warranty you still have all the same protections with a used Jag but you may need to fight that little bit harder. I think the dash cam footage going viral threat might just get them moving :)
It's difficult to say. So many things trigger the alarm. If the ebrake isn't holding the car still and it moves ever so slightly it will trigger an event. The motion sensors could pick up a bug or a faulty sensor could trigger with a sudden change in temperature. A faulty door latch could trigger an event too or truck or hood latch. I'd recommend sitting the car and locking it with the key fob and then listening for anything after its been set. The motion sensors turn on about a minute after locking the car. So if you move inside the car they will trigger an event. I recall there was a way to check on the instrument cluster to see what caused an alarm event but I can't remember now. Google it to see if you can have the car tell you the reason. That will isolate the problem area.
As I said on one of your previous videos I'm considering a switch to x250 from my x260 xf 3.0s. My car has been back to the dealer so many times, thank god for warranty but I'm just tired of the issues now. Fancy 5.0 XFR my concern is I'm not sure if I could live with the low end tech and loosing my virtual dash, pro nav, apple CarPlay, andruid auto set up in my x260.
Hey Julian, keep a look out for my next video. It features an Android replacement system (including screen) for the X250 XF. It's still very new on the market, but manufactured by a good manufacturer who makes these for many other makes and brands. If I buy an X250, I will definitely be switching to this to bring the car into the current decade. My next video will tell you all about it and where you can buy it and also what to watch out for.
It’s a shame to have “lost confidence in the engine” and apparently, the car, when you’ve had a bad dealer experience, especially when the engine hasn’t given you any bother at all.
So true John. I really do love this car and enjoy it each time I drive it. I would still keep it even if they couldn't fix the bluetooth, but at least just the suspension and a/c trouble. The a/c in particular also concerns me as I've now read on the XE forums that condensers are prone to stone damage as they are made of weak materials. If they pin the a/c issue on me, they'll have a fight on their hands as it wasn't working from day one. I've already replaced the rear tires because whoever drive the car as a demo at the dealer before I bought it had a flat and plugged it. The plug leaked after I bought the car and had to replace both rear tires. So if they say the a/c is my fault due to wear and tear, that wear and tear happened while it was in their possession, then the dealer should pay - and after my experience with them, I'm pretty sure they'll abscond from all responsibility.
We have the same problem here in the uk,had a turbo blow and had to go back to dealer 6 to 7 times for what i would call bad fitting issues and poor parts.i think jaguar have drop the ball some were...Now waiting on engine change.:(
OMG Nigel, that sounds awful. I hope you come right soon. Problem with an engine swap it reduces the residual value. This morning my mirrors wouldn't unfold when I unlocked the car. Now they're fine again. Very odd 😏
Hi Hilton. That is so disappointing about your XF and frustrating to have an 'indifferent' dealer. That is not a good advert for the Jaguar brand and I assume you can't go to another dealer? A 30% loss in 7 months seems bad, but I just calculated that my Tucson has lost 29% from 5 months old (when I bought it) and 17 months (age now). I now realise to minimise my loss I should have bought a 2+ year old Tucson but it will even out over the years. You have a beautiful car, so hopefully the garage will make it perfect again. If not, complain to Jaguar HQ.
Hey Andy, I have communicated to Jaguar HQ and hopefully they will assist in sorting the niggles out. The main reason I bought a 2016 model is to have avoided the immense depreciation these cars suffer. As the owner of an SUV, you know more and more people are gravitating to SUV's so sedans are becoming extinct and people don't want them, thus the residual values on them just don't hold up. I knew this when I bought it and only expected a 15% drop in it's value between last year and now. Most new cars depreciate 40% in their first year and then around 15% per annum after that so over 5 years, it's reached rock bottom value-wise. However, I'm not quite there yet it seems :-D. The next month or so will determine what I do with this car and whether or not I get myself an older shape one with low mileage. Sometimes I think I should have stuck with the CX-5 ;)
@@carfanfan Perhaps the issues are akin to initial "teething problems" of a low mileage/nearly new car and it will be reliable thereafter. Hopefully Jaguar will rise to the occasion and confidence will return. With the rise of SUVs here it is now difficult to get a good looking saloon car. There are some lovely small/medium sized saloons in America which sadly we do not get because I know I would be tempted lol :-))
Hi Hilton. I totally agree with you the old Jaguar XF 2014 is million times better than the new one. Mine is now 6 years old with 19000 miles and ya fully loaded. It even has a rare sunroof and I keep it in pristine condition. Unfortunately I have to sell due to the introduction of a low emissions zone around London otherwise I would have kept this car for ever. I won’t be buying a new xf but chances are I’ll buy a xj.
I'd be careful buying an older Jaguar XF in the expectation it has fewer issues than your current one. Logically speaking, that's a recipe for disappointment. Outside of major drivetrain issue, there's a greater probability of issues with door seals or strange rackets etc. Like you, I love jaguar and I'm on my 4th. Having had 3 of them with the 3.0L supercharger, I can say I haven't had any drivetrain issues. However, it's very well known that they're plagued with issues.

Yep, I mentioned in my video that my heart is currently over-ruling my head as my head tells me to stick with the newer car with lower mileage, but having such a "new" car with so many issues and having had an older XF with fewer issues than this tells me the new XF was poorly designed and poorly built. Mercedes Benz went through a "poor quality" phase in the 2000's and learnt a hard lesson when sales started to dive. Jaguar know the XE and XF were bad from the start and have improved the XE with a comprehensive facelift. They're currently doing the same to the XF and the new XF facelift will debut soon - let's hope they address the quality of materials and parts used in the process.
Mate I am so sorry to heat about all this trouble you are having.As you recall I have the exact same car and model.I can only say this:All cars and it does not matter what make have problems,I am a bit older than you are and had more cars than you I have discovered that each car has its personality and same as people not all persons are the same .... Seems like your present one has a bit of a twist to it and it would be wise to let it go. I wish your next one will be of a better personality and temper ;)
My XFR was an amazing car . I bought it for 20k cost me about 10k over 2 years repairs alone . I loved the car but after the large turbo went for a second time and it’s not the turbo that fails it’s the ancillary’s which are not sold separately we parted ways.
My new "old" 2013 XF only has 40K miles. I took it to the dealership to diagnose a squicky/crackling noise in the suspension/tires. The car came back 2 days later and they said that there was nothing! wrong with it. I doubt they even looked! I knew it was not true, so took I took to my local guy who said not only my axle/boot?? was leaking oil and is probably cracked and needs to be replaced, I also need to replace my coolant tank...which I agree is leaking (based on the smell in the engine, lol smells like curry). I was so appalled on how irresponsible is the dealership ! They ignored the issue and put me back on the road...not sure why they would do that, because the services are not covered by their warranty since the car is now 7 years old. Even more of the reason to properly diagnose the issue. The car cracks and knocks at low speeds, and when the tires are turning slow. Do you think it's the boot? Why would the car with so few miles get this issue? It may cost $1800.00 for axle/boot and new rotor(s) which is absurd at 40K total??
Hi Diana. I totally agree. Irresponsible dealer indeed. You should give them a piece of your mind because if the axle failed while doing high speed you could have an accident. The axle you refer to is probably the CV joint connected to the rear axle (not sure if yours is all-wheel drive or not). If it's all-wheel drive, you will have CV's in the front too and they tend to make a terrible knacking/knocking noise especially when you turn full lock on the steering. That is also serious and needs attention quickly. The only reason a CV fails is when the rubber boot covering it breaks or tears with age and the grease leaks out. Then the bearings in the CV start to seize and that causes the knocking sound you hear when you turn the steering. If it's from the rear, same story but not when you're turning the steering wheel, more when the rear wheels are going over undulating surfaces. You can get aftermarket CV's on eBay for your Jag however, don't get anything made in China - it won't last. German made products are far superior. As far as this is concerned, I'd get an aftermarket European made part to replace it with as the manufacturer is probably the same one Jaguar use just without the hefty mark-up.

Thanks Angie. The latest XF is much better. You should look at a 2021 model if you can with the new dash. Jag really stepped it up with this facelift by improving the quality of materials. The prior facelift one is terrible. I could bear to drive this car anymore and went back to an older XF. But now the facelift has improved I might give it another look myself 😉
@@angie9241 The XE was facelifted a while ago and is currently a good buy as well. The trunk space is less, but it's still quite a large car and very comfortable. You should test drive both and see which one you prefer ;)
You made the same mistake I did. I had an 03 S Type V8, it was a great car never any problems. So at 15 year's old and 157k miles I bought an XF. The worst POS I've ever owned. 1st was the water pump, then trunk latch, two fuel pumps, electrical problems, a $2,000+ computer. I'd spent thousands of dollars for repairs on the horrible car. Then at 84k miles and never overheating or getting hot it blew the head gasket. That came with a repair bill of $10,000 because not only was the head damaged so was the aluminum block. It would have required a new engine. Well F that! I got rid of it and bought a Lincoln MKS Eco-boost AWD sedan. A much nicer car much nicer ride and a lot of features that aren't on a Jaguar XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition. Tata has ruined Jaguar "Piano Black" is Tata's fancy word for Cheap Black Plastic, never buy a Tata in Jag drag! The reason the shop is dragging thing's out is so your warranty period will expire! I took my car to Rusnick Jaguar Of Pasadena for a computer repair nobody else could do. The submitted over $12,000 for required repairs to my warranty company. I had the car checked at two different auto shops. They found nothing wrong with the car on the list. Including a $250 oil change and $95 for windshield wipers. I found out later the service reps and the mechanics receive a commission for everything they can add to the bill. Stay away from a Jaguar! It's a Tata!
I hear you Brian. I just love Jags design. They are beautiful to behold and not everybody drives one so they tend to turn heads where you go. I don't blame the car, I blame the dealer for their blaze' attitude towards my concerns. Yeah, you are right, they are dragging all this out so they can sell me an extended warranty or charge me cash for the repair. If they do the job under warranty, they have to charge Jaguar warranty rates which are 50% lower than retail rates because labor and parts are billed at cost - no profit for the dealer so they they don't want to do warranty jobs. It's bad for their numbers and targets. They're a bunch of plonkers in my eyes right now. They better get it right next time they have the car because that will be their last opportunity. I'll be going legal to force them to take the car back if they can't fix it. It's not such a complex thing to repair.
Glad i own the previous gen Jag XF as apposed to the new ones. Atleast those were built with a built more passion. The current XF are built with serious corners cut.
Hey, I was looking at 2016 Jaguar XF 35T prestige. What would you recommend me looking out for and what should i be aware of on it. The car is fairly low Km only 89k on it. Thanks for you opinion.
Mine only had 16k on the clock and I still had issues. A 35t, is that the V6? I've lost track of their names and engines. But definitely check the cooling system for leaks. Also when test driving check for knocks from the suspension. If you hear any knocks it's most likely the bushes on the stabilizer bar. Bluetooth doesn't stay connected for long and drops calls if it works at all. When test driving take it on the freeway and do at least 70mph to check for vibration. If there's vibration those low profile wheels are buckled. Check the ac is blowing ice cold. The high pressure return valve can soring a leak over time and the ac won't blow cold anymore. Check the electrical wires under the hood as they aren't covered with protective conduit from engine heat and the wires become brittle and break open. At that mileage it should have had a transmission oil change. Check that thos was done. It's an 8 speed ZF transmission and they are pretty robust, but if not serviced, the filter clogs up and shifts become clunky or it will go into neutral when stopping at traffic lights. That's about it 😉

@MohammedAlfaauri-xu8ug to be honest, any luxury competitor is going to have its issues. Audi A6, Merc E Class, Lexus IS, BMW 5 series, they all have issues. You would probably be better off buying an older XF X250 shape with low mileage. A 2014 or 2015 model. They were solidly built had little to no issues and at the end of their life cycle Jaguar had by then sorted out the very few issues those cars had when they came out in 2007. That's why I bought an old Audi A6 now. It's a 2008 model and by then, Audi had sorted all the warranty issues out with their suppliers and improved reliability. But if I had to go back to Jag, it would be a 2015 model with low miles.
Creating British Leyland Nostalgia whilst charging a pretty Penny! Its a pity ! Ditto on all the Supercharger problems. Where is the supercharger located, underneath the 4.2 lit V8 engine. If you have Supercharger Air ducting issue or seal issues it becomes a massive issue. The coolant expansion tank and the supporting hardware can not handle the engine heat. The coolant level sensor will be the first to malfunction.
Luckily on my old XF the coolant reservoir replacement took care of the coolant level sensor as it's built into the tank. I did have a low coolant fake warning once just before I realized the bottle was cracked and leaking even though the level was between max and min, and that indicated to me that something was indeed wrong there. I'm glad I picked that issue up before the bottle exploded as it operates under immense pressure. The V6 can overheat very easily and coolant issues need to be addressed immediately. But that old XF still proved to be a reliable luxurious form of transport and I miss it still today.
Maybe I will make you feel better. My car is 2016 (baby phase) and I got it with 10kkm on clock. My problems: leaking cooling system - had to reschedule my business trip, but JLR gave me spare car for 10 days. Not working CD - replaced. After that constantly resetting and freezing infotainment system - 4 times at dealer. Replaced some modules etc. In the end loaded totally new version of system, which was not available on the market yet - solved. Not fully closing window in drivers doors - 2 times at dealer - they could not find the problem, but it fixed itself... Failure of SIM card module - 3 times at dealer. First they claimed that Iused wrong SIM (it was working fine though before I complained). Eventually they replaced whole module - fixed. When the car is parked for 3 or 4 weeks and I use then airco it blows horrible smell into cabin, like burned plastics/oil/(mould?). It goes away after about 2 hours driving... The dealer though always was friendly and trying to do their best (Netherlands). They Never washed my car though, until I started servicing the car after warranty expired :P I still love driving my car :) Cheers! and good luck fighting them!
BTW I put on my car 50,000 km in 2 years and since the dealer fixed all issues (except the window and smelly airco which they just cleaned, or so they say but it still smells) all is in order. hopefully it stays like that.
Hey Artur, sounds like you've been through the mill with yours ;). I drove the car again this morning and it feels to me like the strut mounts are worn. I think they've misdiagnosed the suspension issue, but I have to give them a fair chance now to fit the other parts to see if it does indeed solve the problem. Strange you mention that funny a/c smell too. I had it when I bought my car and kept asking the salesman what's that funny smell. That's why I did a video on how to get that leather smell back into your car, because it stank inside. Today, that smell is gone luckily, but it had the same smell you describe. Burnt plastic or oil smell. Not pleasant in a car like this. My old XF was 10 years old and still smelt like leather inside. I love that smell, but this car just doesn't have the same smell.
@@carfanfan i know what you mean, my old Volvo S60 had same smell... This a/c thing is definitely something odd. Dealer tells me it is condensation drying out. I never had that in any other car before though. Very weird. How did the ride feel? Still thinking of selling it?
Dear Hilton! Sorry to hear this level of customer care, it's so... So Eastern Europe-ish. Unacceptable. As a proud owner of a 2008 XF SV8 I have to say, the MK1, or the facelilft is much more of a car. Yes, it lacks some fancy feature the new version's equipped with, but mechanically the old one's superior. Especially this SV8 beast. I'm sure you wont't be disappointed changing bacwards. Thanks Peter. When I test drove that 3L V6 s/c the other day, I felt like I was at home in it. Pity we couldn't reach agreement on the price. I won't buy one without a two year warranty at least to cover me in the initial ownership experience, so I need to keep this cost in mind when buying as well. But hopefully, the right one will come along or they'll remedy my XF's issues and I might decide to keep it. Thanks for watching ;)
I'm not surprised at all by this, last year I went in to look at buying a Jaguar XE, I arrived 5 mins early for my appointment, the salesman left me waiting for 15 minutes, then just took me out to a XE, and said "do you like it, do you want to buy it" didn't want to let me test drive it, then when I eventually did test drive one, and got back they tried to get me to buy a brand new Landmark edition similar to what i drove, I spent 3 hours going through figures with two of them trying to push me, In the end i gave up and told them i'd come back. I had them call me multiples times over the month to get me to buy a new XE, in the end I just ignored the calls and went out and bought a newer version of my at the time current car which had been all the features I wanted from the Jaguar, and was significantly cheaper. I've always wanted to own a Jag, especially the XE when it first came out, however my experience, and your video has put me right off.
Very sad to hear this. I honestly don't want to put people off buying a Jag, just wanted to give an update of the real issues I've had with mine. I bought this car as a demo vehicle from this dealer and I don't think whoever drove it before me cared for it much. They must have driven like hell over speed bumps and the like. Other than these three things, the car is great and the engine is fantastic. It's just that I now doubt if it will continue to be after my experience with the dealer. I will be moving to another dealer further away once this one has corrected the warranty claims on it.
@@carfanfan I agree, It's not the car that's the problem it's the dealerships attitude to it's customers that's the problem, which is not what you'd expect from a luxury car brand.
If you want better service from your dealer then you should name them in one of your videos. Dealers hate bad reviews. Especially when you've got people around the world watching your videos. I'm in the US and they would hate it for me to know that they are not treating customers well. Next thing. It's good to see that you're an honest person. A dishonest person would sell the car to another person and let them deal with the problems. The good thing about buying a Jag is that you can get them cheap (used) because of the depreciation. The bad thing about the Jag is that same depreciation holds true when you go to sell it. One thing you might try is to take the car in and tell them you're going to wait for it. According to Jaguar, you'll go straight to next in line. Your car will not go to the end of the line. That way you can question them as soon as they're done. I found this out when I dropped my XF off the night prior, just to get the oil changed. 36 hours later and they hadn't even touched it. I thought that they'd wrecked it joy riding. When I went in to complain to the Service Manager she told me about Jaguars policy. I don't know why they even make appts.

The F Pace has its issues but generally a very good car. Based on Velar's platform, it makes for a well built car and comfortable too. I've driven a few. The supercharged 3L felt underpowered to me. The 2L turbo had way more torque which made it feel more powerful. But I do love a V6 growl. Just a pity those engines have coolant issues. From coolant bottles to water hoses to tiny hoses buried deep inside the supercharger which means a supercharger out job just to replace two cheap hoses which should have been metal.
gee I'd be very angry too ! not what you'd expect from a premium dealer. oddly enough there are lots of 2.0.litre petrol xfs coming on the market at very cheap prices. maybe people have come to the same conclusion as you ? I'm definitely keeping my 09 XF now after your experience with mine . Have you tried the facelift 3.0d ? the suspension is.like your newnone, I think.youd like.that
I realise this is an old thread .The knock you describe is imo usually a faulty shock absorber. Had very similar on my Volvo V70. Jaguar are progressively shooting themselves in the foot with reliability issues and worse than that thrir arrogant attitude towards customers. The Mk 2 XF (2016 on) is rubbish compared to the Mk1 and Mk1 Facelift models. Have you had any issues with the Ingenium engine yet ? Good luck and hope you get sorted.
Chris, i had a Volvo S80 for some years, when i bought the Jag XF i thought it would not be as good, pleasantly surprised, very comfortable no issues, regular oil changes looks brilliant and drives like a dream, Mercs are good, of course they are.
Hey Chris, I think the important thing to take away from my video is that it was actually the dealer stuffing me around. They were incompetent. Not the car. I am full of sh*t when it comes to my cars and too much of a perfectionist, so everything must be perfect and they were not listening to me when I told them the 3 things that I found wrong with it - it did turn out to be bushings on the stabilizer bar that were worn because the car stood for 2 years without being driven in their storage before I bought it. Also, the a/c pipe was leaking at the filler nozzle and needed replacing - again, because the car stood too long and the a/c wasn't used during that time - the heat here is unforgiving so that seals perished. The bluetooth simply needed a software update and instead of them just doing the update, they got several people to connect their phones to the car, made calls and didn't experience it drop calls so they left it until I threw a tantrum in their showroom upon which they then got the car in for 3 days and sorted all the issues out at once. Generally, Jaguars are way more reliable these days than people give them credit and the only time you're likely to see a dealer is when it goes in for its annual service.
Looked at one of these remembered the utterly insane anger the last JLR product brought me to and ended up buying another Honda, they just cannot build a reliable vehicle to save their lives.
I have a 2009 xf premium luxury with the naturally aspirated 5.0 It is coming on 179k miles and going great! However! I did not get the level of service that I am used to at the dealer that I am used to. I don't think I'll be buying jaguar again. I hear that jaguar is now owned by a Chinese company. There were protests in the streets of China of jaguar owners complaining about the poor quality! No more jaguar for me unless it's an older one
LoL, don't be. Mine might have had a couple of issues, but it's really the dealer that let me down, not my car. They have since realized they're dealing with a hot tamali here and take out the kit gloves every time they deal with me to make sure they fix anything properly that I might raise to them ;) The car has since been very reliable and such a joy to drive. I look for reasons to just go out and drive. Not to mention the looks it gets ;D

Yes, I had the same issue with the Bluetooth on my xe 2017. They blame it on Jaguar. They also said it was Android and not Apple devices that were having the issue. I think the last update worked for me.
I've shortlisted a few 2L petrols but also mostly interested in the 3.0L superchaged. I've driven a couple already and am impressed with the power and weight of the car. It's just perfectly balanced.

Looking for a bit of help . I have an XF 2016 3.0V6 Diesel . The suspension I have felt hard since day 1 . So a month ago I reduced the tyre pressure from 36psi to 29psi . A lot more comfortable for a short time . Now the car is back to being brick hard and judders over bumps and can feel the road surface through the car . Adaptive suspension doesn’t seem to do anything . I wondered is it possible the car is stuck in firm mode ? HELP 🙈
Hey Kev. I had a similar issue with my XFR. It stood for 2 years prior to me buying it and the adaptive dampers were rock hard. I asked Jaguar to replace all 4 shocks but they came back saying there was nothing wrong with them. They disconnected the battery for a few hours and it somehow reset them. Now they act like they should. My car is nice and soft at town speeds and the moment I get over 60mph they stiffen up and I can feel it's firmer on highways. If you have adaptive suspension, give it a try. You got nothing to lose 😉.
Hi Hilton , do you know there is not one post on the internet showing you how to get into the boot of the X260 if you disconnect the battery and shut the boot . Jump leads to the jumper points under the bonnet and quickly press the boot release button seems the only way or remove the back seats . Now there’s a video you could make
@@kevinconnor9414 Thanks Kevin, great idea. Unfortunately I sold my X260 when I bought the XFR. Two Jags in my garage? Hashtag maintenance costs :D I need to do some research on the X250 as many people seem to be lost on how to access the trunk without the key. It's never happened to me, but if you close the trunk with the key in it, the trunk will automatically pop open as it senses the key is there. So it's an odd one.
What year was your other Jag? I mean something is wrong with the dealership.THIER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE AND IT SEEMS lIKE THEY JUST DONT GIVE A F not even about the warranty..I have a 2014 X F Portforlio only one issue I had with it.I down shifted way to low on the paddle shifter and it somehow loosed a wire to the fuel pump that caused a short.Its a great ride and fun I still have it.Not as a daily driver.I have a Very reliable beater with around 300000 K miles that runs like new.(Nissan Xerra).But I only take the Jag out to treat myself every once in Awhile..Sorry about that one...Get in touch with Jaguar and put the Dealership on blast.
My old XF was a 2009 model and I sold it in 2019 much to my own disgust. I regretted selling it the moment it drove out my driveway knowing I'd never see it again. The 1st gen XF's are solid cars.
@@carfanfan Yes.Another issue I have with my 2012.I did get a good deal without a warrenty.Remember Ford owned it.And I whould not be surprised if most of all the tooling for build is still used and Tata is smart to know not to change anything to thiers... All suspensions are basic and easy to work on with a little study and elbow grease.And the more you learn about auto repair the more fun it is.The first time I changed the oil on my Jag after studying how.(And saving two hundred plus dollars)I was proud and thought how cool it was.Ford had some issues with the rubber used it's fair but it was a problem with how long it lasts.With the suspension.(Strut mounts).The rubber.Thats only on one side ,Also on my drivers side issue is the lower control arm is not good (Drivers side) U.S. When I hit 55 to 60 MIles per hour i get a little shudder.The squeak from the strut mount was solved with some armour all.(Armour all has minute amount of petroleum in it that acts as a lubricant.(slick)but not enough as a wd forty that will disintegrate rubber after awhile.its a good idea to spray some on your motor mounts and any rubber you see under the car suspensension.With mine i think the previous owner hit a pot hole.But i do love learning about the cars mechanics.Fun to me.Look for some in U.S.Hilton.(In the southern states)Northern U S cars may have rust issues even if not seen.Cheers
@TheWiz2024 I haven't personally, but the X260 XF will easily go up to that mileage with minimal problems. As long as you maintain it properly. They like regular oil changes. Most parts were Ford so they are solid cars.
I don't think this is Jaguar manufacturing fault i think this is a Dealer Fault! In Britain we have "the sales of goods act" which with the problems you've been having would mean you could return the car and receive a full refund.
We have the Consumer Protection Act here but that gives one a 6 month return period to return anything. Unfortunately, they dragged this out so long that my statute has run out.

I've been wanting a Jaguar XF since they were launched in 2008, but I am second hand car man and it takes some time (years) for me to be able to afford a car I like. However I finally bought a 2009 XF and absolutely love it! In fact this is my 68th car in 30 years of driving and my first ever Jag and it has completely won me over. I've been watching Hiltons videos for quite a while and taken on board his tips and advice on his old XF of which some I will be doing to my car. I really enjoy the videos and Hitons relaxed attitude, keep them going!
Hey there Mark. Many thanks for watching my videos. I'm thrilled to hear you've bought at 2009. My old one was a 2009 and I still say it was the best car I ever owned. Even better than my new XF. It just felt different to the new one. The difference is Ford owned Jag when the older one was designed and they didn't cut corners. Tata own Jag now and quality has gone downhill. The new one is still fun to drive, but it doesn't have that feel of the older XF. I'm still looking for an older one 2014 or 2015 model to trade my new one in on because they are the better car. If I find an XFR at a good price, I might even buy one. But a 3L s/c is the main thing on my list with low mileage and full dealer service history - and they are scarce, especially since lockdown. Hopefully with lockdown having eased here in South Africa, car dealers can finally start doing business again and I'll find what I want. Hey, quick question as fast as the XF R sport , what years do you feel is the best year to buy? I'm hearing between 2009 and 2012 that those models were more reliable. Also do you have any recommendations on the XJR?
What's up Doc? 🤣 I test drove an XJR and it was awesome. If you ha e a garage big enough to store it then sure, get it. Same engine as the XFR and it's lighter thanks to its aluminum body. Just as fast. It wouldn't fit in my garage so I abandoned the idea and went for XFR. The 2009-2011 preface lift versions are just as good as the facelift, but I'd go for a 2019 and up as Jaguar sorted out many of the earlier gremlins by then thanks to their warranty data that showed which parts were problematic. These cars do suffer coolant leaks and super charger bearing failure which can be expensive to fix. When looking at one listen to the engine from from the front for any gargling noises which will indicate a/c bearing failure. Check the coolant reservoir that it's between min and max marks exactly. If it's low, there's a coolant leak. Good luck.
I’ve got a 2017 XF and I’m a little disappointed with the build quality of it. The boot doesn’t open fully when you press the fob (it just clicks open); Jaguar told me it’s not supposed to but I’m convinced it is. I have a similar problem with my Bluetooth too, and last time mine went to Jaguar the 20” rims came back scuffed.
@@simonclayton1148 sorry to hear Simon. Do you have the electric tailgate? The Bluetooth fix requires a software update. It fixed mine. The manual lifting tailgate should lift all the way. Could be the springs are tired. Yes, even on a new car the springs could be defective.

Hey Malcolm - yes absolutely. I knew the new XF wasn't as good as the old one and my review back in 2016 of that white one was actually spot on now that I actually own one. Human beings aren't stupid, we know by a certain sixth sense when something is bad for us or good for us and I just knew back then that Jaguar had cut some corners with this car. I should have listened to my own advice ;)

I personally got my '16 XF 3.0 35t this year and i couldn't be more happier.. i have no issues what so ever. Already drove 3.000+km and she had 41.400km on the clock when i got her.. Thanks man. I'm sure once these issues are taken care of, it will prove to be a reliable car as the engine and tranny have never skipped a beat yet. It's more the hang-on bits that are falling apart. It is still enjoyable to drive, but not having A/C is not acceptable in my country as it's hot here all year round and we use A/C everywhere we go. I'm hoping they find the cause of the A/C gas leak as well before the warranty runs it's course.
It's hard to find a mechanic who will take the time to diagnose a problem. They just want to replace parts and charge big bucks. I had similar problems with the Toyota service here. I've just gone back to working on the car myself.

Absolutely. This dealer treats me totally differently now. When they give me shoddy service I tell them immediately that it's unacceptable and insist on talking to the Dealer Principle. They now know the level of service I expect and I can say they have improved dramatically. When I take my XFR to them, they keep in touch, make sure they diagnose everything properly and don't hand my car back to me until everything I asked to be done is actually done. They don't wash my car because I give them strict instructions not to test drive it or wash it. They even have to park it in a spot I designated so that other people don't open their doors against my car.
@@carfanfan All this should be what we expect when paying and dealing with a premium brand. It is simply unacceptable to lie and not take responsibility of an issue. I have owned Lexus and several Toyotas, their service absolutely superb! I am so well looked after. I'm now planning to buy my neighbour's Jag XFS Portfolio. The only thing that is putting me off is the snobbery attitude when I go into my Jag dealership. The experience of is so very different when I step into a Lexus dealership. These luxury car brands need to learn a thing or two from the Japanase on how to look after their customers. It's the very reason why I keep on going back to them.
@@VishalGupta-od5mf Yes, the service experience after buying a car is the most important. Rip them all new one's from the first time you go to them, and after that they will tread lightly around you. I can now be friendly and nice to them, but initially I had to throw a fit in their showroom to get their attention. Now they don't want a repeat of that :D

Hello Hilton, I own an XF, 2010 ,I love watching your videos, I learnt always something new. You can't trust the dealers. I bought a second hand jag 3000D from a friend, who has a maintenance contract. Last summer I had troubles with the gearbox, and let it flushed ( the seal was still on the gearbox- they never had it flusht). Here in Belgian there is a shortage of parts, and I had to wait 2 months for a gear selector but.... I have the car now 6 years , with 250.000km on the clock, and I don't think that I gonna change him for another.

I still have a late 2013 XF and I thoroughly enjoy owning it. Yea sure it has some issues and niggles like you explained i.e front suspension problems but those are its weakness more than anything else and is easily fixed. And also I honestly believe the previous XF looks much more beautiful than the current one. Anyway hope ur disappointments will end soon and be back with the “old” XF that you are looking for. Thanks mate. The two main issues are simply suspension and a/c. Not difficult to remedy or repair. My experience has mostly been marred by the dealer's indifference at my concerns. What they don't realize is they're not just dealing with cars, they also deal with people and we are all different. Unfortunately for them, I'm more particular about my cars than other customers. I overheard them tell a lady her brakes need doing and when she heard the bill, she told them to leave it. Then I saw her outside by her car and realized why - every body panel on that poor XFS was dented or scratched. She doesn't give a hoot about her Jag. And they realize that, but surely when they see how well I look after my car, they would treat me accordingly - but no, they treat me like that lady who doesn't give a damn. The engine is indeed very good and so is the gearbox. Very smooth and just keeps going. Copes well in peak traffic too. It would be a pity to have to get rid of this car, but if this all continues, I will have no choice. And if I can't find an older XF to replace it with, I may have to switch to a different brand altogether again like I did with the Mazda CX-5 - that thing was flawless.
Oh, another thing Hilton old boy....I found 3 very nice XF’s here in the US. 2 are in Florida, one being an XFR, and the other being the one I told you about, the grey 2013 XF 3.0L V6 w/24K miles with duotone red/charcoal grey interior and the optional side fascia, rear spoiler and front fascia in Florida. This Jaguar had only one owner, a rich woman who drove it when she came down to Florida to spend the winters and then only drive it to the country club to golf. This jag had early issues with front wheel bearings replaced, wheel speed sensor replaced, O2 sensor replaced, hood adjusted, two wheel alignment, all before the car had 3K on the clock!
It then had the window switch replaced, the transmission range switch replaced at 17K miles and the battery replaced at 24 K miles. That’s it for its service history. Not much else went wrong with this jag. This Jaguar also has the lowest mileage of the three.
The other 2 are both Salsa Red XFR’s with unblemished ivory leather interiors. I mean they look brand new.
The one XFR in Florida the other XFR in Illinois (a snow state, (i.e., possible rust).
The XFR in Florida is a 2014 with 50K miles on it. It’s service record shows the best regular oil changes with not much else gone wrong. It did have the battery/charging system “checked” 7X in 6 years but nothing repaired or replaced in relation to them checking out the system 7X.
The XFR in Illinois has 42K miles on the clock but it has no service history on its CARFAX, though the dealer whose selling the car told me it was sold by them and serviced for the life of the jag by them and had an owner who babied the car. I’m thinking maybe the don’t enter their service work to CARFAX. I was told this by other dealers too. Maybe their dealership doesn’t participate with the CARFAX service.
Both XFR’s are in pristine condition, driven by women (so absolutely no wrinkles in the drivers leather seat!). Non smoker, always garaged.
My question to you Hilton is this, which one would you choose???
The two XFR’s look mean and fast but so does the grey 3.0L XF car with its added optional side fascia, rear spoiler and front fascia and upgraded rims of a much newer year .
The only difference is the HP (510 for the XFR’s vs. 340 for the V6 ), rim size (19”vs. 20”). MPG (22 mpg combined for the V6 vs. 18 mpg combined for the two XFR’s) and of course some interior finish differences.
Oh lastly, and maybe more importantly, the price tags ($18K for the 3.0L grey jag vs. $29K for both the 2011 and 2014 red XFR’s).
My thoughts are; does one really need 510 HP these days? I mean I can’t open it up here or the CHP will pull me over and give me a ticket if I drive over 80 mph!! Plus, I’m thinking, a V8 engine is a lot more costly to maintain and with jags I worry about what could go wrong with such a more powerful engine vs. the smaller 2013 V6 3.0 L non XFR jag.
Anyway, if you get the time let me know your thoughts. All three jags look brand new. And the grey 3.0L does only have 24K miles on it. Not bad for a 2013 XF. Though I’d love to have an XFR, does the additional $11K make sense vs. the 2013 premium jag with 24K miles on the clock?
Hey Mathew, I'd be tempted to get an XFR, however, if you're happy to spend a little more on maintenance, then I would go with the XFR. Keep in mind, everything costs more on a performance car. It has two more spark plugs than the 3L s/c and it has performance brakes which cost a small fortune to replace when the time comes.
One gripe I always had with the X250 is that they were heavy on brakes and the brake dust would accumulate on the wheels within two days of washing it. Standard brakes are very expensive to replace, but XFR will be double that. As for the air filters, they are the same in the 3L as the 5L XFR.
Personally, I'd go for the Floriday XFR with 50k on the clock. I'm crazy that way, as I don't mind paying the extra cost in maintenance, but since Jaguar no longer make XFR's, they will become even more sought after five or seven years from now and prices will start to go up instead of down. Florida is a hot climate, so just make sure it has definitely had its oil changes regularly as those engines get very hot indeed and the oil degrades very fast.
I wouldn't worry too much about the 7x battery module reset as all X250 XF's have that annoying battery low warning - it doesn't mean the battery is low, just that the car is preserving energy to ensure the battery can start it next time round. Jaguar should have done an update on the old system to do away with that warning. The battery light to pay attention to is the little red one by the dials - if that comes on, then it's serious. But you mentioned the owner didn't drive it much and that's why the battery low warning constantly displays on the infotainment - it just needs a good long drive during the day to charge and cycle the battery properly.
I do agree that there is a vast premium between the 5L and the 3L but the power difference is also vast - that 5.0 super charged engine is a total beast and is only available in Range Rovers, F-Type and F-Pace SVR now since XF no longer has a halo model. The best thing to do is to drive the 3L and then drive the 5L if you can find them within easy reach of each other - then decide which of the actual cars will suit you. Both are fantastic cruisers, however, the 3L will give you better gas mileage.
It's really up to your personal preference - I'd truly be torn between a low mileage 3L and a higher mileage XFR - they're both great cars and have great engines. Just check though, if memory serves, I think the XFR has a 6 speed ZF tranny as opposed to the 8 ZF speed in the 3L. I think the 6 speed was called a 6HP26 ZF transmission - very good tranny, used in BMW and Audi's as well. So many service parts available. You could even service them at a ZF tranny workshop. Just make sure if you go for the Florida XFR that the tranny has had it's service. It's due for one now as 6 years has lapsed. In the manual, they say the transmission has lifetime oil in it - that means, the lifetime of the warranty or service plan - but in the workshop manual, they must be serviced every 6 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. The hotter the climate, the quicker the oil degrades.

Hi Hilton. Im sorry to hear of your issues with your Jag but let me give you the other side to this. Ive just had two washer pumps replaced under warranty- the headlight and windscreen pumps both went. I have the extended warranty on my car and the dealership have been brilliant about the work. It being completed with out any issues . Also I get the point you made about "drooling " over your old Jag. I have a 3.0V6 2014 XF in Ultimate black with grey leather interior. I had it machine polished and ceramic coated and yes, I drool over mine too. The 3.0 litre engine is an absolute joy to have, its happy to potter around town at 30 mph but press all the buttons and floor the throtle and the car hurls itself at the horizon like a javelin. Like you I prefer the old style XF but I am awaiting the new model that comes out later this year, just to see if I can be tempted. Dont give up on the brand just yet
Thanks. I definitely won't give up on the brand due to a delinquent dealer. Sure, they've spoilt my Jaguar experience, but I still love Jaguar and will never get it out my blood. So I'm looking mostly at 3L V6 S/C models. Some have high mileage, but if I can get one with around 30,000 to 40,000 km's on the clock for a good price, I'll pounce on it pronto. I like the white with the black pack. They just look so good with black wheels and grills. Aggressive and Aston Martinish. Not that I like Aston - not the modern ones any way. The DB7 and DB9 were beauts.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. Sounds like JLR dealer only your area doesn’t really care much about their own brand and customers. I wish you good luck finding another better jag for yourself and different dealer with it may be.
Hi Hilton. I share your pain and experiences. I lost confidence in my previous XF X250 after I had the front discs and pads changed 5 times in a single year (honestly) to address a wheel shudder that the dealer couldn't diagnose. Aircon failed, stop/start failed, constant battery warnings from the day I bought it. Mileage was getting high so like you I upgraded to a one year old X260 RSport. Despite being 6 years newer the satnav was several years out of date and didn't include main roads and bridges that the old one did. It took a year for them to provide an update that cost me £90 UK. They said they would refund me but never did. Other than that the Bluetooth would cut me off mid-call as yours did and the reverse camera failed as often as it worked but never a fault found. To be honest I've loved both cars, they look the part and they're great to drive and like any make, things can go wrong. But Jaguar have a lot to learn about customer service. My next car will NOT be a Jaguar. That's not based on the quality of their cars but solely on their "got your money, now go away" attitude. I wouldn't consider going back to an older model either Hilton. You'll get the same poor service whatever the model.
Thanks TB. Unfortunately, the dealer can make or break a brand and this one isn't doing Jaguar any favors. I have sent Jaguar Head Office a note to inform them of this and hopefully they'll take action against the dealer. I now have to give them a fair chance of repairing it, but what is fair to me? This is the 3rd time they've got to fix this issue. As with your experience, your dealer let you down and now your perception of your car is tainted. I feel the same way about my XF now, but knowing what I know of my old one, they're just better put together. I think the early facelift 2013 models suffered the most as Jaguar introduced a lot of new technology into that car. It was a comprehensive facelift from the stop/start technology to the sound system which got a complete overhaul. Many electronics were also replaced and (improved), but my the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" rings so true here - but manufacturers are all playing in the competition game of trying to outdo each other and this ends up in customer dissatisfaction when they didn't get it quite right.
So many problems, I feel your pain! On the other hand I have not had one single issue with anything on my 2008 XF. It just shows you one car can be different to the next - but I think that can happen with any make.

I did the same when my car was leaking coolant, I complaied to JLR and they arranged spare rental JAG for me for the time of repair - dealer wanted to charge me for that. Cheers.
Hilton if you have this love-hate relationship so early just swap it with no regrets. Especially if the dealer acts like it owns your car.

Shocked to hear about your experience. By contrast, the only issues I had with my 2017 model was the recall, a cracked wheel and a dodgy Bluetooth connection, but the service dept did the recall (and gave me a disco sport courtesy car), immediately updated the system (and gave me an EPace courtesy car) and they introduced me to a local wheel welder. So far no other problems occurred despite already being at 54k miles (86k+ kms)

We have a 2012 Jaguar XF, 3.0 V6 twin turbo diesel, 275bhp. Ours is a White Sport with the Anthracite Grey 20 inch wheels. Bowers and Wilkins sound upgrade. Jaguar, you need to sort this dealer out because it doesn’t take much to turn customers away in this day and age, simple as that.

I've had my jaguar xf sportbrake 2.2 2014 for 6 years and never taken it to a dealer for sevice or local garage thats probably why it still works, its had 2 sets of tyres replaced brake pads and done all the oil / air filters myself just replaced the batteries and it runs like the day i bought it. It has no service history but im not worried although it has been serviced. Ive kept a record of servicing for my reference but I'm not looking to get rid of it anytime soon, l love this car. I'm looking to change the front discs when i replace the front pads apart from that shes a goodie. Just remembered the only other thing was wiper blades.
Sorry about that. I think you got lucky though with your old one. We have an XF and it has been the least reliable car we've ever owned but that's not to say it is unreliable. It's just not AS reliable as our other cars. And of course, everything is a fortune to fix. I love Jags but I feel anyone considering one should know going in, that it will probably break 5 to even 10 times more often than a similarly priced Lexus. I'm not hating either. That's been my experience and that of a few others I know with Jags. They are awesome but reliability isn't their strongest trait.
Agree, after warranty get rid off it. Jaguar sure makes my Honda look like a tank. 150k miles, 2011 model, and ZERO issues... absolutely nothing other than tires, wipers and oil 😄. I do like Jags they have presence unlike invisible Hondas

It’s upsetting to hear how your dealership is treating you. I’ve only had my Jag F Pace a little over a year, picked it up with 26,000 Km. on the clock. It has the supercharged V6, simply love the performance and handling. Had the car in for a servicing last Oct wherein they also upgraded the infotainment at N/C. A couple of days later, I got a call from the service agent to make sure I was happy, asking me, on a scale of 1 - 10 how did she do? Then exclaimed that if she didn’t get 10, wanted to know what she could do to make it a 10. A few days later I received an email from the dealership wanting to make sure I was happy with them and asked me to fill out questionnaire. Two weeks later, Jaguar Canada sent me a questionnaire wanting to know if I was happy with the service I had received, what I liked and didn’t like about the model, and what I would change. I thought this treatment was because I was new to the brand, but no. I had the car in for warranty work on the all wheel drive system and I also noted that I felt a very slight vibration through the pedals and the floor on and off. It was so slight and inconsistent that I thought they’re not going to be able to replicate it to find the problem. They had the car for a week while I drove their discovery. The end result was that the front wheel drive pump actuator was faulty and the vibration problem was fixed. I asked what was causing the vibration? He said they replaced the front right wheel bearing. I stated on car with so few miles, I never would have even thought of a wheel bearing. He stated neither did the Mechanic, he only found it by putting the car on the hoist with it in gear and went around all four wheels with a stethoscope and probe. I was impressed. In the end, same as before, every level of Jaguar wanted to know if I was happy with the service. Short answer, oh yeah. Any way, Hilton, I hope things start to go better for you. If not, suggest they contact Jaguar Canada and Langley JLR in British Columbia to find out how to keep customers truly satisfied. Cheers.
Thanks Gordon. Seems like you've had your fair share of issues with your F-Pace, but as I said to the Service Manager, I understand things will go wrong, it's how they address it that matters most to me. I'm giving them a 3rd chance to fix the issues and also to redeem themselves. I feel vindicated that they now admit there is a knocking sound from the suspension and that they've found which components are causing it. Hopefully it will fix that issue for once and for all. The AC I suspect is the compressor leaking. They have dye in the system now and will check it next time it comes in. Customer service is paramount to me at any car dealer, but with a Jaguar, you expect a little more. I've been contacted by Jaguar South Africa and will be giving them information on my experience - hopefully that will make a difference too.
Im just about to buy an XF 2.2D and I'm delighted with your video... Yeah I heard that Jags after 2016 are not so reliable anymore... and tbh, the old models are way more beautiful.

Sorry to hear about alll this crap you have been put through - I was at one stage considering changing from my C Class Merc to a 2009 XF 2.7 Diesel with 150,000km and it looked well presented - but to be honest I dont need a money pit - clearly in all the reviews I have studied these XFs have a lot of issues -- I decided to stick with my old 2009 but very reliable C Class Merc - greetings from Ireland
I’m actually getting a Jaguar XF R Sport 25 AWD, and obviously I know it’s a double edge sword, but I’m sure the dealership I’m purchasing from has a good reputation, but I could be wrong. The car itself looks beautiful, it was barely driven, warranty still available, and I’m going to test drive it in 3 weeks or so. I was also sent a video of one of the guys from the dealership driving, and I’m looking forward to it.
I had vibrations in my xf... was the wheels being out of round and front control arms. I had hit some bad pot holes which must have worsened it.
One of the things I dont like about the recent gen XF's are the low maintenance engine cover.

Really sorry for you. I too had an XF 2.7d. After selling, I wanted to buy a 2018 XF, but the interior was too plain. The ventilations have changed, the aluminum has disappeared, etc. Today I bought an XF 2011 3.0d full option with a sunroof. But I wanted to buy a 2014 XF in 3.0d, it's very difficult to find this kind of car in Belgium in Brussels as a full option. If I can give advice to all, do not buy any more Jaguar XF from 2016, because all the products have lost quality.
Let's hope they fix the quality issues with the facelift due out later this year.
I drove my friend's 3ltr diesel XF 2009 last week and it was a lovely comfy easy car to drive. His has over 150,000 miles on it and drives like a new car.
I had a look at the older XF models for sale and can't believe I can actually buy a 2.7ltr V6 diesel 2008 with 125,000 miles on it with a full 12 months road worthness test (MOT test in the UK) on it. Very tempted to go have a look at it.

Hey Stephen. Even if it passed the MOT I'd still make sure it has full service history. These cars are cheap now, but when things break, they aren't cheap to repair. Or at least buy a 2 year mechanical warranty for peace of mind. 😉

Is it true what they say about the excellent reliability of the first XF with the 2.2 diesel engine with 200 HP and, on the contrary, the AWFUL performance and reliability of the 2 litre Ingenium diesel which produces 180 HP? Hey David. Unfortunately it is true yes. The ingenium engines apparently have a high failure rate. I was shocked at this because the 2l petrol uses the same engine block. It would be a good choice going with the first gen 😉
What jerks, I hope you proceed with a formal complaint with the video as evidence once you get your car fixed. Unfortunately if that is the only dealer in your area it could hurt your future dealings or maybe and hopefully it will benefit you and they will know not to try to pull the sheets over your eyes again. We have one dealer near us in the New Orleans area but my wife was a cheerleader years ago in high school with the daughter of Parreti Jaguar and hopefully they will not do that to us. This past week I have just changed my XF(same as your old one) for a 5 series M Sport. After 5 years ownership the Jag was the most reliable car I’ve ever owned, but I couldn’t risk going for a newer Jag based on all the issues I hear about. I hope you get sorted soon.
Hey Scott, I hear you my friend. This is why I'm looking for an older one. Fewer troubles and happier motoring. Problem is, if I do buy an older one, I'd probably have leave the Jaguar brand for good and move to something else then as their newer cars just aren't up to scratch for me. They give the SUV's more love than they do their sedans now - very sad.
Hilton I had the same issue, couldn’t stick with older type XF as too high mileage. The quality and feel of the newer XF forced me to move elsewhere unfortunately.
Was it the change in the model, or other people’s reliability reports that changed your mind?

I just got it so id like to keep it until atleast 100,000km but if these newer ones are troublesome it might be a good idea to get rid of it now
Hey Rav, I don't think you should get rid of it. If you are enjoying the car and its reliable, keep it. I've seen some with over 100,000km's already and they seem to be doing just fine. My problem is actually more dealer related and not so much car related. I should have pointed out that my car stood for a full year without being driven and that could be why the a/c seals got hard and leaked. Could also be the reason the stabilizer bar bushes become stretched. These cars like to be driven. I've spoken to many owners of older XF's with high mileage and they've barely had any issues due to the fact they get driven a lot. Mine stands in the garage for two or three days at a time because I work from home, so it also needs to be driven more often. Keep you car, I'm sure it will prove to be reliable in the long term.
Totally unacceptable with such a low mileage. I Believe the old xf x250 was better quality. I just bought a 2010 xfr it's incredible.

The new one is definitely a step down in quality. I can't lie about that. The quality of the materials behind the materials is also not up to par with other manufacturers - not even Mazda. Tata have cheapened the new Jags and they'd better wake up soon and fix the quality perception issue otherwise Jaguar will die thanks to them. It's a great brand and they are beautiful cars. The designers have done a good job as well as the engineers, but the boardroom decisions have affected the quality - thus, the new XF is dying slowly. My own personal preference would be the older 11-15 XF. By then, Jaguar had fixed any recurring warranty issues and perfected the car like a fine wine. Only thing to watch for are the black buttons in the interior - they have a gel coating to make them feel soft and rubbery and if the car stands in the sun for much of its life, the gel coat starts getting sticky and peeling off. It's a terrible sight and not nice to touch any of the switchgear then.

Sorry Ricardo - only seen your comment now. If you're concerned about the timing chain, have it done. These motors are unfortunately not very reliable. Jaguar has changed a few things on them. One would have thought they'd learned from the 5L V8 timing chain plastic guides issue from years ago, but nope. They quietly upgraded them to metal guides are thousands of failures - out of warranty. The diesel isn't any better unfortunately. If you really want a good engine, you should have tried to get a 3L V6 s/c or a V6 diesel - older engines, but tried and tested ;)
Not good enough. Full Stop. I run a 2012 XF 2.2 Sport LE and I love it. So far in 2 years it has been faultless (touch wood)....and very economical.

Thanks man. Jaguar fixed all the issues I had after I spoke with the service manager and their quality manager. They kept the car for a few days and sorted everything out to ensure I was happy. The service advisor was the route cause because he wasn't checking that the work was done right. I deal with a different service advisor now and he knows all too well that when I book my car in, it better be perfect :D
Im sorry to hear about your troubles. But these are the reasons i got rid of mine after a few months. It was a XF-S Portfolio 2015. The shape before yours. The paint and build quality were subpar. But what do you expect when most parts are Ford and the engine is Puegeot.
Extremely over rated brand.
Last month I sold my 14 V6 R Sport. I bought it two years old and had it four years. Best car ive ever had. I so wanted to buy another but was put off buying the new model due to all the reports of bad build quality and another new model coming out this year that will hurt the values of the 16 onwards models. There seems to be a real lack of V6 models around also. Mostly 2 litre. I have bought a sporty Audi. I willlook at jag again maybeb 2021. I will be following this story
Unfortunately they have killed the V6 in the XE already and will be doing so with the facelift XF. I think Jaguar made a big mistake doing away with the XFR, and now they further dig a hole by dropping the V6. I guess the engines are sold old now they can't make them environmentally friendly to meet the ever stricter emissions targets set by the EPA and Europe's regulators. Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz don't care, they still have a halo car in each of the line ups.
Agreed Audi etc still have their eye on the ball. I have gone for the S4. Bit smaller than the XF but a great vehicle.

2010 Jaguar XF premium 5.0 I had accumulated 205,000 miles on that car. Thee only problem I had with my Jaguar is that my mass airflow sensors Were bad And my check tire pressure sensors were bad. N
That's it... other than that my car was very reliable, but I decided To sell it to a family member and I went and got thee 2012 XF portfolio. And as far as interior wise it has everything that tha 2010 have. Just different body style. And I'm in love with this car. ...

Did no one ever tell you Hilton NEVER, NEVER, buy the first year of a car model makeover? I heartily agree with you that it would have been better for you to have bought a used 2015 XF with low miles.
As for myself, I am currently looking for a 2015 XFR with low miles here in San Francisco, California. Fortunately, I have a much wider selection here in the states than you have where you live.
I find the XFR from the years 2010 to 2015 to have the most beautiful lines versus other years. And of course the XFR has that powerful V8 putting out a scintillating 510 HP!
I do have some questions though for you Hilton. At what mileage do you feel XF’s start breaking down in general? 60K miles or higher? I have read dozens of CARFAX’s on XF’s and it seems like around that point major engine components start breaking down.
But one issue does fascinate me, why do a lot of late model XF’s within 20K miles or so need their engine/powertrain computer/modules replaced? Also, I’ve noticed they have issues with their water pumps, rotors, moonroof leaking, and of course the little electrical glitches only seen in Jaguars.
Any thoughts of yours would be appreciated!
Oh, and one last eternal question....and don’t hold this against me, but why do the English drive on the wrong side of the road!?! I gather that’s why your steering wheels are on the wrong side of the car. ;-((

@@matthew4659 There are no 2015 XFR's currently for sale in our market, yet alone a silver one. I found a silver 2012 one for sale, good price too, but high mileage - no thanks. The problem with buying a used performance car is that the previous owner probably rung its neck while he owned it, sucked all the goodness out and is now passing the empty shell on to some poor guy who will end up selling his house to for the repair bills. There is an XFRS, but they want way too much money for it and it also doesn't have that crazy big spoiler on the tail which I think makes that car really special. It's black, low miles, but just to pricey for it's age.
Driving my 2017 XF S the sixth year now. I had the same issues with suspension noises in the beginning and the dealer also struggled to find the root cause. After two years, there seemed to be an official update from Jaguar to fix the issue, no problems with the suspension since. I had the same BT connection issue for six months. I also had problems with the steering. But for three years now (knock on wood 😉) There is not the slightest problem. Petfectly reliable car since.
They are beautiful cars, but the interior and quality really killed the XF. A car like this needs to be better than the competition and unfortunately Jaguar stepped the quality of materials down with the X260 while Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW stepped up their game with super luxurious interiors. Jaguar tried to fix all that with the facelift but it was too late. You only get one shot at it when you launch a new car and they effed it up. If it wasn't for that, the XF still would have been around. It was a good seller in South Africa until the X260 came out and suddenly sales dropped. Tears ago when I did a review on a loaner from Jag, my conclusion was that I couldn't wait to get my X250 back because it felt like a Jag. The XF lost its soul and people sensed that. Very sad. The XF brought Jaguar into the modern Era.
@@carfanfan I can not agree, I think the 260 was a progress in term of design and quality of materials. But the Germans have always been better in terms of quality and onboard technology/entertainment. I bought the Jag for the looks and the engine, which is a real peach and I can accept some quirks. I love the facts that it is a car that you do not see often on German roads, especially not the "S".

Jag for some strange reason used two different systems. The Harman and Bose. Not sure one you have but it's possible you have the newer version. You can tell by the 3D look to the GUI, that's the newer version.
I have had 2 brand new XFs and have found them to be excellent on the whole. The first one the Turbo blew after 3.5 years but Jag did a good will out of warranty replacement. The second one has been solid as a rock but the lesson is always have a dealer warranty with a jag cos things will go wrong. In the UK i can go to a number of dealers so if im not happy with one i will go to another. I am surprised to hear you say the old jag xf is better. I think the new one is far better. i would say an old XKR would be a fantastic choice though
Interesting comment there. Just this morning my mirrors wouldn't unfold when I opened the door. Started the car and they stayed closed. After five minutes I managed to get them to unfold. First time that's ever happened to me. My old XF was way more reliable and was double the age and four times the mileage. I accept that even new cars have issues and I'm not too bothered by the fact that things have gone wrong with it, but more the fact that the dealer doesn't seem to take fixing the issues seriously. I've been in contact with Jaguar head office and if they can't fix the troubles I've decided to sue the dealer to take the car back, less the miles I've put on it which is just 3,000kms since I bought it.
@@carfanfan I think actually showing them the dash cam footage might just spur them into action. On the subject of old xf vs new, I accept some of the interior materials are better on the old model, but overall i think the new one is a real step up especially in terms of driving. The new one just feels more solid and planted. It also refines and reigns in the styling a bit whilst managing to look sportier. I feel it would be a step back for you to go for an older model and at that point it might be time to give up on the XF. Honestly though, have a think about the XKR. They are very affordable, reliable and would certainly put a huge smile on your face.
@@GoogleAccount-vn8mu You won't believe this, but I looked at an XKR. It's just not practical enough for my needs though. We getany guests from afar and to pick them up at the airport in a coupe won't go down well 😊. I need a 4 door sedan. I'm currently looking at a really nice XFR, old shape, with low mileage. But first I want to see if they can fix my X260. The X260 is lighter than the old car, hence the improved driving experience. It's all aluminum. The old car is heavier and one feels it. The suspension soaks the bumps up better, but with suspension knocks, I don't know.
@@carfanfan How about an XKR for you and an affordable second car for those occasions you might need extra space? ;) Im really trying to find a way to get you in that XKR cos I know you will love it and the truth is it is a very good daily driver. I think the XKR manages to be a head and heart choice.
Back on the subject of your XF; with modern cars the truth is sometimes they don't know what is wrong with them and end up throwing parts at the problem until they fix it. You bought an approved used Jag by the sound of it and that might mean that the dealer has some liability for the cost of repairs as opposed to Jaguar HQ. Where i'm going with this is that the dealer you bought it from might be trying to wriggle out of it cos it has a cost implication for them. But dont be deterred, the reality is that with an official Jag warranty you still have all the same protections with a used Jag but you may need to fight that little bit harder. I think the dash cam footage going viral threat might just get them moving :)

It's difficult to say. So many things trigger the alarm. If the ebrake isn't holding the car still and it moves ever so slightly it will trigger an event. The motion sensors could pick up a bug or a faulty sensor could trigger with a sudden change in temperature. A faulty door latch could trigger an event too or truck or hood latch. I'd recommend sitting the car and locking it with the key fob and then listening for anything after its been set. The motion sensors turn on about a minute after locking the car. So if you move inside the car they will trigger an event. I recall there was a way to check on the instrument cluster to see what caused an alarm event but I can't remember now. Google it to see if you can have the car tell you the reason. That will isolate the problem area.
As I said on one of your previous videos I'm considering a switch to x250 from my x260 xf 3.0s. My car has been back to the dealer so many times, thank god for warranty but I'm just tired of the issues now. Fancy 5.0 XFR my concern is I'm not sure if I could live with the low end tech and loosing my virtual dash, pro nav, apple CarPlay, andruid auto set up in my x260.
Hey Julian, keep a look out for my next video. It features an Android replacement system (including screen) for the X250 XF. It's still very new on the market, but manufactured by a good manufacturer who makes these for many other makes and brands. If I buy an X250, I will definitely be switching to this to bring the car into the current decade. My next video will tell you all about it and where you can buy it and also what to watch out for.

It’s a shame to have “lost confidence in the engine” and apparently, the car, when you’ve had a bad dealer experience, especially when the engine hasn’t given you any bother at all.
So true John. I really do love this car and enjoy it each time I drive it. I would still keep it even if they couldn't fix the bluetooth, but at least just the suspension and a/c trouble. The a/c in particular also concerns me as I've now read on the XE forums that condensers are prone to stone damage as they are made of weak materials. If they pin the a/c issue on me, they'll have a fight on their hands as it wasn't working from day one. I've already replaced the rear tires because whoever drive the car as a demo at the dealer before I bought it had a flat and plugged it. The plug leaked after I bought the car and had to replace both rear tires. So if they say the a/c is my fault due to wear and tear, that wear and tear happened while it was in their possession, then the dealer should pay - and after my experience with them, I'm pretty sure they'll abscond from all responsibility.
We have the same problem here in the uk,had a turbo blow and had to go back to dealer 6 to 7 times for what i would call bad fitting issues and poor parts.i think jaguar have drop the ball some were...Now waiting on engine change.:(
OMG Nigel, that sounds awful. I hope you come right soon. Problem with an engine swap it reduces the residual value. This morning my mirrors wouldn't unfold when I unlocked the car. Now they're fine again. Very odd 😏

Hi Hilton. That is so disappointing about your XF and frustrating to have an 'indifferent' dealer. That is not a good advert for the Jaguar brand and I assume you can't go to another dealer? A 30% loss in 7 months seems bad, but I just calculated that my Tucson has lost 29% from 5 months old (when I bought it) and 17 months (age now). I now realise to minimise my loss I should have bought a 2+ year old Tucson but it will even out over the years. You have a beautiful car, so hopefully the garage will make it perfect again. If not, complain to Jaguar HQ.
Hey Andy, I have communicated to Jaguar HQ and hopefully they will assist in sorting the niggles out. The main reason I bought a 2016 model is to have avoided the immense depreciation these cars suffer. As the owner of an SUV, you know more and more people are gravitating to SUV's so sedans are becoming extinct and people don't want them, thus the residual values on them just don't hold up. I knew this when I bought it and only expected a 15% drop in it's value between last year and now. Most new cars depreciate 40% in their first year and then around 15% per annum after that so over 5 years, it's reached rock bottom value-wise. However, I'm not quite there yet it seems :-D. The next month or so will determine what I do with this car and whether or not I get myself an older shape one with low mileage. Sometimes I think I should have stuck with the CX-5 ;)
@@carfanfan Perhaps the issues are akin to initial "teething problems" of a low mileage/nearly new car and it will be reliable thereafter. Hopefully Jaguar will rise to the occasion and confidence will return. With the rise of SUVs here it is now difficult to get a good looking saloon car. There are some lovely small/medium sized saloons in America which sadly we do not get because I know I would be tempted lol :-))

I'd recommend driving both the 2nd Feb XF and 3rd gen and compare. The suspen6 just does a better job on the 2nd gen one (2011-2015)
Hi Hilton. I totally agree with you the old Jaguar XF 2014 is million times better than the new one. Mine is now 6 years old with 19000 miles and ya fully loaded. It even has a rare sunroof and I keep it in pristine condition. Unfortunately I have to sell due to the introduction of a low emissions zone around London otherwise I would have kept this car for ever. I won’t be buying a new xf but chances are I’ll buy a xj.

I'd be careful buying an older Jaguar XF in the expectation it has fewer issues than your current one. Logically speaking, that's a recipe for disappointment. Outside of major drivetrain issue, there's a greater probability of issues with door seals or strange rackets etc.
Like you, I love jaguar and I'm on my 4th. Having had 3 of them with the 3.0L supercharger, I can say I haven't had any drivetrain issues. However, it's very well known that they're plagued with issues.

Yep, I mentioned in my video that my heart is currently over-ruling my head as my head tells me to stick with the newer car with lower mileage, but having such a "new" car with so many issues and having had an older XF with fewer issues than this tells me the new XF was poorly designed and poorly built. Mercedes Benz went through a "poor quality" phase in the 2000's and learnt a hard lesson when sales started to dive. Jaguar know the XE and XF were bad from the start and have improved the XE with a comprehensive facelift. They're currently doing the same to the XF and the new XF facelift will debut soon - let's hope they address the quality of materials and parts used in the process.

I am so sorry to heat about all this trouble you are having.As you recall I have the exact same car and model.I can only say this:All cars and it does not matter what make have problems,I am a bit older than you are and had more cars than you I have discovered that each car has its personality and same as people not all persons are the same ....
Seems like your present one has a bit of a twist to it and it would be wise to let it go.

My XFR was an amazing car . I bought it for 20k cost me about 10k over 2 years repairs alone . I loved the car but after the large turbo went for a second time and it’s not the turbo that fails it’s the ancillary’s which are not sold separately we parted ways.

My new "old" 2013 XF only has 40K miles. I took it to the dealership to diagnose a squicky/crackling noise in the suspension/tires. The car came back 2 days later and they said that there was nothing! wrong with it. I doubt they even looked! I knew it was not true, so took I took to my local guy who said not only my axle/boot?? was leaking oil and is probably cracked and needs to be replaced, I also need to replace my coolant tank...which I agree is leaking (based on the smell in the engine, lol smells like curry). I was so appalled on how irresponsible is the dealership ! They ignored the issue and put me back on the road...not sure why they would do that, because the services are not covered by their warranty since the car is now 7 years old. Even more of the reason to properly diagnose the issue. The car cracks and knocks at low speeds, and when the tires are turning slow. Do you think it's the boot? Why would the car with so few miles get this issue? It may cost $1800.00 for axle/boot and new rotor(s) which is absurd at 40K total??
Hi Diana. I totally agree. Irresponsible dealer indeed. You should give them a piece of your mind because if the axle failed while doing high speed you could have an accident. The axle you refer to is probably the CV joint connected to the rear axle (not sure if yours is all-wheel drive or not). If it's all-wheel drive, you will have CV's in the front too and they tend to make a terrible knacking/knocking noise especially when you turn full lock on the steering. That is also serious and needs attention quickly. The only reason a CV fails is when the rubber boot covering it breaks or tears with age and the grease leaks out. Then the bearings in the CV start to seize and that causes the knocking sound you hear when you turn the steering. If it's from the rear, same story but not when you're turning the steering wheel, more when the rear wheels are going over undulating surfaces. You can get aftermarket CV's on eBay for your Jag however, don't get anything made in China - it won't last. German made products are far superior. As far as this is concerned, I'd get an aftermarket European made part to replace it with as the manufacturer is probably the same one Jaguar use just without the hefty mark-up.

Thanks Angie. The latest XF is much better. You should look at a 2021 model if you can with the new dash. Jag really stepped it up with this facelift by improving the quality of materials. The prior facelift one is terrible. I could bear to drive this car anymore and went back to an older XF. But now the facelift has improved I might give it another look myself 😉

@@angie9241 The XE was facelifted a while ago and is currently a good buy as well. The trunk space is less, but it's still quite a large car and very comfortable. You should test drive both and see which one you prefer ;)

You made the same mistake I did. I had an 03 S Type V8, it was a great car never any problems. So at 15 year's old and 157k miles I bought an XF. The worst POS I've ever owned. 1st was the water pump, then trunk latch, two fuel pumps, electrical problems, a $2,000+ computer. I'd spent thousands of dollars for repairs on the horrible car. Then at 84k miles and never overheating or getting hot it blew the head gasket. That came with a repair bill of $10,000 because not only was the head damaged so was the aluminum block. It would have required a new engine. Well F that! I got rid of it and bought a Lincoln MKS Eco-boost AWD sedan. A much nicer car much nicer ride and a lot of features that aren't on a Jaguar XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition. Tata has ruined Jaguar "Piano Black" is Tata's fancy word for Cheap Black Plastic, never buy a Tata in Jag drag!
The reason the shop is dragging thing's out is so your warranty period will expire! I took my car to Rusnick Jaguar Of Pasadena for a computer repair nobody else could do. The submitted over $12,000 for required repairs to my warranty company. I had the car checked at two different auto shops. They found nothing wrong with the car on the list. Including a $250 oil change and $95 for windshield wipers. I found out later the service reps and the mechanics receive a commission for everything they can add to the bill. Stay away from a Jaguar! It's a Tata!
I hear you Brian. I just love Jags design. They are beautiful to behold and not everybody drives one so they tend to turn heads where you go. I don't blame the car, I blame the dealer for their blaze' attitude towards my concerns. Yeah, you are right, they are dragging all this out so they can sell me an extended warranty or charge me cash for the repair. If they do the job under warranty, they have to charge Jaguar warranty rates which are 50% lower than retail rates because labor and parts are billed at cost - no profit for the dealer so they they don't want to do warranty jobs. It's bad for their numbers and targets. They're a bunch of plonkers in my eyes right now. They better get it right next time they have the car because that will be their last opportunity. I'll be going legal to force them to take the car back if they can't fix it. It's not such a complex thing to repair.
Glad i own the previous gen Jag XF as apposed to the new ones. Atleast those were built with a built more passion. The current XF are built with serious corners cut.
Hey, I was looking at 2016 Jaguar XF 35T prestige. What would you recommend me looking out for and what should i be aware of on it. The car is fairly low Km only 89k on it. Thanks for you opinion.
Mine only had 16k on the clock and I still had issues. A 35t, is that the V6? I've lost track of their names and engines. But definitely check the cooling system for leaks. Also when test driving check for knocks from the suspension. If you hear any knocks it's most likely the bushes on the stabilizer bar. Bluetooth doesn't stay connected for long and drops calls if it works at all. When test driving take it on the freeway and do at least 70mph to check for vibration. If there's vibration those low profile wheels are buckled.
Check the ac is blowing ice cold. The high pressure return valve can soring a leak over time and the ac won't blow cold anymore. Check the electrical wires under the hood as they aren't covered with protective conduit from engine heat and the wires become brittle and break open. At that mileage it should have had a transmission oil change. Check that thos was done. It's an 8 speed ZF transmission and they are pretty robust, but if not serviced, the filter clogs up and shifts become clunky or it will go into neutral when stopping at traffic lights. That's about it 😉

@MohammedAlfaauri-xu8ug to be honest, any luxury competitor is going to have its issues. Audi A6, Merc E Class, Lexus IS, BMW 5 series, they all have issues.
You would probably be better off buying an older XF X250 shape with low mileage. A 2014 or 2015 model. They were solidly built had little to no issues and at the end of their life cycle Jaguar had by then sorted out the very few issues those cars had when they came out in 2007. That's why I bought an old Audi A6 now. It's a 2008 model and by then, Audi had sorted all the warranty issues out with their suppliers and improved reliability. But if I had to go back to Jag, it would be a 2015 model with low miles.

Its a pity ! Ditto on all the Supercharger problems. Where is the supercharger located, underneath the 4.2 lit V8 engine. If you have Supercharger Air ducting issue or seal issues it becomes a massive issue. The coolant expansion tank and the supporting hardware can not handle the engine heat. The coolant level sensor will be the first to malfunction.
Luckily on my old XF the coolant reservoir replacement took care of the coolant level sensor as it's built into the tank. I did have a low coolant fake warning once just before I realized the bottle was cracked and leaking even though the level was between max and min, and that indicated to me that something was indeed wrong there. I'm glad I picked that issue up before the bottle exploded as it operates under immense pressure. The V6 can overheat very easily and coolant issues need to be addressed immediately. But that old XF still proved to be a reliable luxurious form of transport and I miss it still today.
Maybe I will make you feel better. My car is 2016 (baby phase) and I got it with 10kkm on clock. My problems: leaking cooling system - had to reschedule my business trip, but JLR gave me spare car for 10 days. Not working CD - replaced. After that constantly resetting and freezing infotainment system - 4 times at dealer. Replaced some modules etc. In the end loaded totally new version of system, which was not available on the market yet - solved. Not fully closing window in drivers doors - 2 times at dealer - they could not find the problem, but it fixed itself... Failure of SIM card module - 3 times at dealer. First they claimed that Iused wrong SIM (it was working fine though before I complained). Eventually they replaced whole module - fixed. When the car is parked for 3 or 4 weeks and I use then airco it blows horrible smell into cabin, like burned plastics/oil/(mould?). It goes away after about 2 hours driving... The dealer though always was friendly and trying to do their best (Netherlands). They Never washed my car though, until I started servicing the car after warranty expired :P I still love driving my car :) Cheers! and good luck fighting them!
BTW I put on my car 50,000 km in 2 years and since the dealer fixed all issues (except the window and smelly airco which they just cleaned, or so they say but it still smells) all is in order. hopefully it stays like that.
Hey Artur, sounds like you've been through the mill with yours ;). I drove the car again this morning and it feels to me like the strut mounts are worn. I think they've misdiagnosed the suspension issue, but I have to give them a fair chance now to fit the other parts to see if it does indeed solve the problem.
Strange you mention that funny a/c smell too. I had it when I bought my car and kept asking the salesman what's that funny smell. That's why I did a video on how to get that leather smell back into your car, because it stank inside. Today, that smell is gone luckily, but it had the same smell you describe. Burnt plastic or oil smell. Not pleasant in a car like this. My old XF was 10 years old and still smelt like leather inside. I love that smell, but this car just doesn't have the same smell.
@@carfanfan i know what you mean, my old Volvo S60 had same smell... This a/c thing is definitely something odd. Dealer tells me it is condensation drying out. I never had that in any other car before though. Very weird. How did the ride feel? Still thinking of selling it?

Dear Hilton! Sorry to hear this level of customer care, it's so... So Eastern Europe-ish. Unacceptable. As a proud owner of a 2008 XF SV8 I have to say, the MK1, or the facelilft is much more of a car. Yes, it lacks some fancy feature the new version's equipped with, but mechanically the old one's superior. Especially this SV8 beast. I'm sure you wont't be disappointed changing bacwards. Thanks Peter. When I test drove that 3L V6 s/c the other day, I felt like I was at home in it. Pity we couldn't reach agreement on the price. I won't buy one without a two year warranty at least to cover me in the initial ownership experience, so I need to keep this cost in mind when buying as well. But hopefully, the right one will come along or they'll remedy my XF's issues and I might decide to keep it. Thanks for watching ;)

I'm not surprised at all by this, last year I went in to look at buying a Jaguar XE, I arrived 5 mins early for my appointment, the salesman left me waiting for 15 minutes, then just took me out to a XE, and said "do you like it, do you want to buy it" didn't want to let me test drive it, then when I eventually did test drive one, and got back they tried to get me to buy a brand new Landmark edition similar to what i drove, I spent 3 hours going through figures with two of them trying to push me, In the end i gave up and told them i'd come back. I had them call me multiples times over the month to get me to buy a new XE, in the end I just ignored the calls and went out and bought a newer version of my at the time current car which had been all the features I wanted from the Jaguar, and was significantly cheaper. I've always wanted to own a Jag, especially the XE when it first came out, however my experience, and your video has put me right off.
Very sad to hear this. I honestly don't want to put people off buying a Jag, just wanted to give an update of the real issues I've had with mine. I bought this car as a demo vehicle from this dealer and I don't think whoever drove it before me cared for it much. They must have driven like hell over speed bumps and the like. Other than these three things, the car is great and the engine is fantastic. It's just that I now doubt if it will continue to be after my experience with the dealer. I will be moving to another dealer further away once this one has corrected the warranty claims on it.
@@carfanfan I agree, It's not the car that's the problem it's the dealerships attitude to it's customers that's the problem, which is not what you'd expect from a luxury car brand.
If you want better service from your dealer then you should name them in one of your videos. Dealers hate bad reviews. Especially when you've got people around the world watching your videos. I'm in the US and they would hate it for me to know that they are not treating customers well. Next thing. It's good to see that you're an honest person. A dishonest person would sell the car to another person and let them deal with the problems. The good thing about buying a Jag is that you can get them cheap (used) because of the depreciation. The bad thing about the Jag is that same depreciation holds true when you go to sell it. One thing you might try is to take the car in and tell them you're going to wait for it. According to Jaguar, you'll go straight to next in line. Your car will not go to the end of the line. That way you can question them as soon as they're done. I found this out when I dropped my XF off the night prior, just to get the oil changed. 36 hours later and they hadn't even touched it. I thought that they'd wrecked it joy riding. When I went in to complain to the Service Manager she told me about Jaguars policy. I don't know why they even make appts.

The F Pace has its issues but generally a very good car. Based on Velar's platform, it makes for a well built car and comfortable too. I've driven a few. The supercharged 3L felt underpowered to me. The 2L turbo had way more torque which made it feel more powerful. But I do love a V6 growl. Just a pity those engines have coolant issues. From coolant bottles to water hoses to tiny hoses buried deep inside the supercharger which means a supercharger out job just to replace two cheap hoses which should have been metal.
gee I'd be very angry too ! not what you'd expect from a premium dealer. oddly enough there are lots of 2.0.litre petrol xfs coming on the market at very cheap prices. maybe people have come to the same conclusion as you ? I'm definitely keeping my 09 XF now after your experience with mine . Have you tried the facelift 3.0d ? the suspension is.like your newnone, I think.youd like.that
I realise this is an old thread .The knock you describe is imo usually a faulty shock absorber. Had very similar on my Volvo V70. Jaguar are progressively shooting themselves in the foot with reliability issues and worse than that thrir arrogant attitude towards customers. The Mk 2 XF (2016 on) is rubbish compared to the Mk1 and Mk1 Facelift models. Have you had any issues with the Ingenium engine yet ? Good luck and hope you get sorted.
It turned out that the stabilizer bar bushings were worn. On a car with just 10k miles on it - shocking. But they were replaced and knock resolved.

This one was a 2016 model. I don't have it anymore. I have an XFR now.
Admired the XF for years. Because of its very poor reliability reviews, I will stay with the Merc
Chris, i had a Volvo S80 for some years, when i bought the Jag XF i thought it would not be as good, pleasantly surprised, very comfortable no issues, regular oil changes looks brilliant and drives like a dream, Mercs are good, of course they are.

Hey Chris, I think the important thing to take away from my video is that it was actually the dealer stuffing me around. They were incompetent. Not the car. I am full of sh*t when it comes to my cars and too much of a perfectionist, so everything must be perfect and they were not listening to me when I told them the 3 things that I found wrong with it - it did turn out to be bushings on the stabilizer bar that were worn because the car stood for 2 years without being driven in their storage before I bought it. Also, the a/c pipe was leaking at the filler nozzle and needed replacing - again, because the car stood too long and the a/c wasn't used during that time - the heat here is unforgiving so that seals perished. The bluetooth simply needed a software update and instead of them just doing the update, they got several people to connect their phones to the car, made calls and didn't experience it drop calls so they left it until I threw a tantrum in their showroom upon which they then got the car in for 3 days and sorted all the issues out at once. Generally, Jaguars are way more reliable these days than people give them credit and the only time you're likely to see a dealer is when it goes in for its annual service.
Looked at one of these remembered the utterly insane anger the last JLR product brought me to and ended up buying another Honda, they just cannot build a reliable vehicle to save their lives.
I have a 2009 xf premium luxury with the naturally aspirated 5.0
It is coming on 179k miles and going great! However! I did not get the level of service that I am used to at the dealer that I am used to. I don't think I'll be buying jaguar again. I hear that jaguar is now owned by a Chinese company. There were protests in the streets of China of jaguar owners complaining about the poor quality! No more jaguar for me unless it's an older one

LoL, don't be. Mine might have had a couple of issues, but it's really the dealer that let me down, not my car. They have since realized they're dealing with a hot tamali here and take out the kit gloves every time they deal with me to make sure they fix anything properly that I might raise to them ;) The car has since been very reliable and such a joy to drive. I look for reasons to just go out and drive. Not to mention the looks it gets ;D

Yes, I had the same issue with the Bluetooth on my xe 2017. They blame it on Jaguar. They also said it was Android and not Apple devices that were having the issue. I think the last update worked for me.
They told me the same, but also said my car has the latest software already installed 😔

I've shortlisted a few 2L petrols but also mostly interested in the 3.0L superchaged. I've driven a couple already and am impressed with the power and weight of the car. It's just perfectly balanced.

Looking for a bit of help . I have an XF 2016 3.0V6 Diesel . The suspension I have felt hard since day 1 . So a month ago I reduced the tyre pressure from 36psi to 29psi . A lot more comfortable for a short time . Now the car is back to being brick hard and judders over bumps and can feel the road surface through the car . Adaptive suspension doesn’t seem to do anything . I wondered is it possible the car is stuck in firm mode ?

Hey Kev. I had a similar issue with my XFR. It stood for 2 years prior to me buying it and the adaptive dampers were rock hard. I asked Jaguar to replace all 4 shocks but they came back saying there was nothing wrong with them. They disconnected the battery for a few hours and it somehow reset them. Now they act like they should. My car is nice and soft at town speeds and the moment I get over 60mph they stiffen up and I can feel it's firmer on highways. If you have adaptive suspension, give it a try. You got nothing to lose 😉.

Hi Hilton , do you know there is not one post on the internet showing you how to get into the boot of the X260 if you disconnect the battery and shut the boot .
Jump leads to the jumper points under the bonnet and quickly press the boot release button seems the only way or remove the back seats .

I need to do some research on the X250 as many people seem to be lost on how to access the trunk without the key. It's never happened to me, but if you close the trunk with the key in it, the trunk will automatically pop open as it senses the key is there. So it's an odd one.
What year was your other Jag? I mean something is wrong with the dealership.THIER SERVICE IS TERRIBLE AND IT SEEMS lIKE THEY JUST DONT GIVE A F not even about the warranty..I have a 2014 X F Portforlio only one issue I had with it.I down shifted way to low on the paddle shifter and it somehow loosed a wire to the fuel pump that caused a short.Its a great ride and fun I still have it.Not as a daily driver.I have a Very reliable beater with around 300000 K miles that runs like new.(Nissan Xerra).But I only take the Jag out to treat myself every once in Awhile..Sorry about that one...Get in touch with Jaguar and put the Dealership on blast.
My old XF was a 2009 model and I sold it in 2019 much to my own disgust. I regretted selling it the moment it drove out my driveway knowing I'd never see it again. The 1st gen XF's are solid cars.
@@carfanfan Yes.Another issue I have with my 2012.I did get a good deal without a warrenty.Remember Ford owned it.And I whould not be surprised if most of all the tooling for build is still used and Tata is smart to know not to change anything to thiers... All suspensions are basic and easy to work on with a little study and elbow grease.And the more you learn about auto repair the more fun it is.The first time I changed the oil on my Jag after studying how.(And saving two hundred plus dollars)I was proud and thought how cool it was.Ford had some issues with the rubber used it's fair but it was a problem with how long it lasts.With the suspension.(Strut mounts).The rubber.Thats only on one side ,Also on my drivers side issue is the lower control arm is not good (Drivers side) U.S. When I hit 55 to 60 MIles per hour i get a little shudder.The squeak from the strut mount was solved with some armour all.(Armour all has minute amount of petroleum in it that acts as a lubricant.(slick)but not enough as a wd forty that will disintegrate rubber after awhile.its a good idea to spray some on your motor mounts and any rubber you see under the car suspensension.With mine i think the previous owner hit a pot hole.But i do love learning about the cars mechanics.Fun to me.Look for some in U.S.Hilton.(In the southern states)Northern U S cars may have rust issues even if not seen.Cheers

@TheWiz2024 I haven't personally, but the X260 XF will easily go up to that mileage with minimal problems. As long as you maintain it properly. They like regular oil changes. Most parts were Ford so they are solid cars.

i see the main issue is its sitting 2 inches too high on the back and 1.8 inch to high on the front.
I don't think this is Jaguar manufacturing fault i think this is a Dealer Fault! In Britain we have "the sales of goods act" which with the problems you've been having would mean you could return the car and receive a full refund.
We have the Consumer Protection Act here but that gives one a 6 month return period to return anything. Unfortunately, they dragged this out so long that my statute has run out.
